will 1clickroot software work for rooting a nexus 7 2013 ? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

question is pretty simple. i have used this software before to root my devices (galaxy ace, fit) and it works good.
oneclickroot.com
i am wondering if it will work on my nexus 7 2013 tablet. has anybody tried it?
i prefer it because its easy just 1 click.
i only want to root my device to use applications and have no intentions of using custom roms so do i have to unlock the boot loader?
thank you.

Hi!
Yes, you need to unlock the bootloader before rooting your tablet.
Use NRT - is a simplest way.

If you use a toolkit, you won't learn anything. Use this method, just skip the part about drivers.
This makes me sick. I'm sorry.

Jesus Christ man... you're running Linux and you want a toolkit to root your Android phone? What the hell has this world come to.

In that case, read and learn. Otherwise, you'll just be back here in a panic posting a thread asking for help with your soft brick. Too many of the "my phone's broken, what do I do?" threads start with "so, I used this toolkit". That's why so many people are anti-toolkit at this point.

[APP][2015-01-12][root][N4] BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices -- version 1.6.1

BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices -- Unlock your bootloader without fastboot.

This is cross-posted from the the Galaxy Nexus forum, where the app got started. The app supports Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, and Nexus 10, and we are working on other Nexus devices. Please direct your support questions to the original thread.

STABLE version: (a) XDA post, (b) XDA download, (c) Google Play download
BETA version: (a) XDA post, (b) XDA download
Description
This application REQUIRES a Galaxy Nexus (maguro, toro or toroplus), Nexus 4 (mako), Nexus 5 (hammerhead), Nexus 7 2013 (deb or flo), Nexus 10 (manta), OnePlus One (bacon / A0001), OnePlus 2 (OnePlus2), or OnePlus X (OnePlus / ONE / E1001), with root.
You've rooted your device, and you are trying to decide between the security of relocking your bootloader (with stock recovery and USB Debugging off), and the flexibility of leaving it unlocked.
You know that in order to prevent an unauthorized user from accessing your data by flashing a custom recovery, "fastboot oem unlock" wipes your data. This also means that if you relock your bootloader, you will need to do a full backup-and-restore whenever you decide to unlock it again.
BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices lets you have the best of both worlds by using root privileges to unlock your bootloader from within Android, without wiping your data. This allows you to keep your bootloader locked for security, with this application safely protected behind your lockscreen password. Whenever you want to unlock or relock your bootloader, just unlock your screen and run BootUnlocker.

Just saw the update on my gnex. Glad it supports n4 already. Downloading on my n4 now. Great work!
Edit: confirmed working.

I'm really glad you've brought this over to the Nexus 4. This is an excellent contribution to the community.
I have a small doubt and i hope you don't mind clearing it. I just got my N4 and i was considering rooting it, my doubt is that once i unlock the boot loader can i relock it? On my old htc explorer it was possible to re lock but it showed the status as re locked instead of locked hence voiding the warranty. Can i relock it and get my warranty back again? Sorry for a probably noobish question.

It won't show as re locked. It'll be simply 'locked' whether you use the app or manually do it via terminal

Thanks. So it's safe to root it then? Won't cause any problems with my warranty right?

If it's a question on being safe, I'm pretty sure most people with sense will always say "do it at your own risk" because we are concerned about your warranty. Nexus devices are the easiest to bootloader unlocked and root and flash and viceversa but the user still has to take responsibility.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
That's fine. I'll do it at my own risk! Only thing I was worried about was the warranty. Now that you say it can be locked again I don't have any problem! Thanks!

thanks for this. maybe put a a disclaimer like the one said in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1898664
advantages:
- doesn't require encryption (for those who do not wish to use it).
Disadvantages:
- relies on third-party apps.
- method will not work if you lose root access for whatever reason.
- method will not work when you cannot boot into Android for whatever reason.

i am quite new to this area so my question is, once I have relocked the bootloader, does the stock recovery allows for nandroid backup etc? and since in the worst case scenario that i am not able to boot, i have no other alternative other than doing a fastboot oem unlock?
thanks for your time!
The stock recovery does not do nandroid backups. You don't have to flash the stock recovery in order to lock the bootloader, but it is a good idea...

