Pair remote on 2 devices? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Is it possible to pair a second remote that is already paired on one Fire TV box so that it works on my 2nd box upstairs? I no longer have the first box, just the remote. I keep trying to pair it and the my 2nd box won't pick it up.. im thinking its because its still paired to the first one???
Basically I had 2 fire TV's... While spring cleaning today my daughter put one in a bucket of water.. its gonzo.. I know the remote works on that unit as I used it earlier today. My upstairs Fire TV has its own remote, but the up button has been sticking a lot.. I want to use the basement remote upstairs rather than forking out $60+ for a new remote... It just won't pair.. no matter what I try. I was thinking.. Maybe its because it was paired to the first box??? I can't turn the first box on as its destroyed, so I don't even know how to unpair it ??
Thanks so much! I really appreciate any guidance!

Can you pair remote to 2 fire tv devices at the same time?

Hello,
My kiddo seems to have lost my remote for the fire tv. I have since been using USB wireless keyboard. However, I have found some apps do not work well with it. I see the remote is sold for $30. For another $55 I can just buy a 2nd system. If I buy a 2nd fire tv, can I use the remote that comes with it on both fire tv devices?
Yes. But it is a pain and not with sync-resyncing effort. Keep looking. Or grab a game controller for $20 off amazon till You find remote. Staples is sell whole firetv for $71 with coupon. Code.

When you pair the remote with the second Fire TV, the first Fire TV will no longer see the remote. Since the first Fire TV has no remote attached it will be searching for one, so you just need to hold the home button on the remote for a bit for the first Fire TV to see it again. You'll have to do this everytime you switch to a different Fire TV. This is the behavior I observed when powering on a Fire TV that has no remote. I'm not sure if the remote-less Fire TV can find the remote if it is already on or sleeping. You may need to reboot the Fire TV every time you switch.

2nd Gen Fire TV Controller glitchy....

Wsup XDA!!!
Got my Fire TV 2nd Gen yesterday! I purchase the gaming bundle and was kind of dissapointed it didn’t come with the regular small remote control.
Also the gaming controller is glitchy.
Don't know what to try to improve it but if you guys figure something out let us know please.
Appreciate all your help!
Thanks!
My small controller is also glitchy, loses connection frequently. Think I will have to return the box till it's sorted.

i bought 3 fire tv 2.0 and one of them has a remote that is extremely bad. takes 5-6 presses when you first starts.
Trying to play Castle of Illusionwas impossible on the 2nd Gen Fire TV. Not only did the game run worse than my 1st Gen but I keep dying when Mickey Mouse was racing to get away from the falling apple. Moving him was like he was on ice so I gave up. So glad I send this beta product back and I am back to the more reliable 1st Gen Fire TV.

Third Party Remotes

I'm personally not a fan of the stock remote. It's a lot of money for not a lot of buttons. What else have people tried? I've heard of success connecting the Amazon Fire TV Stick remote to the Shield. Has anybody tried the Nexus Player remote or the Roku 3 remote?
I'm currently using the stock game controller and a DualShock 4 controller.
What about Logitech Harmony with the FLIRC universal IR receiver. I've used in my current media center an Acer Revo wonder if the IR will work in Android, I've read yes but I don't know. Off course you will spend more money but Harmony is a plus for me.
I'm just looking for a small remote that will give me the main functions of the overpriced stock one. I've read that the Amazon Fire TV stick remote works with our Shield, and it is only $15 on Amazon, but unfortunately they do not ship to Canada as the Fire TV is not sold here.
Can anyone on this forum recommend a small 3rd party remote that works well with our SATV?

Shield has IR, Harmony remotes work perfectly. No need to buy IR.
Any decent learning universal IR remote should work.
i use logitiech harmony touch
although i want to try the new amazon remote firetv remote as i do like their remote,s not sure if it will work as its wifi
the new fire tv 4k remote works which runs on wifi which makes it a better operation than the logitech touch im using, faster and slicker and also better than the controller (easier to hold) for general usage, plex, youtube, kodi
anyone know if the new apple tv remotes works? i dont have that device
I can confirm at least for me that the nexus player remote does not work on the shiled.

