philz touch recovery for jfltetmo - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Just wondering if anyone had a copy of the latest philz touch recovery for a T-Mobile S4 SGH-M919 (jfltetmo) that I could download? I'm interested in trying it to see if I like it better then TWRP 2.8.6.0 on my S4.
I like TWRP, just heard great things about philz version and wanted to try it out. But not having much luck finding it. I think it is also know as CWM Advanced Edition? I'd like to try the Advanced edition if I could find it.
Thanks in advance.

I need the latest version as well.. so bump

I already have TWRP 2.8.6.0 on the M919, had to find it cause the app from the playstore only would install up to 2.8.4.0. I just would like to see the difference between this and philz last version.

Just was wondering something. Using the 6.15.4 version of Philz you have given me the link to I had made a backup of my current ROM install with it. As far as I can tell this version didn't have support for f2fs.
I found out the rom I am using supports f2fs on cache and data. So I recently switched to TWRP with F2FS and converted the cache and data to f2fs and used my twrp to restore the rom that I had made with twrp. So now I'm running my rom with both cache and data as f2fs.
I found a link to a 6.59.0 version for i9505 which I found out I can install on a M919. 6.59 does have support for f2fs.
I was wondering if I do a factory reset using 6.59.0 will it automatically reformat cache and data as f2fs and the others as ext4? I mean I don't have to manually reset those 2 to f2fs, it should know which ones are ext4 and which 2 are f2fs right?
And if I restore the philz backup of my rom (even though the backup was done when all were ext4) would it restore the data and leave it as f2fs, or would it reconvert data to ext4? Or would it be better to make a new backup using 6.59.0 so that the cache and data on the backup will be in f2fs?
Or is it better to just stick to TWRP with F2FS and stick to it? I gotta admit I like both TWRP and Philz, but TWRP seems to be the only one being updated. I hate choices.

True there is that chance. Although the 6.59 did seem to operate fine when I messed with it, but I put TWRP back on cause I wasn't sure about what 6.59.0 would do on a factory reset.
I'm more used to the way twrp works anyway.

[Q] Recovery

Hey guys I found some ROM I wanted to flash and the dev said that its recomended to flash it using 4EXT recovery, But I don't wanna buy stuff
right now, I was wondering if is it okay to flash the ROM via Clock Work Mod recovey? thanks
chance are yes but of course you did leave out some important info, the rom
anyway you can get 4ext for free and it is great to see developers offer this to us but when able to you should consider supporting this recovery, any developer as dedicated and helpfull deserves our support. but when in a bind...

You can get 4EXT free as well, just supports the developer with a purchase in the marketplace, but you can still use the 4EXT Recovery, just like how CWM has a paid/donate version as well.
I prefer 4EXT over CWM, especially since it lets me convert existing filesystems over to ext4 from ext3 (For roms that support it) and has repair functionality, and is compatible with clockworkmod backups.
So its ok to flash it with clock work mod? I'm going to flash this ROM

Should be fine to flash that rom with either CWM or 4EXT, just make sure you do a full wipe (factory, cache, dalvik) etc before flashing the rom itself. Course before wiping make a backup with the recovery so that you can always go back to what you had just in case (and make a backup of that folder on your SD card).

TouchWiz ROM help

Hello there,
I'm new to Android (got me note 2 three days ago) and I rooted the phone yesterday, I flashed cm ROM into the note, because It was as simple as an iPhone, and it was fast, but I lost some of the greatest features that note 2, offers which are the multiscreen and the S-Pen features, I have posted a help thread about that and they replied that I need a Touchwiz ROM, I went to my close friend Google and searched for Touchwiz rom(s) but there were way too many, can you recommend a good light one with nice interface and noob-friendly? I would really appreciate it.
With regards,
OverDub

It's hard to say which is best. A twizz rom is a stock based rom. If you want a rom with lots of features I'd look at one of the note 3 based roms like ditto. If you want something light any rooted stock rom will do then you can use titanium backup to freeze or remove anything you don't use. If you want to increase battery life then check out apps like greenify and receiver stop. They help to stop rogue programs running in the background

No there will be no problem at all. If you are already on a 4.3 bootloader you will be fine If you aren't you just need to flash either the wifi patch or devil kernel to get wifi. I am on the n7105 which is slightly different. If you follow any of Dr ketan's guides you will not go wrong. Airview pen window and quad screen multi window are all pretty cool features in dn3

You can try Tiagra ROM, its supposed to be 4.3 Touchwiz ROM with the features of Note 3.

