I'm getting quite poor screen on times compared to what people have posted on here. Currently at 3% after 13 hours on battery, 2hr 25min screen on time and the screen supposedly accounts for 24% of the battery usage.
I have a pre release unit, I won it in the g4 photography competition, and I'm wondering if this is a dodgy unit.
Should I be expecting more screen on time or am I just paying the price for a QHD screen. I attached a screen shot of my battery usage if that's of any interest.
Any advice greatly appreciated!
I have the retail unit, I tell you from my experience.
I get SOT of about 4 hrs to 4hrs 30 mt on every charge. But if you dont use the phone for couple of hrs there is a battery drain of 1 to 2 percent every hour.

So, my device was exactly like that when I got it. I did a complete factory reset (cleared all data) and it is MUCH better.
Consistently getting 5:30 SOT over 21 or so hours. Not doing anything special. Location on battery saving mode with Google location reporting/history off, WiFi on most of the time, auto-brightness, etc.
I'll give it a shot!

I do have location on battery saving mode and I think Google backup etc is on. The exact same setup as I had with my one plus one which had amazing battery life. I will try a factory reset.
Just a thought - do you have the forced updated from LG? I'm running build LMY47D and software version VX10a-EUR-XX
So I did a factory reset and I'm on 50% with 11hr 45min up time and 1hr 7mins screen-on-time. The screen is responsible for 22% usage. So If I just had the screen on (and no cpu etc haha) I could achieve a 5 hr screen-on-time.. something doesn't feel right :S

You can lower your brightness if it is not already at the lowest setting.
Unfortunately, the galaxy nexus has poor battery life. You could also try turning off data when you don't need it.

the screen is at lowest and it doesnt make sense turning of data if the problem is from screen right?
I'm having the exact same issue. Screen is totally eating up my battery life. It took 30 minutes for the battery to go down by like 10%. And the screen is 40% of the battery life issue.

Maybe I just don't use the screen as much as you, but I don't find this to be true for me. I find it has great battery life. I don't sit for hours with the screen on, but I do regularly text and check emails throughout the day, do a bit of web browsing, take some calls, and play some Angry Birds or other games in the evening. The screen is always at the top of the list for battery usage, but even on an extreme day I still have more than 30% battery left by the time I go to bed. I throw it on the charger and I'm ready to go again in the morning.
I disagree that the Galaxy Nexus has poor battery life, in general. I would argue that: all high-end phones have "poor" battery life because of all the things they do (especially 720p screens), your personal use of it consumes a lot of power and you could benefit from an extended battery, or you have a faulty device.
hi there, i do that exact same things with no games, so less usage but i get less than a day... i love the phone but the batery is just no working...
I don't understand why people don't get that when you have a screen that is 4.65'' it will destroy the battery life. My screen use is always at 60% or more but yet I still get good battery life. The screen is going to use the majority of your battery when compared to other things, that's just how it is.
sorry but thats not the point, when you pay 700 for a top phone, that is suposed to be the google experience to carry arround wiith you and you can only get 10 hours of battery time something went wrong in the process...
Most phones are $600 to $700, and name one 4g phone that will last more than 10 hours with moderate use and no extended battery, just not going to happen. You need to reset your expectations.
GN battery is giving lots of trouble, too. I picked up the phone from charge and it was 100% charged. ! hour of usage with 3g on. Usage includes 1 hours or music and reading of pdf books simultaniously and battery is dropped to 61%.

I think you should take a look at every other android phone that has come out with the same specs in the last year. Everything from the EVO 3d to the thunderbolt have their default battery's not last more than around 6-8 hours with constant use because of the screen & processors.
THis is why Verizon offered the extended batteries at a discounted rate right off the bat, because default batteries have never ever lasted that long in topof the line smartphones. FFS the new iphone 4s I've heard from a friend that their phones don't even last 24 hours.
I have a galaxy nexus, and mine has lasted... let me see.. one sec...1 day 3 hours and 25sec's with 35% left. (of course I have the extended battery) but here's the kicker: the extended battery has basically the same back as the regular phone does. so if they so desired, verizon could technically put out another extended battery just like all the rest of the phones, but they might not do that. I'm content with the battery life as it is almost identical as the droid X from which I came. The only difference is since I have a lot of un-updated apps for ice cream sandwich one of them is using "mediaserver" A LOT. I'm talking about that being the top of my battery draining with the screen being second. They both have taken ~20% with android OS itself taking 13, PlayerPro taking 13, and other random things like calls and txt msging taking ~10% each.
So I would suggest not trying to watch a lot of stuff on your phone while on battery, or don't expect your battery to survive long while watching stuff on that great screen
hymn thanks for the feedback so the only solution I see would be to go for a bigger battery. I'm from Portugal were could I buy one and whays the power?

