Loading an English ROM on Korean Tab S? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
It's been a long time since I've had a Samsung Android device so please forgive me if I ask stupid questions or make incorrect assumptions. I got a pretty sweet deal on a SM-T700 that was manufatured for sale in Korea (I bought it from a guy who bought it from a guy...) Anyway, I'm not a Korean speaker or reader so English is my preference.
Setting the language to English during the initial setup phase takes care of most things, but I noticed that there are still some apps that default to displaying Korean or using default locations in Korea, etc. So I thought I would try installing a North American version of the firmware (Cellular South - XAR) and doing a factory reset before I get too far into setting things up and installing apps and such. So I downloaded the XAR version of the firmware and installed in Odin, but it failed when it got the to the hidden.img file. So first question: What is in the "hidden" partition? Is it a problem that flashing the XAR version of it failed?
Next I made my own tar archive file with all the image files from XAR except for hidden.img and then flashed that. It installed successfully. I haven't gotten much further yet to see if it solved the problems with some of the preinstalled apps, but I did notice that the initial screen when going into download mode is still showing Korean text. Is there a way I can change that to English too?
Thanks a bunch for any help or insight you can share.
Robin

Don't worry about hidden.img it contains nothing but a few preinstalled apps video and sound samples.
To get rid of the Korean text in download, flash an English bootloader.
You will find a post here by me which contains the bootloader you need.

Hey ashyx,
Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately my searches couldn't find the post, can you give a link to it? And wouldn't the bootloader be included in the everything-but-hidden tar file I made and flashed?
Thanks,
Robin

Bootloader should be included in the stock rom - sboot.bin
The bootloaders I posted are for t800/805 only.

Chinese Galaxy Y, how do I change the operating system?

Hi everyone,
Have just purchased a new Galaxy Y here in China and restored to original factory settings however everything is in Chinese which isn't a problem as I can change the language to English however all the default Google Apps are missing and replaced with Chinese equivalents it seems so I'm unable to use them.
So... how can I restore it to a version of Android something functional for me? I'm on mac os x lion with vmware for any windows apps I need and am computer literate enough to attempt anything like flashing a device / updating a rom but have no idea where to start with this. Have read some docs on Odin but they made little sense at first because I don't quite know what steps I need to take in order to carry out this task. I've found various Roms but these are India, Netherlands, Greece versions, does anyone know of a UK version?
Any pointers would help greatly, thanks in advance!
Update: Just came across http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800 so am reading through here however I'm not sure which ROM to go for, the European pack work with sim cards in Asia?

first thing that the initial setup offers after full reset, is to change the language. It's the button on the the right hand side of the screen. if you press the green android, it's too late. then you must navigate to language setup by memory.

I've changed the language but it's a custom Chinese rom as China bans everything google so I need to get it on a normal UK Android setup or something, maybe the European pack from the aforementioned link?
Current versions as follows:
PDA: S5360ZCKK2
PHONE: S5360ZCKK2
CSC: S5360ZHKK2

Thank you for this, am just looking at Docky's stock roms now. Seems like the phone isn't locked to any specific network as accepts both Hong Kong and UK sim cards at the moment. I'm a little confused about setting the CSC and provider/region stuff after flashing it, basically I'm in Asia for the next 10 months and will have various sim cards from different countries and want them all to work. Possible do you think? Or will I have to flash to country specific firmware/csc relative to the sim card I'm inserting?

Well, Im in Asia country too. I tried Docky's Custom ROM which is based on XX which is European firmware and my phone works together with the SIM provider and network. So, the CSC is basically the language supported by your phone (based on my experience). Thus, Im sure you can use European firmware when you are in Asia country

I think the simpliest way to solve this is to update its firmware via samsung kies, besides its the official update you can get and you'll be sure it'll be safe. Ive updated mine through this method and havent tried the ODIN thing. Good luck though

Hi,
I really appreciate all the posting which is done on this site, and it has helped me many times (as I often act as the 'family' technician who can fix things).
But this time, I inherited a bricked Vietnamese Galaxy Young. The issue I have is that event though I installed ODIN in its most recent release, the phone in DOWNLOAD mode is not recognized on the 2 computers I usually use on other Samsung phones.
Is there an Asian-specific driver which needs to be used?
Alas, the phone was backed up using the CWM backup, but it refuses to boot into CWM (just hangs at logo). The only mode it boots into is Downlaod mode. But it need to be recognized correctly before Odin can do anything
Thanks for suggestions

make sure samsung usb drivers are installed - use rear usb ports not front ones and you can try a different usb cable (there is no specific regional driver just a generic samsung usb driver)
once in download mode connect usb cable to pc
push vol up on phone to start connection (wait a 30 secs in case drivers start installing)
open odin 3.07
if it is connected it will say com then a number in a coloured box under com:id on the left hand side

GT-N7100 Android 4.1.2 problem

Hi all im having a problem with my factory unlocked n7100 i have downloaded the latest united kingdom 4.1.2 from the firmware section and flashed the 3 pda/csc/modem files with odin everything went fine but when the phone reboots i get two error messages (unfortunately process com.android.phone has stopped) & (unfortunately messaging has stopped) i have cleared cache and did a factory restore but the problem is still there the message app just crashes it is a fresh install no back ups and never been rooted also when i connect it to kies it says it is unable to update the version of firmware thats currently on my device i would like to use kies or OTA updates in the future any help would be much appreciated i have been searching for hours to no avail.
Try reading through Dr Kevin's threads again, just to be sure. Re-download the rom you want, from a different source and double check the MD5. Doesn't sound permanent, just a bad flash. Make sure you wipe everything again.
Thanks for the reply i re-downloaded the the same firmware again from sammobile incase somehow it became corrupted the first time with no luck same result could you point me to another sourse to download firmwares i have tried a similar firmware from another site but it on gave me the one file instead of the three which i flash with pda within odin but the problem was still there

Might the same as the Sammobile but if the MD5 checks out, it should be fine.

