I have tried doing partition wipe cache and disabled most apps under auto start manager, unable to figure out what is causing this issue
I have no other issues on Asus Zenfone 2 and it is probably the best Android phone I have ever used, just this battery drain issues is irritating.
Lot of Zenfone 2 users have logged this issue on Zentalk forum but Asus support seems to be clueless about it, recent firmware update also failed to address this problem.
My phone is not rooted

Me too
I think it depends on wi fi...
When I'm at work ZenFone connect to various AP and the battery drain is heavy....
But when I'm at home the battery seems to be normal, I can finish the day with 20% of battery from 17 to 21.
I see the battery is longer on 3g/4g than when i'm at work on wi fi
I think Zen Motion in settings specially touch gesture is one of the causes for battery drain issue...
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA Free mobile app
Probably...but when I'm on 2.17 I don't see this battery drain....and I always have gesture, double tap to wake/sleep and zenmotion all gesture.
I see the battery drain increased when Asus have changed power profile
'Wifi Scanning always available' may cause battery drain. Recommend to turn off in not needed. To do this go to Apps/Settings/WiFi Settings/Advance Settings(menu in upper right corner)/Scanning always available/ turn Off. If battery still draining, recommend updating firmware to latest version and then performing a factory data reset. Please ensure to back up all important data as this will erase all data.
Sincerely,
Frank

Hi Frank,
Regarding the Wi-Fi always on thing... Whenever I turn it off of always turns back on automatically.... Any advice.. I already am on 2.19 BTW..
Apologize for the delayed response. Strange, it shouldn't turn back on automatically. After latest firmware is applied, recommend doing a hardware reset including wipe cache partition. For hardware reset/wipe cache partition instructions please see the following: http://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1011956/

Frank have you heard any rumors on if asus is working on the 5.1.1 update. The issue of Android us chewing up battery is a widely known issue for lollipop 5.0 and it impacts many different devices. Every thread I have read regarding this specific issue states that lollipop 5.1.1 resolves this issue.

Pathetic battery back up on ZenFone 2, hardly getting 3 hours screen time these days
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using Tapatalk
My battery stats still reporting WiFi use when I have turned WiFi off and disabled always scanning. I don't get it!?
Edit: just figured this mystery out. It's because I had location set to high accuracy. If you set it to high accuracy or battery saving it scans WiFi even when WiFi is off. Put location to GPS only for the last ten minutes and voilà - no WiFi use in the battery stats
Spoke to soon, WiFi came back again on battery stats!???

Do you see any major results with that application?
I read a lot about awful battery and screen on time before buying the zenfone 2. Surprisingly though with a bit of tweaking this has been one of the best phones I've owned in terms of battery life. I could have easily gotten 10 hours of screen on time i believe if I stayed in an area with stronger reception and turned off some background services like GPS. Here's some screenshots for anyone interested

You have 551 or 550? On what software version are you? And what do you mean with "bit of tweaking" I'm using heavly Amplify and Greenify, and I can get 4-5 SOT more or less..

I'm using the 551 with the latest .22 update. I'm not sure *exactly* what I did to fix the idle Android OS battery drain but I have underclocked to 2.0ghz, zen motion stuff is turned off, GPS is set to battery saving mode, all the stuff under Google settings >security is turned off, Asus cover off, detect battery draining apps in battery settings is off (its not very efficient as it just checks what is running in background, regardless of battery usage) and some more stuff that I can list later on when I have access to my computer

hmm, Well for screen on time Underclocking should help the most. If you don't do any heavy gaming you can set it down to 1.8 without noticing a performance hit ( you could probably take it down to 1.5ghz but I haven't tested that thoroughly so there could be an impact). I use noop as the I/O scheduler but that probably doesn't make a difference. I don't use greenify but I do use servicely. I also stay far away from facebook and the messenger app as that has always caused me crazy battery drain but I know those are apps alot of people would rather not delete so its up to you. I use balance mode in power saver and also use Asus' built in auto start manager to disable most things at boot I don't need. Another thing that helps with wakelocks is to make sure you open the google settings app after you boot ( you dont have to do anything, just open and close. I don't get it either) it works for many people including myself.
Other then that I can't think of much else I do. If anything else comes to me ill be sure to let you guys know

