Hi. After I have rooted my phone, there is a problem with update from HTC. I receive the update (1.40.401.8) over air and download it, but it stops at team win recovery project (2.8.6.0) after reboot. Anyone with same problem ?
Please help...

Dude....you should really read....
The general thread is full with topics about how to take a ota update when you are rooted.
When you change your system like when rooting and with that a custom recovery you can't just take a ota update!
Guessing you didn't make a system backup before you rooted either? You need this if you want to take a ota.
Now the only way is to restore a ruu or use someone else their system backup.
All of this is mention in the treads where you learn how to root....
Before you try to restore a unmodified system image or ruu .....READ!
You need to use your correct image and ruu. Not any ruu or image will do.!!!

Hi
Not sure if I understand what you mean, but my phone works just fine. I just have to reboot after "no go" with teamwin.
What you are saying, is that it is not possible to install updates om my phone ?

If you want to take ota updates then you need to run a RUU for your device to put it back to stock then OTA updates will work.
You can not flash/install a OTA update with a custom recovery (TWRP)
Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
You have to be 100% stock to take an OTA. It's a security feature to prevent bricks. Even having /system mounted r/w will cause an OTA to fail.
Taking OTAs when rooted is generally a bad idea anyway. I have seen people brick their phones in the past doing it, though they are so locked down now that I doubt it's possible on this phone.
Let me see if I understand...
-U bought a m9
-unlocked your boot loader.
-installed TWRP
-rooted your m9
-u got a message to install the update 1.40
-now u are stuck at TWRP?
If this is the case, you can't install the update correctly because your device is not stock.
By stock I mean:
- non rooted
- stock recovery
- stock unmodified system.
Without being stock your update will fail.
If I didn't understand correctly, please explain.

Try using htc_fastboot. Sometimes the sdk fastboot can't handle RUUs because they're too big.

Edit: you need to change the command to htc_fastboot flash zip

Op is asking if ota still work with that rom.
yes it is a questiopn, cause my is my system based on non signet RUU firmware. i donmt have a clean RUU and dont get OTA updates. it works very bad and slow + i dont understand really how i can install TWRP on the m9. i found a few options but i need a RUU/OTA to create a bootable 0PJAIMG.zip right ? found something like that in here XDA
"You can make your own zip version. You just need an android-info.txt file from an RUU (or firmware.zip from OTA). Zip it up with the TWRP image (renamed to recovery.img) and place on the root of your FAT32-formatted SD card in download mode."
so all what i m looking for is a fresh clean install, recieve OTA updates and a little stability, thats why i ask. do u know why i dont get OTA updates ? maybe i did a mistake...
thx

is it possible to flash it without TWRP on the phone ? maybe with ADB or something. think get the stock OTA files is not really important for him too..

if you install TWRP and root your phone at all you will not get OTA updates
if you want OTA you cannot install custom recovery and root.
The only way to get OTA is by having untouched system partition and Stock recovery
The links below in my Signature contain all the files and links you need to...
1.convert and update your phone to DevEd Android 6
2.Install TWRP and SuperSU 2.64
3.and the files needed to return to stock later if another OTA is released
Thanks for this! =D just what i needed!!!

its just AT&T or all can flash it?
hi
i am asking for your help guys as always
i have htc one m9 original stock rom, , s-on, rooted , CUSTOM TWRP RECOVERY. UNLOCKED BOOT LOADER
and my phone info is as this :
kernel: lk
(bootloader) product: htc_himauhl
(bootloader) version: 1.0
(bootloader) imei: 3572260xxxxxxxx
(bootloader) version-main: 2.10.401.1

(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.0.0.0000
(bootloader) mid: 0PJA10000
(bootloader) cid: HTC__J15
My problem is: i can't update my m9 to the latest OTA marshmallow
recently, i received an OTA update marshmallow 6 ( part 1/2 )
version of OTA received is 2.10.401.108
to flash a stock recovery, i extracted the OTA zip file, and extracted its content firmware.zip to get the stock recovery, i fount 2 recoveies, 1) recovery.img 2 ) recovery_signed.img.
is this the right way to have the correct stock recovery ?
anyway, i flashed these 2 recoveries in order to update the new OTA, but no one succeeded, and i got this message on download mode ( attached pic )
is the problem because of incorrect stock recovery ?
how do i get a proper one ?
i tried also this
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZaiJ3F_f76sVa4daU5H62OYi5Bj23LEBBv4xDTQ8y-M/pubhtml
but didn't know which one to take exactly.
also, i tried to give it another shot, i renamed the OTA fzip file to 0PJAIMG.ZIP
and copied this file on both ext_sd & internal sd
but no luck.
please help
The problem is that your system partition is modified because you add su and related files for rooting. You must have an untouched system partition and restored in read only mode to prevent any modifications.
So you need to flash twrp again, restore an original untouched system partition, flash stock recovery and apply OTA.
Yea what he said.. System must be as stock and completely untouched. All evidence of root must be undone to get OTA.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
i see
so i have to unroot first ?
how do i restore an original untouched system partition, if i didn't backup my system !!
hello
Check flippys Google sheet in his thread.
A donated clean image may be there for your SKU and device version...
If not....you may need to RUU back to complete stock and take the OTA that way...g
+1, The only way if you haven't a clean system image ( take a time to read the post2 of Twrp thread) is to flash a Ruu.
It's a "new" Google limitation...
To flash the stock recovery you just need to get the stock recovery for 2.10.401.1 , flash like any other recovery, so with the command fastboot flash recovery *name of recovery*.img in download mode. It should work fine, but do that after you got complete stock system back up which is untouched. Just wipe system and restore the untouched, flash in download mode the stock recovery and you should be good to go