Sorry, not wanting to thread hi-jack here or anything, but this seems like the best place to mention it. If you've ever had the experience of rebooting to bootloader and you've forgetten to unlock in BootUnlocker first, or, you really screwed something up and can't boot the OS in the first place to unlock with the app, I made a recovery flashable zip that will do the same thing. Always handy to have on hand in case of emergencies.
Available in my Odds and Ends thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239421
Cheers! :good:
Edit: I see it answers all of @azrash's disadvantages list too.
Just a quick note to confirm that this fantastic tool works with the new nexus4 MAKOZ20i bootloader (android 4.3 JWR66N & JWR66V).

[Q] Phone root using tablet

Hello everyone.
I was wondering if it would be possible to root my galaxy nexus using my tablet, which is 2013 version nexus 7, running none other than 4.3. I have an otg cable and keyboard and all the equipment I think I would need. Would I be able to root my phone or any other phones/ unlock them or unlock the bootloaders? I have a great terminal app that I would most likely need. Please tell me all that i would need to do different than on another computer including Fastboot and ADB, as well as drivers.

There was a way to setup adb and fastboot on Android devices a while back. Not sure if it was kept up to date and still works. But if it does then yes you can use a tablet to root your device.
Anyone know how to do this. Can i run ADB and Fastboot in any way on my nexus 7?

Rooting the LTE Nexus 7

When I got my Nexus 5 I was able to find a quick and easy guide to unlock and root it. I just picked up a LTE Nexus 7 and I can't seem to find one. I find links to some toolkits but they seem to be for an older software revision then what is on my LTE Nexus 7 and also most of them either have broken links or some other problem. Can anyone direct me to a thread with a working and clear set of steps to follow to unlock and root my new LTE Nexus 7?

Yes, I was also looking for some sort of 1 click unroot or video tutorial but didn't find anything. The Nexus Toolkit (even the most recent 1.73 version) doesn't work. I go through all the steps listed etc... but without success.

[Q] Question about warranty when unlocking bootloader and installing custom ROMS

Will I really lose my warranty if I unlock the bootloader and install custom ROMS?
And will I get back my warranty if I relock the boot loader and flash stock ROM?
Asus can't see I flashed my device in the past if I have stock ROM with locked bootloader, can they?
Can anyone tell me how this works exactly?
Everywhere I read I MAY risk to lose warranty.
Thanks in advance!

No (well...can go either way)
Yes (although you don't really lose it in the first place)
Once you've flashed the factory image and relocked the bootloader, no they can't (only Nexus to have a tamper flag is the N5)
That warning is standard on all unlockable devices. It's a standard disclaimer they put on there just like any other company would (to cover their butts). However, I do see where the company is coming from. I've seen noobs unlock and start flashing, and then end up messing their device up beyond recovery. They then feel they have the right to get it repaired free of charge. If you know what you are doing, chances are good you'll be fine. If something is actually defective, and as long as you still have to ability to flash stock image and relock, you're good. That being said, I've also read stories of people getting RMAs successfully even though they were unlocked/rooted/ROMed. As long as you can make a case that the defect wasn't caused by your own doing, I would imagine you'd be okay.

Thanks mate for your explanation, I was looking for this.
I have some experience flashing android devices so I probably won't mess up my device I have bought my nexus 7 2013 recently and I don't want to have no warranty when I discover a hardware issue.. But everything seems to be fine actually. I'll install a cm 11 nightly soon.

If you should ever need to bring your N7 to the service within the warranty, you will flash a stock ROM, unroot and lock the bootloader. Then you're 100% stock again with no sign of mods.
Do you have a N7 razor 2013?

Good. Yes, it is probably razor flo, check to be sure. I have the same one. Just keep in mind to save all your data and settings elswhere as unlocking the bootloader for the first time will instantly wipe whole your tab and poasibly even corrupt the /data partition.
I have written this morning how to get out of it in one other N7 thread.
