[Q] When does UK get the 1.40 "camera" update - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
Im reading online that alot of people have the 1.40 "camera overhaul" update, which is supposed to be live in Europe now.
My M9 is on EE UK and was wondering if anyone knows when it will be rolling out from carriers here.
Thanks

I got it last week. Mine is a unbranded/non network M9. Did you get your M9 from EE?

I did yeah. I looked on the EE forum but no answers. I have Sim Unlocked my M9, but Im just a little nervous about doing a "return to stock" and making it unbranded. I know you probably cant go wrong if you get a good guide and follow it, but... hehe... Im a bit nervous.
Also, Im not sure if i can... Im on 1.32.61.15 L 502... doesnt the latest Sunshine 3.17 only support 501 so far?

Hmmm, seems like it's down to EE when they release the update. This is why I didn't get a network HTC this year.
I understand your nervousness about unbranding the phone, although when I did it with my Three M8 it was actually surprisingly easy.

Yeah it looks quite simple actually. but the reason Im nervous is because I "bootlooped" my old crimson M8 a few months back, even though that was due to not removing superSU properly when i tried to unroot it, but HTCs are not like Samsung device with a simple ODIN flash, HTC have made these handsets so hard to work with.. its crazy.
I dont know, I might bite the bullet and unbrand it yet, Im very careful when doing stuff like this so, I can probably do it.
Can you recommend a good back to stock guide

Okay, dont look for "going back to stock", as discussed:
HTCdev unlock (remember this wipes your phone)
Install TWRP from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/orig-development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3066720
do a "proper" backup (as discussed in post 3 of the twrp thread)
install SuperSU
run Sunshine to get s-off
once s-off: "fastboot oem writecid HTC__001"
flash full international unbranded RUU (ie a x.xx.401.x edition) check here and here (post 5 seems to have 1.40.401.8 ruu) ... also RUU will wipe your phone
BTW, read the threads about flashing those large RUUs, you'll either need to use the sdcard method or htc_fastboot.exe
I personally havent tried them, so check those threads for additional info.
remain UNLOCKED and most certainly remain S-OFF

[Q] installing other roms to unlock boot loader

I have a gsm usa t-mobel wildfire s pg76240. At this time the ruu is not listed on the htc dev web-sight. Its my understanding the bootloader is locked and there is no work arounds untill they update or release a ruu for this phone.
I have see a few post about people useing a different rom one there is a ruu for and unlocking the bootloader.
is this true. If say is it safe are there any chances of bringing the phone?
Thanks for reading my post
Hi, I'm on Tmobile UK and there is an RUU for my phone but it doesn't work, have also tried several others but no luck yet. Think might have to wait a long time for Tmobile to be so kind as to turn out an update,
As you can probably tell, this is my last contract with Tmobile.

Flash the latest euro ruu.
You will need to create a goldcard first.
Tried that too, still not working. What did you use?

No, stupidly thought it would be an easy process when I read " HTC Unlock Wildfire S bootloader".
Might have to look at creating a gold card.
Thanks
what about phones with no ruu

[Q] Updating my HTC One M8

Hey guys,
I've been searching but couldn't find anything that really helps with my problem. I bought an HTC One M8 last year, it was supposed to be unlocked from factory but when it arrived it turned out it was an unlocked AT&T model. Anyways so I tried to root the phone but it was already rooted and running a TWRP (I don't know how this happened as the phone was sealed when I got it) I have no problem with this but as the phone is rooted and doesn't have the stock recovery I can't get any OTA and I'm still in 4.4.2. I was wondering if any of you guys could help me update my device to stock 5.0.1 without flashing a custom ROM.
Thanks

First off, there is no stock 5.0.1 for the AT&T version yet. There isn't even a 4.4.4 released yes (although it might be anytime soon).
Further, you aren't going to receive any OTAs since you aren't connected to the AT&T network. Some folks not specifically familiar with AT&T will disagree, saying the OTAs will come over WiFi even if not connected to the specific carrier. But AT&T is pretty unique in this regard (well, maybe other carriers in the US do it too, but not WWE versions).
You can download an official RUU to upgrade to 4.4.3. Then wait for RUUs to be posted for 4.4.4 and/or 5.0.1. That is all you can do at this time without s-off. With s-off, you can convert to any version you want, and get official OTAs that way (such as convert to WWE version), or run the US Developer's Edition 5.0 RUU.

World Wide English. Which doesn't really say much. Its the "international" version sold in Europe and other places.

