Hello!
I have a rooted AS985 currently running stock kitkat. Like many other phones that are available from my rural carrier, they are basically just Verizon variants that need Verizon variant ROMs, kernels, etc.. So, after viewing the LG G3 compatibility sheet I rooted successfully with Stump and then tried to flash a bump'd VS985 TWRP image. I've tried doing so with Flashify and the ADB method, but each time I boot into the recovery I get a black screen saying "[750] fastboot mode started". I've tried multiple versions of the VS985 TWRP to no avail.
If anyone could help I'd appreciate it!

It appears to flash successfully, but when I enter recovery I see the same "fastboot mode started" screen.
Bump.
Anyone have any ideas of what to do here? Having (almost) vanilla Android on my phone would be amazing.
Have you looked here?
Works flawlessly

I'm only able to select my tablet but not my phone for the download. Phone is still on KitKat, unfortunately.
Thanks.
If you find anything let me know. I tried to flash twrp with flashify but it is failing and I can't find anything to help me.
@BaconBaconBacon - I am facing the same issues with my AS985. When I bought it from eBay, it was already on Lollipop 5.0.1. Build Number is LRX21Y and Firmware is 21A. I was just not able to root it using traditional one-click root methods. Only thing that worked for me was Kingroot.
However, after getting Root access, I tried to flash various Recoveries, including the Bump'd recovery for VS985. I get the same error - "Fastboot mode started".
I thought that this was due to my current firmware (21A), and I was thinking of downgrading to VS985 10B.
I am just concerned about whether or not this will brick my phone. I understand that VS985 and AS985 are essentially the same devices, but just in case.
Have you tried this method of downgrading to 10B and then flashing the custom recovery?
did you guys ever figure out how to put twrp recovery on the as985 i have my lg g3 rooted with kingroot i couldnt get it to root with the other methods so if you have it figured mind helping a fellow partner.

Yes, I was facing the same issue with Firmware 21A on my AS985. I figured that VS985 (Verizon) firmware is compatible with AS985.
I downgraded my firmware from 21A to 10B(for Verizon) Using a .TOT, .DLL and LG Flash Tool.
Instructions on androidexplained-dotcom-downgrade-lg-g3 (sorry, unable to post a link, might find something equivalent on XDA as well)
Later, I rooted the VS985-10B firmware using One Click Root scripts. Post that, I flashed TWRP (Bump'd) recovery, followed by VS985-35B firmware, CM13 (Marshmallow) and GApps.
Took me a long time to figure this out, but all works now.

how did you get it too pass for me it says fail check phone or dll since im on as985a21a it looks up my model and it wont let it go back
here is what i get
I think I had changed the build.prop file. Replaced all occurrences of AS985 by VS985. I had done this unknowingly to make AutoRec work.
I am guessing that FlashTool also worked because of that.

where might i be able to change that
okay i found out how but all i see with the as985 is one thing which i changed to vs985 anything else maybe a screenshot of what you changed may help thanks again!
okay im on vs98510b now question do i lose my root when i flash the new firmware vs985-35B firmware or is the vs985 just the upgrde to lollipop ?
You won't lose access to root.
However, I would suggest that you go in this order.
1. Root Vs985 10b firmware and install TWRP. You need to install a bumped recovery.
2. VERIFY if you can boot into recovery.
3. Place 35b bootstack, cm13 and gapps on your SD card.
4. Go into Recovery, and wipe system, data, cache etc. DONT wipe your internal SD card.
5. Flash the above 3 zip files one by one in a single session. Don't reboot before you have flashed all 3 zip files.
6. You should be able to boot into CM13.

