[Q] Going from CM12 back to Touchwiz: Bootloop - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone tried going back to a Touchwiz ROM from a CM12 ROM on the note 4? I get stuck in a boot loop everytime. IF anyone could point me in the right direction in would be greatly appreciated.
Using TWRP:
wiped: System/data/dalvik cache/cache
Any Non touchwiz rom works fine.

Which version did you flash cm12 over?
Which touchwiz rom and version are you trying to flash?
Did you happen to take the OE1 ota before cm12?

I don't believe I ever did an OTA update before I left the stock ROM. other than that I've done nothing special to the phone

Make sure you keep at least one CM nandroid that includes internal memory backup in case you have trouble.
I do believe you need to wipe internal memory switching between CM and TW as well the the Android folder on the ExtSdCard.
I'd suggest backing up your photos, downloads and have your titanium backup on ExtSdCard, if possible.
Coming back to TW, I recommend the wipes, flash TW ROM, reboot recovery and flash once more before your initial boot. It may help restore TW partitions, if that still applies. Any problem with boot after that, wipe cache and dalvik and reboot.
I wouldn't be afraid of Odin stock BOB7 tar if any doubt or troubles in the process or you suspect a soft brick. But still retain the nandroid and wipes first. Do a full power down, like a battery pull prior to Odin of stock tars.
And if you can't Odin BOB7, you may have taken the OE1 OTA update. In that case, try a TW ROM with custom kernel.

I swap back and forth when I get in the mood to try to fix/adjust the data/sms issues, But never had an issue going back to TW. Did you make a backup of your original rom before going to CM? Thats what I did. Worst case, You can always odin the latest software and that should fix your problems.

I believe you only need to wipe internal storage when going back to kk. Aslo how long did you wait to boot?alliance ROM took a while for me.

[Q] Wipe data & cache via odin???

Hey guys, I was having some trouble with a rom and switched my recovery to CWM6.0.1.2 and it's no longer booting recovery and CM is not working either just getting boot errors with gapps and setup crashes.
Basically I can't do anything with my phone unless I can wipe it and flash stock or correctly flash CM. Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to wipe my rom through odin? Currently downloading stock just incase that may help me down the road.
Where is that stock rom? Looking for it

Download CWM from my signature and flash it through Odin.
Gapps crashing means you flashed a mismatched version for your rom.

That might have happened, I got CWM working and flashed my old rom with a lot of issues, specifically stock apps crashing. Going to flash full stock via odin and start from scratch. Really stoked to try a 4.2 CM AOKP rom :good:
Are there files I can manually delete/modify to bring my device fully back to stock?

Delete or wipe via recovery is highly recommened and flash via odin. You cant do to all system files and delete them individually; thats too much of work.
Everything is golden thanks guys

[Q] Rom Question

I'm having issues flashing multiple roms of the 4.x.x Roms. The only rom so far I have been able to install and actually run on my phone is TweakWiz V2. I have tried many other roms and they just stay in a boot loop screen. Examples are with the Avatar rom it just stays on the mask an keeps going and going. I have tried CyanogenMod/Cyan Kang an it just stays on the Circle with the bar going around on the inside.
I am running the TWRP Touch Recovery. I also have the latest Radio update and everything else is updated on my phone.
I also let the install itself run for 10+ minutes everytime. But all the roms I try they keep doing the exact same thing and staying in a boot loop.
Can anyone give me any tips or suggestions to maybe something I could do to use another rom or maybe even a suggestion to something I may have overlooked.. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
An if you need me to give any other information let me know an I will provide.

1.Im using the latest TWRP.
2. Wiping System, Cache, Dvalik or whatever. I wipe everything in the usual instructions. And I make a backup of previous ROM. Flash the ROM then the G-Apps.
3. After I flash I let the ROM run its course an I wait from 15-45 mins for the ROM to load if it doesnt I switch back to TweakWiz or try another.

try using this recovery since the recovery you are using is the latest one and technically for 4.3 ROMs, give this a shot http://techerrata.com/file/twrp2/hercules/openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-hercules.tar its the same recovery but lower . the steps you clarified seem very proper but your recovery may be at fault crossing fingers try flashing that recovery through odin or download the zip from the same website and report back after trying to flash again
Are you sure you are wiping DATA also?
You will need to do this, if you are flashing a 4.2 or 4.3 ROM, then you will also want to wipe the pre-load. Then flash the rom, and gapps.
Use the newest TWRP 2.6.1.0 to flash anything, don't need an older recovery to flash older ROM's.

