Check under Sound and Notifications, there is an option for Ringtone ID, I disabled this and was able to have the ringtone I wanted for all calls.

How to set custom messaging sounds?

Hello,
I've changed my default ringtone for all incoming calls with a louder old phone type ringer. I've never changed sms tones before.
Can I have specific sms tones for specific incoming sources? Eg. all friends on one tone and a special one for my office? None of the tones are loud enough for my environment and I do get a lot of texts from the office and for whatever reason they insist on texting emergency requests instead of calling me.
Thanks
Download Zedge from the market then download notification tones and after you download them and hit the set button in the app you have the option to set that tone for whatever you want.
sent from my GSM Galaxy Nexus
You can hook your phone up to your computer and put any sound you want into the "Notifications" folder. Those will then show up when you go to select them.
You can assign different apps to ring differently, and assign specific contacts a ringtone. Not sure about groups, though...

Thanks - I've installed Zedge, I then went to my phone system options, sound, default notification. If I select zedge, it says there are no tones. Is there a place to load it on my phone from my computer? I don't need any katy perry songs, just a really loud ring or buzzer. I put a custom sound in my internal storage notifications folder - I'd like to make that the default sound for only one sender of texts, everything else could have the default sound.

Thanks I tried a few different sounds but no matter what I pick when a new text comes in I only get a very quiet ding dong type sound.

So you're saying when you go into Settings > Sounds > Default notification, no matter what you set it to your incoming notification is different? Even with stock sounds?
Have you gone into Messaging > Settings > Choose ringtone, and select "Default ringtone" from the scrolling list. Does it change? It should play the sound when you touch it.

Yes- no matter what sound I choose even stock sounds - I get a double chime - kind of like ding dong. I'm using full stock Verizon GN. No rooting.
I can change the default ringtone for phone calls.
I did also reboot after changing the default and I still get the ding dong type sound which is not the sound I set for it. The sound it makes is Pollux for incoming SMS messages but I've tried to set it to several others such as even vega or proxima but it always makes the Pollux sound.
I'm going through
- settings
- Sound
- default notification
Is there some place else I should be going to to change the sms incoming text sound?

[Q] Ringtons not working

My ringtones aren't working. The only sound I get when I recieve a call is a weak "thung" sound, but no ringtone. There is no sound when I get a text.
One thing I've noticed is that when I select a ringtone it doesn't sound; like it normally does when you tap on a new ringtone. It doesn't matter if I am in my phone sounds settings, my text sound settings, or the general sound settings, the ringtones just don't play when I tap them, and they don't play after I've saved them.
I shut the phone off but after I turned it back on ringtones were still not working.

[Q] Gmate with N5110 - no incoming ringtone

Gmate works, i can use all his functionality, but incoming calls are not indicated by ringer. App is using some type of internal call to start ringer (i'm not android dev), because on normal phone respect all his settings. Any idea to solve it? I'm was tried some tasker script to enable & set ringtone, but problem is probably in disabled function "incoming call" or so..
Same question/problem here...how to set ringtone using a tablet connected to gmate.

Work around(s) for enabling top speaker for ringtones / notifications?

I as well as many other previous Nexus 6p owners have been noticing that ringtones / notifications only come out of the bottom speaker of the Pixel 2 XL. The irony of this is that any app besides the "Settings" app has all sound coming out of both speakers. Is there a program / workaround anyone knows of? I don't care if I have to root my phone; I want to use my dual front facing speakers!
Thanks,
~Mike
Too bad this apparently is not considered a bug, its just how its suposed to work. In my opinion its pretty dumb not to allow both speakers on incoming calls/notifications from Google.
I'm getting sounds out of both speakers when my phone rings. Not sure if this happened before I updated to 8.1, but I don't think so. Tested it with more than one ringtone, stock and custom. Now, my problem is the screen won't come on when the phone rings. I hope an update to the phone app fixes this soon.
Yes my also only the bottom one firing. Any solution?
Bumping this up, any solution?
Can someone please make a mod to enable dual speakers for ringtones?
Currently.. i am studying about sound mod on pixel 2 oreo 8.1.
My main objective is to fix the crackling issue.. btw.. i will look into this one too

I use a Tasker profile to get around this issue. Basically, I monitor the status of calls, and when the phone is ringing, I play my ringtone as media. Then as soon as the call is answered or ignored (offhook or idle), the exit task stops the media. I just set my actual ringtone in settings to "none". Other than that, it behaves exactly like a ringtone should. My task also matches the media volume to the ringtone volume while ringing, then restores the previous media volume setting. That way, if your phone is on vibrate, it won't still ring out loud. I can do a detailed write up on how I did it if anyone needs it.

That sounds like a great idea that I'd like to try. Can you please share that profile?
Like I said in other posts, sound does come out of both speakers with calls and notifications. When you're choosing a sound in settings, it does indeed only come out of the bottom speaker. I can't believe I'm the only one who has sounds coming out of both speakers when a call comes in. I've tested it with multiple sounds, too.

Confused with what you are saying. Are you saying that when you choose a ringtone in settings you no longer have it coming out of only the bottom speaker?

Yes. It only comes out of the bottom speaker when I'm picking the sound. When someone calls, I hear it from both speakers. I've tried this with both custom and system sounds.

I have attached my prj.xml I have literally never shared a Tasker project so I hope this is sufficient! If you have any questions, let me know!

Thanks a lot! I've only used profiles and tasks in Tasker before, but your project imported just fine. All I had to do was change your task's ringtone to mine and set my phone's ringtone to none. Now to wait for someone to call me.

Yes it does and it's great! I figured out how to test it by calling my cell phone from Google Voice/Hangouts on my PC.

ccoulterjg1 - please provide detailed instructions on how to get tasker profile to resolve the issue of the ring volume using the ring speaker configuration instead of the media speaker configuration, which should resolve the issue, as media volume is quite loud and ring volume is not (I need to be able to hear my phone ring when I am sleeping, and on-call).
