Lost root on sd_shadow pre rooted 6.3.3, not showing in device manager now. Help. - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Long story short.....I went from CM7 to the prerooted 6.3.3 from sd_shadow. Put off moving the OTA.cert, and lost root tonight. My own fault, I know.
I figured....no big deal, just use my fastboot cable, FFF and recovery, etc. and back in business. I'm a little out of the loop, so I'm missing something simple, I'm sure.
I simply followed the instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53652317&nocache=1#post53652317
with the intention of flashing the updated pre rooted 6.3.4, but it wasn't accepting the commands, said waiting on device.
I checked device manager, and the kindle wasn't showing, and the drivers are installed from the first time I did this. I ran the driver install again, just for fun, rebooted, and still no show.
I also plugged in my wife's old first generation kindle, and it didn't show either, so I have to conclude it's not something specific to my kindle.
So, right now there is some issue getting the kindle to show in device manager.
It has to be something simple.....I hope.
I don't need to root first, correct? My assumption is, plug in with my factory cable, and simply flash FFF and TWRP, and go from there, but please correct me if I'm missing something.
Any suggestions??
And....thanks in advance!

Kindle was updated to 6.3.4?
Don't need root if using fastboot cable.
Don't need fastboot cable if twrp is installed.

Yes, it got the 6.3.4 update from Amazon. My fault for procrastinating.
It was sitting right next to me when it happened, and didn't realize it. The kindle was sitting here, I had just got a book, and out of nowhere, it re booted, and it was weird....twrp flashed briefly on the screen, and then some commands, like after a flash, then it went black, and booted back up, like a stock kindle. I wasn't 100% sure what happened, at that point, so tried to boot back into recovery, but it doesn't allow it now. I just get the regular orange KF logo when booting, the blue/white is gone. Most of the apps that came with your pre rooted 6.3.3 are still there, but the play store doesn't work, for example. So it's basically a stock kindle with 6.3.4
What's odd is that it's not showing up on my pc, and I'm sure that's all the problem is, but I can't understand why.
Windows 7, for whatever it's worth. Kind of frustrating.

Try the kindle fire usb driver zip in my [How To][Root] Kindle Fire 1 update 6.3.3 [2014]

I already tried using those drivers, but maybe it needs the root too. Might try tonight....getting late, so maybe tomorrow.
In theory, I should have been able to simply plug in the fastboot cable, and flash fff and twrp, and so on and so forth, yes?
Also.....would I still use the fastboot cable after rooting it with saferoot?

Rooting it now, while watching your youtube video. No option to install GAPPS from KFU, and I downloaded 0.9.9. I guess that's no big deal, right?
And, when this is done, will I install FFF and twrp manually?

# 1 in the KFU was bootmode menu, nothing to do with Google apps, or any of the other things listed on that video.

Never mind.....getting late. I just realized you have to do extras first (#6). Sorry.

Got to the fastboot devices step, and no return code, and tried your instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54156851&postcount=7 and still no luck.
After that first code, I got waiting on device.
It's not showing up up in device manager as Android phone, or unknown device. Just doesn't make sense to me.
Seems like I've tried all the drivers. I must be missing something.....very strange.

It gets even better....now it appears to be stuck in fastboot. It won't boot up. Stuck on the KF logo, no animation. No idea how the hell that happened.

I can try my laptop. Maybe tomorrow, it's too late, and I'm getting sort of pissed now. Need to walk away.
I could simply put KFU on my laptop, and run the install drivers file on that, and see if it shows up, correct?

Sooo, back at it. Got busy for a couple days.
I installed KFU and the USB drivers on my laptop. Installed the drivers, restart...and had the Kindle plugged in. Upon restart, it installs the drivers, and for whatever reason, the Kindle has the swipe screen showing. Kind of weird, so I think maybe I can reboot it, and by a stroke of luck, the option to boot into recovery will appear again. Wishful thinking, I know. Nope. Boots into fastboot, and there it stays. Here's where it gets weird....it will not show up in device manager with regular usb cable, but if I plug it in with my fastboot cable it shows as an Android phone, as it should. It's stuck in fastboot mode, no matter what, but only shows when connected with fastboot cable.
So....do I follow the instructions for flashing fff and twrp using a factory cable or??? Since when it got stuck, I was trying to issue fastboot commands manually. I feel I have no choice, but curious what someone much more knowledgeable thinks I should try.

Sorry....the KF swipe screen, and the orange and white KF logo, no animation. That is where it sits right now, but only shows on my laptop while connected via fastboot cable, which seems odd, but I'm better off now than the other night. At least I think so. I've got a pulse.