I have tried the firmware given and several others from different sources still no luck i have noticed that all the official roms i have downloaded came as one file which i placed in pda slot on odin and flashed but the the first 4.1.2 firmware came as 3 parts pda/modem/csc it was after i flashed that rom i notced the problem with both error messages so maybe its something todo with the modem/csc files that were flashed ? I cant find another BTU firmware with 3parts to reflash i have also tried other region firmware

Once you flash the firmware, go to recovery mode and Wipe Data/Cacde... Make sure that you have backup of the phone contents.

The one file has all the other files like modem, csc in it.. This kind of error usually happens if the data is not wiped out. But as you said you have already done that several times, I don't know what might be the problem..
As you said that you are having unlocked N7100, I hope you downloaded this file http://www.hotfile.com/dl/229498497/9ffa6b9/N7100XXDME6_N7100OXXDME2_BTU.zip.html
Yes thats what i thought that all files were included in the one yes that is the exact one i have on it now i also tried it from different sources just typed *#1234# into the dialler what i have is ap: N7100XXDME6 CP:N7100XXDME4 CSC:N7100XXDME2 ? I appreciate the Help

Usually the product code is set when you Factory reset your phone in Recovery mode.. In your case it has not changed.
I checked in the Sammobile for Ireland based roms. But all seems to be carrier branded. So BTU rom should ideally work as it contains EIR CSC

Yes Sure someone more knowledgeable can help, you can PM your problem to Dr.Ketan (Search in this forum) he is rely genius.
Look my signature for N7100 toolbox, find PIT and download it
extract to .pit
Flash that PIT for PIT tab of odin (selecting pit will auto select re partition optiuon, keep it selected)
Again repeat but this time along with ROM file (single file ROM also enough). Rom file for PDA and pit file for PIT
Flash and report back.

N975F Early Access Combination (Factory) and Retail Firmware Link

- The one labeled Factory is the Combination file; the other one is consumer/retail firmware
- As with other current devices, I'm assuming that "Odin 3.13 3b patched" will be needed in order to flash the stock firmware, and that the Combination file will fail to flash, until a method is found
- Once the device is released, retail firmware will be available via SamFirm and other sources, so I'm really only providing this now as early access, for anyone that wants to dig in and play around and see what they can find, etc
- I compress extra small for space and bandwidth savings. The default Windows extractor can't handle it, so you'll need a 3rd party tool like 7zip, WinRAR, etc
Happy flashing!

Samsung s9 stock rom question.

Hey guys, how are you doing.
I need your help, because i have a samsung s9 (SM-G960F) which is in a bootloop. I am trying to install a stock rom, but with all the ones that i have tried, odin has either got stuck on keystorage.img or, it has given me a secure check fail. As this occured inexpectedly, i don't know my csc code, so if any of you could find it, i will pay well.
Also, i have tried different odin version, all with the same result. And i tried all of the spanish softwares (because i am spanish)
my imei is 353467/10/733728/3
in download mode it says that FRP LOCK is on, Also OEM LOCK is too.
Thank you very much

where did you get your firmware from? try a fresh download of the firmware, the most current version of Odin, maybe try a different cable (this isnt a likely culprit) and finally a different computer. Those are basically the only things you can do in situations like these. if it was me, i would absolutely download a fresh firmware from sammobile and flash it as a first step. The sammobile link brings you to a page where you can select your country. You should be able to flash whatever countries firmware you want, but its best to flash the one that it was originally built with. You can look that up with the IMEI if you still have the box or the sticker on the back of the phone itself. Also, im thinking it could easily be the version of Odin youre using as they can be very finicky.
i littered an entire box of links in that reply for some odd reason. im bored
Edit:
also, i see this is your first post, so WELCOME to the forum!
Edit 2: i promise im gonna stop editing this post... eventually
Thx
thank you man, i will try that. quick question, is SAMFW.COM reliable? because i have been downloading the firmware from there

Question I want to write SM-F926B ROM in SM-F926N

Hello. I am Japanese. This is my first time to start a thread on XDA, so I don't know a lot of things, but please help me.
I am using the Korean version of Zfold3 (SM-F926N).
I would like to write the Singapore version of SM-F926B ROM on it.
I have tried using Odin, but I get a mysterious error and cannot write it.
Is there any good way to do this?
Let me tell you a way, but I must tell you, after the F926N is unlocked, you can't use the camera. The specific steps are: swipe the latest official F926N, unlock the bl and kg locks, and then place the latest AP and CSC of the F926B in the AP and CSC items of odin, at the same time, place vbmeta in the userdata, and then flash these
You can download vbmeta at xda
