There is a strange problem I have come across
on my HTC desire 816w dual sim.
There is no option for checking updates in settings-about phone-??
I don't have any idea why or how this could have happened.
Please help me!!!!

I have the same problem i dont know what the hell is this ,why there is no option of Software Update

hello,
i have the same problem and i have asked HTC assistance, they told me that its normal, and when it will be our devices turn , update will show up by itself.
im not sure that its possible but anyway i share my experience with desire 816 dual sim
I don't think that's true because I have seen that option on my friends HTC even without any updates available.
Btw do you think flashing the stock Rom will fix that??

Not possible. This model only works on Virgin Mobile.

Never say never. I will not rest until it is possible. SPCS won't keep me down. I was a loyal customer for ten years and they screwed me over. I want the phone, but not them. Back in the day they said my Photon was on a version that couldn't be modified to GSM, but that didn't stop some of us from making it work.
I just wish I'd have picked a phone that had more development time with the true devs.

Well then, who knows, maybe it can be done.
Try Try till you suceed.. Buy it at risk :d and let me know, I will try to help you as much as possible.. if sprint omadm.apk work on it, it can be unlocked. That process is use to unlock sprint htc one, htc one max and htc m8 phones for gsm capabilites..

Virgin mobile says they are coming out with an unlocking policy by the 11th of this month I believe. So just keep checking the website I guess...Trust me I was looking as well

I checked with Virgin Customer care if they can unlock, they told me that they cannot give MSL code as it does not satify the conditions. But i was searching all the forum and able to get the MSL code from the MSL utility.apk, but I am not sure how to unlock the GSM with the MSL, I was able to enable ##3424# but dont know further process.
I am sure someone would be able to unlock it soon and share the process. Lets wait for some more time:fingers-crossed:

i got a virgin mobile ruu from HERE
i want to know if its safe to flash it on a dual sim device.
i understand i may need to change the CID/MID to get it to work.
i really need the 5.0 version for my dual sim phone but the update is not working.
note: i have root access on the device.

Most likely not. The dual SIM models have different partition sizes then the VM variant, and it will probably hard brick your device.
Scratch that, flashing any RUU not meant for YOUR phone has a 99% chance of hard bricking your phone. So I really don't want to see you with a busted phone...

I have read alot about this problem on the interent, I have contaced HTC for this and I got no suitable answer they keep asking me strange questions about how do I operate my mobile, This is my 6th android mobile since 2009 and I never saw a problem like this which I cant switch to 3G mode, the option is grayed and I cant force to change it even throught "phone information" from GSM Only to WCMDA prefered, tried both sim slots, tried another sim, tried some google play apps, tried factory reset... none did work out.
I did also read about an update to HTC 820 software which was applied to "some HTC 820" that would reslove this problem, but my phone wouldnt get that update.
Now the question is, Do i try and apply a RUU from HTC which is not mine? since my mobile is Indian and I think gettings a chinese RUU might solve the problem.
please advice.

Please i need urgent help, the desire 816 is my only device so i need help.
I tried to install a custom ROM for my device but it was'nt for the 816G so now i have a phone that whenever i try to boot it up, get's stuck on bootloop all i can access is the CMW and i have no backup file to restore it ... Please if anyone knows how i can fix this tell me how, i already have the RUU for this device but i don"t know how to flash it, with which flash tool ? and if the phone will be detected if i connect via USB.

Please tell me your exact phone model.
You can find all that's needed to flash an 816g (MT6592) dual-SIM device on this site.
If your device is in bootloop, watch this video to learn how to disconnect the battery, so your device can be shut down. SP Flash Tools will only work, if your phone is completely shut-down, otherwise it will continue to bootloop and your pc/the flashtool won't connect.

Under Desire 816, there are many variants... @nemesis666999 will have to tell his EXACT phone model..which a5_xxx model do you have?
There is no other variant of desire d816G. This device is one of a few other models with an mtk processor.
If it's really a desire d816G dual sim, only the method I posted before will work.
Besides, he posted in the wrong thread to begin with. 816G is dual sim, he posted he's got a single sim version.

hey there, just wanted to know is this helpful for my htc d816 a5_dwg as well. cause even its stuck in a boot loop. for some reason I don't know what my phone goes black every time I try to enter recovery mode. It says select sim card. One with grayed out, ask everytime not available with messenger
Another with my sim card's name. Please help me ASAP !!

did you flash CM13 for A5dwg?
Yeah. In about phone the cyanogen version is 13.0-20161218-NIGHTLY-a5dwg
