After Hboot unlock, i am unable to factory hard reset my htc desire 816. It also not entering into recovery menu...After that i saw a red color massege "This build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC’s written permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal action" in it's boot screen...plz help me to restore my hard reset system...& also remove the red warning text...
hye, you have to install this recovery in the phone in fastboot mode, and it will be ok to reset factory after.
I had the same problem and it was ok with this.

I made a series of follies trying to root my phone. Using Hasoon 2000's all in one HTC one X kit I tried to install CWM recovery before I rooted the phone. When I tried to go into recovery mode after that it would just give me that red script with the legal warning underneath the HTC boot screen and stay there. In my attempt to fix the problem I tried to flash the stock kernal which resulted in me getting stuck in a boot loop to the HTC screen with the red warning. Factory reset did not do anything. So I had the brilliant idea of re-locking the boot loader.
So now my phone boots up to the bootloader screen, no matter what I do. Factory reset, boot into recovery mode, reboot, all lead me back to the same place.
Fastboot does seem to be working which leaves some hope I can un-brick this thing. I tried several times throughout the process to clear the fastboot cache through the ADB shell which seems to have executed successfully, but made to no difference.
Can someone walk me through the steps to get back to a working phone with a working recovery mode? Help would be much appreciated!
Search XDA for "red triangle", there are quite a few posts about how to fix that.
Please use search.
There is a tread in which it is describe how to fix your phone " from disaster "
I think it is in One X Android ROM section.
Search for tutorial and disaster pr something like this.
Hope this will help you.
Regards.

{UPDATE} : I was able to unlock my bootloader again which now results in a bootloop to that HTC screen with the red legal notice. I can get into the bootloader if I power on with volume down.

I'm unbricked!
This thread was helpful http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609190
now I have to see if I can get this thing rooted finally.
Helo everyone,
I am new and I joined this site, because I need a little help.
Let's begin with some information, I do have HTC desire816,and lately I rooted my phone ,well everything work fine but there is one issue.
When I turn off my phone ,it does all the process
I mean it shows HTC symbol, turn off the little light on the left corner
And the problem- it turn on writing this is red " this built is for development purposes do not distribute outside of HTC
Without HTC written permission failure to comply may lead to a legal action"then it goes to custom recovery screen.
I tried to chose advanced option then power off option, but it rolls back to the same process which ends at the custom recovery screen.
Please help me
Thanks in advance

Once your in your custom recovery screen wipe your cache and Dalvik cache then reboot. If the powering off issue continues you can try a factory reset, which will wipe your apps, text messages, call logs etc so back them up first and then see if the issue is fixed. Third thing you could try is flash a different custom recovery if your on CWM now you could flash TWRP 2.8.7.0 through ADB/fastboot on your computer ,like you flashed what you have now, as a custom recovery . It's what I use and I like it alot. Let me know how things go and if your issues get fixed.
Hi All,
Long time reader, first time poster
Short story: I just need a straight link to a recovery.img file specific to my device which is a HTC Desire 820.
Long story:
- Upgraded my phone to Lollipop.
- Unlocked my HTC phone.
- Followed a guide on the net regarding flashing TWRP recovery image and rooting (did not realise I was unknowingly flashing a previous / incompatible version on my phone).
- Now stuck with a phone that can't boot to recovery or factory reset (because it then tries to boot to recovery when doing this).
- I can get into the boot loader screen and fastboot, but selecting HBOOT and then RECOVERY makes my phone vibrate a little and flashes a message, but then goes back to the boot loader screen.
- I tried to flash another recovery.img file, but this just made it so that the HTC logo is displayed and doesn't get passed that.
- Now I just want to flash the lollipop recovery.img so that I at least can root the phone and not necessarily install TWRP.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance.
So... no ideas?
lol *bump*

