Hi I have the HTC M8 and I've had it since July 2014. In the past few weeks my camera has crashed every time I open. If I try to use it in snapchat or instagram I get an upside down image that is super dark. I am running android 4.4.4 and I haven't done any updates for a while. I rooted it back in January with no issues until this past month. I spoke to HTC customer support and I tried Clearing cache , defaults, and forcing stop the application. Running in safe mode. Running HTC function test All of these ended with the camera crashing. It crashed the function test. They told me in the next 7-10 days HTC customer support will contact me with a tier 3 member to help win my issue because they aren't fit to deal with rooted phones. Also I checked to see a common problem of lastpass being installed but I have checked and that is not installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated

How do fix this ?
Since late Saturday evening, a few people started reporting that they were having problems with the new Android Market. Then, some users began posting on Google help forums that they couldn’t access the market at all. The cause for people on the old 1.6+ version of the Market may be that they were in the early stages of being updated to the new Android Market.
The Android Market is being sent out to many Android users through a silent over-the-air update that automatically changes phones to the new version we wrote about previously. In this update, users see a new Market that has a carousel of featured apps, in-line listing of related apps, and longer descriptions for apps and recent changes.
Several users who received the update began reporting to Google that they receive an error when attempting to access the My Apps section. The problem seems to strike at random without regard to carrier, device, or OS version. The one common variable seems to be that since the latest version was applied – or users are about to receive the update – and then users receive the following error:
“Attention A server error has occurred. Retry or cancel and return to the previous screen.”
This is not the first time that the Android Market has had problems, so a fix will be applied shortly if history is any indicator. All things are clear on my 2.2 HTC Evo on Sprint, but everyone from 2.2 HTC Desire users in England to 2.1 Samsung Vibrant users are seeing the error message. Cross your fingers that the new Market won’t effect you.
And then get use to having only 15 minutes to refund apps.
Hope that answers your question.
im also receiving this issue, except my android market force closes itself COMPLETELY.
I can live with it for a few days.

Yesterday my Camera started crashing. I noticed it first when Google Talk failed.. it won't even load.
When I started looking for the error I noticed I couldn't load the camera app either.
I reverted to stock, re-rooted, flashed 4.0.1, 4.0.3, 4.0.4, etc.
I re-flashed stock *original* 4.0.1, re-locked, and let the phone run through its update process to get to the stock 4.0.2.
ALL fail. Nothing works, GTalk always crashes on boot, and camera tries to open but crashes back to the launcher.
I'm including logcat: I don't see anything other than "Couldn't get camera properties" anywhere (beyond the stack trace of the crash...)

ANY help would be appreciated... seems like getting warranty support for this with a USA address is not going to be easy (couple calls to Samsung USA have all resulted in "sorry, can't help")
A battery pull "resets" the camera.
BOOOO. battery pull hasn't done it for me yet
Okay. Got the phone registered with Samsung UK. their offices are closed, will just get the RMA moving on monday.
*never again* will I go overseas for something like this. Canada would be fine, overseas sucks.
If anyone has any other ideas I'd be more than happy to hear them
I am having the exact same issue, 16 days after I purchased the phone
Can I please have an update on your status?
Having the exact same issues on a brand new GSM Nexus... any thoughts?
HTC rolled out the lollipop 5.0 update OTA about two weeks ago in my region. I've downloaded it an installed it.
Now my phone occasionally gets stuck , for example in "Recent Apps" , it just stops responding sometimes ,and only locking the screen and unlocking it solves it.
But today I've discovered a new problem , when I use Facebook Messenger , the phone gets completely stuck! , it's like working on a 95' computer , where every click makes it go incredibly slow..
Does anyone else experience this sort of issues? Does anyone know how to fix it ?
I've been thinking about performing a hard reset, but I think all my data on the phone will be erased so I'm trying to think of an alternative solution.
Thanks.
FB Messenger is horrible on 5.0.1, I'm waiting on them to fix it as once removed Lollipop is fine
But, personally, I'd backup your data and factory reset it. Best way to get any bugs out left over from the update

