Hi there,
I hope that I'm posting on the right place and sorry for my bad english.
I've searched everywhere on the web for infos about the sprint lg g2 ls980 lte limitations, and there are quite a lot of suggestions that the limitation is hardware level.
Today I found a guy that sells ls980 on ebay and he guaranties that the llimitation is sofware based and that the ls980 that he sells is open to 5 lte bands. He told me that you just need to instruct the modem to communicate on those frequencies.
Is this possible, a scam, something new.??...
Please do comment about this subject, all comments are wellcome.
I can't post the link for the ls980 on sale, but the sale title on ebay is :
LG G2 32GB Unlocked Worldwide & Rooted Smartphone Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean
The seller is : droid_toy
For info, I have an ls980, allready flashed the same rom the guy uses but no 4g on band 7 with my sim card, and he states that the band 7 works on hes ls980.
Thank you,
I'm sure its possible maybee even more but good luck on the radio thats carrier based

Ive heard/seen such things, but not all devices can do that do take it with a grain of salt.
Article has link to FCC site and bands tested:

I don't really know how the guy has done it...
Allready tryed, with an d801 from tmob, to flash it with an d802 rom, then flash an d801 kernel and no other ltes other then the original ones. The weird thing is that if then I try to flash just the radio over all this it will brick, what I find weird since the rom is allready a d802 rom and it is just the boot that is from a d801. (Flashing boot and radio changes commun things?)
Anyway, back to subject, if this method fails then on ls980 it also fails...
How it is possible to have other radios on ls980 and he acctually accepts then well?
Also the d801 when unlocked by code doesn't unlock other lte bands, so for ls980 it is not that either... I haven't tryed yeat, but I belive that with an d802 base rom on ls980 we gain access to same dial codes then d802, so it turns out to be possible to unlock the phone by code. Am I correct?
How can it possibly be done, can you point me some directions on how to try to unlock the lte bands?
Hi there,
No suggestions, no ideas, anyone?
Is it possible that the lte band permission are guiven by the kernel?
it is not a pentaband phone and it is a hardware limitation so buyer beware and don't get ripped off

Hi there,
Sorry to bother you again, but, are you 100% sure?
According to this site http://pdadb.net/ both ls980 and d802 models share the exact same processor, and this processor has the modem integrated, so, booth models should have the same capabilities.
What am I missing? Is there any other chip associated with the modem and responsable for the bands comunication?
Thanks in advance,

its not the chipset that is the problem it is the actual physical antennas you can have the same chipset in all models but the actual antennas are different making it not possible to pick up the other signals. Thats what makes it a hardware issue
Also I can not find the seller on ebay

For info, I'll continue to report my experiences.
As I think I've understood on the web, the 4g antenna is a part of the flex,/micro/charger piece.
As I have a few spare parts, I tryed to use a d802 motherboard with a flex cable I had from an ls980, to try and see if I would loose my band 7 4g on the d802.
Didn't worked at all, the d802 couldn't detect a sim card with that combination, whitch I find a bit weird as result since the sim is connected to the noard...
Next step, I'm waiting for some parts to try a combo ls980 board flashed with a rayglobe firmware + d802 flex cable (4g antenna).
I don't have much hope but, hey, we never know...
News?

Hello,
I been looking for the perfect LG G3 Dual Sim model in terms of Specs..
and since i found more than one model.. D856 , D857, D858 and D859
can anyone help me figure out what is are the differences among them ?
thank u
Hi
I've just ordered the D856 which for me (being based in the UK) is the better option considering that includes the LTE 800 band. I know the D858 does not include this band but I'm not entirely sure about the other two variants.

Hi c1181427,
I'm interested in getting a dual sim LG G3, also based in the UK. I'm currently on Vodafone so the D856 would be the ideal version. Can I ask where you ordered your D856 from?
Thanks in advance,

D858HK would work fine on Vodafone as well as it has band 2600 which is LTE+ used by Vodafone UK
Hi.I got mine from a website called from.ae they are based in UAE and the phone was delivered in five days.
Tbh I still haven't worked out the difference between the d856 and d858
One thing I noticed is that on mine there's barely any LG app installed (I think 2) which is surprising coming from a Samsung s4...Not sure if this is standard on LG phones or it's just this version

Hi c1181427,
Thanks for the info, I'll look into it now. Did you have to pay any customs on the phone?
Samsul,
Thanks but I live in Aberdeen, and work just outside the city. The 800mhz frequency already has poor coverage and so I don't even want to think about how little I will see 4G speeds if I am restricted to only the 2600mhz frequency. I'm not actually sure the 2600mhz frequency is in operation here anyway.

hi guys, my D856 has no LG apps pre-installed and it came with Google Play already installed. is this the case with the other dual sim variants too?
how much free RAM do you get on your G3's?

