[Q] Connection blocked by the provider? - ZenFone 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys... Im from Panama and i have a question let tell a little background
Here in Panama we have 2 providers that have LTE and uses band 28 this is why i bought my zenfone from taiwan with band 28 reception... this is the problem i put my sim card from one of the provider and guess what didnt got LTE and they told me is becuase is my phone that is not allow in their network (they are selling phone which is LTE ready according to them) But i friend of my put his simcard of his samsung S6 from the second company (uses the same 28 band) and my phone got LTE rightaway... So is somthing the provider can do to stop phones coming from outside getting LTE? Right now my phone is getting HSPA+ that is H+ but nothing else
And in the screenshot my phone is detecting the network which is the first LTE that you see. The second LTE with Forbidden is from the other company from which my friend have his simcard..
Thanks for the help

mmm, should you probe further to your Service provider on why it is not allow, could it be that your version was the TD-LTE? which only china has? they use difference accessing method.
the possibility of SP locking the network base on phone is rare as they need to spend extra server to cater for such banning and this does not goes into their profit and Ike customer in general. It could also be that your sim card does not have LTE function. this function is stored in HSS ( HLR) where all your services are known in the network.
Check further then post here. seem to me it is more of your sim account issue.

i post tomorrow im going to talk to my provider and hear what they have to say
Thanks for the interest

Hi good evening , well i came back and I talk to my provider this time the guy told me that my phone should work withouth any problem since it uses the same LTE band as they do which is band 28. He told me that aparently they have to activate something in their network in order for my phone to get LTE signal so they will be calling me tomorrow to tell me if I need to do somthing else. I ask him if i need to use a contract or if prepaid work too. And he told me that it also work with a prepaid service. He told me that my simcard is LTE ready and should not have any problems but told me that they will investigate. Also they dont use TD-LTE.
I will post a soon as I have the answer from them

dont trust your telecom, some truth are not allow to tell customer about, i work for 7 years for 2 different telecom.
if your phone is TD-LTE, you can never connect to your network no matter what, just see it as a door with a wrong key
if it is FD-LTE, it is most likely the settings on your profile is not provisioned, the Customer service may tell you they see it is up but in fact the system that they are reading the data from MAY not be unified with the back-end servers.
It may also because someone in-experience have wrongly provision your SIM profile.
Lastly it could be then handset is faulty with LTE service.
the best way is to call up the telecom with another phone and proposed a testing right when he/she is attending to you. ask them to forward the testing time/ MSISDN to the supporting engineering for wireshark trace. they CAN straight away tell you what problem you encounter.
you are at least someone in the forum that listen and understand truth. some others in another part of the forum are stubborn as hell..
hope you gotten the FD phone and it works for you.

Thank you very much for all these usefull information you are giving me that you gain from your expirience I really apriciate all your help and kwoledge and this will help me explain my self better when i have to talk with them.
I came here becuase there a lots of thing i still need to learn about telecomunication and bands in general (Im actually studing medicine but this calls my attention)
Well i im sure that I got a FD phone because with the second telecom (the one that my friend uses) my phone got the LTE right away so im sure thats not the problem and becuase it got LTE im sure that my phone is working all good.
Since the phone is FD then the most like thing is happening is that they havent afiliate the services correctly (that what the guy from the telecome told me) and that technicians will set up that in their side. They will call me tomorrow and tell me whats happening.
He also told me that aparently there have to be a second registration of the data service which is the one for the LTE that hasnt been done and this could be the reason of the problem.
The only thing is about the testing you you are telling me. Let me see if a got it right. Tell them to foward the time/MSISDN (its the phone numer) to engineering to wireshark trace (this is for looking that the connection and the setups are correct and the case they are not then look where is the problem if in their side or my side)
Again thank you very much. Really apriciate your help and im came here to learn and maybe some else with the same problem have the answer here
Good night

let me put it in this way
1) call up your telco and during the call, tell them that you will be performing a test for packet transfer on your phone now.
2) just try to manually connect to their LTE network by search.
3) let them know the time range that you are doing this (eg. 14:00 to 14:05)
4) get them to let the back end engineer do his/her work tracing > SGSN signalling > DPD context.
5) wait till they come back with you on the details why is it not working for you.
the handset send a signal to the radio (UTRAN) and request a data service (LTE), in this case it the radio will forward this request to the SGSN to S Gateway( just take it as signalling module), if everything is okay, it will inform the UTRAN ok to set up tunnel (in layman context, it is the traffic medium) > so P Gateway will directly link from user UTRAN to it and out to the web via PDP context.
hope this is not heavy for you, in between there are firewalls which the network engineer is able to pick up where the data is dropping for your case.
oh i see that you are going to be a medical personnel, all you need to know is that radio are everywhere and there are some instrument that is using certain band of frequency which will interupt (crosstalk) to your instrument.
the normal cases are WiFi band as it is under free band and medical usage.
For cellular, it does not matter. the reason why hospital ban it in sensitive area is because folks in the older days are using analog signal for transmission (ASK,FSK,PSK) these are to determine the data status of any radio instrument. however nowadays, we no longer use them and systems are all digitized. so it doesnt matter if you broadcast radio in sensitive room because we are using higher tech like QAM64 etc.
lastly the reason why medical still insisted that no radio in the sensitive room is all because... changing of something might affect something else, even if they know what i said, they worry that other stuff might complicate. look at Airport during flight, it is the same reason, handphone can switch on during flight but they say no. its the same reason.
The top management knows nothing and the engineers is reluctance to set things right, too much work to do.
you can read more into those, i know pilot also need to learn about these too!