Just do a full wipe (is a must and most advisable) when you jump from 1 rom to another.
If you are not sure which bootloader you are in now (noobproof in my opinion) :
1) try download all the files you need first, and put them all on the SD card (ROM, Wifi patch N7100 dr. ketan).
2) Full wipe (if you are on philz cwm, do a clean wipe to flash new rom), and flash new rom.
3) let it boot. Try the wifi, if it doesn't work, it means you are on the old bootloader, then you have to follow the wifi patch instructions (or flash devil kernel on my device N7105).

Thank you for the reply, I have the ROM manager app which is associated with CWM, it has the (install a ROM from SD card) option, and if u press it There are two checks which are (wipe data) and (wipe cache).
Is it safe to use the ROM manager way of installing a ROM ?
P.S: I used the ROM manager way yesterday to change ROMs from cm 10.2 to cm 10.2 nightly and it worked perfectly.

Better flash MJ5 bootloader than Wifi-patch. A lot of people reported problems without new bootloader. MJ5 is knox-free.

You can try what dalanik suggest for the bootloader.
as for the flashing of DN3, I would suggest u flash Philz CWM, or TWRP. I myself use Philz CWM (I always use his since Note1, and so far give me less headache in my personal opinion/experienced).
Anyway, CM10.2 to CM10.2 nightly are still the same base CM. When you want to jump into TW from CM, I would highy recommend to do a full wipe. And the full wipe is the best do from recovery.
I'm sorry, I have no idea on using ROM manager to flash ROM on Note device. I left it long time ago. Galaxy S1 is my last device to use ROM manager.

Good advice. Most people seem to have more success with phils revovery on DN3. Aroma can be buggy at times and different recoveries can struggle with aroma

So... you really did it from ROM manager ? I guess you are faster then I reply earlier.
ok.. Now you go to this website : http://www.mediafire.com/?v6cyi52g2ydbd
and then download : philz_touch_5.00.5-n7100.tar.md5
after that you can flash it from PC Odin (since you said u still can go into download mode).
Once you see pass and your phone reboot, press vol up + home + power to go into recovery. You shall see Philz CWM there.

yep correct.
If you ever consider to try again, inside Philz, when you choose wipe data/factory reset, there's option something like "Clean wipe to install new ROM". choose this one. It will do necessary wiping + formatting system/data and necessary formatting. Then you can wipe cache & dalvik. Then you can go on on flashing again.
Or... The best way that I always use, is to clean the internal storage (if I jump from TW to AOSP or the other way around), by using Zoots script. This script (custom wipe => mega wipe), will remove everything inside the internal storage. It will make a very clean place (until your backside ) to flash new ROM.

Use it with Philz 5.0.0.5
Just an opinion, if you would ever like to try again in the future.
All recoveries can be a bit buggy with aroma and bootloop is common. Sometimes turning the phone on and off works sometimes it can take 3 or 4 attempts to work so don't panic. I don't think one of us has never had a bootloop with aroma. As antique_sonic said I think earlier versions of phils play better with aroma. I think it's version 5.15 not 5.05 that's the one I used anyway

[Q] F2FS in Note2 Support is needed

Hello All,
I'm not expert in android platform. I found that there are many articles that are talking about F2FS performance in compare to EXT4.
Is there any tool to convert my device t889 to F2FS keeping the same experience? i.e. android 4.3, current ROM DN3 V3.2 LTE, and Kernel AGNI V3.9.4-OC-LTE
Regards
Guys ... Your reply please ... I think this may have significant performance change if it is doable ... Also if there is a way to override all system call to fsync() by fdatasysnc(), it will produce a massive performance change in the whole device

I just did the f2fs and had ROM running OK, did not see any improvement so I flashed CWM recovery and tried to restore a nandroid and it failed on data then phone would boot but gave me an error about having to reset phone. So i'm odining+root66ing my Note2 to get back to stock. I assume Im not f2fs any more.
Question? Once you switch to f2fs, do you have to use devil recovery from that point on to flash new roms?
Can some one explain the options to flashing a new roms once on f2fs, ex: what recovery can be used?
Converting to f2fs was not difficult and will do once again when I understand more.
Cheers, they really need a beer mug icon, but jolly face will do.

