Tablet rebooting in recovery mode..no OS found - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi guys...I accidently dropped my tablet in water...after drying it for 3-4 days..i tried to start it up..but it is rebooting directly to TWRP recovery mode...even I tried rebooting from there but it never reboots ...it just powers down...i tried to completely wipe and flash OS..but it is not working..do you think there is some hardware related issue or any other? Please help me.

Boot into bootloader, flash factory image using fastboot. You can find everything here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

Thanks nhizzat i will try it.

How did that go? I have the same problem - dropped the Nexus 7 in the pool, but immediately took it out, opened the case, dried it and left it in rice (forgot to disconnect the battery though); but after reconnecting it can only get to the recovery menu as you say. I tried changing battery with another N7 and that didn't help.

Water damage / bad memory?

A few months ago I was jogging along the beach in FL and had my phone in my pocket. It didn't get particularly wet, my shorts were only a little damp when I finished running. Phone was fine, but the battery was low.
I got back to the truck and plugged it in and it wouldn't charge. This wasn't anything new, usually a power cycle would get it going so I unplugged it and rebooted it.
I was running a CM9 nightly with franco kernel at the time. Well, the phone never came back up. It made it to the cyanogenmod boot screen and just keep displaying the animation for as long as I would let it sit (almost 2hours in total because we went to dinner and I left it be). I figured I water damaged it or something. Since it is unlocked I'm fairly sure I wouldn't have a chance at verizon to get it swapped under warranty. (the water damage sensors were not tripped anywhere I could see). So I started to get to work on it. I could get into clockwork recovery so I attempted a nandroid backup and that failed when it got to the data partition. groovy.
I could NOT mount the "sdcard" in recovery.. I figured my best shot was to wipe the phone and try it all from scratch. luckily I found an HD revolutions rom from when I first got the thing in my downloads folder. I wiped the phone and installed that. It booted!
Tried CM9 again, no dice. WTF? Went back to HD Revolutions, then back to CM9 again and let it sit for a really long time to boot and it came up. I'm on CM9RC1 right now with franco kernel again. I brain farted the other day and tried to install CM10. It didn't work, I couldn't do a nandroid backup and when it wouldn't reboot again I feared the worst. I had to commute home so I left it to boot while driving and suddenly bluetooth kicked in so it had booted. Something is clearly wrong with it as the rom install process never used to take that long to boot and the phone shouldn't freeze when trying to mound data or sdcard when in recovery.
ninja-edit / addition: In no way can I get the thing to be recoginzied by a USB port lately. It'll charge but I can't copy files. I've tried several computers (macs and PCs) and I can't see it in adb devices on either too.
So, on to my question here. What can I do to see what is wrong with the phone? Or, is there something I can demonstrate to verizon to get it swapped under warranty? I'm still not sure water was the cause here. Or, fix whatever the issue is that is causing it to hang when I try to mount data or sdcard in recovery..
Or, is there a way to relock the phone with a custom recovery / CM on the thing? I don't think there is just throwing that question out there.
Should be what you need. Just a matter of flashing everything back to stock and relocking the bootloader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895

oh that's awesome.. except I can't get it to connect to a PC via USB. All I can do is charge it.
now my question is.. if I can get it stock, how do I get it swapped if it doesn't do anything stupid after flashing it back to stock?? there is for sure something wrong with it. :-/
It shouldn't hang when mounting data or sdcard in clockworkmod recovery.

[Q] LG Optimus G Stuck On LG Screen Need Help.

I was making a TWRP Backup when all of the sudden my phone just randomly turns off. I grabed my phone and it was really hot. Tried turning it on, but nothing happened. Then I connected it to the ac adapter and it turned on, but it would go to the LG logo, the screen turns black then it restarts. This does not stop unless I unplug it. I had previously made two backups before and nothing like this happened, but this time I enabled conpression<-------- This must have been what caused this. All I want to know is if this can be fixed or not. If it could be fixed I would be so happy if somone could tell me how to fix this. THANK YOU. P.S. THIS PHONE IS A BEAST. D

Likely bricked. Do you have flashing notification and capacitive lights? Have you LGNPST'd? If yes to both of those questions, you're in the same predicament as I was and hopefully you have insurance, because your phone is fried.

Sprint's policy on root is to document it but not do anything about it, so they would swap it. If you're worried, I can help you restore stock firmware.

Because your phone doesn't know if it needs to be in charging mode or booting. Pulling battery will fix it.