Is there a option I'm not deleting ?
Because I've been flashing ROMS on different phones an I have never had any issues before. I was using ICS an GB etc before an just recently decided to upgrade an use the JB (I think that's the name.) on my phone.

Im still here having problems booting 4.4.2

In all my previous posts requesting help of why my phone wont boot 4.4.2 ive never gotten a clear answer or any troubleshooting steps.
when i flash 4.4.2 with any recovery it goes to rom logo and doesnt boot past that. the only rom ive been successful with flashing is omni rom. whats the difrence between omni rom and any other regular 4.4.2 rom/
all i want to do is use carbon kk i had 4.4.2 working once before i flashed 4.3 and the wifi fix and after i flashed the wifi fix my phone stopped booting into 4.4.2 ever since ive been trying to get a odin wifi fix removal for my phone. i want to see if that will fix it but no one will help
also in cwm recovery upon wiping
you get an android_secure not found or somthing like that

The android secure issue you see is actually nothing. It is stating it cant find that directory on you sdext partition which you dont have unless you partition your sdcard.
Now why you cant boot 4.4 is kind of odd. I have gone between all versions for our phone aosp and touch wiz without any problems. I would suggest installing twrp and then running billards back to stock mc2 with counter reset (located in development section). Make sure you read the op for that thread and follow his directions. After flashing that before rebooting flash a root.zip (dont use twrp's root). Once your booted you can use odin or an app to flash cwm or philz (6.07.9 recommended) then you can flash any 4.4 you want. Just remember to wipe/format your internal sdcard (data/media) before going to 4.4.

My phone won't let me format the internal sd card it seems like Its locked or something also I've done back to stock 5 times and no luck
Which recovery and how are you trying to format internal?
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Do what jlmancuso said. This will format your internal sd as well. Just go back to stock unrooted MC2 and don't bother with flashing the root till its back up and running stock unrooted. Once you do that use the Samsung Note 2 Toolkit (version 2 not 3) and choose the ALL IN ONE Root, recovery, busy box, etc option and choose the twrp recovery not clockwork. Once you get it rooted and on twrp recovery, immediately flash Phil's recovery. 6.07 version (or whichever version that has already been recommended). Then wipe everything as usual including dalvic, cache, internal sd. Then flash stock rooted MK4 in lorjay's thread. then use ODIN on your PC to flash the wifi fix. Do a prl and update profile while on stock rooted MK4. Once you are at this point you can then flash any KK rom and it should work fine. just make sure you set your phone down and let it complete the initial boot as it sometimes takes a few minutes to boot. If this does not work then you're screwed LOL. Good luck.

The red additional steps are unnecessary and make little sense. Otherwise, yup.
I'm of the hunch-ish opinion that it is the "wifi fix" that causes lots of these problems in the first place. Most everyone who flashes 4.4.2 builds and that has issues usually share the common thread of having that "wifi fix" on their phone....and that is a hunch, yes, purely on my part. In any case MK4 (radio, ROM, etc) is in no way needed to flash 4.4.2 builds.
I Have done every flash to stock with counter reset. and no matter how many times ive tried it still bootloops i need a DIRECT WIFI FIX REMOVAL
There is no such thing. All the wifi fix is a flash of the param.bin which is in the mk4 odin file. Also those who took the ota have it. It in no way effects aosp!
Are you flashing anything besides the 4.4 rom?

Are you also performing the data wipe and factory reset AFTER FLASHING THE ROM AND GAPPS? Many miss this required step.