Odin will format as ext4. You will need to keep devil recovery in order to keep f2fs as no other recovery can write to f2fs partitions. Ive found though that some zips dont like to install using devil recovery. Once partitions are f2fs, before you can do anything else with another recovery, you need to reformat the partitions back to ext4 ( or go through odin and start all over again lol ).
You will need to use devil and reformat the partitions back as ext4. Then flash cwm / phils touch recovery. Once thats done you can flash a new rom zip. To revert the new rom back to f2fs, Install a compatible kernel (agni and devil so far ), then flash devil f2fs recovery. Reboot to make sure things are working properly. Then reboot into devil recovery to do a nandroid, format f2fs, and restore the new nandroid.
Hope this helps! I just did a write up in the Jedi X2 thread with links.

Read directions in op from thread provided by matt. Performance gains require a little more than converting file system. Added effort is well worth it.

F2fs for the gs3 ??

Yes, I have don't the searches, and tried a ton of stuff including formatting portions. Seems this is working on the international version, and most nexus devices. Is the a thread that might help, or has anyone heard success stories with our device.

Same question here, I can't even find the option to format data partition in f2fs. I installed latest version of TWRP (2.7.1.0) and I looked in Advanced wipes menu, I selected "Change filesystem" option and it showed me the filesystem choice menu, but I only get the option to use ext2, ext3, ext4 or fat, no f2fs option. I also tried with Philz recovery but I see no option for f2fs in it too.

philz has the option in mount advanced format and you have to toggle ext4-f2fs.
decronic has an successful method for the N5 and has been helpful in supplying tools to convert a rom f2fs and attempting to get me off the ground but the kernel seems to fail on my attempts.
here is a flashable zip to format system, data, and cache for the d2LTE devices. It will completely wipe the internals of the phone so be sure to have an external sd card prepared for your next steps.

please keep me posted as I would really like to use the full potential of this device.

Will try when I come back from work. Supposedly CM11 is supported right out of the box, if you use newer than 06/30 version.
I'm attempting to make it work now. I installed Philz Recovery 6.48 instead of 6.26 and I now have the f2fs option. I tried formatting all partitions to f2fs (sytem, data and cache) and I modified the updater script, using the instructions in Quantum Kernel thread, but it failed to boot (won't go past boot splash screen). Now, I'll try to only format /data and /cache partitions.
Edit: using only f2fs on /data and /cache, it won't go past the boot animation. It's a pain in the ass for now, nothing's working.

try just data. cache always failed for me regardless of the kernel

It successfully booted by using f2fs only on /data but it stopped dead in its track, when it showed a screen telling me that encryption is unsucsessful and that I need to perform a factory reset. Looks like there's really no way at all to make it work. Flashing a different kernel didn't change anything.

No, there is a way. I'm not sure how to get system to stick. S3 mini has it, nexus devices, and others. it will happen soon I'm sure.

thanks for ur efforts.
(trollin).
err on the side of kindness
http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/68382/ maybe we'll be able to get it with what they added on the latest nightly
Quantum 5.2
Has anybody been able to get F2fs working on their s3? I have been experimenting for hours. So far ive gotten an infinite bootlogo formatting to f2fs and installing quantum 5.2. if i convert quantum 5.2 rom to f2fs and install it gets stuck on gimme pwncakes picture (kernel)
Edit: also getting the encryption error when formatting data only

