Redeeming 100GB Google Drive - G4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I got my G4 and opened Google Drive app and it said click here to redeem the 100 GB offer. Once selected it said unable due to application needed to be updated. I updated and now can't find the offer. How do I get it to show me the offer like the first time?
Thanks

Did you try Force Stop and Clear Data / Cache for the Google Drive app?

I tried that but it seems in Android 5.1 you have to completely remove all user accounts. I guess when I have more time I'll try that, if not I'll have to factory reset the phone

I tried to force stop, clear data, clear cache. Uninstalled the update. Nothing no mention of the offer.
I tried removing all google accounts and that didn't work either. I will try to factory reset next week unless anyone has any other ideas?

Contact Google Support they always been topnotch for me

Also does it activate only once per IMEI, or is it by Google account?

If you skipped the offer, you get get back to it by doing the following:
In Drive, open the menu, go to settings. At the bottom (under "About"), click on the Product Tour. At the end of that tour, you'll be able to accept the offer.

I was only able to activate it on one google account, so I assume it's once per IMEI.

This worked. Thanks for the heads up.

Are you with Verizon?
Just to clarify: this method worked with a Verizon phone?
I have a Verizon, and have not been able to get any of these methods to work: Clear Cache, Force Stop, Uninstall Updates, retake Product Tour.

I think we're out of luck with our Verizon g4's..sucks

No luck with Verizon here either.

I just tried on the initial setup on mine, that's not an option in the tour

Did anyone use with if they already have a promo? Like from a chrome book? Does it stack or extend the length?

Mine is T-Mobile
Sent from my LG-H811 using XDA Free mobile app

I'm on T-Mobile and didn't have an issue with it working at all. Now have 115GB.

I just talked with a LG live-chat agent, and was directed to ask Google. Not sure where to start... any ideas?

Anybody know if this will be offered with the AT&T version of the G4?

Problems with Poweramp activation

On March 10th I purchased the Poweramp pro key and since that day it can't verify the licence, and when I check the error, it gives me Google Play response - ERROR_CONTACTING_SERVER.
I've tried reinstall both Poweramp and the pro key, erase their cache, data, etc. and nothing. But today their staff answered me a mail saying this:
Please ensure you have in phone Settings => Accounts & Sync => Background data is ON (you can disable this option later if you wish), then please start/exit Poweramp (with back button) at least two times.

The thing is I'm using Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and Background Data isn't in Accounts & Sync. Googling I saw it's in Data Usage / Menu (the 3 dots in the up-right side) and then Restrict Background Data isn't selected and Auto-sync data is selected. For me those configurations seems pretty good and I'm guessing the problem isn't there.
And yes, I'm using the account I purchased Poweramp with.
I never knew this would be this hard. It's gonna be 2 months and I must see a great app like Poweramp closing every while because the failed licence check.
Can anyone help me here? I'm getting desperate here.

If clearing your caches and making sure your connection is solid doesn't fix it(I'll assume you tried this while connected to WiFi already), and they have verified your purchase, just ask them to send you the link to the alternate activator download (that you get if you purchase the unlock directly through them, and not Google.) So far as I know, it doesn't have network activation however, and you have a bad install of the unlocker (The Trial installs on anything, it looks for the unlocker, the unlocker doesn't do anything except sit hidden on your phone)
1. Remove your Google account from the phone(no worries, no data will be lost)
2. Go to apps -> play store -> remove data
3. Go to accounts and sign in again with your account
4. Problem solved.

Or simply uninstall the unlocker, reinstall it from gplay, and open poweramp from the unlocker, you're done.

Well from what I understand the unlocker isn't installed at all due to play store syncing problems. I'm 99% sure the above answer will solve this issue.

Google App not opening

Hi,
Google App has suddenly stopped opening in the non-rooted 5t. Please check the attached video. What should I do?
Thanks
Bump..........
Same issue. Checked a lot of forums.. no fix yet, just temporary work arounds. Uninstall or clearing data. But only Works for a day.
I have the same thing......
And it's working again as of this morning!
I'm having this issue and it's driving me mad, the device has FamilyLink on it so I cannot turn off device administrator because all of the Google Account dialogs are broken, can't clear data, what a mess. I'm currently 80% sure I'll need to factory reset (if I even can!)
I was thinking I could maybe get into recovery but it wants a password that I apparently don't know. I tried my google password, my PIN, switching my PIN to a password, and nothing could get me in :s
(Edit 4/13: Got into recovery by removing the screen lock entirely, wiped the phone.)
Google App not opening & news feed not showing in Bing
Hi,
So, the Google app is not working in apparently all 5t phones-
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/help/google-app-t4060959/post82241813#post82241813
Tested in my friend's phone also
Since the past few days news feed in Bing app has also vanished. But it works in every other phone besides op. Why is this issue happening only in oneplus phones? I have sent the devs logs 2 times but no action has been taken. Never ever a op phone again.
Thanks

Question Google's Messages stuck on "trying to verify" in chat features activation menu

Never had an issue with this app doing this before, but here we are. I've made sure my number was correct, and even added the Messages app to MagiskHide (which I've never had to do before). It still is stuck. Eventually it gives up trying to verify, but tapping the button just repeats the same issue again. Any ideas?

