[Q] Auto rotate and gestures are not working anymore - One (M9) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've recently updated to ARHD 7.1 with new firmware base 1.40.401.5. i updated my firmware, clean flashed etc but I am suffering from lack of auto rotate (in gallery or chrome or anywhere) and i seem to have lost the dot view gestures as well as regular taps to wake up screen. my auto-rotate settings are on of course. i somehow deleted my previous nandroid backup and cannot go back to previous rom with base 1.32.417. What am I missing ?

I had some problems with auto-rotate before as well.
Try G-Sensor Calibartion and see if both bubbles move.
My top bubble was stuck when i checked mine. However, after a few days it fixed itself for no reason.

Thx, i,ve actually been testing the g-sensor and my diagnostic test has failed...numerous times. i'm off to repair center

[Q] Auto-rotate not working

I dropped my G2 a while back and the screen cracked but still worked fine. I just got the digitizer replaced today, which I ordered on eBay and had installed locally. Everything works except for the auto-rotate function. Here is what I've tried:
Settings-->display-->auto-rotate screen is checked
I did a factory reset of the phone
The phone rotates to landscape mode ONLY when I use the keyboard
Any ideas?
Just throwing this out there but try going into Cyanogenmod settings>user interface> than scroll towards the buttoma nd see if 90 and 270 is checked. Might help and maybe try a game that uses the accelerometer to test if yours is broken? Not a expert on this kind of thing but just my advice to see if you track the source of the problem. And i am only assuming that you haev cyanogen
Thanks for the info, not rooted right now though.
Just went into Google Sky Maps and it doesnt rotate at all. Is there anywhere in settings to calibrate the accelerometer? Wondering if it's a problem with the new digitizer I got...
I've had a similar prob with 2 NIB G2's. It showed up after the OTA, Pre OTS, everything was fine, after, landscape only works with certain apps and games. I just live with it for now.
i'm bumping this. i am not rooted (yet) and have this same issue. wondering whether to do a factory reset or no...?
I purchased the Desire Z/G2 3 days ago now and I believe that the auto-rotate feature was first working on the home-screen. Now after 3 days it doesn't auto-rotate on the home-screen, but is fine with all other apps.
Is this a common problem as I feel to return the handset. I've already performed a hard reset but to no avail
Has anyone fixed this?

Desire Z or G2? The software is different, so you need to tell us which one you have.
If its the Desire Z, the Sense home screen does not auto-rotate (by design), and you are remembering it wrong (but it will rotate when you open the keyboard). Don't know about the G2, since I own the DZ.
Thanks Redpoint. I own the Desire Z, I managed to install an ADW theme and the auto-rotate feature seemed to work. So you are correct...wow my memory is alluding me.

[Q] T-Mobile S4 (M919) after 4.4.2 update won't rotate screen

Even when I toggle the screen rotate button in quick settings or the display settings, the phone seems to be stuck in portrait view. Can't get landscape view to after ever since I update from 4.3 to 4.4.2. I've tried rebooting multiple times.
I have the official TW ROM (albeit rooted with CF).
Anyone experiencing this same issue?
Solved
FYI, After some research I found a solution.
The issue has to do with deleting Samsung Hub app (instead of just freezing), which seems to break screen rotation. I copied the steps in the link below to copy libgnustl_shared.so into system/lib, set permissions, and reboot.
BAM! Screen rotation now works.

[Solved] Sensors not working

Hello,
my wife and I both have a Pixel C because it is very convenient for surfing etc.
Yesterday I realized the ambient light sensor on mine stopped working (adaptive brightness not working) and today on my wifes Pixel nearly all sensors stopped working (screen rotation, compass, ... not working).
Using the app "Sensors Multitool" on her tablet I only get those menu entries: "Battery", "WIFI", "Light" and "Distance" (translated names from german). Those are all working.
On my own Pixel I get many more (e.g. Gyroscope, Acceleromator, ...). Light and distance are shown but both receive no useful/no values from the sensors. All others beside of those two are working.
I already tried to factory reset and wipe cache on my wifes tablet - not working
Any further ideas? To me it sounds like hardware defect on both tablets..
There was an update to the secondary processor (EC) code with the Feb OTA, so its possible that its a software glitch - assuming you have updated. Judging from the current known issues, there seems to be some source of variation which makes testing some of this software tricky...
I flashed the old version (6.0.1 (MXB48J)) but sadly it didn't work I guess this also downgrades the code for the EC? Any further ideas? Looks like we've got to send both of them back for a replacement....
Flashing the latest Android N Dev Preview fixed the sensors for me!!
My wifes Pixel got replaced without any problems So everything good from our side.

