New one click root
This method works for the kernel builds dated before June 3, 2014. Thanks to @geohot. Just download the .apk file from http://towelroot.com/. Install it and run.
After 15 seconds your device will reboot. Then install SuperSU from http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu (extract the Superuser.apk from the /common/ folder) and update SU binaries. And now your device is rooted. I myself tested on 4.4.2 locked bootloader and it worked.

I know rooting Sony devices is pain in arse. But this is the only method as of now.
>Users who already have a backup of TA, unlock your bootloader and follow from step 8.
>Users whose bootloader can't be unlocked or those who wish not to unlock, follow first three steps, visit this thread to install [NUT]'s dual recovery.

and flash this pre-rooted zip
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2761662
Follow the steps below to root your beloved Sony Xperia ZL.
1. Download the latest version of Flashtool.
http://www.flashtool.net/
2. Flash the 4.2.2 (10.3.1.A.2.67) firmware using Flashtool. (You are downgrading just to get the backup of TA partition. You never have to do it again in the future to root newer firmwares. If you are lazy, and don't want the backup of TA, just unlock your bootloader and follow the step 7. and face the consequences)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457856
3. Root this firmware by cubeundcube method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559009
4. Take a TA partition backup using the link below. This is necessary for relocking your bootloader later.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
5. Upgrade to 4.4.2 (10.5.A.0.230) using Sony PC Companion or Sony Update Service (or flash a Kitkat ftf. Search in the forum. You will get it). Don't panic that you've lost root. Read further.
6. Make a ftf file of the update files that you have downloaded, using Flashtool (if you upgraded via PCC or SUS).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/noobs-guide-create-stock-firmware-ftf-t2188129
7. Unlock bootloader by visiting this link (take a backup of all your data before unlocking bootloader). (Unlocking bootloader voids warranty. But don't worry you can relock as if it was never unlocked as you have backup of TA)
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com
8. Download the super su.zip from Chainfire's website. Save it in SD card of your phone.
http://download.chainfire.eu/supersu
9. Flash a custom kernel by Gustavo RD78. Enter into the CWM recovery and flash the super su.zip to root your phone and turn off the phone in recovery itself.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2762551
10. To get back to stock recovery, use the ftf file you downloaded (or created) at step 5. above and Flash only the kernel and fotakernel.
11. Now relock your bootloader by restoring the TA partition backup you made at step 4. Your phone is rooted now with locked bootloader.

Did I miss anyone? PM me.
Thanks...
So much work though..
I wish someone could shed some light on whether anyone is even trying to find an easy-root for Z/ZL on 4.3/4.4
I mean I understand it's not flagship anymore but surely it's popular enough??

DUDE! Thank you so much! This worked perfectly on mine despite the bootloader lock.
SuperSU claimed the binaries' update failed, but it seems to be working anyway.

Stuck in boot loop after doing this on sony xperia m dual (C2004) with android 4.3 build 15.A.1.5. (and this bootloop doesn't solve after removing SD , i had to repair using PC companion)
Following are the details of the process i followed:
1)Root using towel root
2)Installed superSU to manage SU accesss, verified root with Root checker,
3) installed Universal init.d to get init.d support
4) moved all data to external/0 folder
5) moved the script provided, named 11extsd2internalsd to system/etc/init.d and changed the permissions(checked all boxes)
6) FAIL, this got me in boot loop on restarting and had to repair my phone to get the phone to startup.
Am i missing any thing..any help is much apprecited
Please post questions in the Q&A section

SUPERUSER MOD for Xperia T3 D5103 Build 18.1.A.2.25 for Deodexed Rom
The Superuser mod disables the signature verification for all apps. After applying this mod you can install apps from Xperia Z1/Z2/Z3 or newer Sony apps.
Please backup your rom before flashing
How to install
Download the SUPERUSER MOD_D5103.zip copy to sd card & flash it from recovery.
For those who have not installed recovery can push using adb.
To deodex rom use this tool
Kamome tool for Windows - deodex tool for 4.4 KitKat
and flash then use superuser mod

1) First go unlock your Bootloader Here ( Official Sony Website )
2) Download the Latest SuperSU Zip File
3) Download any Custom Kernel ( For Lollipop Of Course ) found in the Android Development Section, or you can use the boot.img kernel found in any CM 12 Rom
4) Flash the kernel on your Z1 Compact via Flashtool and enter recovery and flash the Latest SuperSU Zip File.
5) DO NOT REBOOT! Power Down and open Flashtool
6) Select the .270 FW and Uncheck All Except Kernel and FOTA ( Uncheck Final Verification ) here we reflash the stock kernel since using the CM kernel on Stock ROM would cause a bootloop
7) Flash and reboot
or
Install Kingroot on your Computer, root your phone and once your phone receives root access install NUT's Dual Recovery, after which uninstall the Kingroot Superuser app and use SuperSU instead since its less buggy and more stable.
With the first method, once your bootloader is unlocked it is very easy to root your device even when Sony updates it. Personally I used the first method to root my phone
Does the second method unlock my bootloader?

I have an unrooted gpad 8.3 how to get easiest to cm13 have searched the forum but i am unsure how and in wich order to do it.
I have the korean unrooted lollipop. A step by step that an non tech savvy person can follow would be great.
Follow these steps:
1. Root with oneclick root app Kingoroot
2.Install TWRP manager from Play store for download and install twrp
or
you can download it from here https://dl.twrp.me/v500/ and instal trough flashify app
3.then follow this to get TWRP working how to install KK bootloader + files
4. before booting to twrp, download ROM, Gapps whatever want or you would be forced to use adb/micro sdcard for installing it
When u installed TWRP + KK bootloader u wont be able to boot your V50030a ever again only if u do this : With same commands for installing KK bootloader u can install back the LP bootloader through TWRP terminal ..... to get stock rom working again
Thanks will try it during weekend
Took som time before i got time to try this but all went ok on cm13 now thanks for the help upu