hi good night im still waiting for them to reply so i think they will call me on monday. When i contact them ill ask them to do this test you are telling me and ill get back with you as soon as i have results.. Thanks and have a good night

hello a came back and with good news. The lady sold me the wrong sim card and they also had to activate LTE services. Now everything its working great thanks for the help sooty84.
Right now im getting 25Megabites pes sec down 20 megabite up i think its because LTE network is new
I think this can be mark with resolve

Hey great! glad to help

T Mobile USA/International One X owners in need of new SIM when...?

Hello all.
It appears we can expect the transition for 3g data on the 1900 MHz PCS band sometime between now and the end of the year as T Mobile is really looking to deploy LTE in 2013.
So, we (T Mo USA customers) all learned the hard way that we needed an older model micro SIM in order to get data on our phone.
Does anyone know if we will need a newer micro SIM (actually-the current micro SIM provided by T Mobile for the One S) to access the 3g data once it has been deployed?
What do you opine? Any insight would be great.
Thanks!
Shouldn't need to. Some places already have the 1900Mhz deployed as test beds and I haven't heard anything about needing a new sim.
All SIMs do nowadays is hold your subscriber number that gets relayed to a tower. That number is then looked up in a database to see if you meet requirements (e.g. are a paying customer, what services you have enabled, etc.).
I have an old SIM from 2007 that I am still using so I it doesn't work I'll let you know
I had no trouble going from a 2G to a 3G device with it if that helps you.
The only thing I'm worried about is if the 1900Mhz will be counted as roaming on AT&T and whether we'll have to pay extra for it.
I'm not getting data. I just got a sim card from tmobile today.
No data for me. Talked to tmobile and they said to talk to HTC.
What should i do?
Ask for an older SIM. The newer SIMs that Tmo has been using haven't worked on One Xs. Try seeing if they have any older miniSIMs and then you can cut it into a microSim.

T Mobile has roaming agreements with AT&T, so I wouldn't worry about that. With regards to 3g on the 1900 MHz PCS band, it actually has nothing to do with roaming agreements via AT&T. T Mobile is actually reframing their network to allow HSPA and HSPA+ via 1900 spectrum opposed to its current structure which only supports 2g data on the same frequency.
According to T Mobile, they are refarming frequencies of their network to modernize their network; pushing 3g traffic to their 1900 MHz frequency allows them to deploy true LTE on their current 3g AWS bands (1700/2100).
My original concern was, how there is clearly an incompatibility with the newer micro SIMs and the international One X, will that incompatibility cause me to have to switch SIMs when 3g is moved over 1900? I'm not savvy enough to understand the issue between T Mo's current micro SIMs and the reasoning behind the incompatibility with the One X. I certainly don't want to miss out on faster HSPA speeds when it does take off in Boston so, I figured I would ask.
Do you have your One X set to GSM or GSM/WCDMA auto? I currently have mine set on the latter.
Thanks!

There is a thread in the General section discussing this.
You should call into a local store and say you need an older micro SIM, specifically ask for a non GBA micro SIM. If your local store does not have one in stock, the rep might be nice enough to email other local reps and call you back (as they did with me) when they receive a response. Hopefully, you wont strike out. If so, you would have to eBay or Amazon your older micro SIM.
I ended up driving about 10 miles from my office to pick one up as none of the T Mobile stores closest to me (6 of them) had them in stock. When I finally got one, I had never been happier getting Edge speeds in my life, lol.
Thanks, man!