It's really annoying I've had this before. What I did I'd clear data cache in the messages app restart phone then do same again delete data cache then open messages app and try again. If that fails then you have to turn chat off for 7 days don't try turning chat on within the 7 days otherwise it resets to 7 days again. It's a right pain in the but.
I wish I had a answer for you. I was having the same issue on stock, switching to global, switching to eu, etc. Just a couple nights ago I installed magisk and no modules and left my phone alone for a bit (maybe a hour?), When I picked it back up I had 10 encrypted messages I couldn't read come in from a friend that must have came in over the past couple weeks. It was just random.

I tried Dale's suggestion, clearing data and cache and rebooting the phone. After a minute it popped up the message "enabling chat features, we'll let you know when it's ready." Checked the settings 15 minutes later, and it said "Trying to verify..." STILL but the button to manually verify was usable.
This sucks.
This had happened to me ever since I got the phone and since my carrier is Verizon, It didn't work right out the gate and tried so many different solutions.
then I read that it could still be linked to your old phone so i put my sim card back and then turned off features and then popped it back to the OP and then just left the messages app run in the background and then it suddenly said chat features enabled.
I don't know if this will help you but it worked for mine.

I turned it off on my old device (doesn't have service anyway). Still no dice. Ugh!!
I've had multiple issues with apps not sending OTP codes or being able to log in completely, and I even think I've had the same issue you are having when I had "dns.adguard.com" set as my private dns setting. Also, if you use AdAway, that could cause the issue. For some reason I have to disable AdAway to use the Amazon app. Weird.

Oh yep, in fact I had another thread about that. Turns out the new AdAway seems to inadvertently block a lot of things. Try adding "*amazon*" (without quotation marks) to the whitelist. PayPal was another I needed to add to the whitelist. I also added Google to see if it'd work for this, but nah... No such luck.

Thanks for the Amazon tip! I was trying to figure it out for the longest time. Even tried the hard way of adding it a long time ago. Just got used to disabling it to use the app or using Amazon through a browser.
It always takes a minute for my chat features to be enabled. Whenever I get a new phone, I always get the message saying "chat features are unavailable for this device" then after a few hours/days, the pop up says that they're ready. I think I leave Messages open in the background. Never had to disable it on the previous device. T-Mobile user here.

Sure thing, glad I could help. If anything, though, you should thank @terlynn4 for that whitelisting suggestion.
In my case this has been going on for a good few days. I've done websearches and researched all the possible causes and solutions I could find, but nothing has worked in my case. Yet. I think the main issue is that I'm not getting the authorization code that Google sends via a short-code service text or whatever those are called.

Usually when I don't receive the code, it's because AdAway or private DNS settings as stated before. But since you're not using any of those, I'm not sure what else would be preventing from sending the code. Is there any way you can use the Messages for Web feature, bring up your messages on PC, send the code that way and see if it comes up on the web?
I had the exact same issue as you, the issue was that Verizon still had my old phone associated with my account. Verizon support asked my for my iccid (16 digit number physically printed on the sim card), and after they associated it with my new phone I received the backlog of all the sms from short codes that I had missed and rcs verified after 15 minutes and a reboot.

I had the exact same issue on verizon, but with a globel version. Wouldnt recognize the phone at all. After calling, they pushed me to tech support. Because the phone isnt in their system, the guy had to take an IMEI from another CDMA-Less phone, and enable the CDMA-Less feature. Then he put my IMEI back. Rebooted, and got 2 days worth of texts, and chat features enabled instantly.
The guy said there's a chance that "cleaners" will comb through accounts and reset it, but if it happens, I just have to do the same thing again.

Question Unique LockScreen Issue

OK guys and gals I have a unique situation. I have both a pattern lock and finger print lock on my Fold 3. I just changed my pattern and now forgot it. I know I know I am idiot but I can unlock the screen with my finger print but since I forgot the pattern I can not reset it. I have tried at least 10 times to get into the setting to change the pattern it no luck. Can you guys help me? Again I can open with finger print but can not unlock by pattern. Any help is GREATLY appreciated in advance!

