Hey guys!
I went to the beach yesterday and got my phone drowned accidentally (was bound to happen anyway). I took the phone quickly out of the water and switched it off. The phone is now kept in a bag of rice and it's been a while, say, 15 hours...I was wondering if it would cause any harm if I kept it outside in the sun to speed up the drying process? Any thoughts on this?

The phone needs to be kept in rice for at last 3-4 days for the procedure to work. You could try opening it up, but there is always a fear of something going wrong.
If you have any skill go on YouTube and look up a disassembly and talk it apart and dry manually

I had my phone out under a tarp when it was raining - but water found its way and had a few drops sitting on it. I couldnt use the up, down or the in between enter key. Now the down key is coming back - but not the other two options - and it is having small issues like not always shutting the backlight off, or scrolling when Im not trying to.
I took it all apart twice to make sure there wasn't any water in it - and other than some mild moisture - it seemed okay.
Am I out of luck with this phone getting back to normal?
Is there anything else I should try?
Take the battery out and, leaving the battery cover off, leave it in the airing-cupboard for a couple of days to SLOWLY dry out.
Rain water should be okay, there are usually too few dissolved minerals in it to crystallise on the board and bridge gaps between tracks but damp and volts don't really play together nicely.
Good luck.
In anoher forum people suggested to put the phone in a bowl of rice, being the rice absorbs the moister faster than just evaporating.

Agreed, my phone has been through gallons upon gallons of water, and have never had a problem xDD
What's up guys, I recently dropped my G2 in a puddle of water,
I was wondering if it was a good idea to get it fixed by HTC or if you guys have any other recommendations of G2 repair companies?
You should have taken the battery out ASAP and then just leave it out and unplugged overnight. It will be fine.
I did take the battery out, but the LCD has a greenish hue, the wifi is unresponsive, and the haptic feedback is off. Does this mean I need to get all of these components in order for it to work?
Take the battery out and put it in a tub of rice.

If it was already submerged completely and the tub of rice doesn't work, one more last ditch thing you can try is to submerge and rinse it out in a bucket of CLEAN (ideally distilled, at a minimum filtered) water.
If there were minerals (or other contaminants) in the water/liquid it was submerged in they could still be on the circuit board, the clean water might just clean it off.
Of course after you try this you need to let it dry for at least 24 hours then submerge it in rice for another 24 hours.
(The rice will absorb the water)
My boss once dropped his blackberry in a toilet and used this method, he did not use rice though, tried it after a day of drying and it didn't work, tried it again 24 hours later and it still didn't work but on the 3rd day the device came back to life so he called it the "JesusBerry" for the next ~year until he upgraded.
BTW you are probably screwed, so don't get your hopes up.
Yeah, ideally you should let that thing dry out for more than 3 days. I know we all "need" our phones, but if you want it to work properly, you're just going to have to wait. I dropped my BB in the toilet, took the battery out, rinsed it, and let it sit. I was impatient and tried to use it the next day - it was all messed up. Three days later, it started to function, but there were a lot of glitches - and I mean a lot. Not until a couple of weeks was it functioning as it should. If you are under warrantee from HTC or have phone insurance, I suggest you just send it in.
You should have left the bb in the toilet where it belongs.

Hey now, that was a low blow =P Former Berry Addict myself turned Android Addict =D
Like others have said, patience is key. The last thing you want to do with a wet device is try to run power through it. Take the battery out, let it sit in a warm, dry place for a day or two, then transfer into some rice and see what happens on day 3 or 4. You may still be out of luck, but worth a try.
I had an old Sony Ericcson dumb-phone years ago that I took on a long bike ride on a hot summer day in my rear jersey pocket. After 4 hours of riding and soaking in my sweat it was toast. Used that method and in 3 days it was alive and kicking again =D
Good luck! Maybe you'll end up with a Jesus-Z =P
Me too.

I'm also coming from a bb phone. That thing was a pain in my balls. Constantly freezing up,not enough memory, took centuries for the thing to boot up & the list goes on & on. Not that I'm bitter about it or anything, just saying. It had it's problems. Sorry if I offended anyone.
Everyone can hate on blackberries but one thing is for sure: they have kick ass battery life.
And that's the only reason why I would get a blackberry. Especially for those camping trips without electricity..

Yeah I do see myself paying money (smh) in the near future to get this phone fixed, I guess my best bet is to find a bricked G2 and use it for its parts.
Yeah the methods worked but I am still having problems with the wifi and the screen is ugly. The LCD is green but as a phone it works, I might have to buy a bricked G2. Anybody knows who have a bricked G2?

Well this was ~10 years ago and at the time a BlackBerry (957) was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
this is a horrible day for g2 users....R.I.P lmao
Yeah, the BB was a pain in my ass too, but whoever said the battery life was awesome is right. I didnt have a data plan with it, so I never used it to its capacity. Also, If you'd like your personal info synced to your computer only and not Google, then the BB is where it's at. But anyways, did this guy ever ay what he did with the phone?
I resently had my phone dropped in water. My screen seemed a bit off in color. I removed the battery and placed the phone on top if my cable box for a day and it was fine after that.

