How do I turn off sleep mode in fire tv? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a amazon fire tv hacked and it keep turn off every 30 mins when inactive. Can someone show me how do I turn it off sleep mode?

You can use any number of apps out there that will prevent FTV from sleeping. I use the "RedEye Stay Awake", free version.
The direct link in Google Play Store is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.binarymagi.redeye.free&hl=en
IMPORTANT: Make sure that you reboot your FTV after you install the app and tweak the settings within the app.
I have attached the APK in case you don't have GP Store installed on your FTV...

Newer version of this app....

Hello dbdoshi,
I have side loaded the app in your post above but I don't think the app is working properly, when I try to start it the screen flashes and nothing happens. Then 20 mins later the FTV goes to sleep (I have the new 4k FTV). Even if i'm running Kodi I regularly get stuck at a grey screen which I can't escape from unless I hit a button on the FTV remote (I usually use my Harmony by passing TV commands over CEC).

Yes, I found the same behavior on my FTV2. I tested out a few others as well and managed to mess up my FTV. It suddenly started going to sleep every 5 seconds. I had to factory reset it to get it going agin. The only app that seems to work is the Wake Lock app available at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl&hl=en
I have set mine at full Wake... And I tested it for couple of hours today and it works fine on FTV2 (rooted with RBox's latest ROM). I have attached the apk for your convenience. Thanks.

[Q] Netflix keeps signing me out

I don't use Netflix very often on the AFTV, but sometimes when I run the app I have to sign in again.
I have Netflix on a few other devices and only have this problem on the Fire TV.
Not sure if this happens when I don't use Netflix for a while or maybe when the Fire TV is rebooted?
It's really annoying!!
Anyone else with the same problem?
Seems to happen to me as well from time to time. Not sure the cause.
The closest reason I can find is either a reboot or force close of the app, but even then it still seems random as to whether it does it or not.
I've also had this issue on an lg bd player so it's not unique to the fire tv.
I have this happen as well and always suspected it was related to USB for power but haven't test out my theory. Are you using USB or wall plug to power FireTV stick?

I'm using a FireTV not a Stick.
I've done a some testing and can't get it to sign me out, have rebooted FireTV and was still signed in, so I'm not sure what triggers it.

This is a fix I used to help with "Netflix unable to play this title" issue. It worked for 3 days and then came back BUT I was also experiencing your sign out problem (at an extremely annoying frequency!) And since doing this it hasn't happened yet (about 5 days)
1. Go to manage applications<Amazon video and press clear data 3 times. Yes 3 times because apparently 1 and 2 don't get it done.
2. Unplug aftv, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in
That made it better for me and some others. At the very least it doesn't try your patience as much. Having to perform this once or twice a week is better than signing into Netflix 3 or 4 times daily. Hope it works for you...
Out of curiosity, do you know what firmware you're running? Rooted or not? Thanks.

Will try this this evening, but this is still strange.
Why do we have to do this on the Amazon Video app and not Netflix?!? It sounds awful but if it worked for you, maybe it will for me also
About the USB power, I have the Mission Cables MC9E that has a battery that keeps output voltage constant while in use as my stock USB ports are not enough for powering the FireTV Stick and didn't wanted to use the wall power.
Unfortunately the USB ports is my tv does not give power if tv is turned off, so the battery charges only o if tv is on.
I have been out for a week from home and just returned yesterday and in these days I unplugged all my electronic devices and my tv as well.
Now that I'm back, I plugged everything in and Berkley
Netflix was logged off. I thought was normal as everything was unplugged so I just logged in again without thinning about any issue.
It's still annoying as for example Amazon Video it was still logged in, and wished was the same for Netflix.
Getting to the point, yesterday I used Netflix and tv for less then an hour, then this morning noticed that Netflix was logged out again.
I thought was the battery that was not enough charged to keep some power to the stick, and then watched the tv for another quite hour.
Then this afternoon I turned it on again and Netflix was again logged off.
I'm doubting that the battery doesn't have enough time of power for getting charged, meaning that the Fire stick doesn't get power while turned off and it loses Netflix sinc or something related to is log maintenance.
I'll try to use the wall power for a while and let you know also this.
In case, it would mean that the FireTV Stick must not be far away from power for too long periods so to keep Netflix logging.
I say "must not be far away from power for too long" as if I mica the Fire stick from one tv to another unplugging it completely from power, it keeps Netflix logged!!

Why specifically do you need to reboot? (Audio issues, freezes, ?) It might make a difference in the finding the right person to diagnose. Does it sleep or does it stay on overnight?

yes the fire tv goes to sleep but in the morning The fire tv is non responsive cant do anything with remote no lights on front and blank screen.
Try using CTRL+ALT+DELETE on your bluetooth keyboard.
I found it by accident -- it will actually reset the Fire TV instantly.
I've had the same problem on both my unrooted devices.
I usually reboot using the remote (hold down the main clicking button + play)
Is you firetv usually idle with kodi running? i always have kodi running when this happens
I don't have a Fire TV, but I have had this problem with my Fire TV Stick, which was hooked to my Samsung TV and now my Vizio TV. Every time I go to use the Fire stick, I have to unplug it from power and plug it back in. It is very annoying. I don't get any messages, just a black screen.