Haven't managed to get it working yet.
I tried flashing a recent CM nightly (with the default kernel) in vanilla CWM, Philz Touch CWM, and TWRP and no luck with any of them. Flashing the Format-All-Partitions zip doesn't seem to work, and if I use the F2FS format options already included in Philz Touch, I am never able to mount /system afterwards. I didn't even have the option to switch to the new file system in TWRP.
So I'm not too sure what's going on. Is it a recovery issue? Or is our device somehow permanently limited to what file systems we can choose from? I'm out of ideas at this point.
f2fs s3
Theres barely any roms or kernels that support f2fs for the d2att s3. I think it has to do something with the compatibility of the rom. Pwncakes has said that his kernel does support f2fs, but im confused whether the rom supports f2fs. Also, most of the tools for f2fs are for the nexus devices, so there might be some error in the compatibility of them. Other devices like the i9300 have kernels that support f2fs as well as dualbooting, but it hasn't picked up for the d2att yet.
I'm not positive, but I think the kernel can be either-or, but the ROM can only be one or the other. So the ROM will have to be made specifically for f2fs.
compatibility
Major kernels such as Kt747, leankernel and QuantumKernel all support f2fs, but theres no compatible rom to go with it. I would love the speed boost of f2fs on my phone if it were possible.
The interesting thing is I tried the F2FS ROM converter tool that was posted in the Quantum thread. The output zip looked like it did in fact have some changes to reflect support for the file system, but I still couldn't get past the kernel image on boot with TWRP. With Philz Touch, I was still unable to mount /system after flashing the ROM.

I have a feeling that the slimkat rom will work with f2fs. Im going to try it out along with quantum kernel or kt747

please post back your progress. Device maintainer said that it has something to do with the Fstab that is preventing it from working for us.
my expirience with Dechronic's rom converter is that it makes use of a modified boot image. I fear the one I have is too old to working with so I am sort of stuck waiting for a further development. its a shame too, I have a spare S3 I can be a little risky with.

Recovery issues

I have used cwm, twrp, and philz touch. The only one that works on my at&t s3 is philz. Recently it has not been able to do a factory reset.
It will wipe cache and dara but it stops at formatting.android.secure. it doesn't do a full wipe at all and I let it try for over an hour. (I'm on cyanideL). Does anyone know where there are good links for some recoveries? I can still flash and I also have mobile Odin pro. Thanks.

factory reset from settings ? but have backups somewhere cause it will wipe your phone.
"all i can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
That's what I want to do is wipe it 100%. Philztouch 6.0.4.x hangs. It will do a data wipe, cache. But I need a 100% clean wipe.
so ........ can you do it from settings ?
"all i can really do , is stay out of my own way and let the will of heaven be done"
Which bootloader is on your phone?
I believe the latest version of CWM is 6.0.4.7 and the latest release for Philz is 6.48.4.
That's me^^ forgot my info. NJ1.
Was the phone encrypted?
No. Everything works fine. It just won't totally wipe. I don't really need it to do so but I don't like when my recovery does anything it shouldn't as this type of problem can cause unforseen consequences later down the line. I'm running cyanideL 5.0.1. Twrp doesn't mount anything (it reads no cards and insists I have no system installed (I'm using it to post) ... I just saw the above.. Can I get a link to philz 6.48.4?
You can flash the zip version from TWRP or the tar.md5 version using Odin.

That's actually what I have. All of the recoveries give me a hard time on this phone. Ah well, I appreciate the help. And that's a good link, thanks.
What about using a different ROM?
I can use lollipop ROMs. Cannot go back to 4 because it doesn't wipe android secure. That's the thing, it doesn't fully wipe. Not a huge problem because cyanide l is kickass, I just feel funny without a 100% functional recovery. Philz used to be the only one that worked but now I have this issue.
Got it figured a while back ago. The recovery in these comments was the right one. I didn't look closely enough. Flashed with mobile Odin pro. All is well. All works 100%. PS official D2att from cyanogen website. 12.1. In case anyone was interested. Everything is 100% except Bluetooth. But there is an update I haven't used yet. So we shall see
I'm using RoryB's Philz version (later) . No problems ever - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=20226 . Search for RoryB
It's 6.58 or 6051 (I don't remember the numbers), but it is a later version than 6.48.4
Edit: got it. 6.58.9
Thanks again bud!