I had a similar problem as you. Upon getting the phone I rooted and used the FreeGee app from the Google Play store to unlock the bootloader. Everything seemed fine and dandy, until one day when I let my phone's battery drain completely. Pluggin it in to a wall charger resulted in the failed boot where the LG logo flashes before going to a blank, but backlit screen. Luckily, the first few times this happened, through a combination of quickly plugging and unplugging the usb cord and holding the volume up+power button, I could get it into recovery (TWRP). Then a simple cache & dalvik cache wipe, and the phone would boot up as if nothing ever happened. Very strange.
Well yesterday this happened again, however, this time there was no getting the phone into recovery. My previous methods of button mashing and plugging and unplugging weren't working. So, I decided to bite the bullet and use LGNPST to get back to ZV7. Now, like you mentioned, this failed boot would automatically happen, without pressing the power button to turn it on. So it was difficult to get the phone to stay off. I found that with the phone unplugged, if you continue to press the power button until the blank backlit screen turns off, AND continue to hold the power button for an additional five seconds, the phone would stay off and not auto power on into the failed boot.
Once I was able to get the phone to stay off, I pressed the middle of the volume key to depress both volume up and down, and then plugged a usb cord that was attached to my computer. This powered on the phone into download mode. Following the LGNPST guide I was able to get to around 67% complete before my phone turned off and an error message flashed on the computer screen telling me to power cycle the phone and reconnect. Well, the whole 67%/85% LGNPST failure is apparently common and not indicative of an actual failure; HOWEVER, my phone became completely unresponsive. It wouldn't power on at all. It didn't matter if the usb was unplugged or connected to the computer or wall charger. So, I was forced to unplug the battery. I followed this tutorial and successfully disconnected and reconnected the battery cord, and the phone shot back to life. It even booted up into the factory stock ZV7 rom. I guess that LGNPST was successful. It looked like I was on my way to returning my phone to breezy's deodexed ZV9 stock rom that I was previously running.
I went ahead and re-rooted, ran the FreeGee app again, and rebooted into recovery. Then I made a backup and attempted to flash my new rom. Now, I think this is where I royally screwed up. I was pleasantly surprised to see my screen layout and all of my settings still intact after LGNPST back to ZV7 and thought I could just wipe the caches and ignore the factory reset and system wipe before flashing. Perhaps it was this, but part of me also thinks there might be something wrong with my battery draining extremely fast in recovery.
I proceeded to flash and all seemed good, but rebooting resulted in the LG logo failed boot that we have already discussed. So, I went ahead and repeated the LGNPST-re-root process numerous times (switching to the freegee 0.5 batch file instead of the app). Everytime after the first initial restore, I could never get my phone to enter recovery. As soon as I rebooted after using freegee, the phone would be soft bricked again. Sometimes I would get the LG logo thing, other times I would get the dreaded alternating flashing red notification light and soft keys. A battery pull was usually required in these circumstances before I could get back into download mode to start all over.
I was about ready to give up when I took to the LGOG irc channel. That's when Xboxfanj stepped in and helped me out IMMENSELY. Over the course of several hours, he walked me through flashing some partitions in ADB. At times it seemed like there was no hope and that I should have just returned the phone, but he failed to acquiesce, we pushed forth trying a couple of other bootloader options. The new bootloader appeared to have fixed the phones erratic behavior with powering on and off, but I had no rom to boot into and no recovery. Xboxfanj recommended using fastboot to flash over a recovery. Once in the new bootloader screen my Windows XP machine detected new hardware and wanted some drivers. I attempted to use the [ADB/FB/APX Driver] Universal Naked Driver 0.72, but XP indicated that I was missing 'winusbcoinstaller2.dll'.
I grabbed winusbcoinstaller2.dll from here and all was good. Fastboot recognized the phone, I was able to flash recovery and subsequently boot into recovery. From there I reformatted the system, wiped data/factory restore, wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache, and flashed breezy's ZV9 deodexed rom.
Fortunately, after around 7 hours, I am happy to say my phone is back to being rooted, unlocked, and running ZV9. It powers on and off properly and can get into recovery without a hitch. I'm still curious what will happen if I let my battery drain completely. Perhaps I'll try it some time this week. I'll be sure to post back here if/when I do that. All in all, it was a harrowing, but educational experience.
Anyway, just wanted to give a big THANK YOU to Xboxfanj! You really are the man :good:. Thanks for your patience and determination.