If your screen usage is less than 50%, it be more worried about what else is killing your battery........
I get 3-4 hours battery life at best I see people saying they get 10 hours I don't see how that is possible? Is my phone a dud or what this is very frustrating. It does the samething On the extended 2100mah battery. I'm running aopk milestone 4 and glados kernel

It looks like you were had screen on for close to 2 hours and made a phone call, albeit short. This is normal battery life for as much as you use the device.
You should try manually sync or set the syncing interval as high as possible.
Wifi always ON doesn't affect the battery life unless your wireless connection is weak/unstable.
Lower your screen's brightness or use Auto Brightness.
Fully charge your phone and let it alone for 2, 3 hours and check how much battery drains. If it drains 3-4% in idle mode, it's normal. Check also if your phone wakes up a lot, maybe some apps are running in the background and they wake your phone up frequently.
Hope it helps.
I used to have really poor battery life and like you wondered how people managed to get the stats I was seeing here.
I recently decided to do a factory reset for a different reason and to my surprise my battery life has improved incredibly. Yesterday I got over 18 hours in total with over 4 hours on screen time. This was with the stock gsm battery. Granted I was using wifi throughout but I was lucky to get 8 hours before the reset, even with wifi. With 3g I'm now getting 14 hours easily with over 3 hours screen time.
My point is if you've never done a factory reset, you may want to give it a go.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
It's a bit hard to diagnose the problem based on only a screenshot of your battery stats.
Since your screen is using over 50% of your battery life, my guess is that you just had your screen on for about two hours of the total two hours and forty-five minutes. It's normal to not get more than about two hours of screen time. (Tap on the Screen part of battery stats to get more info on how long the screen was on for.)
In my experience with three Android phones (MyTouch 3G, MyTouch 4G, Galaxy Nexus), all the usual tips to conserve battery life pretty much do nothing to improve battery life: turning off syncing and background data, turning off wireless, don't use widgets, turn off GPS, etc.
Pretty much there are two big battery suckers on Android phones and particularly the Galaxy Nexus--the screen being on and LTE being on. If you dim the screen or just keep it off, you will seriously prolong the battery life. And if you use CDMA only, you will also seriously prolong your phone's battery life.
That said, it's also possible something is wrong with your phone... or your battery. We can't know just from the screenshot you posted.
This looks normal. How much screen on time do you have?

These kids these days...
Got the Hyperion last week from Amazon and overall I was impressed with its initial performance. It was a huge boost from the oem battery as I didn't have to recharge my phone at all during the day.
My only concern is that I've noticed I haven't been seeing similar numbers as others have mentioned with their Hyperion. I mean, I'm not getting 24+ hrs of use with 8 hrs of on screen time. I'll take a photo next time when its at its lowest charge but I am averaging about 5-6 hrs of on screen time, and thats with basic use, surfing the web, texting, couple phone calls, no games or movies, wifi/gps/sync on, and 30% brightness, non rooted as well.
Does anyone else feel their Hyperion isn't performing as others have claimed?

24+ hours with 8+ hours screen is is down right impossible. The reason people get extended batteries is because they want more than the stocks screen time for 4-5 hours without worrying about their phone dying.
Not really... With the correct kernel and ROM I can push that if not surpass it. Paranoid 2.51 leankernel 1.6 been home all day from the storm... That's 3 hours 12 mins screen on time @ 67% juice left.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
For me, not so much. Today for an example, I got a little over 12 hrs until I hit the 5% mark with almost 6 hours of screen on time. Home all day too with wifi on and screen brightness at 30%.
One thing I did notice though is that the "sdcard" used 1 hr and 17 mins of the battery. I've never even seen the sdcard on the activity list before, this is the 2nd time I've seen it since installing the Hyperion battery. Hmm what could it be?
I almost made it.. I'm running Aokp build 4. Not sure what the kernel is.
Plus the batteries have to go through a charging period... I noticed the first day it lasted a long time almost 2 days. (1day22hrs)I forget what the screen on time.

Have you looked at any wakelocks your getting with better battery stats? That is pretty bad for the 4200 batt. Did you do the charging cycles that were detailed in the user manual?
Hey I was just passing by and reading threads, although I don't have this battery, a very possible reason that your battery life might not be as good is that you're still on stock. Notice everyone else who posted is on a custom rom + kernel. The GS3 stock roms are nice but come very bloated with apps. I read somewhere that on stock when you start up your phone, by default it starts a very impressively high number of processes ~50ish. I could be wrong on that but yeah a bloated stock rom MIGHT be the problem. Just my thought.