Anyone know how in the world to get an Amazon Fire tv 4k remote (or fire tv stick remote) in Canada? Amazon.ca doesn't carry it and Amazon.com will not ship these, or anything to do with their tv box, to Canada.
PS: I'm DESPERATELY looking for a good small 3rd party remote that can be ordered in Canada.

Don't no if it works.
I would really like to know if anyone has had success with the Amazon Fire TV 4K remote (which uses WiFi Direct). Im trying to write a Christmas list.

It works. Voice search works too. You have to pair it as a Shield accessory though.

Do you know where to buy one on it's own or do you own the new Fire TV? I'm surprised that voice search works.

Sorry, I own the 2nd gen FireTV. I read that the FireTV stick with the new wifi direct remote will be one sale for about $30 for black Friday. If that helps...
Funny thing about Amazon's new wifi direct remote. It's laggy as hell on the Fire TV. Works perfectly on my Shield.

Thanks, it looks like that deals not going on in the UK, or at least not yet (Amazon's doing a 'Black Friday Week' this year). I'll keep an eye on it though.
Great remote.. 10 dollars
Found this on amazon.. Can't say enough about how well it works with my shield TV.. Has voice search and the whole nine yards
Libertview Multifunction 2.4 G Mini Wireless Keyboard & Infrared Remote Control & 3-Gyro + 3-Gsensor W USB Wireless Receiver For Android Smart,Mini PC
I'm guessing there are no standout choices?
My Sony NSG-MR1 remote from my Google TV works with the Shield. The keyboard doesn't works, as it triggers things in my Google TV. It might work on the Shield if it was on a standard tv.

Does the sound still come out from your TV/ sound system? I asked cos I had a MINIX A2 with voice control but it routed the audio to the remote speaker instead of from TV.
So you will press a button to trigger google voice, speak to the remote, Shield return the results, and everything back to normal?

I hope a decent remote becomes available soon

Sideclick Remote

Has anyone tried a Sideclick Remote with their FireTV? I've just ordered one from the US as they look pretty good as a universal remote solution. There aren't many reviews around, but the videos on YouTube look pretty positive and it's not all that expensive compared to a universal remote. Not sure if I'm allowed to post the link on here so I'll just stick on an image.

I kickstarted this project and have been using it for a long time. It is great! I got rid of 2 extra remotes and now have 99% of the functionality I need in one place.
That's what I'm hoping for. Hopefully it will be able to map my TV and soundbar into one

Yup - that's exactly what I do. I use the A and B buttons to do my soundbar volume, and + and - to do my TV volume.
I've got one and have been using it for months. Quite happy with the way it works. I have most of the functions setup to control my Xbox One and the volume plus and minus buttons for my soundbar that it's hooked up to. Works great! The only complaint I have is that it doesn't stay in one place when attached to the Fire TV remote and easily slides up and down.

I've noticed that the Fire TV 2 remote is the tiniest bit narrower than the Fire TV 1 remote, so it does slide a bit. If you stick something in there such as a piece of a rubber band, it will stay still and out of sight.
Another alternative is to get a FLIRC to make your existing universal IR remote work with the fire. Add in a $1 180-degree usb extender to keep things looking classy and you're set.
Got my hands on it and it's really useful. It's got a nice snug fit to the fire TV 2 remote, they might have updated the design slightly. It's gonna take me a little getting used to, but so far so good!

Blank/black screen when switching to Fire TV from different source

I just got a Fire TV box 3 days ago and it is annoying as all hell. I setup my Harmony 1100 to turn on the Fire TV activity for the wifey but when I switch from antenna tv to the FTV through hdmi on my AVR it will play the audio but no video display? Other times I get neither audio or video and while trying to get something out of the thing it just reboots itself??? Is this fixable? Do I need to get a replacement box? Is this normal in which case this thing is nothing more than a heavy brick?
When it's working it seems pretty good and solid and PlayStation Vue is really nice but this no display issue is a deal breaker if it can't be fixed.