Hi guys, I bought a 858HK and it does not have the 800Mhz for 4G in UK
I also got slapped on import duty by £80
so the phone cost me £460
I am willing to sell if anyone wants it
Its a beautiful phone, very fast, the DUAL SIM is essential for work and personal and it comes with some LG apps that are much better than all my previous HTC phones
I've also had to pay £80 import duty but luckily the phone cost me a bit less
I was also hoping to get LTE 800 with my D856 (as advertized in the official LG spec sheet) but nothing...luckily LTE still works with my 3 UK SIM

Not sure if that's the case...
Got one 858HK yesterday, and so far it doesn't want to do 4G on my Vodafone UK SIM even though it does 2600MHz.
Spoken to Vodafone support and the lady who did not have much clue about the subject, could not confirm if vodafone uses both 800 and 2600, she was saying that in the UK it is only 800Mhz for LTE which is a bit odd and doesn't tie up with information provided here:
Code:
http://www.4g.co.uk/4g-frequencies-uk-need-know/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vodafone_UK
On the wikipedia it says "LTE Advance" any body has an idea what that is?
The other thing is that the phone could be faulty as well. Need to try the EE SIM somewhere as that should be on 1800 and 2600Mhz.......
Edit: Apparently Voda UK does 2.6GHz in big agglomerations such as London, Birmingham, Manchester.... (this is not officially confirmed)
Hi Guys,
I am willing to buy a mid-range smartphone. I have some options like Moto G, Honor 5X, One Plus X etc. But, I want to go with the LG G3 to try my luck., as It'll be upgraded to Marshmallow. I am not sure if I am doing the right thing or not. I need your experienced advice on that.
But, I also can see there are several models of LG G3 here in US:
LG G3 D855 - International Version
LG G3 D851 - T-mobile, US
LG G3 D850 - AT&T, US
LG G3 LS990 - Sprint, US
LG G3 VS985 - Verizon, US
I would like to use it both inside and outside of US. So, if I buy the International version, will I get the 4G LTE support in US? Can I root it and install Custom ROMS in it? Because, I googled it, and I saw, Only, T-mobile version comes with Unlocked Boot-loader. Is it true?
Please, let me know, And, it would be great, if you suggest me some better place to buy this phone online. Thanks in advance.

Check gsm lte bands are listed there for each model. Although the international model has the most custom rom support and has an fm radio. And nop there are no bootloader issues with the g3.

Thanks I think I'll go with the International version.
beware of fake D855s and you will not get LTE coverage, at least with AT&T. For these reasons I went with the 851. Good luck
No LTE on the d855 in the USA. Although it really is the best version to go with, be aware of that. In the USA at least, you'll mostly run on HDSAP+ which really is fast enough for a mobile in my opinion. (Usually from 7 to 21 Mb/s)
Dear Sir,
I am going to Purchase LG G3 D850 US Version , Please Guide me Whether It works on 4G LTE and other networks in India or Middle east, Because i am an Indian while i am residing in Qatar.
Please help me i could purchase the Specified Model.
Awaiting your valued Reply....
Well, the D850 is a manufacturer _locked_ device that will work on that AT&T network only, in USA, unless you unlock it. Moreover, by design, the device supports out of factory only the radio bands that are necessary to operate on the AT&T network. Even if you manage to unlock the device to operate on non-ATT network, you still will run into issues with some bands missing. So personally, I wouldn't bother with the buying the D850 to use outside of USA or ATT network.. unless you have some solid proof that the D850 can be easily adapted to some other environment. I don't know abour Qatar, but I heard that the new Oneplus X smartphone is fairly optimal for using in India, and perhaps other countries. It has the same hardware specs as the G3.
Hi all,
I am going on a long trip to the UK and Middle East, and want to take my LG G4 with me and use foreign service providers. I am planning on flashing the H815T (Similar to H815 International Version but supports more bands) KDZ file onto my existing LG H812 (Bell Canada) hardware, so I can have support for those frequency bands in the UK and Middle East.
According to my understanding, the H815T rom is compatible with the H812 hardware, as both the Bell Canada and International Versions have the same underlying hardware, but I would gladly appreciate if someone can confirm this. I have attached the phone details below.
Thanks and all the best!
The risk is not worth it ...

The risk is not worth it ... It is a lot cheaper to carrier unlock your phone so that you can put any foreign service provider's SIM card in rather than having to buy a new phone when you (hard?) brick it, i.e. ~ $20.00 vs $700.00 (or ~$150.00 on ebay for a used one).
But if you insist ... carry on.

I have done so previously with Samsung Galaxy S4 (all had different model numbers), I used to flash different carriers firmware regularly, as I travel quite often. Just wondering whether the same is true for LG.
Thanks!
Unfortunately ...

Unfortunately ... because you cannot unlock the H812's bootloader (at this point in time, any way), you cannot safely flash different firmware in the same way you did with your Samsung. Unlocking your carrier so you can replace your SIM card with foreign providers and if you wish, installing steadfasterX's TWRP-in-FisH to have a custom recovery is about it for now. If and when steadfasterX completes his efidroid port to LG G4 locked devices (he's working on it now for unlocked devices), then you may be able to install different firmwares.
All of us H812 owners as well as many others are in the same boat.
Safe travels,
S.

I read so much of bands because of Xiaomi phones. I don't think it would work. You need hardware for bands

For Xiaomi yes: they unlocked the bands, still couldn't get running. I can't tell for LG, maybe every LG uses same antenna or they using different antennas. Check out, if your phone requires special antenna, then you now for sure. Just check that out, before you spend your time on this.

So if they are hardware based, then howcome when you unlock the phone, it suddenly supports all the bands? Also by antenna, do you mean the GSM transmitter and receiver?