camera became super slow

Hello guys,
I'm writing here because I've been running some frustrating problems with the htc camera application on my M8.
I run stock firmware, stock rom. never did any kind of flashing-modding or whatsoever, although I am not completely sure since it is a second hand phone. When i got it, it came on kitkat. I then upgraded directly to marshmallow.
Here are my actual software information: Android 6.0 / Software number: 6.16.708.1 / Kernel Version: 3.4.0 [email protected] #1 SMP PREEMPT. Build number: 6.16.708.1 CL683910 release-keys.
I used the phone for one month without a problem. Then, for roughly two weeks my phone run minor random crashes with a very weird soft reset of certain application setting after the reboot. I.E: I had to log back again on all my app which required log in: spotify, wechat, even whastapp once, etc. Every time the home screen would show me the "how-to-use" tips as if it was the very first time I run the phone.
The camera became unusable: once opened, every button on screen was unusable. It didn't take photo, it didn't go to settings. nothing of nothing. It couldn't even show the bottom buttons for returning back to the home screen or managing the multi task. The whole interface seemed to be completely unresponsive.
Two days ago, I decided to factory reset through the recovery and reinstall everything.
Everything seemed fine.... but the camera.
It takes litteraly ages (7s more) to save photos. The interface is super laggy, I have to wait sensible seconds to go to settings or switch the camera mode. It is not as bad as it was before the reset, but it still unusable.
I have to mention that I have an sd card formatted as internal storage. However, since the problem persists, I formatted as portable and eventually I removed it completely. Despite this, the camera still does not work properly.
I tried to wipe the cache of the phone from the recovery. Nothing changed.
I also tried to run the phone in safe mode to see whether it was due to some application conflict. Problem still persists.
I am so frustrated, I really want my camera to work back again. I mean, I need it because I love taking picture with this phone ( I often go for photo shooting at night) and the htc camera application gives you a great Manual Mode which I cannot find in other 3d party applications.
Do you have any idea of what it might be?
Many thanks for having spent time reading this post.
I hope you can give some good feedback on this.
Cheers!
I have ran into the same problem. I even did a fresh install of viper rom. And still very slow.
This started happening less than a week ago.
Good afternoon,
The same problem occured to me last week.
This problem started after I restored apps from titanium backup.
I can point our how.
But.. After fresh wipe, all caches cleared. Camera seems to work fast again, no lag.
So check your phone space.. Free ram available.. And your use of titanium backup.
That helped me.
Let me know if this does something.
Regards,
WyCkson
I have the same problem it just started yesterday.
at the moment im using a another application to use the camera.
i want the stock camera working.
i have enough space and enough Ram.
why is it that the camera is so laggy.

OK a fresh install of viper and camera works fine, after updating from the play store the camera is slow. I don't think this is a titanium backup issue, I think it's a new update for something on the device that's interfering with the camera
Fresh install again, removed Titanium Backup. Downloaded selected system Google apps and all HTC apps except for sense home. Camera worked fine. Restarted for the lock screen update and now the camera lags. Trying to figure out which app is doing it.

After some 'auto updates', my camera started lagging huge ammount ~ 6 secs. plus other stuff. . .
Sounds like the same problem. Please post if you find out what's causing it.
same here
I just noticed crazy camera lag this morning (seemed to be working fine just yesterday). The Camera app was updated 6/23, so I assume its that. Can't find any other HTC apps that have recently updated; and no recent changes to the phone (Titanium restores or anything like that). Been on the same build of S.ROM for over a month, with no previous issues.
same here! ...
Hey guys I found your page during my research, since last night I cannot use my camera properly as you said huge lags occur and until that moment I cannot find a proper solution. But at least I found! The source of our problem is HTC SPEAK app. When I uninstall the app's updates camera became more stabyl and my phone's getting warm issues solved!
Good luck.
Found Solution(s)
For me, its HTC Speak app. If I uninstall updates for this App, Camera is back to normal.
But there is workaround even when recent update for this App is installed.
Turn On Camera App, go to Settings-Camera Options-Voice Capture. Turn it ON, download language pack when asked and than use Speak App for Camera or turn it off (as I did). Camera is working like it should either way

Thanks, this solved my problem with the camera lag.
The same thing effects the 'Motion Launch Gestures' in Settings (Display & gestures). For some reason, it also uses language pack, same as camera app.

Are you trying to uninstall the Speak updates, or the Camera app workaround in Post #12?
If you are trying to uninstall updates, you can find the app in phone settings under Settings>Apps>Speak. But for me, the option to uninstall updates is grayed out, and cannot be selected.
For the workaround: when you select "Voice Capture" in Camera app Settings, it will ask you to update the language pack. Select to update it. Then, once that is updated, the camera will work fine. You can leave "Voice Capture" on, or turn it off in Camera app settings; either way, the camera should work fine now.
The option to uninstall updates was also greyed out for me, but you can select the menu icon in the top right corner of the Speak app settings to make that option available. I did this and yes it did fix the laggy camera issue but did not fix the non-functioning gesture control. The workaround that 3alfa3 provided fixes both issues.
Thank you to everyone who has helped resolve this issue as HTC support were as much use as (insert your own witty line...)

I can confirm it worked for me too.
Enabled voice capture after couple of lags, and just hit the download button. Couple of seconds later baaam! Solved.
But Its really strange reason to lag. Curious about how you figured it out tough..
Many thanks.
Just uninstall HTC Speak ... i test this on 3 devices ...
Same problem here.

When will HTC wake up and fix this?

Weird issue: Quick Settings not accessible when apps are open

I have a strange issue. My quick settings are not accessible when using any apps. I can Swipe down from the home screen and access them easily, but when I open an app and try to swipe down it does not work. Attached is a short video (zipped mp4). I had the phone come from repairs due to charging port damage and had loaded stock software through Odin. I wiped the cache and reset twice after that. All touches are also being registered properly. I am on latest July 1 patch on A50. And here is a similar issue posted on One Plus forum: https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...-settings-not-working-in-opened-apps.1093999/
Tried this as well, but issue still persists.
Any solutions?