No I have not tried that app yet.
And yes I did follow the initial charging instructions as well.
It has to be something with the phone because even with the stock battery I had terrible performance, it'd last me only 3 hrs of on screen time where I've heard most users receive around 5.
He is my cpu time, it seems normal since the phone is spent most of its time in deep sleep.
Good at first/No so good after a couple months?
I havce the Hyperion, and have experienced close to 48 hours of life, albeit with very little use. With moderate use, I've experienced 30 hours. My screen time never surpasses 3 hours per day.
A few weeks ago I installed the Serenity 1.1 ROM. I have not been able to get more than 15 hours with that ROM.
This morning, I put in my stock battery, and it has been in for 9 hours so far, and is currently at 83%. I did a reboot about 4 hours ago, so don't have accurate screen-on stats. But I'm never at 83% this time of day with the Hyperion.
ANyone else experience good, then later, poor performance from this battery?
In the beginning I head awesome battery power. Now the battery is horrible I only get 2 hours screen time at 65 percent. Any ideas? Also undervolted and running 1.8mhz but battery still runs hot.

Just picked up a used GNex and thought everything was great until i started using it. I have a regular and an extended battery both exhibiting near instantaneous battery drain til it gets down to about 70 - 60 percent and slows down a little. disabled auto rotate and GPS with brightness turned all the way down. using liquidsmooth and also reverted to stock- rooted with same results.
All in all from full charge to completely drained I get about 6 hours with light to moderate use. It takes about 6 - 7 hours to charge as well.
I knew the Gnex was a battery eater but this seems a little much.

yes, VZW phone. I don't know what you mean by screen on time, how do I check that?
Also wanted to mention that I did wipe batterys stats when flashing and with liquid the default lean kernel settings
another thing I noticed is when charging the batter goes from 100% to 99% pretty frequently.
Like I said I'm new to the GNex but this kind of battery life actual makes me want to go back to the TBolt.

you check your screen on time by going into settings, then battery, then tap/click on the screen. then you'll see the screen on time. since you are using 4.1 JB on LTE device, I don't think the battery life would be that good, but we need to know the screen on time to know if there is a problem or if it's normal
using it heavy for 6 hours total battery time and getting 3-4.5 hours screen on time is normal. using it lightly for 6 hours total battery time and getting 1 hour of screen on time is not normal. heck, i get great battery life, but i can kill my battery within 5 hours, but ill get 4.5 hours screen on time(gsm gnex).

hate to say it but that probably answers my question. If I had to guess I would say the screen was on most of the time as it is new to me so getting things set up and such. will try some of the tips I found around these parts and report back.
flashed latest official image from Google and got nearly 13 hrs. on battery with nearly 3 hrs screen time while on 3g most of the day.
so I think it is either 4g or maybe something to do with the bootloader which was on ja003 before. IDK but reasonably happy with battery now.
It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the ZTE Axon 7 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
One of the better SOT phones I've owned since coming from smaller 4.5 inch screens. I easily get 4 hours on a long day (16 -18 hours off the charger). I watched 2.5 hour movie the other day and did some more stuff. In 8 hours, I had over 5 hours of SOT with 47% battery left.

I don't like gsam because it doesn't read the SOT from the system. It records it's own stats.
GSam battery monitor allows you to see the stock android battery stats and screen on time from there by going to the menu on the bottom right, clicking more and then Battery Use - Built In. If there is an easier way to get to stock android battery stats, I'd love to know.

This is the best phone I've owned in terms of battery life. With nova launcher and using nova's battery widget I can see my SOT. I average 5:30 which is alot for me. I have gotten as much as 6:40! This is all usually over 12-28 hrs. The phone is just phenomenal, just wish the camera was better.

I would believe it. I got about 5 hours in my last run. What I think ate up about 20% was listening to music through the speakers.. The phone drained faster than normal Witt the speakers on at max volume.. Which makes sense and is 5000% tolerable because how amazing they sound.
Furthermore, if I could get some stronger cell phone signal, that would help with screen on time too. I never have no signal, but I never see over two bars of signal either.
Sorry about double post.. Forgot to include second one..
Ok, I thought this was a battery beast but I think I was wrong. I don't expect any phone's battery indicator to be totally accurate but I've noticed that if I top the A7 up a little the battery doesn't drain *at all* for a long time. I've been letting it go down to 30% then topping it up to 40% where it stays without moving even while I'm streaming music and surfing for half an hour. Fishy.
I thought that as I was on about 3:30 sot at 40% I'd let it go down further to see if it would reach 5 hours. Three charging cycles in a row the phone has hit 19% and then reported that it's empty and shut down.