Status update...
I thought it would be courteous to update all reading this thread on my discoveries.
I've re-visited the T-Mobile store with a copy of the information found on this thread in hands, only to find that the guys working on that store are either unprepared or unwilling to help. They told me that T-Mobile only carries one type of micro sim across all their stores, they indicated they were not willing to do the legwork, very disappointing since I've been T-Mobile's customer for over 10 years.
Sounds like the alternative is to dig this special, older micro sim out of ebay or amazon, or move to another provider.
Any other alternatives?
That stinks!
Please know that I too struck out after calling 3 local stores (all within 3-5 miles). You probably got someone with less experience or perhaps you went during store peak hours. I recommend you call a branch (obviously not that one) and ask for a manager. Let the manager know that you are looking for a specific type of micro SIM, a non GBA kind. Let him or her know that you have struck via customer care and that he is your last resort as the T Mobile store closest to where you live no longer carry that SIM.
Out of all of T Mo stores that I called, only one person had no clue of what I was talking about but did get someone else on the phone for me. They all told me they no longer carried the older micro SIM.
Don't let this experience discourage you. If you want it for free, you have to call around.
Last resort would be eBay, etc.
Good luck bro!
Hey guys, im thinking of getting a One X for t-mobile and I want to know if all full size sims are non GBA. i already have a cut down full size sim so will that work in the One X on edge speeds?
Jelly: That's what I did when I first got my international HOX and it worked fine with EDGE. Please share if you start receiving 4G speeds....
Thanks,
Why dont you guys just wait till tmo announces their new htc one+?

[Q] Data service iffy on LTE - phone or Straight Talk issue

Hi,
I've been having data issues with my HTC ONE M8 on Straight Talk for the past couple of weeks. the data service for some reasons got really iffy. before everything was absolutely fine. now sometimes I cannot access data at all, sometimes something is working and something doesn't.
when the data doesn't work:
- most of websites are not reachable
- google.com seems to work normally
- google maps might work; sometimes very slow, sometimes not working at all
- ookla speedtest won't start, but if I set a fixed server it might work
- facebook.com might work in the browser but the app doesn't work
- refreshing the page seems to help
on WI-FI I have absolutely no problem. everything works fine.
phone and txt messages work without problems.
on 3G (HSDPA) everything seems to work fine. I see problems when on LTE.
anybody has the similar issues?? any suggestions?
many thank!!
I am having the exact same issue! So frustrating, I don't want to use 3g if we should be on "Full speed 4G LTE for up to 3GB"!
tried so many different APN's, no luck can't get over 2.5mbps with any of them
I would be happy with anything that works right now. the service is just NOT WORKING. I am paying for a service that doesn't work and that's not acceptable.
I opened a case with the help desk; useless. I was talking to people who don't understand the basic concepts of networking. made me add a proxy to the APN; no difference at all.
then I put a complain on Twitter and got some other people "helping" via email. at least they asked for the address of where I am always having problems; hopefully, they check out the service at the antenna. I think it's not a BTS (antenna) issue but something related to their proxy, firewall or network gateway since google.com works without problems!
I talked to a friend of mine who has StraightTalk as well and he said that he had the same issue last year!
I had the exact same issue with Net10 it is so annoying and unacceptable =(
Have you tried calling straight talk a call
U can try this from what I know ur phone gets chooses the strongest signal tower example u are around 3G tower it has a 9/10 signal and the 4g tower is a 6/10 strength it goes with the 3g hope this helps in ur dial pad dial *#*#4636#*#* then Phone Information....Scroll down a little bit to Set preferred network type. I was able to lock in LTE only doing this and gave me the fastest signal on my device hope with works for u. If u can post ur original settings before u change to lte option only on this post so u can always revert to ur original setting good luck.

if I lock it to 3G it actually works well. I will try your suggested settings.
on another note I wonder if it's an issue with the phone radio implementation. my Nokia/Windows phone sees LTE very very slow but it doesn't stop working completely.

Hmmm Idk but anything's worth a try what settings do u have it on already?
if I put it on GSM/WCDMA (so no LTE) data works fine in 3G.
and if I do a speed test in 3G it gets about 5Mbps in download vs 1, 2 or 3 Mbps when LTE works (ZERO otherwise)
The exact same thing started happening to me two or three weeks ago. More often than not, the LTE connection simply doesn't work, and when it does, it's excruciatingly slow (anywhere from 0.01 to 2.50 mpbs, and usually less than 1.00). Do you guys have AT&T or T-Mo sims? I'm starting to wonder if going to Cricket would solve the problem, but since I'm running an AT&T sim, I'm not sure if anything would change since it's on the same network.
Straight Talk support is worthless... they think a factory data reset will fix it, when it's clearly a network issue. I just told them to stop right there and started troubleshooting myself. That's a good tip about dialing *#*#4636#*#* and turning off LTE that way. It seems like that is where the issue lies - I'm having good luck with HSPA; it's slower than LTE should be, but at least it works. It'll do as a stopgap through the end of my billing cycle, at which point I can decide whether to go somewhere else or get by on HSPA until they fix whatever the problem is.

tried and on pure LTE it simply doesn't work. the only way is to set GSM/WCDMA and it goes at 3G speeds but at least it works.
the funny part is that Google.com always works, whatsapp works, googleplay works. so it seems a problem with throttling or filtering to me.

yes. completely incompetent. asked for a supervisor; no way to speak to one.
I posted on Twitter and ST got back to me asking to send them an email. I did. 10 different people sending me emails with conflicting actions.

