This note 8 doesnt hold a charge even plugged in even in use. it can last a few days just sitting there with greenify(yes its rooted). i noticed on my note 3 it charges while in use (doesnt slowly die actually charges up). so my question is should i get a new battery or figure something out?
How old is the Note 8? I'd say go for a replacement battery.
Is your usb port working allright? Does the same charger charge your note 3?
Yes it works with the note 3 and charges fine, its at least 2 years old its my mothers tablet so im unsure just using it cause she isnt
Cable, bad app, or you need a replacement battery.

Alright, I'll try to be as brief but detailed as I can.
I just got my note II 3 days ago. I used what little charge it had out of the box until it died, and plugged it into my computer to charge it overnight.
I woke up and it was fully charged. I used all of the battery and plugged it in to charge the next night as well. only this time, I woke up to find it hadn't charged a bit.
I tried to plug it in to a different charger, and I saw no charging icon. I rebooted the phone, and I got the charging logo. it only charged for about 10 minutes before it stopped charging. I tried to reboot it again and got the same issue. so I spent a while trying different chargers and cables until it was totally dead.
Now, when I plug it in I get a gray battery icon with a loading circle in the middle, and then it goes away. I tried leaving it for several hours like that, but it didn't charge at all.
I read on several sites, including this one I think, that it might be a software issue. I tried flashing to a stock recovery rom with Odin but that didn't do any good.
the weird thing is, I can get into the recovery menu, and let it sit there for hours, so the phone IS receiving power from the charger. it just wont charge!
I took apart the phone to check out the solder on the connector, everything looks perfect. I even sprayed it out with electronics cleaner spray.
I'm not sure what else I can do besides get a new battery, but I mean, this one is brand freakin' new!
What exactly does this battery icon mean? I can't find any info on it or anything.
btw, I still can boot into android, but it instantly dies.
thanks for any help!
I had the same issue about a month after I got my note II. I ended up having to take it back to the sprint store. They ordered a new one for me and I swapped it out once it arrived. It didn't cost a thing and I had a backup phone to use while my phone was dead. Check with your local store and see what they can do for you.
I bought my phone from ebay (new) so I dont think that will work : (
some updated info though, I charged the batter using a friends note 2, and it charged fine. I stuck it in my note 2 and plugged in the charger.
it says its charging on my phone. I get the charging symbol and everything, but it just doesn't charge. I'm really starting to think this IS a software issue. maybe I should try a custom rom.
Factory reset could help.

I tired that but it didn't help. : (
Charging the phone on the usb from the computer is not the best as the battery is a beast..... there is a reason the stock wsll chsrger is 2 amps .... most computer usb are maybe 1/4 that so that is probably your issue....
Thanks

Like I said, I have tried many chargers. my Asus motherboard has a header for a 2 amp usb port for charging devices. that doesnt work either.
I have tried my friends note 2 charger and that doesn't work. my battery charges fine in his phone.
my port is working fine for data transfer. my phone shows up in odin as well.

Could be a bad USB port then.

Note that at stock the phone kernel is not written to make actual use of a 2A Usb line. IIRC stock kernel limits to sub 1A.

I have exactly the same problem: phone starts loading..I see a grey battery icon with a loading circle, then just for 2-3 seconds the green icon
and finally it stops. I have tried everything..differents charger, computer, and have seen posts with people with that problem but noone says how it finally was solved. Any help?
Same here
I have Gummy ROM 4.4.4 installed everything works fine except charging the phone while powered off results in the grey battery icon freeze
My Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 (GT-P5210) Just Turned Off and It Won't Turn On again
I thought that it was due to the low battery but now that I'm charging it, it wouldn't even show the battery thing being charged
I didn't root it.
Please help me!!!!!!!!:crying:
Hello, same Problem here. Did You solved it?
How did you charge it? I had the problem while I charged it on my PC.
I solved it: Let him charge with it's battery charger for an hour or more
A computer USB port is not powerful enough to charge this beast. Make sure you use a charger rated for at least 2A like the original.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 - 10.1" [GT-P5200]
My Galaxy Tab 3 - 10.1" [GT-P5200] has also turned off and does not charge anymore.
Tried with a couple of original chargers but it just would not respond. It was also not rooted nor flashed.
What shall i do?
And mine doesn't work at all on battery, like it is not connected.
My P5210 works only with charger connected.
Anyone had this problem?
It started with when I pushed the power button, it just went dead... disconnect and connect the battery and the Tablet came back to live again. And now when I plugin the charger I see a empty battery image, the a blue full battery image and then I push the power button and the tablet turn on.
When I remove the charger the tablet dies immediately.
End of live of the battery?
I guess I will open it to take a look inside again...
Opened the tablet and firmly pushed on the battery connector and it works again