Nope, your second option won't work. You need firmware on your phone that is compatible with 5.0.1, otherwise WiFi will be broken, and.or extreme long boot times (>10 minutes). And the only way to update your firmware is with s-off (until AT&T releases more updates).
So really, if you want to update now, your only option is s-off.
Ok dude, thanks for your help. I guess I'll have to s-off

If you want to update now, that is what I suggest. I don't see LP coming to AT&T for another month at least, and it might be even longer than that (months). We're still waiting for 4.4.4.
Be sure to check bootloader and confirm if its s-on or s-off (says one or the other near the top of the hboot screen). Since it was already rooted and bootloader unlocked, who knows, you might have lucked out and gotten a phone that is already s-off as well.
Yeah and like you said if I'm not connected to the AT&T network I might never get the update so it is the only option. BTW I checked and it's S-On =(
Thanks for your help.

[Q] Stock Recovery Question

Hey guys,
First post and thread, unfortunately. May have been done before, so sorry if that's the case (and if it is I guess a quick link can clear this confusion up!)
I've got a tmobile HTC One M8 running Android 4.4.4 with an unlocked boot loader, clockworkmod 6.0.4.8 with s-on.
New android update is out and while I'm not necessarily keen on updating it, the icon is annoying. As well, I originally rooted the phone for some apps and sorts that I don't even use and I'm mainly interested in just bringing the phone back to a stock recovery so I can unroot it.
Tried using the RUU posted but I believe due to the s-on and unlocked boot loader, it doesn't work for me. Step one is an error on it.
What can I do here to bring the phone back to stock recovery? I'm not 100% I made a backup before I put cwm on it. May have but for arguments sake let's say I didn't.
Any and all help is appreciated. thanks so much everyone.

RUUs run fine with s-on, and I don't know why folks keep posting that it doesn't.
But you do however, need to relock the bootloader (since you are s-on) to run the RUU. Its absolutely mandatory (with s-on), and almost certainly why the RUU fails. THe RUU also needs to match your CID (but if you are properly trying a T-Mob RUU on a T-Mob version M8, that is not the issue), and further you cannot "downgrade" or run an older version RUU (older hboot) than what is on the phone.
But again, unlocked bootloader alone will make the RUU fail.
I haven't really seen a whole lot of s-off since firewater hasn't worked any longer. I kind of figured the unlocked bootloader was an issue as well. Mobile right now and working so not a whole lot I can do. Basically make sure the CID matches the RUU and relock the bootloader and I should be good to go? I picked up the T-Mobile RUU and I have a tmobIle M8, I didn't really think to check the CID, I just mainly assumed the failed run was from other sources.

As long as you have the right carrier RUU, the CID will also match. I assume T-Mobile US? As there is also T-Mobile in Europe.
As long as its right carrier (CID) and not trying to run an older version RUU, the unlocked bootloader is the only problem.
Yes T-Mobile US.
I'll have to double check the RUU, I'm pretty sure I grabbed it off here from a different thread, but like you said, the unlocked bootloader obviously was an issue.
In the case, and I'm assuming it's rare, that it could be that, is there an easy way to tell whether or not I have the most current RUU?
Thanks a bunch, really appreciating the help. I've been kind of at a standstill with this and haven't really tried much in fear of killing the phone.

Do you mean its rare to run the wrong version RUU? If so, I'd say no, its not rare at all. Folks are often not aware of the version requirement (with s-on, this requirement is bypassed with s-off) and try to run an "old" RUU.
All the T-Mob US RUUs are posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714456
3.32 is Android 4.4.4
4.20 is Android 5.0
3.32 is what I have at the moment. With android 5 coming over the air a week or so ago for myself and 4.4.4 being on the phone when I got it just a couple months back, that's what I guess I was insinuating by rare. But thank you a bunch for your help. Again it's very much appreciated. Obviously got myself in a little over my head here.

Just got an M9 today and need some tips...

Hello everyone, I I just got an M9 at my local Telus store and I would like to be able to do everything with it like I am able to do with my M7, so I know I will need to use sunshine to get S-OFF and I would also like to be able to change everything from the rom to the kernel to the OS, everything, so I was just wondering if someone could let me know the best order to go about doing things, meaning should I do sunshine first then worry about flashing a recovery and all that, or should I do the recovery first so that I can backup the phones current state? The phone currently says this in the hboot screen:
*** LOCKED ***
LK-1.0.0.0000
OS-1.32.661.6
and this is what it says on the phones Setting-About-Software screen:
Android version
5.0.2
HTC Sense version
7.0
Like I mentioned before, it would probably be best if I can make a backup of the phones current state just in case there are any issues, so to do that I know I need a recovery, but do I need to do the HTC Dev unlocker before I can do so? or do I have to flash a recovery first before everything else?
Now, before anyone gets upset with me for asking these questions because they have most likely been asked 1000 times before, I am not asking to be spoon feed all the details step by step, I am just asking to be pointed in the right direction and asking for you guy's opinions on the best way to go about doing things so that I do them right the first time... So if anyone could please take a minute to help me out and get me pointed in the right direction then it would be greatly appreciated... thank you very much...