I have ST on AT&T.
a friend of mine with iPhone 6 down in Newport has no problems. he sent me screenshots of speed test at 15Mbps.
I really wonder if it's some radio firmware issue...
Ironically, I ran into something very like this too recently....I was on an at&t straighttalk sim...lte had been OK prior to me updating to 4.4.4. It was never spectacular, but it was, at least, lte speeds. After the update I noticed it had become really sketchy...just as described, pretty much; even when mine worked it was trash. 3g was much better and totally stable. I thought it might be the update, but long story short, it wasn't. I inserted a friend's sim from tmobile and got full lte with no issues.
Now, in my case, I had been using a shaved down microsim rather than a nano sim, so I thought, maybe that's the issue. I noticed when ordering the new one, the tmobile one actually said htc m8 compatible on the page(plus my friend's legit tmobile sim got good signal and lte so I thought that's a good basis for comparison). Got the new one, put my number on it, and voila! I'm getting on average 20mbps lte. And it's very consistent too. So now I'm on the tmobile straighttalk sim and everything is fine.
Anyways, it's only $7 with free overnight shipping, so that's something easy to try. This wouldn't be the first time a new sim fixed all sorts of weird data problems with straighttalk either. I've been on with them for several years now and this is probably my 4-5th sim I've had to get for various reasons.
So, anyways, your mileage may vary but that fixed it for me. Hope it helps.

it seems ST on T-mobile is not having the same issues as ST on AT&T. the problem is that T-mobile coverage is not so good in my area.
I tried my phone in a different location (400 miles away) and had the same issues.
I've done some more testing.
it is really weird that Google.com works flawless while any other site seems not to work.
activating "save data usage" in Chrome seems to help. however it doesn't solve the problem. sometimes pages needs to be reloaded a few times.
even when LTE works, the OOKLA speed test gives me 2Mbps in dowload and 5-6Mbps in upload. so no matter what, I am better off with 3G.
I found an interesting thread here on XDA. I am not rooted at the moment and can't try.
<<
If you are rooted there is simple FIX, simple disable FD8 (Fast dormacy 8)
ro.ril.enable.r8fd=1
ro.ril.enable.pre_r8fd=1
Change both to =0 and issue will be fixed.
If your not rooted only fix is to keep HotSpot enabled than data connection wont break.
>>
I tried the hotspot trick but it doesn't work for me
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just wanted to give a brief update. My LTE issues with Straight Talk went unresolved for about 6 weeks despite multiple conversations with customer service. I experienced this in Raleigh, NC, Greensboro, NC, and Virginia Beach, VA. Then for Thanksgiving, I went to New York City and New Jersey (the part just outside of Philly), where all data connections were unreliable. Yes, that means 2G, 3G, HSPA, and LTE were all spotty at best the entire time.
I ran out of patience after that, and since my billing cycle was ending on 12/4, I switched to Cricket when I got home. As soon as I popped in the Cricket sim card, everything started working flawlessly again. Cricket does limit you to 8 mbps down, but that's good enough for my purposes. The issue, if it's still going on, is with Straight Talk and not the phone.
Lollipop Fixed the Issue on my HTC M8
Hey all,
I've been following this thread as I too had issues with LTE on my HTC M8 using StraightTalk. When I first got my phone, it worked perfectly with LTE on ST. Then I ran the OS update that was released sometime near November. That's when I noticed the problems. I could run a search on Google but any webpage I would try to connect to would not load. The phone would hang and eventually time out. Your instructions to turn off LTE was great help. Pages load perfectly provided LTE is not used. I was getting really frustrated and you kept me from throwing my phone at a wall. Thanks for that.
So that brings me to this post. I updated my phone to Lollipop this morning. Thought I'd give turning LTE back on and bam.... works perfectly. I've been testing it all morning and so far, all pages load really fast. I will keep an eye on it for a while and post any updates but thought I pay it back a bit with the good news since you guys helped me.

trying to upgrade to Lollipop. unfortunately I am having an issue with the recovery (flashed from TWRP to a stock that doesn't work with the OTA and can't flash any other recovery -not sure what's wrong).
when I solve this issue and able to upgrade to Lollipop I will share my LTE test results

T-Mobile user, Can't receive phone calls, caller says they go straight to voicemail

Hello everyone.
I'm new here and this is my newest phone purchase after weeks and weeks of research I decided to purchase this phone. However I'm having one big problem. I cannot receive phone calls using the phone. However I can send text messages which is strange and when I try to talk to someone it switches to 2G for no real reason too.
It's fully updated and completely stock in fact just purchased three days ago. I'm wondering what I could do so I can get this thing working again. I have 30 days to return this thing, and I rather not because its a rather good phone and I like it a lot but if I can't get it to receive phone calls then I have to return it.
please help anyone.