at first be on complete stock rom, i mean stock recovery and system img is restored to stock one from twrp with backup.
then you need to use the exact naming of the zip...like i said everything else have to be on stock settings... no custom recovery, no custom kernel yea everything else stock
I find myself in the same situation and followed all the steps described here...
The results are either Status 7 or Remote 14 or Remote 9
I had a original backup of the system img, restored via twrp, then flashed a signed stock recovery (S-ON), ensured i'm not rooted or modified. The result is always the same...
Maybe i am doing something wrong ?
LE: Managed to get a non corrupted archive (that was causing remote 14 or 9), now i get remote 99 all the time, no matter what i try
Hey everyone,
Its been a long time since I updated my phone.
Here's my configuration:
HTC One M8
Android Version: 4.4.4
HTC Sense version: 6.0
Unlocked, M8_UL, S-On
HBOOT: 3.16.0.0000
Radio: 1.15.2133156.UA13G
(bootloader) product: m8_ul
(bootloader) platform: hTCBmsm8974
(bootloader) modelid: 0P6B10000
(bootloader) cidnum: HTC__001
(bootloader) security: on
(bootloader) build-mode: SHIP
(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
Now I tried to turn to convert to S-OFF using Sunshine but it comes up with this: Debug Kernel/Ramdisk - Your device has a debuggable ramdisk. You need to flash a non-debuggable boot.img
I want to go back to the hassle free official Android version provided by HTC. I have tried to look for a up to date guide, however the download links are dead.
Can someone point me in the right step? It'll be much appreciated.
Thank you
why do you need to s-off the device ??
AFAIK it will work on stock roms only ( rooted is fine )
you have an outdated version of android
to be completely stock and have the latest android version available for this device officially
do what this post said (( all of it ))

did you relocked the bootloader ??
if yes try another method to flash and check the md5 for the RUU.zip
this is the easiest method to flash a signed RUU.zip https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67307303&postcount=1748

The bootloader is currently unlocked (it says ** UNLOCKED ** in purple).
I just tried to open the ZIP file, in Windows, and it says cannot be opened, so I do think it was corrupt somehow. I am going to download it again and see if it does it again.
If it doesn't work again, I will try your other method.
Thank you buddy.

no you can't open the .zip it's signed with htc keys and you can't open it by normal apps
now relock the bootloader as the guide said in the linked post above
it should be relocked to flash a signed RUU.zip on s-on device
no need to download again

WORKS
Hi,
I had tried rooting my At&T HTC One M9 using the NOOB friendly guide written by KingInTheNorth. After completing, my phone wouldn't boot up. It got into a bootloop. I then found a guide (from another website) on how to reload the stock RUU. I followed the direction but it looks as if the file was bad. The following is copied from the command prompt.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot flash zip C:/Use
Downloads/M9fullstock.zip
target reported max download size of 800000000 bytes
sending 'zip' (79642 KB)...
OKAY [ 5.185s]
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) HOSD CL#682052
(bootloader) GPT is up-to-dated. [17408]
(bootloader) Perform pre-update
(bootloader) ERR ZIP signature checking failed...
(bootloader) ERR [SD_UPDATE_ERR] Not allow flash image except boot/recov
(bootloader) ery/system
(bootloader) ERR [SD_UPDATE_ERR] sddownload failed: 14
(bootloader) ERR Update zip file failed.
(bootloader) Update zip file OK
(bootloader) ERR ZIP ERROR CODE, 14

Now my phone is stuck on the screen that shows a phone with a green arrow in a green circle pointing down. I've tried rebooting but it doesn't respond to any button presses. Did I ruin my phone? Can anyone help?
Try to type fastboot reboot in your command prompt. It should reboot your phone. If you're lucky it will reboot your phone normally and it's fully functional. If not, your phone will boot into bootloader which will mean your rom is wiped.
That's not a RUU that you were trying to flash and the guide written by KingInTheNorth is outdated since different firmware versions of the M9 can only get rooted with different versions of SuperSU. Check the ReadMe thread for the guides and files you may need.
@Suurbier91: Never recommend people to reboot if a flash failed unless they know exactly what's going on. There are some flashing errors that can only get fixed if the phone gets flashed immediately, again. A reboot makes those bricks permanent and unrecoverable.
Thanks for the direct to the Read Me. I've found a lot of good information there. After my battery died, I charged the phone and it's coming back on. It still has a boot loop that lasts for between five to ten minutes before booting up. I am going to try following one of the threads I found on here to get back to stock. Hopefully that will take care of the boot loop issue. I was wanted to root it so I could upgrade to Nougat. The phone was originally AT&T but I paid to unlock it and I'm now on Cricket but I don't receive any OTA updates.
That's probably so because the phone is only sim unlocked but still using the AT&T firmware. Don't ask me why they're allowed to do so (it wouldn't be possible in the EU) but AT&T won't let you download OTAs if there isn't an AT&T sim card inserted into your phone.
If you don't need the AT&T branded firmware then I'd get S-OFF and convert my phone to the dev edition if I were you. If you choose to stay on the AT&T firmware then you can update your phone via a RUU. Be aware that it's not possible to update from firmware 3.x or lower to firmware 4.x via RUUs due to new encryption keys.