Should I just try flashing twrp and fff with fastboot cable??

[Q] Kindle Fire 2 completely bricked after flashing wrong bootloader.

Hi. So the other day I installed TWRP on my Kindle Fire successfully. The KF was at 10.2.6, I'm not sure if that means it's a Kindle Fire 2 or not. Anyways, when I went to flash FFF, I stupidly flashed the .zip as a bootloader, thus making my Kindle Fire completely unusable. When I press the power button, nothing at all happens. Nothing I do will make the screen turn on or the power button to flash in any way. I've tried using Firekit with usbboot and the shorting trick, but that hasn't worked for me. (I just installed stock Ubuntu to a flash drive with the fk file on root, I'm fairly certain that's all that needed to be done?)
Anyways, my Kindle is unresponsove, and the usbboot trick has yet to work for me. I really want to save this guy. I've heard the KF cannot be completely bricked through software/flashing. I hope it's true! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
if that is your software version then yes you have kindle fire 2, i'd wait for someone with more experience on here to post, but it sounds to me like you are going to need a factory cable

Thanks fro replying. I'm pretty sure a factory cable only puts it into fastboot if you have a working bootloader. I don't, so I don't think it would work.
I remember an instance where a friend of mine had a broken bootloader, and we used a factory cable to restore it, this was on the kindle fire. we had to first reflash the bootloader. I hope this is possible here.

but you'll have to ask someone with more experience than me sorry.

I think you need a Factory cable to recover.
If you connect the Kindle to the PC and try adb devices in a terminal window, what do you see?
From the software version, you have KF2, as such you need to use the tools and ROMs from the KF2 threads. You could try to use the one click freedom boot and TWRP installer, to see if you can get that on.
From there you would probably have to push one of the 10.1 ROMs on, or the 10.2.6 recovery image, and then start again.
This seems to be happening a lot, and could be avoided if people read a bit more before using the wrong tools.

Howdy. I just fashioned a factory cable, just jumping +5V to pin 4, right? It seems to be doing absolutely nothing. No lights or anything are turning on. The freedom boot just spits out "error: device not found" and hangs on "Pushing Stack". Again, I was under the impression that the factory cable only made it boot in fastboot if you already have a working bootloader. I'll try loading into Ubuntu and see what it says in terminal. Thanks
EDIT: So, when I type adb devices into terminal, I get:
The program 'adb' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb
You will have to enable the component called 'universe'
Could this have been my problem to begin with?
EDIT 2: Well, I installed ADB. There are no devices found when I enter that command, and the shorting trick with still doesn't work. Ugh.

Leave your Kindle plugged in for an hour using the normal cable, as it may be totally flat.
The attached diagram shows what pins need joining. If you can, make sure none of the other pins are shorting.
Hold the power button for 20 seconds, plug in your fastboot cable, power on the Kindle.
You should see some traffic lights on the screen.
If you can get fastboot enabled, you should be able to push the correct partitions back on using the partitions from the factory restore image, your backup files or from the recovery thread. Hope you get it running.

I tried the fastboot cable out on a working Kindle Fire, and it worked correctly, so I did wire it right. I did as you said, holding the power button down and then plugging in the cable, and nothing happens still on the KF2. I have access to the insides, should I unplug the battery? It should be around 85% charged. Thanks again.
Edit: BIG NEWS~ Not really. When I plug the Kindle Fire with the fastboot cable into Windows, it appears under Device Manager as "Unknown Device" with a yellow triangle, but nothing shows up on the Kindle, no lights or anything. Hmph.

In my case, I did by accident because it wasn't clear to me which KF generation I had (I've bricked mine just after christmas). These forums were not really clear either, I had a Kindle Fire so I just looked for a KF guide. After I bricked it I found out my device was a second generation Kindle Fire.

Nothing whatsoever.
I can't really send it back to Amazon, because of two reasons:
1) I already opened up the back
2) It was gifted to me from the US, and there is no Dutch Amazon, so I'd have to send the device back to the person who gifted to me, that person has to mail it to Amazon from there, and the replacement device has to come back the same way (via that person). That's not a situation I'd like to put that person in.

kindle fire 2
flashed wrong bootloader (fff)
no power
no lights
no adb
shorting trick is not working for me :crying:

Stuck in the orange boot loop and can't access ADB, TWRP or USB etc.

