I have an issue with the proximity sensor on a LG G4 H810 (AT&T).
Out of a batch of 5 devices, all using the same Verizon branded tempered glass screen protectors (on AT&T devices), one of them refuses to work with the glass protector installed.
It's crystal clear, but when its on there and you dial a number, the screen immediately turns off (black), and you cannot force it back unless the call is ended by the other person.
Taking the glass screen protector off, immediately resolves the issue. So i know this proximity sensor must be out of whack.
Any way to re calibrate that bugger?
The glass is reflecting back. The proximity sensor should not be covered up.
To re-calibrate proximity sensor in LG G4.
This issue can be solved by re-calibration proximity sensor, you still can use screen protector with sensor covered up.
Mine is H815.
Follow steps below to re-calibrate proximity sensor(must with the glass protector is installed and which is sensor covered up)
1. TYPE "277634#*#" in phone dialer. Hidden Menu screen will show up.
2. Select "Device Test"->"MT", it will show "system will be restarted", then choose OK.
3. After reboot, GENESIS MiniOS 3.1 screen will show up, press "individual item+power" while power button is pressed.
4. Next, find "sensor test", enter it(do not block the proximity sensor), the proximity sensor will be automatically calibrated. Then block proximity sensor two times to exit.
5. Find "Back to the MainList", enter.
6. Press "Normal boot+power" while power butten is pressed to reboot system, done.
Now the problem should be solved.

This worked like a charm. I had installed a new tempered glass protector and the problem started. But after this working fine! Thanks a ton

I want to prevent the phone from turning off because of the proximity sensor completely.

Thanks, I got to hidden menu but I don't see device test. Could be disabled by tmobile.
The proximity sensor uses infrared (IR). IR doesn't go through glass. So probably no way to fix it other than getting a glass cutter and removing that section of glass.
is there a way to do this on verizon model?

The proximity sensor can be re-calibrated.
Dont forget the phone screen is also covered with glass.
I know it can be recalibrated. I've done it on mine. I was just referring to the glass screen protector. The normal screen is directly touching the proximity sensor the glass screen protector isn't. It's a problem that's been mentioned before with the glass screen protectors that don't have a cut out for the proximity sensor.

I went to do the sensor test, however after entering it I got an error message which read along the lines of 'proximity calibration fail' and it wouldn't do anything from there, and I still have the same issues. Any ideas?

@cym1124 Pease add this code to your original post.
Just thought I would add a little to this thread since it is the first one that pops up during a google search and a LG representative just gave me instructions from it word for word. Even the typo (unless theres a typo in the manual or something).
I don't know why, but that code (277634) doesn't work on my phone. I think It may be an earlier beta or something.
Its att but it had an early software on it, 810 09e.
Here is the one that works. *#546368#*810# , I would assume that you could replace the 810 with whatever your model number is.
The code I found actually had 815 at the end.
I found this code at the bottom of the comments on a youtube video. So thanks to whoever that person is.
The second problem I had was I could not get into MT mode. Whenever it prompted me to restart, I chose ok and it did nothing.
Im not sure why it would work, but I just tried it about 5 times in a row finally (after 2 weeks of trying other soloutions) and it finally booted into genesis.
After that the normal instructions worked.
Side note. Apparently the software for 810 09e might not have its qfuse blown. meaning it could've been the only ATT phone g4 with an unlockable bootloader. But I thought that an update would fix my proximity issue. WORNG. well now we'll never know.
Anyways hope this helps someone out there. Even you LG tech reps.

Apparently for Taiwanese model.

When I put Tempered glass to my G4 , move sensor is covered . Now when somebody call me and I Answer, my screen is black and I dont do anything until this person who called disconnect call. This is very big problem because when I Call to somebody and this person dont responisble i must restart phone through remove battery. In My opinion the best option is the off move sensor but i cant find how do this.. Please help me i dont know what to do :crying:

Can you please help me how to do it? So that I can use a tempered glass without having any issues with any sensors. Also I would like to inform you that my screen was going black while on call. Once I removed the tempered glass, this issue has been resolved as well.