Try installing the t-mobile visual voicemail app, there maybe settings in there you can adjust, only if your U.S though.

Alright I'll try and install the T-mobile visual voicemail app and see what is good
APN settings yes? I have tried that and tried inputting a manual one and even the ones on there which has three types of T-mobile settings
I'm not an expert on this but I have been looking for info on this for a while before I buy an A2 Lite to use on T-Mobile and I believe this post by a T-Mobile MVNO customer service rep may answer your question
The TLDR is that T-Mobile strictly uses band 12 for all VoLTE calls and if the phone doesn't support band 12/VoLTE T-Mobile forces it to use 2G for calls and texts. In some areas where the spectrum has been refarmed and there are a lot of 2G users your incoming call will time out before the tower finishes searching for you on VoLTE and ultimately tries to connect you to 2G, resulting in your phone not actually ringing.
This would also explain why there are no issues with texts, since they don't time out like an incoming call. Apparently there is no solution to this if you live in certain areas and use T-Mobile, and it will continue to get worse as spectrum is refarmed.
Sorry for the delay -- I'm technically off today. I saw you question and just had to pop in and answer, because I have a complete answer for you. Your issue is band compatibility, specifically the lack of Band 12. Let me explain:
For years and years, T-Mobile sent all their calls over the legacy 2G network on 1900MHz. Every call and text message went over this frequency, and all T-Mobile phones still support it for backwards compatibility.
Then, T-Mobile launched Voice over LTE, or VoLTE. But, they made the stipulation that VoLTE would only ever work on LTE Band 12. That means that any phone that didn't specifically have Band 12 LTE would still have to use the 2G 1900MHz frequency to send all calls and text messages. Any phone that did support Band 12 could use VoLTE and would send all their calls and texts through that VoLTE Band 12 connection.
That's not really a problem for most people, as T-Mobile's 2G network is still live in all their markets. These phones will connect to the LTE network for all data, but all their calls and texts go over that 2G connection.
Enter the problem: Spectrum crunch. Spectrum in the US is a limited resource. That's why the auctions always for it always go for millions of dollars for tiny portions. T-Mobile (and by extension, all its MVNOs, as we have no power over how they build their network) wants to make LTE the new standard, and push into 5G. In order to do that, they need to launch LTE in more places, and feed more devices than ever. They only have so much spectrum, so they reallocate what they already have to the new technology.
This is already happening with 3G. 2G is, again, just being kept around for backwards compatibility. They take the sectors that broadcast 3G (and 2G) and make them smaller and smaller, so the rest of the room can be used for LTE to service more devices faster. It makes business sense.
The process is called "re-farming" spectrum, and a quick Google search quickly becomes a rabbit hole as you find other people in your circumstance. They put the disused services on tiny little slivers of spectrum, some as small as 5MHz, which without getting too technical, is tiny.
If you happen to be unlucky enough live in an area where they're re-farming 2G spectrum to LTE, and your phone doesn't support VoLTE on Band 12, you're effectively fighting all the other T-Mobile (really any carrier, but for arguments' sake) customers whose devices also need to connect to that 2G network
Add enough people, and you get the problem you're having. A call comes into the network, and the towers go to work trying to find you. First, they try VoLTE, and don't find you there. Then they try the old 2G network, but there's like 200 other people in your area that are connected to that one tower, so it has to fight through them all to find your SIM card number and connect the call and-- right before it connects, the call times out of rings and your caller is sent to Voicemail.
You never get a missed call alert, your caller isn't alerted that your phone didn't ring, and because your phone didn't get a confirmation, you probably won't get a voicemail notification.
This doesn't affect the phone's ability to connect to the 3G network or 4G LTE Bands 2 and 4, which lots of phones support. But calls and texts don't travel over those networks. You'll still have an active, working data connection if this is what's happening to you, which is why it's hard to diagnose not just for Ting reps, but our customers and other MVNOs, as well as T-Mobile itself.
This problem isn't going to go away, and it's only going to get worse as re-farming 2G goes nationwide. It's not Ting-specific. Any T-Mobile device will have this problem if there are enough 2G-talk-and-text users in your area.
The phone in question, the Blu Vivo 5, supports Band 2 and Band 4 for LTE, but doesn't support Band 12, and thus doesn't support VoLTE. This is exactly what's happening to you.
This is exactly how it happened to my S/O. She had a Motorola Droid Mini on Ting GSM that worked great for years, on two distinct T-Mobile-powered networks. Then, T-Mobile re-farmed enough 2G in our area that she started missing calls, texts wouldn't arrive and she wouldn't get voicemails. The key identifier that this was her problem was that placing a call would take something like 10-15 seconds to connect. Typically, this should be instant.
There was nothing wrong with the phone at all -- it was working as designed. The second I got her into a Band 12 VoLTE phone, the problems disappeared completely. Nothing else changed.
The only solution is a new (or new-to-you) phone that supports Band 12 and VoLTE. No number of hard resets, network resets or new SIM cards will fix this problem. You'll have this problem on any network that uses T-Mobile as their backbone, as long as the phone you're using doesn't support Band 12 LTE and VoLTE.