[Q] Unresponsive Screen + Bootloop

I brought my phone in to have the charger port replaced. It worked fine ad then all of a sudden the phone boots up, stays booted for a minute and then reboots. also the screen is unresponsive.
I have used a gnex kit to get into CWM and erase cache and dalvik cache and fix permission and the problem is not resolved.
with out the gnex kit i can't even get into CWM and all i get is a little droid guy with an open stomach hatch with a red mark.
i would erase all data and factory reset as a last option but i have some work photos on the device that are extremely important for me to extract. I should also mention that with the CWM kit I am unable to find the files I wish to pull yet for the few seconds I am able to boot into android my photos are there in the album.
can someone please help me find a way to extract those files so I can try to wipe the device and move on?

Alright,
alright, we have 50% success!
I was able to get all the files off that I was looking to get, albeit during 20 second intervals in which the phone would allow me to before rebooting....
which brings me to my next point - Phone is stuck in bootloop after following (successfully) this guide to flash stock and unroot which, needless to say, seems strange to me.
Now I supposedly have a fully formatted i9250 maguro with a fresh flash of stock running and i'm stuck in a boot loop which if i leave sitting long enough will eventually get to the "Welcome" [choose your language] screen with an unresponsive display panel until it reboots after about 30 seconds.
please help.
EDIT: I flashed the Factory Image Android 4.2.2 (JDQ39) and still stuck in bootloop with unresponsive screen. maybe this is better as a paperweight??

Strange Fix reveals deeper issue
good news and bad news
Alright, so I have swapped the motherboard with an old gnex i had laying around that has a broken screen that wouldn't turn on at all..
I found out that the motherboard on the old phone must be dead because it won't work in the newer phone so I put the guts of the newer on into the broken screen phone and it worked perfectly - albeit with a huge crack in it. so i then thought maybe the issue was solved and put the guts that worked back into the original phone and it is unresponsive and reboots... I've come to the conclusion that the screen is the issue on that device.
but is this fixable??? i have taken the whole thing apart and can't see how that screen could be shorting the device and cause it to reboot nor can i understand why it wouldn't be responsive to the touch for no reason.
anybody have a clue how i can fix that?

[Q] Can't start my Galaxy Nexus

Hi evereybody.
I have a GSM galaxy nexus with 4.2.2. Since approximately a month ago the phone started to reboot itself randomly. Sometimes when I was surfing the web, other times when the phone was on standby at night. Well, since the reboots were becoming more frequent I decided to do a factory reset, because I assumed that it was a corrupt application file or something like that. One week into the factory reset it started restarting again by itself, maybe 2 times a day. I searched the web, couldn't find anything useful so I told myself that the 4.3 update should solve the problem (naive me).
Today the update popped and I intermediately installed it. What is my surprise, that in the middle of installation I get the droid icon down on his back and an ERROR message. Rebooted the phone pulling out the battery and now the phone won't pass the multicolored X screen.
I have no unlocked bootloader, and the phone isn't rooted. So I tried to do a factory reset with the default recovery mode the galaxy nexus has. I wiped the phone but I get stuck on the same screen. The funny thing is that every time I try to wipe the caché partition the phone reboots itself immediately.
I don't know what to do. I'm not an advance user, I installed the GNEX TOOLKIT and tried to flash the factory image, but seems like I don't have the USB DEBUGGING option enabled and can't complete the process.
Do I need to send my phone back? (i'm still in warranty) Or is there a way to be able to start my Gnex again?
Thanks in advance.

Did you already try waiting until it cools down and restarting? I would try that, or also try reflashing after cool down. First boot after flash is very long, and phone does get hot. If you were already overworking it with bootloops and stuff, and then tried to flash a rom, it might be a bit much...

Thanks levone for your answer, and sorry if it's passed a lot of time.
Unfortunately i tried everything coud be possible. tomorrow I'll try with an expert friend to open it and see the problem. A technician said to me that probably it's a cooling problem. Processor can't be cooled and phone shut off, or probably is (again) a battery problem. Soon i'll write if i've found a solution, also to try to help someone who could have a similar problem (i hope not).
How can the "processor" not be cooled? There is no cooling hardware that could stop working.. It could still be another hardware defect, yeah.. Have you wiped it or did you just flash system/baseband/kernel/etc ?

It takes ~1 min and it is cooled enough where is it fast and smooth again. Never has it said too hot, shutting off or something similar. Then again i'm using KitKat which doesn't maybe have that function?
I'd say issue related to battery or software as i had same problem after installing Lucky Patcher. Got bootloop after restarting.
I also used restoring and it succeeded but somehow Lucky Pather was still present but bootloop problem was cured.
