Hi,
Currently im using kitkat custom rom for my T705.
And im thinking of moving on to the TWDETOX lollipop rom that is out.
Will a nandroid backup of data that i currently have on my kitkat - im thinking this are all my apps that im backing up - work on the lollipop rom that im flashing over?
I also have titanium backup of my app+ appdata done.
Are both methods viable for what i want to do? restoring applications with their data together with it?
Yep, just restore the nandroid backup.
There's no need to wipe the data partition anyway. I never do.

I use MyBackup because it can back up *.apk files and their associated data.
Titanium backup
http://matrixrewriter.com/android/
The only backup app you will ever need
ROM manager backs up and restores everything for me when I switch from rom to rom. Just set up everything once while on each rom and create a backup for each to restore to. I also us Titanium backup to backup my apps but you don't need it if you just want to restore your settings and apps as you saved it in rom manager.
Might be a pretty basic qtn but heres the deal.
I took a nandriod backup of dk28 (no root) and then flashed it with nebula rom. Now since the rom was new, all my data/contacts/apps etc are gone obviously.. I am wondering if I did a restore of the nandroid restore, will it restore all that (ie sms/email/contacts/data/apps) or is it used to go back to stock rom only, ie it will remove my custom rom and put back the stock as it was pre flashing nebula?
All I need is a way to keep the custom rom but also restore my sms/email/apps etc.
Thanks!

It will restore everything excatly how it was when you saved it. Including your Texts/Mail etc that were in your inbox at the time you saved. You are basically going back to the exact point where you saved. You can create backups for every rom you have, it is not just for putting your phone back to stock. I always back up stock first, so I can always go back if needed.
Thanks Heelfan71..I understand it puts back everything as it was .. but will I loose my custom rom after that is my question.

If you restore your backup? Yes you will loose your custom rom, unless you make a backup of that too (this is what I do). So you can go back and forth between the 2 if needed. Is that what you were wondering?
basically i want to switch back and forth the roms but keep my data intact.. right now after flashing the new rom.. i have obviously lost all my sms/emails/apps etc.. is there a one click solution which will restore all my data on every new rom i install?
edit: Also , I did take a titanium backup before I flashed the new rom.. but i didnt do a complete (ALL) backup, since I couldnt find a option to backup all. I had to choose each service/app/etc to backup.. so I ended up backing up all the stuff that I understood..but restoring them hasnt restored my sms/email data yet.
Do an advanced restore->restore /data in cwm.
I've had pretty good luck keeping my contacts, apps, and settings this way. Some people see weird force close issues after restoring /data. Check it out and see if it works for you.
thaniks.. i ll give it a try .. i thought about it.. but wasnt sure what exactly it does.
did that .. now that removed the rom manager and spare parts.. not sure what else it did.. but it did bring everything sms/apps/emails back ..
i guess i can install rom manager from the market..
If you only restore data your custom rom will stay. It will only restore your apps and app data. If you are restoring data from a rom on the same file system, you should be fine.
In other words, flashing VIPERrom 4.0.3 EXT4, then backing up, then flashing Bonsai 1.1.4 on RFS, then restoring data is not a good idea.
@ryno502 makes sense....thats what i did and it did restore everything.. Thanks!
now i ve to find some good widgets and lockscreen changes..
Nandroid restore on Custom ROM
I own a Xperia Arc(LT 15i)..rooted,unlocked...
I have Cyanogenmod, stable version running on my phone now...
I had taken a nandroid backup using CWM Auto-installer...
But now I wanna know how can i restore my apps that i had with Stock ROM...i tried a advanced backup on /data alone but then, its not booting up if i do so...
Please help..
Xperia?
Your data is incompatible with CM. You will need to download apps again unless you have a Titanium Backup.

actually u can call me a semi-noob..
as i have been flashing many kernels, themes, but only a few roms..
i used to flash a new rom only when i got my phone bricked or sth like losing all data.. without worrying about my data.
but this time i wanna flash a new rom with all my data here.
i know there is nandroid backup, which i have used many times. but limited to the full restore.
so my question here, i know there is an option called advanced restore.
if i want to do a backup, and restore my data (but not the previous rom) after flashing the new rom, which option should i choose?
many thanks!
Try titanium backup. With this free app you can backuo all your app datas and all your user data. This means for example you dont lose the highscores of your game and if you backup your userdata you can backup for example your homescreen.
After flashing just restore your data with titanium backup

Check post 2 of the guide linked in my signature buddy.
It'll get you information on properly using Titanium Backup.
I've got my mind set on jellybomb and would like to flash that coming from stock. Will dirty flash work? First time flashing a custom rom on this phone. Will I be able to backup and restore my apps and data using titanium backup? Going to probably use mybackup to backup everything else. Also what is your experience with jellybomb? Will there be future updates? Still new to this forum and this phone.

I've flashed a bunch of ROMs on my phone and I gotta say dirty flashing is trouble. Yes, when reading through the posts, you can always find someone who has dirty-flashed without any problems, but there is a reason why the first debugging recommendation is always "do a clean (fresh) flash." I've heard of many problems with dirty flashing, and if you plan on going from 4.1.2 to 4.2.1 or 4.2.2, dirty flashing is completely out of the question.
As far as Titanium Backup and the other options... I always use Titanium Backup to do all of the dirty work for me (including SMS/MMS messages, phone logs, wifi access points, etc.). My only recommendation would be to not restore the system files (RED in Titanium Backup), as different ROMs might deal with system apps in different ways.
Hope this helps!
Hey guys.
Im thinking of switching over to Viper from ARHD. But i have a general question. What is the most effective way of switching to a new ROM without losing ANY data? I know i can use Titanium Backup to back up and restore apps (which is what I do now) , but is there a better way which keeps ALL my data? I read about advanced restoring data from a Nandroid backup, would that cause any problems ?
Thanks

Well all your data stays intact such as songs, pictures, videos etc. It's just app data you will loose so best way like you said is Titanium Backup. Most things are in the cloud now anyway
Of course the SD card remains untouched, I'm talking about app data and home screens and folders and etc.

Well if you got a launcher such as Nova you can make a backup of your configuration and for app data titanium is the best
You can back up your entire phone via a Nandroid backup done from recovery. Is that what you mean?
You can back up using recovery which is a nandroid back up and restore your data using nandroid manager in the playstore.

If you're going to an aosp ROM from an aosp ROM, then make a backup of launcher3 in titanium backup and restore it after you've restored your apps.