If I'm not mistaken it will AGAIN ask you for the pattern AFTER the factory reset. I just sold my Fold 1 on eBay and I factory reset it before I mailed it. The buyer called me the day he received it and said it was asking for the last pattern. I informed him it was factory reset and he said it was but still asked for the pattern. I gave it to him and haven't heard a word from him since. He added positive feedback several days later. so... just saying...
...My suggestion would be to endlessly continue to try different patterns before you try the reset. Your brain HAS to kick in at some point. lol

Are you sure that it wasn't Google activation? Since when you do factory reset but you don't remove the Google account before doing it. Then the device will ask for previous Google account to activate the device again.

Before you do factory reset. Go into phone settings and then under accounts remove the linked Google account and any other accounts including samsung one. Then when you have no accounts connected, then you can do factory reset. This shall then remove the activation step from previous Google account.

It's a easy to miss. Since alot of people don't know about it and then this happens. Buyer gets pisst off for receiving a locked device. So then device becomes worthles and only option for him to send it back and get money back. So the seller can then fix this mistake and then resell it again.

Not really. If there was then it would be used by ones who steals it. Alot of trade companies won't reuse the device if you have Google account left on it and such. Then device worth drops and the company will use it as spare parts instead.

They are not going to use that for parts, I think. It was in pristine condition. Besides, they would say to do this if it was an issue or they'd lose a lot of value in trade ins. I'm dubious, and I'm pretty certain that I've factory reset a few phones without this happening. I'm going to test this on my spare right now, in fact.

Well trust me it will request after factory reset. On Google activation and there it will ask previous Google account to re-activate the device. It's a anti theft protection thing to prevent theifs from being able to do factory reset. But I still think the company is going to use it for parts, since when you trade it to samsung then samsung tells you to remove the Google account and samsung account before doing factory reset. If you send the device in to them with the accounts on the device or that you did not do this. Then value on device drops and they will use the device as spare parts instead. Since they cannot bypass this anti theft protection and even Google claims there is no way around it.

Great information here. Strange how a Google account is the ONLY thing that can wiggle its way so far into a device that Google themselves say there is no way around getting rid of it thru a "FACTORY RESET." hmm seems a little intrusive. But whatever..

OK, just tried it. You're right, even after a hard factory reset it asks for the pattern. However, you can enter the google account details instead, which would solve OPs issue.
I'm also pretty certain that I wasn't told to remove the google account, and I did trade in with Samsung, although they use a 3rd party.
Edit: I'm wrong again! Just checked the email and it says to remove all security and passwords. Ooops!

OK, this explains it. When I do a soft factory reset, it doesn't ask for credentials afterwards, because you have to enter them before. It's only for the hard factory reset, which makes sense.
Anyway, OP can hard factory reset then enter the google account details. If OP can do a backup first, nothing should be lost.

If you own the device you have no issues. But if you plan to sell it, then Google and Samsung accounts must be removed before doing any soft or factory reset. That way it won't ask for old Google account to activate the device again. But if your keeping the device then you have no problem to factory reset and then re login to your Google account since you shall know Google account password.
the entire password situation for these tech items are out of hand, I don't work for the FBI nor do I have security clearances, neither does 99.5% of the people in this world.
I don't need a password for my phone, sure my bank app or pay app will require one, but what will people do with my phone, see my pictures? OMG the horror!

My comment was to demonstrate that you don't need to remove any accounts. Doing a soft factory reset forces you to enter credentials, so obviating the need for a confirmation. A hard factory reset requires confirmation, because it can be performed outside of the OS and credentials cannot be confirmed.
This means that my traded in phone, where I didn't remove passwords nor accounts, is still usable without my credentials because all account information is deleted.

I don't think you understood, soft reset does not wipe accounts. While factory reset does but then it's locked to old Google account and requires activation. While soft reset don't since account is still there on the device

You don't need to have any security set up on your phone if you don't want it.
I like the ability to secure my phone. That means that apps like email don't need security, and all of my private documents dont need security.
I am not an FBI agent, nor do I play one on TV

Question Messages Crashes When Sending Pictures

With "Chat Feature" enabled I keep having an issue with sending pictures to other users that use Messages. Everytime I do so it seems to always crash the app and will continuously crash it till the picture finally stops trying to send. Only way I am able to is by switching to SMS/MMS. Anyone know the cause or a fix? I am on VZW.
I have tried clearing cache and restarting device but it still refuses to send via "chat" only SMS/MMS. Any feedback?
Man that's an interesting one. I'm on Verizon with no issue so it's not the network. Maybe turn off chat features, clear data for messages and data for carrier services restart and set up chat features again

It's been going for awhile. Could it be an issue with the beta also? I currently use the beta app that's ongoing updates. Will I lose all my texts if I clear data for the app? And what exactly is carrier services?
I run the beta myself so I doubt it. No you won't lose your messages if you clear data. Carrier services is another app that preloaded that helps your phone use your carrier services. It might not be the urinal, but it doesn't hurt anything to reset it and it's known to cause issues at times
I will give that a try and report back thank you for the info! Gonna try it in a few mins