Now I'm in an even worse position to further prove my dopeyness. :crying: I installed CM10 and GAPPs in the root of my KF2. Went to do the wipes as instructed and then I couldn't get those files or access my KF2 via ADB or USB and I was stuck in TWRP with no OS. I couldn't do a sideload ADB through TWRP or Terminal Emulator since they couldn't find the device. FYI I successfully installed the drivers by restarting my Win8 computer and going through without signing drivers, but the device still wouldn't show up anywhere.
After that nightmare, I shut my KF2 down to do some work and then when I started it back up again, I was stuck in the dreaded orange Kindle Fire bootloop and I can't get into TWRP, ADB or anything else.
Any thoughts?

Do you have a Kindle Fire 2 (this is the kf2 forum)? KFU only works on the KF1.
Time to start reading. Too many people doing things like this lately..
Don't use ANYTHING made for the KF1 on the KF2!

Thanks. I guess I'll order one.
Before I do that, is there anything else that can be done without getting the cable? Believe me, I searched and read everything I could find on the problem, but since I can't get into ADB or TWRP due to the lovely bootloop (and no OS), my options look very limited.
The super sad part is my KF2 was working great for around 1/2 hour, but I got greedy and wanted JB.
BTW if it might be my only hope, is there an easy way to disable Android SDK as pointed out in the First Aide thread since uninstalling seems like a pain?

Your only choice left is to get the fastboot cable. No Adb, recovery OR ROM....
Not sure why you need to disable the SDK or what to do, since I've never used it on windows. I just use the files I need (adb and fastboot) and installed the drivers specific to this device. I've only used the SDK on Linux

Thanks. I figured, but I could dream. To quote the First Aide link you provided:
To keep your Kindle safe, we have integrated this feature into our software, You do not need any command line knowledge, just as simple as 1, 2, and 3.
Prerequisites for the Recover Options:
1. Install The Latest Version Of Java SE: Java SE Development Kit 7u13

I don't know. Ask in the thread. The OP likes to help and communicates way more clearly than me. I'm sure he can tell you how to disable or remove it.

[Q] Can not get y Kindlefire to work

Hi all,
As a prerequisite to this, I don't know much about Kindle fires but I am tech savvy. That being said, my fiancee's mom gave her a broken kindle fire for free so assuming it's fixable, free kindle fire for us. After doing a lot of research I believe it to be in a bootloop. I've installed KFU and got the drivers.bat file to work (which took a long time). But now the ADB status is offline and the boot is unknown. When I go into my device manager there isn't even an android device on it. So I'm stuck here. If anyone has any suggestions I would be forever thankful.
Thanks all,
Keeps.
There are two methods to fix this:
1. Use soupkit
2. Use a factory cable to boy into fast not and use a USB cable for flashing a recovery

Thanks for the reply!
Can you further explain the second option as if I was 5 years old. Because I'm lost trying to decipher it. As for option 1 I really don't want to have to install linux.
And you called yourself a tech savvy...oh, the irony.

Hi Damystica,
Thanks for the reply. As you can see in my original post at the top I also stated I knew next to nothing about Kindle fires. Just because I'm tech savvy does not mean I know every term ever used by people talking about a product I stated I know nothing about. But thank you for your kind input on the thread and have a great night.
Thanks,
Keeps

Thanks Andro, I'll have to get my hands on a factory cable once I get my paycheck.
P.S. I discovered something new about the Kindle today. IT only boot loops when plugged into a wall, when plugged into my computer it only glows orange on the charger light but doesn't loop. Tonight I left it plugged into a wall just to see what would happen when I woke up it was sitting on at the unlock screen. When I unlocked it worked for about ten seconds before restarting itself and going back into a bootloop.
Which ROM are you runninf

BTW are you sure its a first gen kindle?
Sent from my finger to your face
I honestly have no idea. The Kindle was given to us in this broken state and I've never used it before. I'm not able to get my computer to recognize it either. So I'm basically lost on any information other than it's a first generation Kindle Fire.
Yes, I'm sure it's first gen.
Do you remember the lock screen?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
All I really remember about it was it flashes Kindlefire for a few seconds and then it's like a darkish backround picture with a long yellow bar around the mid section that you swipe to unlock it. I can try and get to repeat itself to get to that point and get more details if need be. Sorry I can't say much it only stays there for a few seconds.
It is first gen then, but its not rooted huh?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
As far as I know, no it is not rooted.
Anyone have any other ideas. I've doing hours of searching for fixes and nothing seems to work.
Umm... While its turning on try installing a recovery

Yeah. When I was in this situation, it was online for a few seconds while booting up and I installed TWRP during those few seconds using KFU in the dev thread. hope it works.
Or check whether their is any problem in the USB port