SM-G960F/DS on Verizon in the US

Hi all,
I have in my hands an unopened G960F/DS. I was considering this phone to replace an old model, it's long due. I thought I did my homework and was able to determine this phone worked on Verizon in the US, but a serious note on the box and further research suggests I may have been wrong. Although it would be nice to have new hardware, I am replacing the old one almost entirely out of a desire to flash a custom ROM on it. I was under the impression the lack of CDMA support wasn't a big issue given that Verizon (and everyone else) is phasing out CDMA and the phone still had LTE. Thus my choice of the F/DS. I am informed that opening the box and returning the phone will incur a charge, while keeping the box sealed and returning it will not. I am trying to decide to continue forward and test on Verizon's network here in the US or just return the thing, the choice lies in compatibility with this network. So now I get to play a guessing game.
I find myself in 4G LTE areas most of the time. I want to use data and make voice calls.
This 2-post thread suggests not much can be done:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9/help/sm-g960f-verizon-network-t3856443
This guy demonstrating slower speeds, which I'm not too concerned about, but also HSPA+ in an area he usually gets LTE. In the video description he says after applying a software update it works 'fine':
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pkNXCK2iVO8
This site lists some band compatibility but doesn't say anything about not being able to use it with Verizon:
https://apn.gishan.net/en/apn/verizon/samsung-galaxy-s9
This site also lists band compatibility but warns about Verizon's strict device policy:
https://www.frequencycheck.com/carr...e-samsung-star/verizon-wireless-united-states
Is there any hope to use an unlocked S9 on Verizon in the US? I see this going one of several ways: 1) Everyone works out and I can make calls and use data and there are no issues and rainbows and unicorns 2) Data in certain places, no voice because something something "VoLTE" 3) Absolutely no data/voice whatsoever 4) I switch carriers I return this piece of junk and buy a phone that works. (might coincide with 2/3)
If I end up with (4), how can I avoid this issue in the future? I spent some considerable time deciding on this model, which has the features I want and an unlockable bootloader. Will the S10 have this issue? What about the Note 9? I apologize for the noobposting, and if I missed a thread that answered this question. Thanks for any help you can provide, I sincerely appreciate it.
Edit: This thread asks a similar question but isn't specific and neither are the answers:

I have been using a G965f/ds on Verizon Wireless.
VoLTE, vowifi, text, and data work after rooting.
Having done a speed test with a U device and on the g965f/ds, the speed I can receive seems equal.
I haven't had issues with making LTE calls in my area.

Thanks for the feedback. Are you based in the US? How did you activate the phone? I found instructions on LTE activation here:
www . verizonwireless . com/businessportals/support/how_to_use/activate_4g_lte.html
And an IMEI checker, which fails when I enter what I find on the box my phone is in:
www . verizonwireless . com/od/prepaid/bring-your-own-device/#/checkDevice
Edit: It also looks like they have a second page that checks IMEI (this also fails for me). Can you tell me what either of these pages say when you enter your IMEI?
www . verizonwireless . com/onedp/byod#/
I reside in the US.
The imei of my g965d/fs failed when inputted in to their system;however, the SIM is all that's needed for Verizon wireless to work on it. Initially, though, you might need to insert the SIM card into another imei Verizon wireless compatible device only to allow the system to have that imei in the system for your number. Since, you already have vzw, I'm assuming you already are activated on it with a device, so moving sims is the next step.
Thanks for your input. Anyone else have experience with this device on Verizon's network?
I could have written this exact post.