Thanks for responding and providing guidance @tomal.
The model of my phone is: HTC DESIRE 820 Model Number: OPFJ50.
Thank you in advance.
Power of your device and connect the device to the charger when it is in power off after connected you quickly press vol up+power button or vol down+power button then you find a charging logo then release the buttons after tha the phone goes off automatically then you quickly press vol down button only it gets the bootloader then you flash the only lolliop stock official recovery.img because twrp of 64 bit having some bugs.but they fix it you wait for some time.
keep on pressing the power button for a minute and then restart into the os .
still searching for the recovery.img compatible with htc desire 820.
please if you get let me know at [email protected] .
Flash stock official recovery....it having no bugs while booting, restarting, formatting the phone. but it can't handle the ota updates. You have also wait for some more time they will updated best recovery or stock ruu or how to s off.
Hi, I don’t know who or were to ask, my HTC Desire 820 was working fine, no problem at all. I got a voice chat and while listening there was a loud noise and the device shut off. After a few seconds it booted back up and didn’t load android, it was on a constant bootloop. I couldn’t turn it off or anything. After a while it shut itself down. Assuming the battery was low I connected it but to my surprise it wasn’t charging, the orange LED was blinking. I leave it plugged in for more than one hour but the situation continued, the phone was not powering on and the led was flashing. At that point what I did was to remove the back cover and reset the battery which make it begin to charge normal. After 30 min I tried turning it back on but the boot loop was still there. I could manage to enter fastboot and perform a factory reset. After it finished the device was booting back up and at a certain point the bootloop start over. The device was not rooted, bootloader locked, everything stock, since I didn’t want to mess with it because it is my only phone at this moment. I think on unlocking bootloader, and rooting to try install a custom rom or a backup save from someone. I have been able to unlock bootloader but TWRP doesn’t load, the device will not go into custom recovery and I have tried several versions. Now I don’t have the stock recovery anymore. I can go into bootloader, but nothing else.
I have to mention that now I have more than 24H dealing with this with no luck or signs of fixing my phone. Please, please any one that can help I will be very grateful.
My phone info is the following
HTC Desire 820 dual sim.
A51_DTUL PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.19.0.0000
OS-2.10.709.2
SEP 25 2015
SO in this way you have to s off the htc desire 820 and flash the ruu means os zip file in bootloader or type the command fastboot rebootruu in fastboot mode then flash the ruu with fastboot files with the help of computer.

I have used it before with another device I had. and to be honest I will be glad to use it again. the big problem here is that the phone is not booting, so I cannot install sunshine to gain S-OFF.
If there is any other way to get it done or something to allow me boot to the OS it will be great
The only solution for this is wait for a few days.because the htc desire 820 is the first model to get android 64bit.so the developers are not able to develop thirdparty code for it.if the device is locked go to the service center and give the phone they are all having the more stock roms to flash it.
Hello all
Apologies in advance for the quality of this question, it's by no means particularly technical. I have searched quite extensively but I can't seem to find the answer ... at least, the answer I want! I have a suspicion it's the end of the line for this phone but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
It's my Dad's M9, UK/Vodafone spec. It's never been modified, rooted, customised. He messaged me a couple of days ago to say he had a report of "com.android.settings" stopping and he was unable to access the phone settings. After some quick searching the phone was rebooted, followed by a factory reset (boot into recovery, as settings didn't work). The phone now fails to boot, stopping at the HTC logo forever. I have tried all the button combinations I can find, volume up + power to simulate a battery pull (this reboots the phone, but it goes right back to the same point and freezez), volume down and power, into recovery, cache format and factory reset, this then goes through the motions of "Android Starting .... optimizing 218 of 218) and then stays there forever, requiring another battery pull.
My last thoughts were to flash a stock ROM in the hope of returning it to factory settings that way, but every one I have tried fails. The latest failure was 12_ZIP_FAIL or something similar, which I read is to do with it being S-ON ? What I'm gathering from all this is, I can't flash it because it's not unlocked, I can't unlock it because it won't boot, I can't boot it because it needs a flash... I'm now at the mercy of the XDA community. Is there any way back or is this phone for the trash? Details here :

Hi there
I did vol + - and power, I get :
*** Software status: Official ***
*** LOCKED ***
*** S-ON ***
I can then reboot, reboot to bootloader, boot to download mode or boot to recovery mode. Or power down.
Error 12 has nothing to do with the phone being S-ON. Please read the ReadMe thread, carefully. You don't need to be unlocked for flashing RUUs. The thread contains explanations for the most common RUU errors, the correct RUU for the phone and flashing instructions.
Due to the bootloader still showing "Official" and not "Modified" with a "Security Warning" I don't think that this phone suffers from a dead nand. Therefore, it should be recoverable.
HI
I have a strange problem with my HTC One M9. The phone turns on, but it cannot boot finally, it continuously turns off and turns on again and again...I can enter Download mode but I can't enter recovery mode.
download mode:
Unlocked
htc_himauhl PVT S-ON
OS -4.28.401.3
any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance
I had the same problem after flashing liniage os (dont remember what version) basically after that my recovery broke, and while trying to fix it I managed to reset the whole phone and now it only powers on and off, and can also get into download mode.