EDIT
I was able to solve my battery issue by formatting my SD card. Something on there was causing the battery to drain 2-3 times more quickly than normal. After formatting, I went from 6-8 hour battery life to around 20 hours with significant usage (Google, Exchange, IMAP, Facebook all on push, 3G+Bluetooth+GPS on, 4G and wifi as needed for extra speed).
Important to note, I am not entirely convinced that the Android OS and battery drain are related since I still have Android OS near if not at the top of my battery consumption screen, but the improved actual longevity is very significant. I recommend anyone having their battery run out format their SD card (and possibly USB storage) and see if that helps (obviously back up any important data first!). Good luck!
ORIGINAL POST
I'm getting pretty bad battery life, and it looks like "Android OS" is consuming most of it. I've rebooted (as suggested in other threads), checked OS Monitor for high-CPU usage processes, but nothing stands out. This is un-rooted, stock OS with no third party launchers installed.
I have a feeling if this issue was fixed, I'd be getting great battery life. This happening to anyone else?
Screenshots show the device at 38% after 6.5 hours off the charger.

That's an awful lot of awake time with no screen on time. Do you have things updating in the background frequently? I.e. social hub, Facebook, news widgets?
And not to be too obvious, but is your 4g antenna turned on?

No, I don't. I have fewer widgets and fewer accounts (haven't set up my work Exchange yet) than I previously had on my EVO, which got great battery life.
I've been on Android over a year and am quite familiar with how it works... I'm just unfamiliar with Samsung specifically and unrooted devices and was hoping someone might have a similar experience.
I have the same thing. Significantly more awake time then screen on time, and Android OS eating the battery. Also stock.
Same here too
I had this exact issue and no longer do. Here is what I did and posted in another thread:
OK I hope someone finds this useful and/or can verify. I was one of those people getting awful battery life, meaning lucky to last 8 hours from 100% to 0%. The "Android OS" process would take hours of CPU time. Now it will take up maybe 30 min over the course of the day. Here is the only thing I did between the time it went from bad to good. I changed the wifi sleep policy. It is by default (for me at least) set to never. I changed it to "when the screen turns off" and left it there for about an hour. Then went in and changed it back to never. From the point of doing this my battery life has been great.
I know it sounds strange but it seems to have worked for me so I thought I would share.

I rarely use wifi as well but this setting seemed to affect the phone in general, if your using wifi or not. I might just be crazy though. Either way I no longer have the issue so
does the google voice widget pull data in the background or is it a push thing?
I'm seeing high usage (60+%) by AndroidOS also (stock, unrooted, not using WiFi, not using 4G), although battery life has not been bad that I have noticed.
Watchdog Lite indicates that this is primarily due to two processes:
events/0
suspend

Hi guys,
Did a bit of tweaking lately after rooting/unlocking - removed bloatware, disabled Fast Dormancy, blocked m.googletalk.com, Greenify'd my apps and here is my battery life so far:
Settings overnight: Stock Rom 4.1.2 v10b TELSTRA AU, Wifi On (Always) , 2G networks (poor 3G reception in my area, 4G however is a different story) , Eco Mode, Auto-sync off.
Ignore the screen time on, I was quickly texting before sleeping lol
What do you guys think? (is this standard drain overnight? lol) - I'm also still trying to figure out msm_hsic_host wakelock and "Icing" (what the hell is that!)
I think msm_msic_host may have something to do with Cell Broadcast from the stock rom. Will test again tonight.
More than happy to assist in anyway I can!

Hi,
I too have a Telstra stock (E975K) Optimus G, do you mind sharing the steps you took to disable FD and what bloatwares you removed?
Thanks
Can someone please tell me which apps I have to remove from stock rom etc. I have no idea what "bloatware apps" mean - and what about all the different processes from various com.lge - what about them? Do you remove or freeze them?
Btw, I'm new on Android - my E9750 drains almost 20% during night, with WiFi and Sync off? My old iPhone drained maximum 1-2% during a 13 hour sleep - my android drains almost 20% in only 8 hours? ..But the phone still goes to deep sleep? So which annoying apps do I need to freeze or completly remove.. please, if someone could help?
Hi guys, after some extensive research and even guessing, the following apps can be frozen without losing any functionality as far as we know.
WiFi On / Sync On / LTE on = 3% lost overnight.

