Heat issue - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys just got my G4 but i feel the phone easily get hot just on light usage like browsing the web for 5-10 minutes. Or just watching HD video for 5 minutes... Is that my device defect or what? Anyway mine was dual sim one thanks

Mine doesn't heat up on usage. The only he warmed was on extreme heavy usage using camera with tons of stuff on, or using it as gps.

Yeah this is actually probably the coolest fun I've used. I could have cooked eggs a few times with you note 4
Sent from my LG-H811 using Tapatalk

My G2 used to heat up.. The G4, not so much. It's warm, but never hot to the touch like the G2.

Ok thats weird because mine heated up alot anyway if the phone has auto on feature? Because i just realized when i unplug the cord the phone booting itself

Maybe try a different player? Something is not right. My H815 runs cool.

Mine one also have heating issue. Yah it doesn't become untouchable but the main problem is I do not feel the heat on the back, I feel it in front, so it gets uncomfortable while talking outside in the hot summer days like these here.

too much heating on the lg g4
hi,
my lg g4 is heating up like crazy, specially on the front side which makes it really difficult to talk. also when the phone is in my pocket for over 3 0 minutes untouched i still feel the heat on my thigh and battery drops by 15-20%..... anyone with any solution to this?

Comparing between our Note4, G2s and G4s ... the new G4s generate more heat (warm) ... I can barely feel the heat on our G2s & the note4 is cool.
I don't play games at all. I think the G4s get better over time (it was much warmer the 1st day vs. the 2nd ...)

Please report here what LG says about it.

LG says they have not heard of such an issue, they believe it to be a bad "batch" from Best Buy, I am going to return it today and will report back later....

Only time mine got warm was when I uploaded 1gb on pics n vids thanks to my free 100 Googlebytes!

no... - i mean of course any phone will get hotter when exposed to hotter ambient temperatures...this is just common logic....seriously??????!!!

Did a bunch of 4k recording today and as it was being backed up to my google photos using LTE it did get super hot. Afterwards it did cool down.

How hot does your phone get?

While being used it goes to 93 degrees. While pluged in 102 degrees without use and 113 with use. Is this normal? Just checking
Im on stock by the way.

I don't know, but, I am wondering how long most people can go with their screen brightness pegged before it turns it down to 'keep it from over heating', cuz honestly that's the only thing that I cannot stand about this phone.....it happens after only like a few minutes....it's infuriating. Do I have a bad phone?
So far as temp goes I'll keep an eye on it and report back...now you got me wondering.
That's about the same as mine so i would say normal. I didn't notice my screen dimming.

The hottest I've seen was 104-107 fahrenheit today (this is the second day i've had this phone) and that was when I was outside surfing on 3G while listening to music. I live in Texas btw..so the heat is legit. But when inside and just dickin around doing the same sht, it never hits 100 degrees. At the most it's 95-98.
Where are you finding the hotness number??

I just watched some what the flick youtube reviews for about an hour total, in full screen, at max brightness - trying to drain the battery for better calibration.
The battery temperature was stuck at 31C. Neither the back nor the front of the phone even felt warm.
hottest mine has gotten was 44C
I'm using Battery Indicator from the market (free version)
on standby, my phone is about 26C
light web browsing/texting its around 31C
when charging for an hour, it can get up to 40C
the highest i've seen it was around 46C when I was playing games, then took a call for 20 mins right after.

In all fairness, the cpu was not being loaded that much - maybe only 25%. Most of the video decoding seems to be done in gpu hardware.
I'm sure it would be much warmer if I was playing a 3d game.
The hottest my phone has ever gotten is 118°F and that is out in the sun using maverick pro gps. Normal usage ranges 98° to 105°

i only noticed crazy overheating on V3.. none so far while using the stock kernal while rooted.

[Q] Screen brightness auto-changes without any auto-adjust on.

