How do you change what the swipe up from the home button does?
Normally it opens mozilla search, how can I change it to opening the home screen instead of the search?

Flash Viper rom and you can customize any button in any possible way you can imagine
On stock rom, nope!

Im waiting for the stock rom actually, no sense, no htc stuff, just pure android.
It's not a button really, its more of a gesture, when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen (the HTC logo), it takes you to the Mozilla Search. I want that gesture to take you to the home screen.

The action occurs from the home button, you are just passing over the home button when you start at the HTC logo. Why would you want that option to take you to the home screen when you can already just tap the home button to get there? My preference would be to turn it off completely. No gesture at all.

Force of Habit from BB10.
The home button on BB10 is a swipe up from anything you are doing.

Miui question

Is it possible to add in a widget or something similar to the iphone search feature? something like the global search thing on the iphone would be a cool addition to have, and it would be nice to not have to switch to the google search screen. im talking about a screen purely devoted to the global search. just a thought
?
Your dedicated search button searches everything.
im talking about having a screen dedicated to it...basically iphone style. know what i mean?
basically, on miui, if one is to press and hold the home key so the recent apps comes up and then scrolls over. i want THAT on a homescreen. is that possible?

I'm pretty sure that isn't do-able, but it wouldn't shock me if it was included in an update or if there was a mod for that.

that would take a lot of moding to be able to do.

A couple simple things I can't figure out how to do.

My phone is rooted,
How do you multitask? For example if I am using Chrome or the stock browser, how do I switch to a app without exiting the browser? I thought it was long press the back button but it does not work. And how do I change the icons on my lock screen? Ive looked through all the setting and cant find it.
1. Press and Hold the HOME button (the physical button in the middle)
2. Settings --> Lock Screen --> Lock Screen Options --> (press) Shortcuts (not the on / off button .. the word)
If you dont have the multiwindow , you need to update firmware to get it.

Thanks you did help me with lock screen icons.
Why would multi-task not be supported by my phone? This should be a basic capability with smart phones these days.

I don't think I have multi-task, when I press the Home button I just get recently opened apps. I am rooted, what firmware would I upgrade to?

That IS multitasking. You're in the browser, then you want to switch to for example the S Note app without exiting (as in closing down/quitting) the browser. You press and hold the home button and select S Note in the app list that pops up. Then when you're done you do the same thing to get back to the browser.
If you're talking about dividing the screen in two and having two apps visible at the same time, that's a different thing, it's called multi-window and is done by pressing and holding the back key, then in the list that pops up, drag for example YouTube and drop it on the top of your screen, then do the same thing again to drag some other app to the bottom of the screen.
If you don't have the multi-window feature, you need to update your firmware.

When I press the Home button in my browser I don't get a list of apps on my phone I only get recently opened apps. When you say update my firmware do you mean OTA updates? Will this affect my root?

OK. Forget about the whole update thing. I don't think we're talking about the same thing here.
Long pressing home = list of recent apps
Long pressing back = multi-window app selection bar
If you want a list of apps on your phone, you press the home button once to get back to your home screen, and from there open the app drawer.
Is that what you meant?
Sorry for my original post above, I misread what you said. I thought you were talking about the multi Window feature in note 2 which can be activated by long pressing the back button.
The multi tasking is when you long press the home button, correct. You get the list of recently opened apps. That's how it works and how it always worked.
If you want a customizable pad that's let's you switch to other apps on the fly, then I highly recommend SwipePad. You can find it in the market and it's free.

For me
Long pressing Home= list of only recently opened apps (not all the apps on my phone).
Long pressing back= does nothing on my phone when I long press it.
Long press home button gives you a list if recently opened apps, yes. That's how it works. It doesn't, in any version of android, give you a list of all installed apps in your phone. I don't know where you got that idea.
Second, if you want the multi Window feature (which opens when you long press the back button) then check OTA update. If there are no updates for you, then wait for it in the future.

To open any other app on your phone, just press Home button and then run any app you wanted, and if you want switch back to your last app long press Home.
If you still dont get it, than search in youtube for Android multitasking.

[JB][BUG] Using home button to wake device always returns to launcher

As some have now noticed, there is a new bug in JB related to waking the device using the home screen under certain configurations.
How to reproduce:
Set lockscreen to None (might affect others types?? - default Swipe is NOT affected)
Open any app
Lock screen with power button
Press home button
Expected result (and how it worked in ICS):
The phone wakes, and you're back at the app you had opened before locking the screen
Actual result:
The phone wakes, but the home key press is processed as if the phone WAS NOT asleep.
In other words: it's like you hit the home key and you're taken to the launcher as normal. Or alternatively, if you locked the phone while at the launcher, whatever action you have configured for the home key in the launcher is triggered (for example, opening the app drawer).
Some notes:
Tested with both stock TW launcher and Apex - same result
Tested after OTA update, and full wipe - same result
Some related topics for a possible fix:

I've tried these suggestions in various combinations... so far no fix that works.
So lets see if we can use our collective intelligence and fix this.
Yes please! It's bugging me like hell!
After some further testing:
If you have S-Voice installed, and the "Open via the home key" option enabled, this bug will not happen.
Which is fine and good if you want a 1 second delay every time you press the home button.
And who wouldn't want that - right Samsung? /sarcasm
any fix for this yet?
nvmd, looks like the fix could be here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2009218
nope, so far the existing solutions do not work

Are you using 4.1.1. stock rom?

Same difference, I guess. The problem is only present when you don't have a double-press function assigned on the home button.

I use Home Button Shortcut

Adding Hardware button shortcuts

I'm looking for a tool that can assign shortcuts or the likes, by long pressing one of the hardware buttons.
(Like Long pressing home opens recent apps and longpress power button opens shutdown menu.)
I've searched a litte but nothing usefull comes up.
Thanks.

Thanks for the input, but it stays up, Taking RAM & Battery. I was looking more for a sort of System edit to make it work, without having an app open all the time.
Else I'd just use swipe opener.

Power button far to Reach? Try Bixby Button Instead

If you are having difficulty reaching power button to put phone to sleep, you can remap the Bixby button to do so.
Its pretty easy.
You should be on at least XXXXASBA firmware.
Add a quick command in Bixby at Advanced Feature.
Command "Turn off Display".
In bixby remap optipn, select single press and assign the command.
The only drawback is it takes a sec to turn the screen off.
Still, sometimes it better than reaching that Monster's button on top. Enjoy!!
Ah thanks mate, you're a genius. If only they had double tap to lock on the stock launcher

You do have it in launchers like Nova. Couldn't find anything special about OneUi launcher so it took me 0.0001s to make wise decision
Also been using Nova double tap to lock...

You can create a shortcut to lock the screen instead using the same Quick command. Just go to quick command. Select the gear icon next to the command and create the shortcut by selecting Add shortcut to home screen. At least you now get an alternative to double tap on screen.
Double tap to lock screen might also be possible if you use Tasker (I am not sure but I can give it a try)
Thanks, I'm using this now ?
Thanks, this is actually pretty smart.
But I feel like its more for lefties. Still have to reach when holding it in my right hand, so basically makes no difference reaching bixby button or the power button.
If you have "difficulties" reaching the power button... Then you have serious anatomical issues and the phone sl button a is the least of your worries...
Just grab Good Lock, install NavStar and add the screen off button to your navigation bar.
Here's how I have mine set up...
you can use One Hand Gesture+ as well, and set one of the gesture handles to turn off the screen. Simply swipe from either side that you like (similar to how you open Apps Edge) to turn off the screen

GoodLock is not globally available. NiceLock is an alternative though.