I will post statistics from BetterBatteryStats tomorrow for overnight drain! I had only disabled a portion of the aforementioned apps beforehand.

For people who are still having trouble with battery and wish to try to lengthen it, I've done a couple things to my G which I feel all together has helped.
To start, I am using CM 10 rom (not the latest, couple versions old) and the recent Hoocha kernel.
I'd also make a nandroid backup.. more for freezing apps so if you need to recover you can.
1) Install Rom Toolbox or Titanium Backup Pro - freeze apps that you are not using (except for system apps), particularly ones that you have noticed sit open or are running in the background that you are not using or do not need to be on. Try to thin it out.
2) With 4.2.2 I've found that my phone got super hot.. when I looked at clocks it was because my cpu is set to max on the frequency, 1500mhz. Using trickster mod I've gone in and done several things:
- Set the max clock frequency to lower.. I have mine set to 900mhz. Phone is perfectly fast even with the underclock.
- Set the voltages a step down for each frequency between 1ghz and 500mhz - less voltage, less heat
- Set the governor to Wheatley (or whichever you choose) and the deadline scheduler to sio.
3) Install greenify and disable apps from running in the background during sleep. Also, make sure google services are disabled so that they are not constantly waking up your phone from deep sleep. This is common knowledge but can't stress it enough.
4) When you're going to bed at night, put your phone into airplane mode unless you need your data on (are expecting calls between midnight and 8am)
The single greatest sleep drain, or overall drain for that matter, on my battery is the data connection. The phone is constantly trying to keep a signal and so its always searching.. meanwhile if your connection is particularly low reception wise, it will drain the battery that much faster.
When I was on vacation in mexico I had my phone on ariplane mode with wifi enabled almost the whole time. I could go an entire day with the above setup and lose 20% battery life with medium usage (music player, web browsing, some gaming). Meanwhile now I'm back in my home town with my data enabled, and I'm lucky to get to work and not have spent 15% while web surfing on 4g.
That being said, when I go to bed at night, if I put in airplane mode, in the morning I have lost ZERO battery.. this is no fluke.. I have done it now numerous times and during sleep it doesn't lose any battery.
Just some thoughts.. so far this setup has been working for me.

All correct. Screen & radios contribute the most to battery drain. I recommend that, if interested in battery life, you make judicious use of Tasker & Synker & Secure Settings to turn radios & sync off and on only when needed. Made a huge, huge difference for me.

Hi,
I have been able to follow to the aSQLiteManager screen and found the 50501 entry. But it seems like Optus (50502) isn't on the list!
Any advice what to do from here?
Thanks!

Hi guys, at that exact screen you will just need to add a new line!
So in that same page, you press New
insert ID as 45
Numeric as 50502
Leave extra ID blank, set fastdormancy to 0, ipmtu 0, mpdp as 1 and then press OK. Then save, all good! reboot and you shall have FD disabled

Hi hasan4791, I would recommend using Greenify (provided your phone is rooted) and freeze all your apps then. It won't have any system apps for you to freeze.
You will encounter an LG security error if your phone's bootloader isn't unlocked when freezing system apps through utilities such as TitaniumBackup, etc.

I just got the 4.4.2 KitKat update and now my battery life sucks!
My tablet was at 99% when I went to be last night and DID NOT USE it at all today, except when I tried to turn it on to read before bed time, the tablet shut off on its own because the battery went down to 1%!
Does anyone else have really poort battery life on their Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition after getting the 4.4.2 KitKat update?
Is there anything we can do about this?
I loved my tablet before I accepted this stupid update! Grrrrr!
Better take a look at battery status on settings
Can U take a screenshot at morning to see what's happening and share with us?

FYI, I just got this tablet yesterday and it comes with KitKat. Spend sometime turning off some bloatware from the Application Manager. No root yet for Wifi without KNOX tripping, so I can't disable any other apps. Played around with the tablet a little bit and the battery life is not good.
Stats:
- Wifi Always ON even during sleep
- GPS is ON
- BT off
- Samsung crap-features OFF (Smart Stay, Smart Scroll, etc.)
12 hours 42 minutes total time since charged

I have found that usually after a factory restore, Android os stats is usually high. It will eventually settle down.

