Hello,
I obtained a system dump off the AT&T unit, and I believe I have a workable root method for it. Needing a tester. Any volunteers with review/early units?
J
If you can get custom recovery, root, and all that jazz going on the Optimus g I will buy it and give you money. I have been sitting on my Inspire 4G until quad krait with really new and not just die shrunk adreno became available. Optimus g seems to be the ticket to turbo town if you can enable my scrubbing of at&t's bloatware and some aosp loving.

Assuming the recovery and boot image are signed, recovery could take a while. I'm not particularly worried about money.
Wow will the international and at & T and sprint versions all have the same development? Same ROMs etc.?
Any idea about the Optimus G having unlockable bootloader? Will get the device instantly.. Looks amazing

My upgrade with sprint is November 1, and their release date for the LG OG is Nov. 11, so as soon as I get mine, I'll help with root testing...

Roms will not be 100% compatible across the three. There will be a couple changes necessary such as kernel and radio drivers (ril) that would need to change, but for the most part, yes, development will be the same. If I get it, I can make flashable patches to run a rom from other variants.
As of now, lg says they won't unlock the bootloader and since its not out everywhere, no one has cracked it yet,but give it time and it will.

I opt'd not to post the root we got working at this time, until the US versions start to hit. The Korean variant already has a working root it seems.
Still looking for someone with the sprint variant...

So you have a working root for AT&T LG Optimus G? Im getting mine on release date.
...Nexus 4
The Optimus G looks awesome but I am on the fence on buying this because of LG's track record of updating their devices and lock bootloaders. But since the Optimus G is what the Nexus 4 is based off of, will development be a lot smoother than Lg's other phones? I am coming from the Epic 4G and they had some great development over there because of the close resemblance to the Nexus S. I am hoping this will be the case for the Optimus G.
What are your thoughts?
If we can get around the bootloader I think it will be. Assuming we can and I get it, I'll do some development. (I did some over at sdx for awhile).
I contacted lg about that and this was their response
No, at this time the bootloader is locked and there are no plans for the release of a developer edition.

"At this time"...maybe they'll rethink it. :/
I've been wondering the same thing. My EVO 4G is long past its prime and I'm trying to decide between the Optimus G and the GS3, since the Nexus 4 isn't getting CDMA anytime soon.
The GS3 already has a great development community, but the LGOG has much more potential if the bootloader gets unlocked.

*sigh* I really hope we can get the bootloader unlock. I think LG purposely responded like that to sway you into buying it. They want sales afterall and will most likely imply that they will unlock it when they won't.

Exactly, I was about to get the GS3 for the development on it. But if we can just get the bootloader unlock, the LGOG can be just as great.

Are there any news about that? I would really like to buy the Optimus G, especially after what happened with the Nexus 4...
But I definitely can't take another Optimus Speed like update oddysey. 1 month after the official Google update is out should be the maximum time, until Cyanogenmod or AOSP is running on the Optimus G.
The next question would be: If I order it from the US, which model will work in Germany?

The bootloader will get unlocked, I'm pretty sure about that.
I'm more concerned with the updates, because always waiting for LG to upload the source won't work for me, as we all know how long that can take... Or is this no concern with the Snapdragon and the fact that the G is pretty close to the Nexus 4?

I'm pretty sure we can use the same source of the Nexus 4, beside the camera and LTE, our hardware is basically the same. Like I said, the only real problem will be getting LTE and camera working on custom roms.

If I'm not mistaken, LTE is already embedded into the code for AOSP roms like Cyanogenmod and AOKP, so there won't be a total, ground-up code write like there was for WiMax drivers. I could easily be wrong about this, but from following the AOSP progress on my own device and on the SGS3, LTE progress has seemed to go a LOT faster than WiMax ever did. Then again, it could be because maintainers could use code build from other devices (i.e. ATT One X, VZ/ATT SGS3) and it'd fairly easily transfer, since the radios utilized were the same.
I was thinking of giving LG another shot, and picking up this phone. I am surprised that there is still no development for yet. I'm not to sure that I want to pick this up anymore if it is locked down and still has no one working on a solution.

Wait what? Unlocked bootloader for AT&T version is available? Sorry, been out of the loop, this new excites me!
There has been significant progress on both the ATT and Sprint models, check the development threads in each of those respective sub-forums. Hopefully some of that will spill over into the international section here as well.
Not available. Not yet. But you can actually follow the development of it. And something might be happening tonight in the next 3-4 hours.

There is a lot of progress being made for the AT&T and Sprint variants but I asked on IRC a couple days ago if they would also be applicable to the international (the ones we got in Canada) versions and the answer isn't clear yet. Hopefully that is the case!

Yeah just finished reading the thread. Awesome! I'm going to hold out until the Rogers variant gets unlocked. Hopefully there will be a price drop too. Not that it is currently expensive. Looking forward to getting this phone for sure. I love my GNex, but the new nexus 4 just didn't tick my boxes the right way.
**Update**
I couldn't wait. I just ordered it Plus I got them to get it to me for $49 after a $50 MIR. Sounds like a fair price to me.

I was in the same boat. Though it looks more and more like there's just att and sprint development. Nothing at all for canadian version. And who knows if there will be any development. Ah well there's always a place to sell my phone and get an N4 if I get tired of it. Lol.
Sent from my LG-E971 using xda app-developers app
I am in the same boat (living in Canada), I want this phone too and the N4 didnt really do it for me besides the timely updates and being the first to get them. With the Optimus G being practically the same phone as the N4 I am very tempted to get this but without development for it, it is pretty much the only thing keeping me back from getting it.
I got the telus variant, and god this thing is blazing fast!
And, the bloatware from telus is realy kept to a minimum, only one link to download the app that recommends some apps. So, if you don't want any, you don't have any!
The interface is pretty much like the Samsung's one, but better. The additions of nice features like the menu on the drop down menu, the apps on the lock screen, things like that are pretty usefull. And, they put a backup utilities it there, nice touch!
the unlocked bootloader will bring most likely more fun and more open roms, but as of now, the stock rom is pretty good!
I am remaining hopeful that the development for this phone will come. The developer, or one of them, "thecubed" who put together the "FreeGee" exploit to unlock the bootloader has stated in his thread that the Canadian, and Korean variants will be next to get the treatment. In that order as well. Just a matter of time I think.

Well, from my "diagonal read" on the AT&T forum, it seems they already have the dump.
It's been three months since the G3 has been released and we still don't have a unlocked boot loader. I'm new to this device and not all familiar with previous LG models so my question basically, is this normal for a LG device to take this long to get a unlocked boot loader?
I've had many Samsung/HTC devices and don't recall waiting this long for the phone to take off on development. I do really like the phone and it is a very nice phone but for me not being able to flash kernals, rooms, etc is disappointing. Would like to hang on to the phone but I'm just not sure of how future development will turn out. Just my 2 cents.

The G2s bootloader was never unlocked but an exploit to install custom Roms and kernels was found. HTC and Sony allow bootloader unlocking from their own website. Will there be a G3 boootloader unlock? Who knows but I wouldn't hold my breath.