I had the same issues. Mine is a custom rom but all my investigation led me to OS issues and not customization.
Backup your data and factory reset. After that all should be fine.
I am using messenger now and working fine.
Try disabling the "NuPlayer (experimental)" in developer options. I have read somewhere on here that it helps some guys with problems when using Facebook.
I won't know myself as I'm not a facebook user in general and haven't logged on there for more than a year now.
Thank you all for the help.
About the data back-up, which way is the best way to do it? Does HTC have a built-in function for it?
Yes, you can use the HTC backup or google sync.
I received my Pixel XL 128GB on this past Wednesday and I have been having constant crashing issues with my Camera. I first thought it may have been the app itself so I tried using various camera apps from the playstore which didn't seem to help.
I tried to delete the app data as well as the cache
deleted any app that may use the camera such as facebook and instagram
reset the phone back to factory twice, trying both the stock and stock updated camera app
I even tried various ROMS like PureNexus and AOPK with no fix in sight.
The error message I receieve is "Camera Error - Can't connect to the camera" prior to that error message the screen is black utilizing the forward facing and rear camera.
I called up support and of course got an idiot Google Customer support rep who could barely speak english telling me that it may be hardware related and that I would it would needed to be replaced.
Is there any other options at this point short of sending my phone back and having them send me a replacement? They are telling me they want to do an authorization hold of another $900 for them to ship me a replacement phone first which is absolutely laughable.

never experienced anything like that. I think a replacement is probably your best option given that you're already done a factory reset. The one remaining option I might suggest is flashing a full factory image downloaded from Google.
IMO, its not all that "laughable" that google would ask to put a authorization hold on your account. Its only a pending charge and is never actually processed unless you don't return the old phone.

I have actually done a full factory flash from Google.
Well when I had financing from Verizon or T-Mobile and I had an issue with the phone they sent a replacement first and I had a time frame in which to send the phone back or I would get charged, they never held funds first.
Financing devices works a little different and each company has their own policies. I haven't had an RMA with Google ever, but with Moto (after it was bought by Lenovo) they required a hold and there have been a few other places that if they sent a device to me before I sent one to them they would put a hold on my credit card. I always considered it a standard procedure. As for the Pixel's camera, while there have been some issues mentioned here and other places about camera issues yours seems unique, almost like the camera component was DOA. I would RMA if it was my device.

7.1.2 (NPG471) Yes currently it work well
The above post has more to do with phones in low signal areas that have the camera freeze up usually with purple lines across some of the photo. That issue has been on going mostly with European variants since release. This does not give the unable to connect error.

Thanks for all the responses but I guess Support was correct when they said it was the hardware. My new phone works without any issues.
The infamous Google Play "download pending" issue - best solution I found so far
I got my Pixel 2 XL on April, and I've already have this annoying issue 3 times.
2 days ago I have the issue again. I've contacted Google many times, and every time their support team ended up advising me to factory rest my phone because all other work around won't work (clearing the cash, Google play service, etc) .
I got so sick of Google ignore this issue, and this issue has been known for a long time.
I literately can't update any app nor installing any new app. I've tried every single work around I found online nothing worked for me.
I almost gave up yesterday and was about to factory rest my phone, however; while playing around I saw rebooting in " safe mode" option.
and guess what, when I reboot my phone in Safe Mode the issue disappears and I smoothly can update all my apps and install new apps.
However, when I boot my phone in the normal mode the issue exists, so I'm living in this stupid work around.
I wanted to share my experience because I'm frustrated and so sick if Google not taking this issue vert seriously even there are multiple posts on their official support website.
Never had such issue.

Life does not end when you FDR... and who knows, you may even fix your issue. Better yet, fastboot a full factory image wiping all your partitions in the process. Back up your stuff and get to it.
I just use apk mirror, in tired of the issue as well.