I have all possible options that can auto-control the screen brightness unchecked, and the mode set to Dynamic (even if it's on any other one too), and my brightness set at 45 (again this doesn't matter as I changed it to other brightnesses), but I still see the brightness auto-adjust from time to time. It doesn't matter what app I'm in, or just looking at the home screen. Does anyone else have this happen? Is there a way to make it stay where I have it set? It's not really annoying, but I do notice it, and would like it to stay put.
I had this happen on the S4 and note 3. Supposedly it's a Samsung thing. I did see this though

It's happening to me I made a thread on it too, I've called Sammy and done everything I could I think it's a software issue or one of the sensors is jacked up. In any event I gave it a few days and it's not getting any better it's very annoying to me so I'm returning my phone and getting another one just to make sure it's not a hardware issue. It's the only reason I haven't rooted yet
Its exactly what you see there TW has A " feature ' that dims screen a bit When Itgets a little hot that ls all it is, not hardware problems mine does It when its hot near the camera

Well mine is going back anyways so i can rule out Hardware failure before i root it, Also when i talked to samsung about it they said return the device
So you rule out hardware issues? Maybe the software like I said?. And by the way Samsung always says return. Everything...it's their go to answer for everything lol

Listen to what i wrote i said im returning it to rule out hardware issues, if the new device does it then its definitely software and illl wait for some kind of an update or wait for a dev to get a handle on it. S4 from doing research had the same issues so yes most likely its software but i have to rule out hardware by returning it and getting a new device. My Note 2 did not do this so im assuming its a TW 4.3 issue
Ok...

Other than that i love the phone , awesome device
In the last week I bought a S3 and a N3.

Returning it won't help. It was happening on three S4s of mine.

Conclusion: It's not a phone defect.
I have done some testing, and concluded (at least for me) it is software/hardware combo as said previously (heating up). Since I have the phone set up exactly how I want it (rooted and all), and I really don't want to return it since the phone itself is perfect (no physical defects with buttons, screen, etc), I kept a really good watch on when it does it, and it only does it after I have the screen on for like an hour or so, and the phone itself gets warm/hot. If the temp stays below 95F the brightness stays constant. Only if it gets up in the 100s I start to see it, so I do believe it's auto-dimming to cool off the phone. I can live with that since it doesn't get that hot all the time. Mostly playing games, or heavy browsing on the web using desktop mode, and when it does do it the change is slight. I only really notice it on white screens. I was worried since I thought it was a defect, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I'm super happy with this beast. Best phone I ever owned.
On a related note I do remember my GSII doing it on TW. After I put CM on it I never saw it.

No lux is not the answer I tried that too. I just got my new phone after returning it and it does the same thing . As BobbyPhoenix stated I think it's software related too and it's when the phone gets warm and I think how much it adjusts is based on how hot it gets. I guess I'll have to live with it because I love this phone the screen when full blast puts all others to shame. Hopefully a dev will have a workaround soon

My wife's S3 does the same on Lux, maybe acts a little different but basically overall it's schizophrenic. It's possible it's goofier with Lux installed. Now there is another layer to manage.

Definitely a screen burn, image burn-in during charging...
(You can clearly see the charging ring burned into the screen)
That's not a good sign... but this is the first time I've seen or heard anything about this, so most likely just a defective unit.
Definitely get a replacement before it is too late.
Someone else posted something like this a while ago he got his from Google I / O. Apparently his developed screen burn-in pretty quickly as well. I'm hoping these are just defective units and not a sign of things to come for all of us.

That looks horrible.
I decided to stick it on the charger all night and its worse (ha!) I'm glad i went through best buy. I'm going in and politely demanding a prompt replacement. its odd, the display seems to have more jagged edges on the screen icons as well as a change in brightness since this problem started.
that sucks man, considering the shortage, I hope you get a quick replacement

Turning the screen off helps charge the battery faster too, don't know why Moto decided to leave it dim...
I called Motorola, they knocked 10% off and free shipping. Best buy couldn't order through their stock system on account of scarcity. I should receive a new one within 4 weeks. I hope it's still the grey band and not the stone leather one. I added more photos of how bad the burn in was.
Yeah, that's crazy. Definitely defective!
I actually liked having the display on all night on my nightstand and using it as a clock. Never had any Ill effects, though
Seems like a defective unit or there would be a ton of people reporting this. Sorry for your loss and I hope you get a replacement soon!
i thought it looked nice as well although it bathed my room in blue light that made it hard to close my eyes.