I had to install the new TWRP while I was in TWRP, my PC wold see the kindle but would not install it fully.
sometimes, you have to reboot several times but the actual install is quick.
then it reboots and you have a new recovery option during boot

[Q] Kindle Fire is not recognized by PC, even in TWRP

Okay, let's get this party started. I rooted my Gen1 Kindle Fire a few weeks ago and installed Cyanogenmod, CM11, I think. It worked pretty well. Kinda sluggish, but it's an old tablet so whatever. At one point or another, I had to turn the tablet off and restart it after a few days. And then it broke completely. Still not entirely sure why, but that's not why I'm here. Rebooted to Recovery, and the next five hours were filled with failed install attempts, factory resets, full wipes, and mounting. I stopped doing all of this and went to bed at about 1 AM, so it was all kind of a blur unless state-dependent memory kicks in tonight.
Flash forward to this morning, I get back to work on my Kindle Fire and find that, much to my dismay, I can't mount it. Not even in TWRP. I used to be able to, but now I can't. At first I thought it was the computer, so I went to another computer, and that one didn't work either. No biggie, I'll just use ADB to sideload an OS and then I'll be able to transfer files on there. I install the new OS and the Gapps, but it still won't connect. The next 12 hours at this point are spent googling and trying everything.
So now I'm here. I'd say it was because I damaged the USB port, or wasn't using the proper cord, but I've been using the same cord I always use, and every time I hook it up, it says it's installing drivers, but that installation eventually fails. When I go to Device Manager, The F drive under Portable Devices is usually missing, and the failed kindle driver is under Other Devices.
Now, I could just use ADB, but it's just kind of a pain and needlessly obtuse compared to simple drag and drop, and I'm a little worried at this point because, as previously stated, it won't even mount in TWRP.
If I weren't desperate, I wouldn't have made an account to beg and annoy you fine folks for help, but I've looked everywhere else and can't seem to find anything.
Thanks in advance.

Well, I believe I'm using FireFireFire, but what fastboot commands would I be looking for, exactly?

Some people worked very hard to prepare guidance material for beginners like you. So you just have to allot your time and attention reading that.
I am sure this post might help you to deal with kindle drivers:

[Q] Kindle Fire - Flashing the stock ROM failed, is now stuck on logo (bricked)

Started from 6.3.3 on my 1st gen Kindle Fire. I was able to follow instructions to root, convert to OtterX and installed an AICP ROM. I decided I didn't quite like that and wanted to try some other roms. I can't quite remember my train of thought, but for some reason or other I decided to go back to the stock ROM and go from there. I was able to reset to stock partitions and install TWRP 2.2.2.1 and then began flashing the stock rom per shadow's tutorials. However, at about 80% progress on flashing the stock ROM, TWRP froze up. I left it there for a day to see, and after almost 18 hours there had been no change so I did a hard reboot (power button for like 15 seconds) and it shut down. Upon restarting, it tried to boot the stock rom but nothing happens at all.
I've been trying to use Kindle Fire Utility, and Kindle Fire Unbrick Utility, but neither are able to locate the device. I can hear my computer detecting it though, when I plug in and reboot I get the notification sounds that a device is being plugged/unplugged. [edit] It is listed in Device Manager, as Android Phone > Android ADB Interface. But still, no utility like adb, KFU or anything else is able to see the device.
Any thoughts on what I could do to get back to any usable state here? Thanks in advance.

The unbrick utility doesn't work with 6.3.3.
You can't boot to stock if install fails.
Which bootloader? Can you boot to twrp?

Did not realize that about Unbrick, that explains some things.
I've since gotten over this hump and am now working on different issues. I could not get to a bootloader or recovery at all, until I got a fastboot cable. That changed the device listing on my PC to "Android Composite ADB Interface", and then it was recognized by adb and fastboot, which allowed me reflash a bootloader and TWRP, and get it back to booting into the loader instead of the failed stock ROM installation.
Need some help please
Hi, I have a kindle fire 1st gen. The problem is like this, I can`t get into recovery, I can`t get into OS wich is custom, it is stuck at booting. In device manager I can`t see the tablet/kindle/Amazon Kindle/Android phone. When I restart the tablet right before "booting"for a few second appears in Device Manager as Android Phone. The kindle is white and the fire is blue.
Please give me some piece of information about restore it to original. (windows 8.1 x64, twrp 2.8.5 - and I tried to push a lower version but I dont know if it succeded)
Thank you very much!

Hi, thank you for your input.
After I connect to wall charger, the tablet powers up, and I can select recovery or normal. Either one I select nothing happens, keeps saying booting.