Just a theory but did you flash a CM12 ROM? Do you have a TWRP nandroid (backup) of any ROM you knew worked before?
Can you see the Settings/About phone to see build, modem or firmware? That's basically asking if it boots at all.
I ask because I'm wondering if CM12 put you on the OE1 bootloader preventing you from going back to older builds? Hopefully not. Did you try restoring the original backup? What happened?
If you're stuck without a functional TWRP backup, going back to CM12 or Lollipop Noterized Stable 2 may be an option.
If data continues to be an issue, there are some fixes for certain issues in the OP of some CM ROMs. There was a TWRP backup for OE1 but I wouldn't recommend that unless you can confirm your actual build is in fact OE1.
Otherwise, the usual backup internal memory of wanted files, TWRP backups and media to sdcard and thorough wipe of system, internal, cache and dalvik-cache and a few factory resets and nandroid restore or flash a TW build OB7 or lower build should do it.
Be careful because the next move you make could be critical without a PC. The recommended wipes plus Odin OF5 would best option if you don't mind giving up KitKat or passing on custom ROMs briefly. If my theory is right, going back to OB7 or KitKat is already not an option.

d2att won't boot ANY Touchwiz rom, including stock, after having a non-TW rom

At a bit of a loss here. I have here a d2att/I747 that was working up until today on PAC-Rom, then I decided to wipe it clean and install a Touchwiz ROM. I tried S3RX, I tried a supposed Note V port, hell, I'm trying stock. None of them will finish booting. S3RX and the Note V port give me a perpetual boot logo, stock gets past the Samsung logo, plays the sound, then gets stuck at the AT&T logo. I've given each one at least an hour to do something, and they're apparently not going anywhere.
I've tried everything I know how to do; I've wiped EVERYTHING (system, data, internal storage, formatted data, the whole shebang) and nothing seems to make a difference. It's on NJ2 and I even just tried reflashing the NJ2 bootloader/modem, but that doesn't seem to have done anything either. Totally at a loss here. What could be causing this? I mean, it boots into download/recovery fine and always -starts- booting the roms, but never finishes. Could I have a corrupted partition or something?
EDIT: Oh, so I put PAC back on it and it boots again. So yeah, this seems specific to TW roms. I don't get it.
which recovery/version do you have ?
are the touchwiz roms the same android version as the pac-rom version ?
checked the touchwiz md5 to make sure has not been bad downloads ? (i know , far-fetched for them all to be bad DLs. just a thought).
"err on the side of kindness"
First off when you went from CM/AOSP based ROM to TW did you wipe everything but external storage? When going from CM/AOSP to TW & vice versa you MUST wipe internal storage. If you do this & it still fails to boot you'll need to flash the stock recovery wipe with it & install stock. Then Odin TWRP & you're good to go.
You can get the stock recovery from enewman17's NE4 thread.
Just be sure to do your research. d2att is the easiest of all d2's to hard brick thanks to At&t not releasing full firmwares.

Flash slimkat ROM and then flash TW ROM. It will work I had same problem
Oh wow, I didn't mean to abandon this thread. I haven't been getting email notifications 'til today for some reason. Anyway, yeah, I've wiped *everything* including internal storage; I'm flashing from an external SD. Nada. I was really hoping there was some NJ2 Odin-able package I could use that'd guarantee I wasn't screwing anything up, but oh well. Anyhow, I don't have the device on hand anymore (doing this for a family member), but perhaps I'll get it back and try that slimkat idea...? To answer mrrocketdog's question, no, actually. PAC is 5.1, every TW ROM I've found is 4.4. Shouldn't matter if I'm wiping every partition I can first, though, no?

Definitely try flashing the slimkat ROM. I had the same prob as you and read someone's reply about it. It fixed the issue for the touchwiz ROMs. After flashing slimkat go back to a touhwiz ROM. Do this before messing with the phone. I have a slimkat ROM on my SD card ready to be flashed at any moment for whenever I want to go back to touchwiz haha

So do I have to flash Slimkat and then dirty flash TW? Seems like that'd have to be the case, otherwise anything it adds would get wiped away, unless it messes with partitions or something... I need to read up on this ****. That's weird.