Ugh, sorry to resurrect this thread, but did that fix it for you? My g2 decided to take a bath in the toilet and the very first thing I did was take the battery out, dry it off with toilet paper as thoroughly as possible (including the sim card, memory and headphone jack slots) prop it with with the keyboard apart and on its side to maximize airflow in front of a fan. I'm going to go to sleep with it like this and hopefully it will turn on tomorrow....
Aha... After my first phone fell in some water, I never ever brought it near anything that could be damaged by water. Lol an advice, don't ever bring your phone when your using the bathroom... leave it on the bed. So yea I paid a lot for my G2 and don't want it f**ked up you know.

Geez, that do you do with your time when you're sitting on the toilet?
Recently my phone was introduced to some water. Everything works except for the touchscreen. It works however left is right right is left. My question is besides opening up cleaning / repairing. Would it be possible to reverse the settings some how to make it work correctly again. I figured with the right guidence I could figure something out.
Thanks in advance.

Was it alot of water? and recently?
Because when i accidently spilled some water on mine, the touchscreen went !"#ยค it didnt react or reacted very slow, so I just removed the battery and let it dry over the night and it just good as new the next morning
try let it dry in a bag of uncooked rice
It was about 2 weeks ago actually. I did everything you could think of when it happened, but yes it was a lot of water and for a good 5 - 10 mins. So I guess all and all this being my only problem I shouldn't complain. I did try the rice thing as well so I'm fairly certain if it was gonna start working it would've by now. My plan was to try and see if I could do it some how within android before I open her up and replace the digitizer or clean if I can.
Droids don't belong in the sink.
Good news, it's ALMOST working. It stayed on, and actually Skype stayed on broadcasting its drop. I panicked, pulled it out, tried to turn it off, pulled battery. Ended up it bootloop.
Flashed a series of images most of the days and finally this process seemed to get me the closest.
1. Flash CWM to boot.
2. Reboot in unlocked fastboot
3. Flash Google stock images
It ACTUALLY booted. I had WiFi, cellular connection and a touch screen.
The touch screen became sluggish, stopped working, my phone restarted itself.
Back to boot loop. Tells me all the hardware is working, just intermittently.
Don't know what else to do.
I'm confused. Is this a story about your phone surviving "water?" Or are you simply looking for help on what to do because your phone is boot looping?
If it's help then it was probably a bad idea to turn the phone back on. Best thing to do is put it in a bag of rice and leave it there for a couple of days for everything to dry. I'm not sure what there is to do now because you already turned it back on and it could of caused permanent damage to your phone. You can put it in a bag of rice and see what happens anyway. You might get lucky.
When you drop any gadget in water, best thing to do is immediately remove the battery and leave it in a bowl of rice for a day or two.

all i know is i'll be damned if i ever decide to do a water(or liquid of any kind) test on this phone or any other phone for that matter. phyiscal abuse is a different story....
from my experience, a phone can really take a beating, but when it comes to liquids.. game over!
I should know better. I just wish the person I was Skyping with recorded the demise of my Droid
Just dry it out for a few days, or longer as others have mentioned above, i had a magic that was fully soaked that would boot fine after a few hours of drying but it took almost a week before the touch screen was working stably, i gave it to a friend as i had already replaced it and it went on to be used daily for another couple of years.
I saw somewhere that you can dunk it in rubbing alcohol to displace the water before you put it in rice.

I wouldn't recommend that. I'd recommend opening up the case since warranty shot anyways and pat dry as much as possible, then stick in rice.

So, while juggling two toddlers last night during bath time, my phone gets knocked into a sink full of running hot water. I immediately snatched it out, shook, stripped the case, back, battery, and cards. Ran to kitchen and threw it in a bag of rice. Sat in it from 21:00-04:00 this morning. I put it back together and... Nothing. No lights or anything. So, I plugged it in, figuring: F**k it. It's fried anyhow and I'm screwed. The charging indicator came on fire half a second then went off. On/off. Repeatedly. Unplugged. Removed back and battery. Plug. Nothing. Unplugged. Half a second charge and half a second boot screen. Nothing. Put battery back in and pulled battery as soon as indicator came on. Stayed on for 10 seconds. Repeated, and reinstalled battery as boot screen came on. Fired up. Still running. SOOOO... How screwed am I if at all?

There is likely still moisture in your phone -- I would leave it in a bag of rice for a few days... leaving it in rice for a few hours does almost nothing. Make sure you protect the earphone plug, rice will get in there and then you are really in hot water. Still, only time will tell... You could get lucky, or unlucky... water issues could surface much later. Moisture is very hard to get rid of... key is to leave it in a very dry environment for a long time. If you can, find a place to buy those gel packs that they put in new shoes, and new electronics... Rushing to use the phone is not a good idea.
Personally I would disassemble the phone and put all the parts in front of a fan overnight. You don't have to be crazy with the dissassembly, just enough to get good airflow inside the case of the phone. These things are super easy to take apart.
Wait a few days or even weeks and you'll see: it's dead.
Still working like a champ! Not a single glitch since. I'm gonna retire it once the Note 7 (SIX) comes out anyhow, I figure. It's paid off now. Just gonna get that yearly upgrade plan they have now: this is the first phone, despite its shortcomings, to actually last me over a year anyhow.

Still working! Sweet. Maybe I only got marginal water into the device itself? Kinda impressed. It was completely submerged for a second.
