[Q] YouTube crashes when casting - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any idea why my YouTube crashes when I cast from the YouTube app on my Android phone or from my Chromebook using Chrome?
I have sideloaded Kodi and that's about it that's been modded on my AFTV

Same issue here and no fix that I know of.

I just restart the Fire Tv and then it does cast, annoying though.

It's really sluggish if I cast YouTube from my phone to the YouTube app on my fire stick
I just use the YouTube plugin on kodi - you can search on your phone if you find that easier then once you know the name of the video type it in the search box

Yeah, rebooting fixes it. I was trying to find out which app to kill would fix it, but i couldn't. Was also hoping there was maybe some sort of fix.
I've got a wireless keyboard, so i guess i could search for it but it's nice if you find stuff and then just wanna show everyone else in the room
thanks guys

Apple TV Mirroring?

I'm glad I got my Amazon Fire TV, it's working out really well, especially for XBMC.
However, one key thing I'm missing now (since I sold my Apple TV) is the ability to Airplay Mirror. I was looking for an alternative in reading some of the posts we have so far. I came across someone successfully using Air Receiver, but I wasn't able to get access to the APK.
At any rate, if anyone has any thing they've done to successfully get an Airplay Mirror alternative to work, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks.
I believe some people are using AllCast. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to be working fine.
I'm looking for something similar but will allow multiple people on the network to send YouTube videos into a queue on the FireTV from their phones. This is all I use the Chromecast for now and I'm trying to eliminate the need for the Chromecast.
Edit: Apparently AllCast does YouTube queuing like the Chromecast. Sweet.
AirPlay DLNA
Search Airplay/dlna on the google app store
That should do it for you. I was looking for the same thing.

There is no way to currently cast a chrome browser tab or the computer screen to it like you can with Chromecast. I need that ability and still use the Chromecast for it. Otherwise, I would have removed the Chromecast and just gone with the FireTV. I currently have both.
I see that allcast could work, but it doesn't support mirroring which is really what I'm after.
Spelvin, I can try what you've suggested. I'm not sure how to get the apk to the fire tv though, I can't get apk's off my phone, I'm not rooted. Guess I'll have to root.

Even when I press the power button and turn the screen off on my iPhone. Audio playback to my Pioneer receiver stops when I do that!

[Q] Youtube videos coming in halfscreen!!

Hello Team,
Suddenly my Youtube app in fire tv showing all the videos in the half screen and rest half is gone somewhere. I checked other videos in vevo tv and they are working fine.
I uninstalled the youtube app and download it again but still the same issue.
I am using the fire tv as it is received from Amazon i.e. no root
Anybody can help here in this.

I tried that several times even uninstalled the app but no luck. Thanks a lot for your reply.
The modded version of YouTube app does not require root on FireTV since there is no system app.
Go grab the YouTube HD Mod from the related forum topic and try it via sideloading.
Uninstall the normal YouTube app first.

And if that does not work, try getting an older version of the GTV YouTube app since that one works really well and I started having trouble with the modded version being inconsistent and crashing.

Youtube Alternatives

So I'm having extreme frustrations with the native Youtube app for my Fire TV Stick. It's often slow, randomly crashes, CONSTANTLY lags without fail, and I can't even use the Amazon Fire TV Android app to type to search. It's just not an overall well done app for the Stick at least. I can't speak about the Fire TV Box, which I might purchase due to some sluggishness with the Stick (i.e. Youtube, Kodi, etc) So, I've tried other alternatives on the Amazon Appstore. Namely OneTube. It works decently, but it doesn't look too pretty, is difficult to find things when I don't know what I want to watch, and no Cast/pair support.
The older Youtube for Google TV works well, but unfortunately, when using the remote, I can't click the search box to search anything lol.
I've used the Youtube for Android TV 1.0.5.5 app(sideloaded) and, minus the regular complaints about the app itself, runs great! No lag, videos work fine, and I can type to search with the Amazon Fire TV app on my phone. Downside is that I can't seem to find a pair device setting in the app itself :/ Now maybe I need to sideload google play services in order to get it to show up? I'm not sure, but I thought that was only necessary if you wanted to sign into your YouTube account.
So my question is are there any alternate YouTube players that work well, or is there a way to pair my device with the new Youtube for Android TV app?
The kodi YouTube app works very well and you could use yatse to cast videos to it.

Kodi closing after opening an app

Is there anyway to prevent Kodi from closing whenever an app is used, I'd prefer to use it as my launcher but if I fire up Google Music or Youtube it quits and restarts the app. Before the update I could hit home and it would nicely be waiting in the background. Any ideas?
Same here would like to know as well
Same here is there any solution of this?
I would like to know that as well
I havent gone past 5.1 ish on my stick and using ftv launcher from tv.addons and it allows reentry using the back button on home screeen not sure about youtube app i use youtube on spmc and kodi. My ftv2 is still 5.0.5 and like you guys said theres no issues. Its dependent on ram usage which youtube app im sure needs plenty of.

Youtube android app without root

Is there a solution to run youtube android app on Fire TV (without root)?
I tried this https://www.androidsage.com/2016/04...tore-on-the-amazon-fire-devices-without-root/ and sideloaded latest youtube apk but i get rh-01 connection problem with playstore.

try and get the android tv version, will probably have more success with that.
And you probably won't every get playstore to fully work but all you really want is for it to register so play services will work and thus youtube and playmusic apps will work.

Thanks for reply, I have actually sorted my issues completely now, I have stopped all unnecessary amazon stuff running, huge list by the way, and have Google play all configured with android youtube and all my Google paid apps fully configured and recognising I'm signed in. Xposed setup, custom recovery, six axis with ps3 pads connected, USB OTG configured on boot with mele pro airmouse/keyboard/remote combo ? An to top it off no amazon home stuff at all, I have a launcher installed (was going to use official leaseback launcher but found it rubbish) the one I'm using is called Top TV Launcher 2.97. Very customisable and good on the eyes. Firestick is much more responsive the way it's setup now.
Nice,... I'll have to check out that launcher