I am trying to do the same thing with the same model Note 9, SM-N960F/DS. I was told by Verizon Level 2 tech rep that simply installing an activated SIM would make the phone work, obviously 4gLTE only since there are no CDMA bands. He checked the 4 bands Verizon uses for their 4gLTE and the F/DS model has all 4 of them.
I am in the same boat as you though. IF I try it and it doesn't work I have to return and lose $125 or switch to GSM network (AT&T or TMO) I am also trying to decide whether to take the gamble. This Level 2 Tech guy didn't mention anything about having to root the phone.
I would also like to know about the advisability of attempting this. I thought I read somewhere that this phone won't have any warranty in US anyway but I am not 100% sure about that. Sellers seem to want to gloss over that issue.
I'm very very interested in this
to put this to bed, you cant use any F galaxy phone on verizon and get full usage. vzw is a CDMA based carrier whereby voice is transmitted primarily via CDMA and data over GSM (which includes voLTE, obviously). The F model do not have CDMA radios in them. You CAN get data to work and therefore voLTE as long as you can flash the vzw CSC to get the phone to install the voLTE app. Long story short, dont try it. Its a fruitless endeavor. I mean, do what you want, i guess, but dont expect for the F to work well, or at all on vzw. There is nothing anybody on xda or anywhere can do to alleviate that.
I had straight talk using Verizon towers on note 8, my note 8 broke, I missed flashing custom ROMs, I bought a note 9 n960f, read online it would work too. I inserted sim. Did not get data or calls. Flashed custom ROMs found a lineage is rom that worked with data for like 2 min then quit. I kept Singapore rom csc stock radios I guess from Singapore, guy on here said he flashed Singapore stock Odin flash and ended up making his work but didn't work with my straight talk Verizon sim. My buddy came over and he uses visible network on Verizon towers we popped in his sim and it worked flawlessly on stock Singapore csc/flashed custom rom from xda. I switched, it's cheaper, it works and first month was 5$ no fee to transfer my number over. Visible is great, join a group and it's 25$ a month.

AT&T tech support said my OP7T not LTE Compatible

It's HD1907 T-MOBILE. What I need is HD1905. He sent me the wrong one.
I only realized a few hours ago I had no mobile data. I had got calls and texts to work this morning.
After spending 45 minutes on the phone with AT&T they concluded my phone is not recognized as LTE compatible. WTF? It's not even connecting to 3g.lb
I've been buying unlocked phones for years. My last phone was OP5T. I've never experienced anything like this.
I'll probably take it to the corporate store tomorrow but doubt it'll help. Has anyone had problems with AT&T and this phone?
I'm just putting it out there, hoping somebody has an idea...
AT&T worked for me, excellent data speeds, and great signal. But at times it would go from 4 bars to absolutely no signal or data, and lots of dropped calls. After that I went to Verizon, not as good of signal, slower data, but no dropped phone calls or mysterious total loss of signal in an area where it should have been 4 bars.

I'll bet if you look in the settings your model is HD1905 or the global model, not sure the number.
Actually if you could take a look for me and post back here that'd be good. It most likely won't make a difference but I'm curious.

Yes I have the HD1905, but you can totally forget about vowifi with any provider except for T-Mobile. I tried them all, I even had a tech from VZW work diligently to try and get vowifi working. I told him to try and add my IMEI to the approved list, and that did not work either. As far as AT&T, they did not give me the time of day, they just told me I needed and AT&T device, period.

You mean Verizon when you say VZW?
I'm just confused as to how he would be able to add it to the list of approved devices.
Anyway it's BS. If the carrier supports the phone, and the phone is capable of VOLT!/WIFI CALLING, it should work.

Yes Verizon. I have heard hear many times on this site, that phones are blocked from wifi calling by the IMEI, I or they could be wrong.
Vowifi works on the unlocked Pixel, but are they going to butt heads with Google? Volte works fine, I got a network extender, and I can use google voice to make calls over wifi if I really need to.
If vowifi is a must, get an approved phone, that is all you can do.

I worked at AT&T until a few months ago. I can tell you confidently that their tech support is a bunch of dummies. Employees have their own tech support line to call and that one is just as bad. They would routinely tell customers they needed to go to a store to have something done. Then they'd get to the store to find out we literally cannot do that at the store. Stuff like that was super common. One of them even bet me $1,000 that iPhones DON'T reboot when they update, which we all know is all the way wrong.
I halfway think support tells people that stuff on purpose to try to get them to buy something from AT&T. God, I could rant about that place for hours lol

Maybe you can answer this for me. Just because a T-MOBILE locked phone is able to make calls and texts on AT&T, does that automatically mean it should be able to connect to mobile data?
I was able to get it to make calls after a refresh signal was sent out, but it could not connect to mobile data . My sim is fine. I even popped it my son's Pixel 3a and LTE started immediately.
The seller is saying the fact that it was able to make calls means it is able to connect to mobile data. And I should take it to AT&T before returning it. I don't think he's scamming. He says he has the same phone on AT&T. And he's sold Hundreds of them. That kinda checks out based on reviews and some of those people do report it works with AT&T.
These phones are hd1907 T-Mobile but supposedly OnePlus unlocks them before sending them out to some sellers. I sort of believe the guy but is it true? If it were locked to T-Mobile could I get it to make phone calls?
Obviously I'm not talking about a hack. Because I thought locked was locked. Is it possible for a locked T-Mobile phone to make calls on the AT&T network?
Also I got AT&T to make it work but once I removed the sim/reinsert it, the thing displays weird behavior. Wifi goes in and out. It forgets the apn settings that were set prior.