In the past week, my wife's 1 yr old Tab 3 10" has become flaky to charge and as of last night we can't get it to charge at all.
Tried several cables and different chargers around the house, no luck. The port is very loose so at first i thought maybe it was just worn out and wasn't getting a connection. Tried the freshest tightest cable i have in the house and couldn't get even a moment of charging so i've ruled that out.(or it's more worn out than i can imagine)
Saw a suggestion about the 7" model to disconnect the battery for a bit to resolve a similar issue. Gave that a shot but no dice.
After that I noticed something interesting.. one of my chargers stopped working when i plugged her tablet into it. until i unplugged it from the wall for about a minute, it wouldn't charge anything else. 3 times it played out just like that - charger works, plug in her tablet, charger doesn't work.
Then I plugged the tablet into my Macbook Pro and things got really fun.. it shut down instantly and won't power back up at all(i'll deal with that later on).
So,.. my assumption now is that there's a short in the micro USB port.. does this sound logical to anyone? Or could an issue like this be caused by something else that's not as fixable?
This is really disappointing because we've been generally happy with samsung products.. but this just seems too soon to have an issue like this. At least it's easy to take apart.
Sorry if this is a common issue that's been covered.. couldn't find any info relating to the 10" model. Thanks in advance!

well, if according to my understanding of your description, that is what happening to me now.
You can try my method which is working for me.
If you didn't mess your boot partition up. you can leave it drain for like hours to days *I have tried to leave it for 7 to 9 days... * and charge it again, keep charging about 30 minute to an hour when you see charging sign, then proceed to Section B if you brick your device. If you don't, just start it up normally and let it charge up to 100% before you discharge.
>Drain the battery by leaving it uncharged for hours to days
>Charge it on, you will see charging sign
>Leave it charge for hours
>DONE!
OR
You can replace your battery

And I guess maybe you have a p52xx (Tab 3 10.1 from samsung and not fom tmobile etc.) , remember to use 2.1 A x 5 v charger. Do Not use Laptop Power to charge your device . It may be a bug or hardware issue for this problem.

Thanks for the response.. I'll keep it in mind for the future. For now, this did end up being a bad usb port.. i ordered the part same-day on Amazon and had it swapped in 10 minutes. as soon as it was back together it was charging normally again. kudos to samsung for not soldering the usb port to the mainboard!

Samsung Note 2 starting only when plugged in wall charger. As soon as i unplug it, it turns off. I bought the phone like this, so i don't know much about it's past. It was also in factory mode, but i managed to root and get it in user mode.
I bought a battery from a friend, but it's the same problem with either of them. Would it be possible for both batteries to be out of juice? Should i run out and buy a new battery?
I also tried swapping the motherboard with a working / previously tested motherboard, but it was the same. Any ideas to what's causing this battery related problem?
solved. got a new battery. worked.
First it stopped fast charging. I then later it would only charge sometimes and then accidentally dropped it and now it wont charge at all. I don't know what to do. I tried another note 4 charger and it won't charge on that either. I just got the phone last Feb and it broke already? Is there anything to try before I take it somewhere to be fixed?
Phone won't charge on a note 4 fast charger
Tried 2 note 4 fast chargers.
When the phone is off it sits on the screen with the battery and the thunderbolt but never charges or shows a charge %.
Please help. The phone is in a pelican case. It doesn't look damaged from the outside but I don't know about the inside.
Edit: As soon as I posted this I tried again and it charged with fast charger. I don't understand what is going on.
Maybe the charging port is loose...You can try using wireless charging thought that will require a new back cover/ insert and a qi charger
Warranty. Go to AT&T Device Service Center
The battery could be defective as well. Try another battery or take it to ATT and tell them its not charging, they should have an extra battery to test with as well.
When you tried the other chargers, did you use their cable or the power block with your cable. My son had a similar issue with his Note 2 and did what you did but used his cable. Turns out the cable had a short in it. Replaced the cable and it charges fine ever since.

Yep. Was a bad wire. Not sure why others were not working at the time but eventually one started working and then they all started working again. I have no idea what was the problem.