First thing you should do is unlock your bootloader. After that you can install twrp and flash supersu (most can be found here) Once you are rooted run sunshine. After that the sky is the limit. You will be free to flash anything and everything. I know because I've done it. If you want to convert to a developers edition there is a post here. Personally I do not use my stock recovery or system image backups to download ota's. I prefer to run an RUU and do fresh installs. Reason why is because I am constantly changing firmware and roms. A lot of roms are based on the WWE firmware.
let me know if you have any more questions

Thank you very much for the tips.. Do I use the HTC Dev website to unlock the bootloader? I seen a link in the dev thread that said Unlock bootloader without HTCDev(root required), but I bet that the HTCDev way is probably the best best. which did you use? I've used htcdev for all 2 out o 3 of my m9's. third one is a developer edition so it wasn't needed.
just note download mode is fastboot mode on the m9. htcdev says to boot to fastboot mode and if you do not know than you can waste hours trying to figure it out.

Ok so I got the bootloader unlocked and TWRP installed, right now I am taking a backup of the phones current state just in case. Now I just need to flash the SuperSU beta from the link you provided and then run sunshine, after that I would like to flash the latest OS for my phone, but I am not sure which version to use, I think this one is correct http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-red-t3097678 but I am not 100% sure, do you know if this is the correct latest version for my phone?
Also should I supercid my phone before updating the firmware by entering "fastboot oem writecid 11111111" while in download mode? because my cid is TELUS001 and I do not see that cid listed in the androidinfo.txt file that is in the firmware zip...
Thanks again for all your help...

I was actually just going to tell you to type
Code:
fastboot getvar all
while in download mode and to copy and paste that into a file a text file somewhere so you always have it. then you can supercid. I actually have never seen any firmware for your carrier. what is your mid? this is where I get all of my firmware from. I learned how to remove the red text using hex editor and I also throw in a custom splash screen before I flash.
Here is a link for your stock firmware. not sure what the most up to date is but most custom roms are using the WWE firmware anyways.
p.s. either quote me or tag me if you need a faster response. I'm not getting notifications otherwise.

Need help restoring factory specs

So I bought this 'new' phone with the intention of rooting it and got to the point of updating to the latest firmware before root. turns out the phone is already 'modified'. contacted htc support looking for a means to restore factory specs but they say it has been rooted and it'll take another 2-3 days before i can further pursue the issue.
wondering if someone here can enlighten me as to how i'd restore stock before i re-root (there's no telling what mischief the rooter was up to). it was pretty easy on my old samsung with odin but this is my first htc so i'm in unknown territory here. the phone is in an otherwise impeccable state so i'm not really bothered about returning it since i can't imagine anything that might survive a factory reflash.
a little guidance would be much appreciated!
Take a look at the ReadMe thread. The RUU section most likely contains everything you need. I personally recommend the SD card method. It's the easiest and most fail-safe one.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Labs
Been poring through it but frankly it is overwhelming. Wonder if you could answer a few noob questions.
1. the ruu section says not to re-lock the bootloader. will flashing an ruu re-lock the bootloader?
2. found my ruu which seems to be a sprint cdma version (sku:651). however the cid (SPCS_001) does not match with mine (11111111). not sure where to find the MID. where does this mismatch leave me?
3. will flashing the sprint cdma fw lock my carrier (ie prevent me from using other sim cards)
4. does the ruu rewrite/restore all of the partitions e.g. including recovery? (considering an unknown person has rooted and tinkered with the phone).

No. Re-locking the bootloader requires the usage of a certain fastboot command.

Your phone currently uses the SuperCID. That CID had a whole bunch of benefits on older HTC devices. It lost most of them on the M9, though. Changing the CID is only possible with S-OFF. I highly recommend you to use the conversion guide for restoring your phones original CID. (CDMA versions of the M9 can't get converted to different variants without breaking them. If you're able to get mobile reception with that phone then it didn't get converted and you definetely own a Sprint M9. You don't have to look for the MID in this case.)

I can't answer that question since sim locks don't exist in the European firmware versions of this phone and I therefore don't have much experiences with them.

does the ruu rewrite/restore all of the partitions e.g. including recovery? (considering an unknown person has rooted and tinkered with the phone).

Yes, it does. RUUs overwrite everything on your phone with their files.
thank you for taking the time!

If you're able to get mobile reception with that phone then it didn't get converted and you definetely own a Sprint M9. You don't have to look for the MID in this case.)

definitely a sprint m9 then. i wonder if they're rooting/unlocking sim-locked sprints and reselling them as unlocked phones.
will have to confirm the sim lock detail with htc support either way. but it's starting to look like i may have to return the phone. disappointing but at least rooting and flashing a genuine one is gonna be a breeze now