Hi guys i have an LG Sprint LS980 and i factory reseted it a few days ago. After reset i was unable to use my GSM sim on it. Browsed through the forums and found a permanent unlock and now i can use my GSM sim again, however, i have a few problems discussed below:
1. The sim unlock method did not work with ZVE, ZVC and ZVA as i was unable to drag and drop " Property folder" from Carrier to/carrier/ in my device using Total commander from my PC, hence i had to flash to ZV8 then rooted with iroot and sim started working but now after accepting OTA the phone has updated to ZVA and sim still works. After this my g2 started to download ZVC OTA and i installed it too but after reboot my G2 still shows version as 4.2.2 (jelly bean) and as ZVA instead of ZVC. Software update also shows that phone is up to date. SO I AM STUCK AT JELLY BEAN ZVA.
2. In all the versions that i have flashed (ZVE, ZVC, ZVA and ZV8) i have been unable to go into recovery mode via TWRP app or quick boot. Clicking on flash in TWRP App does nothing, while in quick boot my g2 reboots but after lg logo boots into homescreen instead of recovery mode. So i am unable to flash cloudy G2 v 2.2 rom.
SUMMARY
- G2 won't update to Kit kat and stuck on ZVA jelly bean even though ZVC installed via OTA.
- G2 won't go into recovery mode no matter what i tried so can't install cloudy G2 v 2.2 rom.
- If i flash to ZVE then my GSM sim will not work and i will be unable to apply permanent sim unlock as it will not let me drag and drop " Property folder" via Total Commander.
So i am unable to update to latest version both via OTA as well as via flashing (as my sim will not work on it) and also unable to install custom cloudy G2 v 2.2 rom.
Please help out sirs. These couple of days were like hell to me :crying:
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers from the owners/experts.

So your download mode is broken or not? It sounds like you were only rooted. I don't know much on the Sim issue. But you could tot to zv8, and then maybe hit cm12 after running auto-rec.

No download mode is working fine. But recovery mode is not working whether via quick boot or TWRP so i am unable to install cloudy g2 rom. And if i flash to ZVE my sim does not work. Stuck on jelly bean
And what do you mean by "cm12 after running auto-rec"?
That is the problem man, recovery mode not working no matter what i try

So, you can run lg flash tool, and take it back to zva or zvc and root. Use auto-rec to get TWRP. Install cloudy g2. Putting your change in. Or use the flash tool to go to zv8, grab official cm12. Root, use auto-rec to get TWRP, update TWRP. Flash cm12 (lollipop) with gapps. And change what you need to get your Sim working.

Will using Auto-rec be safe. Googled the app and many users reported white lines or bricked phones?

Bricked only if they used wrong one. If you are actually on ls980, use ls980.
Don't use t mobile version because you are using their service on an ls980 phone with Sim unlocked.
White lines is due to kernel. There was the two different screens used. That was identified but auto-rec kernel was never adjusted. When you flash new ROM, kernel will be replaced and that will be fixed.

Hello, I have the T-Mobile LG G3 D851 and I've been trying to find the best configuration. I came from a Nexus 5 that I would either run stock 5.x or CM 12. The CM12 for LG G3 is great but it doesn't have a good camera.
Anyway, I've come to enjoy the stock firmware that LG puts on these phones. So here's what I want to accomplish, however I feel I cannot find enough information to do it confidently.
I would like the have TWRP installed with Stock Lollipop 20b, with root.
Can I just bump a TWRP image and use flashify or something to flash it? or dd?
I installed the 20b KDZ and rooted using the one click method, and that's how my phone sits currently.
From what I understand I need to downgrade to do something with the boot.img so that I can manually flash 20b with a bumped recovery? I'm not sure what bump really is entirely. Do I need to bump all TWRP images that I install? If bump is required for the G3, do they not come pre bumped?
I know that my first go around, I had flashed TWRP with flashify, then installed CM12 without any issues. So I'm wondering if this is just for stock ROMs or did they do something to the boot in 20b that would stop anything from installing without being bump'd?
I also noticed most of the bump'd threads don't list the d851 so I'm wondering if T-Mobile doesn't require this?
Keep in mind I've searched and read extensively and cannot come up with a clear picture of what to do. I've become too used to Nexus devices it seems :-\

D851 has unlocked bootloader. You don't need bump. Just flash twrp via trwo manager or get the inage and use flashify.