I agree, ATT was the most horrible experience I ever had. Tracfone may have even had a better customer support.
Verizon CDMA service may be antiquated, but their customer service and tech support is 2nd to none.

It should have no trouble using data BUT you'll have to change the phone's APN settings to match your carrier before you can. You can google it and find them. It's not hard at all to change. Somewhere under the "network" settings.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but as I've understood it the phone will keep trying to access the previous carrier's data network, which is why you didn't have data. But as said above the APN settings should fix that.

If I told you the whole story, which started on Friday morning and in the end involved 7 AT&T employees, 6 on the phone and 1 in the store, it'd probably be removed because it's spam. Too long of a story.
But in the end it didn't get to connect to mobile data..at least not consistently. I took it to the store. The guy removed the Sim reset it, turned it off and boom! - LTE, calls and texts. His theory was it takes a little while for it to unlock and get set so when I tried it the other night it wasn't working.
I was happy because it literally took 5 minutes. I ran some errands and was out for like another 2 hours. Everything was working. Some point between the store and my driveway, the signal was gone. I never got it back. Of course I tried reset, remove Sim, reboot, change apn settings.
I called AT&T... the first woman didn't even know what CDMA and GSM was. I politely got her to transfer me to the guy who 'knows his stuff'. He got it to make calls again, but in the end concluded this device can't work on this network. I didn't wanna argue anymore. He had a BS answer for everything including 'If it doesn't work, why DID it work just a half hour ago?'
He said I could try getting a new sim. They have no idea. My son's sim won't work on this phone but pop it in my old phone and it works. And my sim works in his phone. It's not the sim. I know it.

I took it back to AT&T yesterday. There was someone in front of me so I sat down, removed the sim from my working phone, popped it in the op7t... instant lte, calls & texts. The same thing happened the day before I went to at&t. It worked perfectly well there in the store and even 2 towns away but not m my neighborhood which DOES connect to LTE, has for years on every phone we've had.
The tech (if you can really call him that) updated the sim. That got it done. I've had a working phone for 24 hours. BUT no LTE. It only connects to H+.
I haven't had time to call or go back to the store, but I'm hoping it's an easy fix. This has been the weirdest week I've ever had dealing with a phone. I've learned that AT&T doesn't know what they're doing. I still can't believe I needed to explain what GSM and CDMA was to one of the people on the call.
I'm gonna try a few things tonight after work.

I've learned that AT&T doesn't know what they're doing. I still can't believe I needed to explain what GSM and CDMA was to one of the people on the call.
I'm gonna try a few things tonight after work.

Thanks for sharing, but I've never really needed to mess around with the settings as far as mobile data goes. It either works out of the box, or at most I'll need to put the apn in manually on some custom roms, but even that's rare.
How does the info you provided apply to my problem. I know the phone can connect to lte. It was connecting briefly on Monday afternoon and while I was at At&T yesterday, it connected before they updated the sim.
Is there something I can do with this? It's a sincere question. I'm not sure if I can apply it somehow. Thanks

I think his point was to show that the OP7T does in fact work on all AT&T bands. Normally you don't need to do anything with this if the SIM is provisioned correctly.
What are the chances that you are on the edge of the local AT&T LTE signal so it drops to H+ because that's a stronger connection? At the AT&T store the LTE signal is stronger so the phone is favoring that one. Some phones are more sensitive to signals than others (or more aggressive at switching to a stronger band).
Try using a program like "LTE Discovery" and see what bands you actually are connecting to. It can also let you know what is going on in your area with tower location.

I'll try that. Thanks.
That's what I said but the guy at the store said it's really not a stronger signal at the store. Plus I know I can get LTE at my house and in the store because all our other phones connect, even this one, briefly at the at&t store.
The seller have me a code to input into the dialer but I'm waiting for tomorrow to put it in. It's my day off. If something goes wrong it won't be a huge deal. I will look into what you sent at some point though.

Your posts are bouncing between VoLTE & VoWiFi.
LTE bands and VoLTE work fine on Verizon's network.
Verizon allows VoWiFi on the OP 8's that they sell. They will not activate VoWiFi on the OP 7 series, the claim is that the phone did not go through their security testing. IIRC VZW doesn't allow VoWiFi on any outside phone.