Nope people only post when they have issues. What would be the point of everyone with no issues creating a thread to say "my watch works fine"?
i honestly don't think he had a bad unit. i think that these screens are subject to burn in just like early plasma hd screens. he already stated that he left the watch on the charger for two days with a static image. that is a recipe for burn in on screens that are susceptible to burn in. after reading this thread i turn my screen off when the phone is on the charger.

I heard that OP3 is good at Heat management. My previous phone was MotoG. This is the first time I am using an all-metal phone. As you can understand, I am not used to.
So, I would like to know if this is normal. OP3 has wide array of temperature sensors and I don't know which one corresponds to the body (some are specified though).
I haven't rooted or even unlocked the bootloader. I did an OTA update to 3.1.2.

Oh.. I only use WhatsApp and chrome.
But most of the heating issue is when I use camera, do benchmarks and game.
Bro, if you're playing a game while using the dash charger you should expect such temperatures, it's normal. And yes, I'm using a LG G2 too and it gets damn hot unplugged, I never use my phone while it's charging.
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
I do experience similar temperatures after using camera and sometimes games.
I suppose it's due to the ambient temperature. Because at night it stays cool.
I suppose it's due to the all aluminum body!
Compared to a MotoG2 and guess what.. OP3 is cooler.
Battery 36C (G2) 31C(OP3)
pm 37C and 36C
My phone gets very hot if I use it while charging (Chrome browsing, Facebook app). 46-48C. Is this normal?
Ignoring the temp count, both the back and front becomes toooo got for my arm that I can't touch it for more than 1-2 seconds.

my phone got hot on stock, and much cooler on custom rom,
i just did a cpu stress test for 5 min and reached 60 celsius. running antutu was only around 40 celsius with a 150k score
Can anyone provide a legend to the thermal sensors In CPU-Z.
For me, some Tsens_tz_* have hit 90degC mark while quite_therm has hit a max of 46.
But I think it's far better. But sometimes, it gets warm in hand for no reason.
I'm experiencing the same problem with heat. Perhaps it's because this is the first time I'm using a phone with an aluminium/metal casing, but it feels like it gets warm quickly.
Even under light use, some web browsing, instagram etc it becomes noticeably warmer. It's infuriating as it feels like if you were to do some really intensive work it would heat up like hell.

My old phone got 70-80 while charging.. that was a lowend one. This beast stays within 60 degrees while charging. The aluminium conducts heat. It feels warmer there is nothing to worry about..

A friend just bought those Electrical radiator cooling fans similar to black shark 3 cooling fan. Works great. After heavy gaming the phone still feels as if you took it out of refrigerator.
He even used it to cool down his beer in between games.
I just ordered mine. Cost about usd7 with free shipping.
I'll wait for it to arrive from China.

The fridge is too big to carry around lol.
I got mine and it's nothing like black shark 3 cooling fan. It gets the job done.
I've looked up jerryrigeverything, the black shark phone has the copper heat sink pipe extended to the outside back cover, using the cooling pad on it will do much better than on the s20. I have no idea why samsung will direct the copper heat sink to.. On between the screen and battery. It's really odd.
Having the main board right next to the protruding camera doesn't help. I try my best to have the pad reach the location of the main board, but most of the time it just cold down the battery.
But it does work though.. the phone doesn't heat up after 3 hours if continous gaming + charging. The gentle vibration of the fan does make your hand a bit numb after an hour of gaming.

? Chill bro.. We all know most android phones and their accessories are gimmick.
I have s20 and it's heating like hell even I open excell.
Do we really need another thread like this?
This forum needs a sticky titled "If your Exynos S20 gets hot, read this" and the first post should explain why this happens.