Sorry for the nooby question. I am a little familiar with rooting and such but have been in Samsung world with TMo for 3 years. I just got an LG G3 (still TMo, D851) that has already been updated to Lollipop v 5.0.1 (v20b). I have found the one-click root by avicohh, so I am comfortable with that. I have read everything I can find and just want to make certain of one thing. Is it correct that we CANNOT flash TWRP while staying on Lollipop? Do I really have to downgrade the software, then root, flash TWRP, and then upgrade back to Lollipop? Thats what I've read but I am hoping someone can tell me that is not true. I need some good news!
Thanks to everyone for the help and support.

No because the 851 variant is the only variant with an unlocked bootloader. You don't have to do anything except get the 851 twrp recovery img and flash it..

Thank you very much for the response. So can I just use Flashify to get current TWRP? (the phone is rooted!)? So the T-Mo bootloader is different than other variants? My confusion comes comes from this quote below...
"I saw a lot of questions of G3 users about how to install Twrp after the root, so I will explain briefly:
For now, if you are on stock lollipop you can't just flash Twrp via flashify etc like the old days in KitKat, but you can follow this guide over here."
that is a direct quote from this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951. It is true that that statement came from the General LG G3 forum, not the T-Mo forum. If I can just do Flashify or TWRP Manager and keep on going, that would be great. I guess I don't know exactly how I would flash it? Thanks again. I just need a little more clarification. After a couple years I just figured out Samsung procedures! Now starting over with LG procedures. THANK YOU FOR THE HELP.

Flashify still works in lollipop, I know cause thats how I got TWRP on my device and I have done it more than I can count. But I suggest you go to TWRP's official site and download their latest .img for the D851. Put that on your phone external SD then use Flashify to flash that img. Sometimes flashify does not have the most current TWRP img for the device when you download it through their collection.

Yes sir! Flashify worked great on the D851 with Lollipop installed. Thank you so much. I wish the info out here about the need to downgrade back to KK were a lot clearer. Evidently, T-Mo G3 (D851) users have it best. That info can be tough to find. Thank you for your support. I am good to go now!
Hi, I was fed up with my stock, slow, German 855 and wanted to root and flash CloudyG3 2.3.
First I tried Purple Drake lite but it aborted after the phone rebooted. Then I tried LG One Click Root 1.3 and this seemed to work.
Next on my list was flashing a recovery. I followed this: [RECOVERY][TWRP][D855] TeamWin Recovery with modem support and flashed the .img via flashify.
Now the phone does not boot. It says "Secure bootig error. Cause: Boot certification verify." after that the screen turns off and the notification LED flashes red and blue. I tried factory reset but I end up at the same error message.
I started panic googling and was about to try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59970974&postcount=6 but because OP had a slightly different problem and I don't want to make it any worst, I thought I ask for verification first.
What did I do wrong? I stuck to tutorials from the FAQ (apart from one click root which seemed to work). Am I supposed to flash stock firmware via ADP download mode now?
Thanks!

@CutterSlade001, seems like you are already rooted. Did you try pulling out the battery and then powering on again? Once you are sure you are rooted, you can try using various methods available on XDA or try searching AutoRec on the play store for installing twrp. It's meant for rooted lollipop devices. Hope this helps.

Yes pulling the battery does nothing but to give me the ability to look at the error again.
I get that i am supposed to install twrp. But how to safely make the phone operational again?
Or can I only use ADB at hte moment? Yes rooting worked.
Thanks for your hint at AutoRec I will try that once the phone works again.

I presume you can get into download mode? If you can use flashtool to go back to stock then root your device then use Autorec.
Download mode seems to work. Slowly downloading factory image now...
So rooting via one click was not the problem? Not using Autorec was?
I will follow this then after factory flash and reset and root via oneclick?
Thanks a lot for your help! I got it working again.
But now I am back to KitKat and Autorec requires Lollipop. OTA says there is no update and I got all sorts of junk on the phone from other carriers.
Is there a factory Lollipop image I missed?