But mine comes with 4.4.2 out of the box. It was not upgraded.
I have very bad battery life since I updated to kk. Talked to Samsung and they told me it was the battery. Send it to repairs and 2 weeks later I got it. It still got the same horrible battery life. Just 3h and 40 min of use.
If you wanna give this a try.....
[back-story]
When I received the US version of KK it too trashed my battery life and i don't know why but it does not benefit my tablet....
[/back-story]
The Spain, and now Mexico versions of the KK software work much better.

It's easily updatable via Odin, all languages are included, you do not need to be rooted, and it will not trip the Knox software counter.
Plenty of instructions around here if you stumble.... Good luck.

That means I have to reconfigure my tablet again.
Stupid Samsung! Just when I thought they got their **** straight.
Yeah you may have to put a little effort into this lol. Actually you can install right on top of it and you probably won't lose much but I would recommend a hard reset anyway to start fresh....
Sent from my SM-P600 using Tapatalk
I hard reset my tablet (remember, it's brand new), which already have 4.4.2. Configured Google account, disabled bloatware, turned off GPS, turned ON Wifi and installed Zinio for a test.
Left the tablet overnight, use it very slightly. Check out the battery drain caused by Android OS... It's definitely some sort of bloatware or 4.4.2...
I am having the same issues, was going to start a thread but will wait post here then to have some collected place to talk about possible solutions... IF AN IPAD HAD A STYLUS..... I like to be able to play around with all sorts of things but I wish there were two streams of android a stable working one and an experimental one.... sometimes it seems that even though its version 4.4 its still beta!
Note the 4.30 hour long screen time to deplete my battery from 100% to 15%... yes i know the stylus takes some toll but THAT is not acceptable.
Style of usage:
- used Papyrus for note taking
- had calculator open in floating window
- had screen brightness to 20%
- GPS off, Google Now off, little bit of music playing for about 2hours (headphones)
I noticed that my battery stats are not resetting!
I plug in the charger for a little bit and then unplug it but battery stats didn't reset?
This is so frustrating. I thought after giving the new rom some time to "settle" battery life still sucks!

Give this a try, some may not be applicable to you. I'm on 4.4 and right now I have 1day21hr and 4 1/2hrs on screen time and still have 35% battery left.
1) Turn off wifi always on
In Settings -> account -Go through each account (email, gmail, facebook Samsung etc..)and set them only sync what you needed:
2) Turn off sync for Samsung account
3) Only sync what you need for your google account (I only sync calendar).
4) Google+ account - turn off auto backup
In Settings -> cloud ->
5) turn off auto backup
In Settings -> backup and reset
6) turn off "backup my data"
7) Turn on "Power Saving"
8) Turn off location service (GPS)
You should be set...

I believe problems are less in standby time but more in screen on time. Standby barely uses any power (in my experience, except once where exchange service sucked it dry within a night) but screen on time causes much of the battery to be exhausted. your values however aren't very satifying as well if you say you had 4,5h of screen time (idk what you did then, playing games might be more energy exhausting) it shouldn't be that low. However its still better than my 4,5h and 8h total to go down to 18-10%

I don't think so. See my Screenshot. I left my device on its own and Android OS is keeping the device awake. And NO, it's not caused by installed apps,
I believe that's related to the new stock kernel.. are you on a stock rom? You can try a linaro's based kernel and post results...

And 4 of Samsung "bloatware" are right there, including that stupid AllShare Cast!!
Hmm....., I turned off these 2 and now I don't get too much "Android OS" awake now:
- Picasa Uploader
- Sapamonitor
In 9 hours, I have 4 hours of screen on time but only only 1.5 hours of Android OS.
Hello everyone!
I own a LG G3 D855 and from the moment I bought it, I've noticed problems regarding battery life. After some resets, the store changed my battery. Despite this, it remained more or less the same. I usually never pass 3 hours of screen-on-time (no gaming!) with a full charge. After that, I considered it was due to the 2K display and reports around the internet talk about 4 hours with this phone, so I became thinking it was quite normal to have this battery life (asking your opinion, guys). Notice I usually have wifi on; 3g, nfc and gps turned off.
However there's a second problem. Sometimes, at random days, like it happen today, I get android system using more battery than the screen:

I'm avoiding sending it over to the warranty, because I'll be 30 days without the phone and not sure they're figure out the problem.
PS: I'm running stock Lollipop, haven't rooted yet. Same behaviour when I had 4.4

I am pretty sure it's a software issue. The best way do diagnose them is to get root and install BBS (Better battery stats). It allows you to see everything - from cpu states to wakelocks and alarms.
If you don't want to root your phone, then your best bet is to reset your phone (Via recovery or via "Settings->Backup and restore" without adding a google account at initial screen (Or selecting "Set up as new device"), and then add it manually via "accounts and sync". This way, only calendar/contacts/bookmarks/etc will be restored to your phone, not settings. Then install mandatory apps (the less, the better. Preferably none at all...), and see if your battery life has improved. If it did, install apps in small batches and see which one affected battery this much.
About usual battery life:
"
Well, I too am getting around 6h sot on medium usage.
Setup used:
20% auto brightness. Apps report that phone stays 70-80% of time in "dim" state, 20% of time in "dark" state.
Constantly on: 4g, Bluetooth (paired and connected with headset), location services in high accuracy mode and sync.
Constantly off: nfs, WiFi.
Software:
1) Running in GCM push: Aqua Mail, Vkontakte, Google+, hangouts.
2) Running services: Google play services and headset application. I also use Poweramp which streams to Bluetooth headset for 1-2 hours a day.
3) Disabled/Deleted software: Google maps (It's insane wakelocks consumed battery back in ics era... nothing changed since then, lol), all other Google apps except search and Gplay, TAction, LG Email, LG MLT (I already disabled it by not agreeing to their policy, but just to be sure...), frozen LG Music (the widget too), LG Files and LG SmartCard service(I use Nova Launcher, so it doesn't work anyway). I set the location in Weather app manually, because in auto mode it tried to lock onto GPS signal each time i unlocked the device, which caused minute-long GPS wakelocks in subway.
4) I do not use Greenify or whatever. I cure the disease, not the symptoms - so i simply don't use apps which create a lot of wakelocks/alarms or do a lot of unnecessary background activity.
I use BBS (Better battery stats) to monitor behavior of new apps.
I get 5.40 to 6 h of sot, depending on usage. Using Twitch/YouTube/downloading roms drains battery in 4 hours, especially if signal is bad. Music/web browsing/minesweeping + 20-30 minutes of GPS gives me 6h of sot.

Thank you! I've hard reseted the phone and the battery seems the same or even worse. But I've configured the google account right away, despite having selected "configure as new phone". I'm gonna try to hard reset again and only configure it manually afterwards and see if it improves. If it doesn't, does it mean I might have a hardware issue?

It is possible, that is why we are trying to rule out software issues first. If stock 20H rom (this version's battery life is noticeably better than others, i recommend installing it), without Google account and user-installed applications is still losing battery like crazy then yes, you should go to service centre.
And yeah, after reset and setup leave the phone on charger for several hours (3-4 at least). May help in some cases...
I've followed your instructions and hard reseted the phone, manually configured the google account afterwards and installed zero apps except for GSAM battery.
Got total 8h battery at 60% until now but mostly standby. Used the phone for web browsing (Wifi). Everything else turned off. Around 1h sot, 60% battery left. Is this normal?

No, it is not. Android system is keeping a big wakelock on something... "Better battery stats' with root enabled can show you what exactly is keeping phone awake.
Is there any way to obtain this information without rooting? Because in my area they are quite picky regarding rooting when it comes to warranty :/

No, from 4.4 onwards that permission was moved to "system apps only" category. And you can't install BBS as system app wout root...
It's quite easy to return phone to full stock. Just flash stock kdz with CSE flash - voila, your phone has never been rooted.