I have the same problem. It seems to be getting worse. Pretty much everytime i use it it happens.
This happens to me as well. When plugged into my VIZIO tv, and running Kodi 17.2, the Fire TV will spontaneously enter a reboot cycle and will remain there until I unplug the power, wait 2 minutes and plug it in again. I have the new Fire TV 4k (hanging dongle), but this also happened when i had a quad core Fire TV Stick.. my original Fire TV Stick (with Voice Remote) continues to operate without issue to this day, albeit much slower since Amazon removed the Youtube app.
Oddly, the same device does NOT suffer from this issue if I plug it into my LG tv... Could it be an issue with the HDMI port (Port 1 (ARC) that I am plugged into??
Glad to know im not alone. Sometimes it will last for days, sometimes not.
I do use "advanced task killer" and "fast reboot" to kill kodi, netflix, firefox etc when Im not using them.
Guys, i used to have exact same problem and luckily was able to fix it. In my case as soon as the aftv goes in sleep mode it reboots in recovery mode . So because i have the TWRP customer recovery the box is not able to apply that update because is not the stock recovery. the only way to get it back to home GUI is to reboot the box from recovery. That was extremely annoying for me. A while ago i used to block the updates from amazon.com by using opendns, but stopped using it so the box becomes open for updates which automatically get downloaded on the box. Because im rooted there is a easy way of blocking the updates on the box itself by using Method 1 http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-block-software-updates-on-the-amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick/. However this will stop working if you factory reset the box, if you do so you'll have to apply the blocking procedure again.
After the blocking is done just upgrade the box to the latest prerooted firmware from rbox and you're set. this is the link to the latest pre-rooted custom firmware for aftv1 https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/prerooted-stock-images-t2882337.
i hope that helps.
To add to stutunaru, Method 5 is equally important to apply through TWRP, after a fresh ROM flash and before the first full system boot.

No sound on kodi

I updated xbmc to kodi 15 on firetv and now there is no sound has anybody ran in to this problem please can somebody help me or maybe someone knows a fix
Have you tried restarting the Fire TV? Hold down the center of the big round button and the Play button simultaneously for a few seconds to restart. I had a no-audio session once and a restart cured it.
I have tried that and plugged the firetv out also it wont let me in to audio on kodi to change it

Actually happened to me when I updated last nite but all I did was force quit and relaunch. What do you mean you mean it won't let you in to audio? Usually you can either navigate or you can't. Never been locked out...I guess you could try setting it to expert for the most options but if it was working before I doubt changing settings will help. Was this a clean install?
I'm not getting sound after a kodi 15 upgrade either, in and out mostly out.

Fire TV Stick 4k goes back to main menu after a while - normal behavior?

Hello together,
I bought a Fire TV Stick 4k some days ago and ask myself if this is normal behavior:
(Just installed Netflix and KODI (for Youtube without ads) on the stick and disabled the screensaver. Nothing further yet.)
I've made the observation that every time when I leave it alone for an hour or so screen gets black and when I press a button it comes back to Amazon main menu - regardless which app had been on before. This also happens when I watch TV and switch back to the sticks av port. First the screen is black and when I press any button, I'm in the Amazon main menu. This is a bit annoying because the intended use was 99% Netflix.
Last year a friend gave me an old version of the stick to play around and I don't remember this annoying behavior. In my memories it was possible to switch the av port with Netflix menu on and when you switched back to the stick some hours later Netflix was still on.
Is my memory playing tricks on me?
In each case:
Is there anything I can do to achieve the desired behavior?
Ok, I answered the question on my own. This is indeed a new behavior introduced with the new Fire TV 4k stick. Very annoying decision from Amazon. :-/
However, here is a workaround:

Firestick 4k sleep issue

Hello,
I'm using the 4k stick for torrenting and also connect ssh to it. The problem is that after some hours I cannot remote connect to the device because it is in some sleep state.
I disabled sleep from the UI and messed with below settings but it did not help. After some time the stick goes offline.
settings put system screen_off_timeout 2147460000
settings put secure sleep_timeout 0
After some more research I've found that it might be a feature of the stick that puts it to sleep mode after the TV is switched off. The only workaround found is hacking the HDMI adapter so the stick will not know the state of the tv.
Does anyone know how to have the stick permanently available?

"How to set custom Sleep or Screensaver times on the Amazon Fire TV or Stick without root" http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-set-...-on-the-amazon-fire-tv-or-stick-without-root/
Thanks but as I said, trying different values for those commands did not help. After I power-off my TV the stick enters in sleep mode.
There is a program called "Stay Alive!" that has worked on my Tank for years now. Havent tried it on my 4k.
When you run it, it will display an error about google play services and appear not to run, but it still runs and you dont need to set anything up in the app itself.