Can you please tell me what could be causing the problem with the lockscreen issue that was posted before. Because once I removed the tempered glass, the lock screen issue and the screen going black while on call, both has been solved. Was it only that the proximity sensor was not working properly or was there any other sensors which was getting affected due to the tempered glass.
after applying tempered glass do the recalibrate as mentioned above.
So, here is a situation: When the phone is locked and i try to unlock it, sometimes, the screen stay off even if it's working. To unlock the device i have to wait or i have to remove the battery.
The same thing occur when sensor prossimity it's on during the calling, and the screen come back to work when the call it's finished.
How can i resolve this problem?

There's a lot of Moto G4 that have the Ghost Touch problem when it's using outdoor (even worse under the sunlight). I noticed that the fast brightness dimming of the screen causes the problem so i created a macro to avoid that.
Basically the macro works in this way:
When you turn on your screen the auto brightness will be disabled and adjusted to 35%, then wait 10 seconds... and finally the auto brightness will be enabled again avoiding the ghost touch almost in a 99% of cases when using the phone in outdoors
TUTORIAL:
First install MacroDroid from PlayStore (i'm a new user so i cant post a link, search it in PlayStore as a "M" icon) and open it.
Touch the Macros (0) button then the + button in the right lower corner. An Add Macro dialog will be show, touch in USE EMPTY MACRO
In "Edit Macro" screen you will see 3 sections:
Triggers (red)
Actions (blue)
Constraints (green)
We will use only Triggers and Actions.
Press the + button in triggers, go to Device Events and then Screen On/Off. Select Screen On option and press OK. You will be back to "Edit Macro" screen.
Press the + button in Actions, go to Screen and select Brightness. You will see a "Requires Write Settings" dialog, press OK and allow to MacroDroid to modify system settings. Press back button. Select again Brightness and adjust the slider to 35%. and press OK. You will be back to "Edit Macro" screen.

That's related to the charger. I got ghost touched when I'm using Chinese or bad quality chargers. With the original Turbo power I don't have this problem.

this ghost touch thing is what made me hate motorola. This G4 that I have is my first and last moto/lenovo phone I'll ever buy. Regreted so many times haha. It's been 2 long years without using the screen with full brightness, otherwide the phone will completely freeze. And I really think they should have made a recall for all the damaged devices, but unfortunately that didn't happen.
Now with this tutorial I think I can finally use it comfortably haha. It's working until now. Thank you.

From what I could gather by reading online, Motorola has used two display panels. One by LG and the other by BOE.
The LG panel is plagued with screen burn in while the BOE panel has ghost touch issues.
Basically, all of their devices are damaged. They decided to fix something (screen burn in) and borked something else (touch). :laugh:

best option is disable the auto brightness and set it to around 35-40% no ghost touches directly reduce by 95% which is quiet good.
and for rest 5% when occursjust lock unlock its done.
I am using this technique since last couple of years and also played PUBg using this technique.
Also lets see what oreo has on plate for G4+

Install DevCheck System Info. app from play store, search for hardware section and scroll down to find panel. It will show which screen you have.
I use protective glass on the screen. The bottom of the screen is very sensitive, and mostly when I press a button on the bottom row of the keyboard, that character is repeated two or three times. Or if there is a button in that area, such as the Mute/Unmute button on the telegram pages, when I select the button, it's been selected and then return to the previous state, as if I pressed the button 2 times. I don't know if anyone has this problem? And whether this problem has something to do with the protective glass or not?

Sounds like it's a issue with the protective glass, I also have a screen protector applied with LOCA glue & haven't experienced this issue

Adjusted the bottom of the keyboard a little higher so it wont happen that's what fixed mine

So should we conclude that as a hardware problem? Is it not possible to fix it by providing a software patch from Samsung?
I finally found the cause of the problem.
Settings > Accessibility > Hearing enhancements > Amplify ambient sound
When this option is turned on, the bottom of the screen mistakenly counts each touch twice.