1) Virus scan mobile wakelock. It's McAfee, and it's baad anti-virus software - delete it via titanium backup/system apps uninstaller or whatever, and never use it again.
Also, disable google's inbuilt apps checker. It can be disabled in "settings->security-> check apps" or in "Application drawer->google settings->security-> check for..."
2) Facebook. It sucks your battery. Seriously, google for it - it's very badly coded. People usually delete/greenify it.
Kernel wakelocks are not truly "wakelocks" on this phone, so don't worry about them.
That's all the info that i can extract from these screenshots.
Delete McAfee, disable google apps checker, delete/freeze/greenify Facebook and it's messenger, then report back. Battery life should drastically improve.
Yesterday my battery life got amazing. Drained 50% with 1 h sot before deleting the antivirus and got more than twice sot (plus 2h7min) with the last 50 %. But today is goimg nuts again... Battery life got better but I do still have problems. Yesterday I turn on GPS because I needed it. After that I turn it off but google maps kept apparently kept the GPS on. Still, today I froze the app with link2sd, but it just kept counting as if the GPS was on with the battery as being on (+3h lol).
With the BT not turning off according to the video, I starting to wonder whether there is any problem with the Snapdragon that doesn't allow me to turn GPS and Bluetooth really off. It also doesn't make sense to me the charging graphic --' it was unplugged the whole time.
Please help!

1) I found a tutorial saying to enter hidden menu in lg g3 and disabled fast dormancy from there. It solved the wakelocks. Is that equivalent to your suggestion?
2) I'll just uninstall them and install Here. I like it more anyway.

Just curious on this.. where can i find this com.android.phone?
Background:
So last night I went to bed and left my phone on my dresser with 30% battery. The phone normally drains a few % overnight. WiFi on, Location on (high accuracy), Mobile Data On, etc. I wake up this morning to find that my phone is completely dead. I thought it was pretty strange so I connected the phone to the charger for an hour or so and charged to about 96%. I disconnected my N5X from the charger and put it on my computer desk and sat down to play The Division for a little while. After about an hour, I noticed that my phone was still very warm and that my battery had sank down to 88%... I've never had this problem before, even on my current ROM and kernel setup, which I've been running for about a week now.
Problem: Insane battery drain. CPU is Awake 100% of the time, even when the screen is off. No Deep Sleep and No Doze.

I did notice, however, that the phone reported WiFi being on for a large portion of the day where I actually had turned the WiFi off. The gym I go to every day has horrible WiFi and I prefer to use LTE. I usually forget to turn WiFi back on after leaving to go back home and shower. So there's at least a 2-3 hour segment there where WiFi was absolutely not enabled, and yet the battery graph shows that it was....
Culprit:
This mother****er right here. com.google.android.gms. Specifically two alarms: ALARM_WAKEUP_LOCATOR and ALARM_WAKEUP_ACTIVITY_DETECTION. I'm not so sure about the latter, but the Alarm_wakeup_locator is actually waking the phone up at least twice a minute, which is insane. It's massacring my battery life as well.
Solution?
I've never had a battery drain problem like this before. In fact, I haven't had a drain problem like this in at least a year or two. I have no idea what to do to fix this. I've Googled this issue and there doesn't really seem to be a straight answer.
I think it has something to do with Google Now or Google Play Services, perhaps a location setting, but I've tried disabling Location for 2 hours now and it has not fixed this issue. I have considered perhaps disabling a service but I can't identify which service exactly is causing the issue.

Update! - March 22nd, 2016
After a second clean wipe and a switch to Pico Gapps, the problem was resolved. This gave me a barebones operating system in which the CPU was sleeping just fine when the screen was off. No wild wakelocks or alarms to report. One by one I reinstalled my favorite apps, avoiding almost anything by Google -- No drain / keep awake issue reoccurred. My phone is now back to normal with only one thing missing. Google Now. The Google app and Google Now Launcher are both NOT on my device and my phone is achieving some seriously sick battery life and SOT. I am confident that if anyone else is facing these issues that the culprit is Google Now and the Google Search app. Those experiencing this issue should try removing these apps if possible or clean wipe and install with a very minimal Gapps package, just as I did.
I get similar Google alarms too, but it shouldn't cause any drastic drain.
I recently had a massive battery drain but couldn't work out the cause. Was going down 30%+ overnight and nothing had really changed on the system (few new apps which I removed).
The only thing showing any high battery drain was Google play services but even that was only at 4-5% (104 ish mah in the battery stats from memory) which didn't tally with the massive drain I was showing.
Ended up having to do a full reset to sort it out and all fine now.
This was pre the March update and fixes, I did flash the fixes while I had the issue and nothing improved.

Yes but does your phone enter deep sleep? The only reason why I'm even looking at the alarms is because something is keeping this phone awake constantly.