Thanks for all your Help! I did that and it worked! I only found Lollipop .kdz files so I used the 2014 flash tool. After that, everything worked as expected. I am now running CloudyG3 2.3 and am Happy so far. But I did a clean install with only the bare minimum of apps for now and the stock firmware ran smooth for a few weeks also. Always buy the version with 3 GB RAM instead of the one with 2 GB RAM and a "free" LG G Watch.

Hi, I can't seem to find a TWRP version specifically for the LG G3 Virgin Mobile model LG-D852 (FCC ID: ZNFD850). Which recovery image should I use? I've flashed the Bell TWRP image but when trying to boot to recovery I get an error. Phone boots normally otherwise.
Is this model somehow incompatible for some reason?
If so, is there another way to get LineageOS on the LG G3 Virgin Mobile D852 (perhaps through Download Mode)?
Is the hardware actually D852, or is it a D850 according to the FCC ID ZNFD850 and other markings on the phone which say "D850 0821", and under the battery which is etched "D850"? The mainboard also says "EAX65784001_1.0_D850_MAIN (2)"
(Edit) I have read that it is indeed a D852 even with the D850 markings, but still can't seem to boot to TWRP with the D852 IMG flashed (method is via adb su, dd if=/sdcard/twrp.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery)
maybe you haven't bumped the recovery
try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/recovery-unofficial-multirom-twrp-artx-t3657524
I also use the d852 roger, and this worked fine
Thanks for the reply! I did go here: http://downloads.codefi.re/thecubed/lg_g3/bump/
I downloaded twrp-2.8.0.0_d852-signed.img, zeroed out the recovery and then flashed the image, and still get this error (Boot Verification Fail!!) when I try entering recovery:

I will try the image from your link
(edit) I tried the image from your link (TWRP_Artx-v1_d852.IMG), same issue, boot verification fail.
Do I also need to factory reset the phone after flashing TWRP to get recovery to boot properly? Does it matter at all that I'm using Marshmallow?
Using Marshmallow does matter since all TWRP for LG G3 can only be flashed to a Kitkat bootloader. You can use the AutoRec app to downgrade your bootloader to Kitkat, but the link for d852 marshmallow seems dead (here is the link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/apk-flash-twrp-autorec-thanks-to-t3081396). If you can find and install the app, then you can use it to install TWRP normally. Otherwise you have to downgrade to Kitkat to install TWRP. Strongly suggest you use the TWRP artx , it does not make the phone hot like the official, also have faster backup speed.
Thanks, I've been hunting for this file (wli.arecmm852 apk) for 5 hours now and still no luck, I will keep searching. It is probably my only hope, as a downgrade to lollipop seems unlikely, I can't find a kdz/tot that will flash with the Virgin Mobile D852.
I've tried flashing the bell D852 Lollipop recovery image to downgrade but it always fails. I have the right DLL installed and have tried the LG Flash Tool as well as the LG Update tool.
I am currently going to try to PM @Dene_Bluesman to try and see if they still have the AutoRec Marshmallow apk.
Solved!!
Autorec for MM D852 has been tracked down: https://mega.nz/#F!rtI1naZT!LJIKUVpv8fYjrvhpykA4_A!2o433RBZ
And works: https://imgur.com/a/s7KwB
Thanks, @Dene_Bluesman and @bender_007 and @Never_Sm1le !
I thought I was out of luck, but finally found it. I hope this will help others who are having trouble with their Virgin Mobile D852.
Steps I did to flash TWRP:
1. Installed KingRoot, which rooted my phone.
2. Installed AutoRec MM D852, ran it, and followed onscreen directions.
That's it! Now onto Lineage OS.
Thanks again all!
And in case anyone needs it, D855 Autorec Marshmallow: http://turbobit.net/fg6nmu0ujhpo.html
