[Q] update to 1.32.617.30 - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello, some days ago i found that update is available on the htc RUU webpage from my 1.32.401.15 but no OTA update is shown on my device. my question is, if it's possible to update it without wiping data with RUU update? i just want something like OTA update.

Are you s-off? If not, you either need to s-off or wait until a RUU for your carrier and model is released.
There is more information about updating your firmware in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-m9/development/firmware-t3068243

[Q] Can't flash OTA Update?

Hey guys
So I've been reading forums and websites for a long time now and haven'f been able to fix this.
I have a T-Mobile branded Desire with a Golden Card. I flashed a RUU from shipped-roms.com, then rooted (unrevoked3) it. After a while I removed the rooting with unrevoked3 and flashed a new fresh RUU.
Now the problem is: even thou my Desire does download OTA updates, when booting into update it aborts the procedure with status 7, because my ro.cid still is T-Mobilized.
What did I do wrong?
How can I make it update normally as a generic (unbranded) Desire?
You can't run the OTA on a debranded handset, seems Google changed something in the update ZIP. You'll have to flash the RUU to get it. I assume you're trying to get 2.29.405.5?

This one?

How can I change the ro.cid prop or where is it located?
That's the one, but why do you need to change that file?
EDIT: You can't change the CID of your phone. Seems Google have changed the OTA updates so you might have to flash the RUU every time a new one is out. We won't know until a new update is released
Thank you for your quick reply.
So if I'm getting this right there is no way to actually really permanently debrand an HTC Desire?
How about rooting and disabling signature verification, would that enable me to install the OTA?

No. Never, I repeat: NEVER ota-update a custom Rom! You can either flash a close-to-stock custom rom (and then NOT install ota-update!!), maybe flash one based on the newest htc-rom, so you are not tempted to install the ota update, or install the ruu of the branded stock rom you bought your phone with and wait for the update to appear.

I'm using a stock RUU firmware...
But you're DEbranded which won't allow you to get the OTA. The ONLY way you can get it is to flash the RUU

Thank you for making that clear. I'm really a n00b on this topic. Thanks for all your help. I'm trying to understand,
So an UNbranded (from factory) and a DEbranded (by me) phone still have differences?
On what kind of phone (branded, unbranded or debranded) would the OTA just work normally?
unbranded would get updates from HTC, branded from the operator, debranded either OTA (if they work in future) or RUUs
Hi, i've found this post and I'd like to know if there's a way to change everything in a operator branded desire to appear an unbranded one and get OTA from HTC?
Gold card should do it but other than that no

[Q] Can't receive OTA's anymore

Hi people,
A few weeks ago I installed a custom rom. I wasn't pleased with the rom so I searched for another one and I found the venomROM which I liked on previous HTC devices. Their thread states that in order to successfully use the rom you need to have the latest firmware installed. This firmware comes with the HTC OTA's so I reflashed the stock odexed rom from the ARHD website. With this rom I would be able to receive OTA's and there is indeed a software update button in the settings -> about phone menu. I also read that in order to receive OTA's you need to have stock recovery so I flashed it in fastboot.
The problem is that when I hit the 'check for updates' button the phone says "there is no update available for your device". I'm on 2.22.401.4 firmware and I know there is one available because my friend who has the same phone has got the latest firmware (2.23.xxx.x).
What am I doing wrong causing this no update available message?
That's an ota for the rom, not your firmware. You must flash the firmware. See the guide in development called flashing without panic attacks to upgrade firmware. That's one way anyway.
The firmware listed in the thread you mentioned doesn't match my cid number and I can't receive S-off because the tool to do this says so. But I also read that the firmware comes with HTC's OTA
Yes, you need S-OFF, then super CID, then you can use the thread I mentioned.
You can get S-OFF with Sunshine, but it costs $25. And you need to be stock, or very close to stock rom. A couple will work... Many reports that Maximus rom will work.
And am I confused? You flashed a stock ARHD rom? Cause the "ota" function in roms is to update the rom, not your firmware.
If you can't get S-OFF, then to update your firmware, you need to find a guide for s-on method. I'm not sure, cause I'm relatively new to the M8 still, and have been S-OFF since the beginning.
I think you need to use the proper RUU for your device. Or a backup image for your exact device and flash stock recovery.
Anyway, I'm not an expert on updating firmware on s-on devices. You'll need to check the different guides for that. ?

Well the S-on guides refer to firmware with specifiek CID numbers which doesn't match mine, cause mine is T-MOB003. And that's why I don't know how to update to the latest firmware.
Yup, you need the exact firmware, if you are not super CID.
Not sure how to help with that. A backup image would likely work too if you can find one. Then you'd need the correct stock recovery to flash.

Life is definitely easier with S-OFF.
Well I searched everywhere but can't find exact firmware so far.
I think a RUU would be the easiest option but I also didn't find any RUU for the One M8..
Not sure what else to suggest.
25 bucks, s-off and super CID and you'd be golden though.
That's all I can recommend now.
Unless you can find the firmware.

I believe you will only find RUU for US carrier versions.
If you can't find the firmware for your CID, you will need to s-off by sunshine. Or return to stock ROM and recovery and OTA to Android 4.4.4, if that is currently available for your version.
Well I managed to S-OFF my device with sunshine!!!, now I can update my firmware to the latest version
Awesome! ?

[Q] Check CID failed when using recovery

I converted my M8 to a GPE edition a few days ago and so far everything's been working ok. When I did the conversion, I needed to change the CID (GOOGL001) and I'm assuming its all worked ok as I flashed the phone with the 4.4.3 ruu and the phone then updated itself to 4.4.4 through an OTA update. The phones not rooted, S-Off has been reversed and I've re locked the bootloader.
The problem I now have is when I try to use recovery to update to 5.0.1, which from what I've read, should be possible. before I can select the update file I'm getting 'Check CID failed' and the phone just reboots back to android. I've been googling the issue and cant find anything specific... any ideas?
Given this is happening now, when the OTA update does arrive, is this going to cause me problems?
Link us to the thread where you found the 5.0.1 update zip/file your trying to use.
Why would you go S-ON after being S-OFF ?

Need help updating phone... H3G User.

Im on the same version of Android since i got the phone, the bootloader is unlocked with S-ON and it has been working fine since i got it. I heard 5.1 had been released, is there a H3G RUU for the new version or can i use the Europeon one.. my CID Num is H3G__001.
Because i am rooted it says it cant check for updates, can anyone tell me what i can do?
I thought about restoring the original software RUU and then updating, but what if my service provider hasnt released the update, unless their is another H3G M9 user on the forum who can tell me different.
Thanks.

Your best bet is to S-OFF, then Super CID. After you have done that just restore the newest WWE RUU. That way you're on the latest version and can continue to receive any new updates a lot sooner - none of that waiting for the network to release the update. Especially with marshmallow round the corner.

Other than the way you stated not really. If you don't want to go S-OFF then you'll need to restore stock and update, then root again.
Hey there buddy.
What the chance you backed up your stock H3G recovery.
I flashed TWRP and forgot to take a backup, now can't flash the update.
I posted in this forum asking in anyone had the UK H3G stock recovery but no answers.
Cheers.