Yes mine does go to sleep. Attaching some of my battery (mediocre) screenshots.
I would suggest turning off wifi and bluetooth scanning in location settings. I found it kept my wifi always active (even if wifi was turned off) when GPS was set to high accuracy. Sometime even if you change from high accuracy to battery saving, the wifi continued running til the phone is rebooted (at least in my case). Bad network will also cause drain, but none of these should keep the CPU firing always. Have you checked the CPU states? Is Google Service keeping you mobile radio active? How about Android OS?

Mobile signal is excellent. Full bars of LTE at work (which is where I am now). The top battery users (besides the screen) are Android System and Google Play Services. Attached are some screenshots of the keep awake times.. Something very strange is happening here. Bluetooth and WiFi scanning are both off I. Location settings.
Just factory wipes for the second time but went with a Pico Gapps package and the drain is gone. The cpu sleeps now whwn the screen is off. I haven't logged into Google yet, so I'm not sure of the cause yet.

i got the exact same problem with you.
Phone was idle overnight, WiFi on, Location set on High.
Forgot to install BBS so i cannot see what's causing it but i think it is the same thing that causes your battery to die.

Factory resetting and reinstalling my ROM with the smallest gapps package possible (Pico Gapps) fixed the issue for me. I'm starting to think it was Google Now. Shame, I really liked Google Now too, but I've signed in and installed some of my favorite apps already and there's no drain and the CPU is sleeping like a baby with the screen off.

Yep. That's exactly what I did. Just keep an eye on the battery graph and reset the stats. I put the phone down, walked away and then came back 5 minutes later. I checked the graph and the phone went to sleep after a minute or two so I knew it was fixed. Just remember to let the ROM settle for a little while before doing this. After flashing a ROM lots of stuff needs to settle in the background.

Okay, done the exact same steps *fingers crossed*
By any chance, do you use any battery saving apps such as Amplify or Greenify?

Nice, the screenshots look promising.
Also, no, I prefer not to use apps like that and let the Operating System do its thing. I did almost consider using one of those if I couldn't figure out how to fix this problem but you can get into trouble pretty fast with those apps if you disable/slowdown/restrict/greenify the wrong thing.

yeah Right, almost installed Xposed only to use Amplify to reduce the Play Service wakelock.
will fully charge this device tonight, and leave it on idle till morning.
I do have Amplify installed to tame play services, but now I'm being tempted to do a clean flash (maybe this is all that is required? Not everyone using the same GApps package seems to be reporting such issues) and try a different GApps packages. Currently on PN GApps. Lets see how long the thought of wiping the data and reinstalling all the apps continue to put me off.
Made the mistake of firing up Google Opinion Rewards today and it asked me if I wanted to use my Location History. I declined and it somehow started destroying my battery life anyways. CPU is being held awake again. Can Google design a single ****ing app correctly?

Are you sure it doesn't have anything to do with any custom software you're using? I'm on a stock device (no root) and have no such issues, I've got just about every Google app installed and use Google now regularly.

I actually wiped the phone and reinstalled apps one by one until the issue came back and it stemmed from ElementalX's Kernel Management app somehow. I haven't contacted Flar2 about it yet because I'm not sure if it's from a setting that I touched or just the app itself.

What is EXKM causing? I thought previously Google Services was the problem.
How did you narrow it down to that app? I have it too, maybe i can test.

I installed the apps I like one by one and recorded them on a list on my computer. After each app install I wiped the battery graph and let it sit with the screen off for a minute or two and checked to see if the CPU was being held awake. I installed like 15 apps before I got to Google Keyboard and EXKM. I installed both at the same time and repeated the procedure. When I looked at my phone, it was being held awake so I knew the culprit was either Google Keyboard or EXKM. I uninstalled Google Keyboard and did a reboot. Phone was still being held awake. I uninstalled EXKM and did a reboot, phone went into deep sleep. I reinstalled Google Keyboard, CPU still wasn't being held awake. I installed EXKM again after a few minutes and the awake issue came back. I uninstalled EXKM and proceeded to install more apps and the phone functions completely normally. I have no idea how EXKM can hold the phone awake like that but I'm guessing its a setting in there that is broken? I installed Kernel Adiutor and applied the same settings and tweaks that I normally would with EXKM and there was still no CPU awake issue so it's gotta be that app.
