Hey guys, I am thinking to buy this phone and I need your opinion because there are many mixed reviews about this phone online. And I'm confused! Some people have reported many bugs like
1.Low volume where you can't listen to your ringtone and you miss your calls.
2. The camera quality is not that good for a 13mp as this number is on paper only, and in pictures taken by the camera.
3. Heating issue -- I think this is pretty normal for a phone with powerful processor with an average build quality
4. People have also reported as bad customer service, "Random reboots"-- Is that true?
And yeah, the color of the back panel comes off, if you touch your phone with wet hands.
Should I buy this phone? What are things I should take care of after buying this phone? like the apps etc. I'm NOT the person, who is new to custom roms and rooting..
Where does this phone lack in? things like camera etc?
PS: Sorry for posting in this section because I couldn't see much replies in the Q&A and troubleshoot section. Please do reply and mods, if you think, this is in wrong section. Then please move this to right place.

I have been looking into buying an HTC Diamond from Telus, but have kept hesitent due to a few major reasons: poor phone quality, reception, and dropped calls, and sluggish, slow interface.
Browsing the web for feedback and solution, I found an ad on the web offering to update the ROM which would improve in these areas. The person said it would turn diamond from triband to quad band, significantly improving reception, increase the speed of the pda, and the other interesting options. The only problem with that was that he was charging $100 dollars to do this. Thankfully, I discovered this forum, so now there is hope that I can tweak the Diamond. But it seems there is not one definite rom update, but a few. So my question is, do they all provide the basic features of increasing the processing/ display speed, and reception on top of other customized features, or is there a particular one the dude could have been talking about.
I really like the look of this phone, and it will be my first PDA. I don't want to get into some **** though on a 3 year contract. I am not noobish when it comes to these things; in fact, i enjoy messing around with my phone and computer -- customized both quite suitably.
If anyone has a ROM in mind that he or she uses very successfully, is very satisfied, please post it here and link the specs. Any advice, recomendations are welcome. I don't care much for music player, got an iPod, but compatability, accessibility, speed, reliabbility, and battery are very important. Naturally I am not looking for a mini laptop, so the phone aspect comes foremost important. Basically, I am trying to avoid restarting it every 10 minutes, rebooting, all that, which will just add on to the stress.
I also noticed some talk about Manila. What is it exactly? Is it just a theme, or something more. Well, any help is sincerely valued. Thank you.

Hello.
It seems to me you have a lot of reading to do and a lot of catching up.
Bear in mind that all of us in here clearly take the risk of loosing warranty, since all the roms are home made and not official from htc. This means that it is solely your responsibility if something goes wrong.
I respect the fact that you are not noobish but for PDA stuff treat yourself that you are noobish and read from scratch ( friendly advice to avoid probs)
If you want a suitable rom for you it comes down to you and only you to take the risk and start trying what is availlable.
No one can tell you what is suitable for you and if it will work or not etc etc., quality and functionality is totally subjective
I repeat that if you want to try you must get used to the fact of warranty is void with these roms.
So lets begin.
1. understanding what you do is important so here you are: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211 THIS IS THE BIBLE
2. Roms: look in the forum for the varius roms, see the specs, progs, if you like it try, if not, try another one
keep in mind the above link. read it carefully if you do not want to end up with a bricked device. follow instruction carefully
Finally, i have been flashing roms for a year now in 3 htc devices i have come across and never ever ended up with a brick, however, no warranty.
and again there are ways to get the device back to original state for warranty reasons, you will get there in the forum, but get to know the stuff well and understand them befor you do anything.
Lastly, always read before you ask since most what you need, there is an answer in here.
I hope i have helped you as much as i could and i hope you will get your device up and running with the stuff in here, thanks to the amazing hard work and knowledge of the members/senior members/mods/admins/cooks etc (i hope i have not left anyone out )
Greetings
Keep in mind that *almost all* of the ROMs available here on the diamond forum are for the GSM version of the diamond, NOT the CDMA version (which is what the TELUS model is). Good luck with you research.

Hi,
I do know that's more or less an old topic but well...I have a big dilemma so maybe you should help me out.
I'm owning a SGS3 int. and well I'm more or less fine with it; I choosed it over HOX mainly because of chance to change battery and winner cpu/ram benchmark (with 15/20% more in every damn test) and a bigger screen (not much but better then nothing).
The dilemma started 1 week ago when a friend of mine bought the HOX and well...the screen seems really so much better in HOX.
At the same time, despite few games lag on HOX, the Tegra has some optimized game for it giving some cool effect.
I mainly use the phone to watch movie and play videogames so, in some way, HOX win for me (at least just watching it) so I was thinking to chance my SGS3 for an HOX but I wanted to ear your opinion, hoping that will not start flame or fan boy reply.
I am really interested in opnions of who maybe tried both or who maybe changed his SGS3 for the HOX (like I'll probably do asap).
Thanks,
Max

There have already been similar threads like this one you should really go searching for them. Cause frankly everyone on this forum is sick of it.
tons of info in the One X mega information thread
and shadehh is right please enough with these comparison threads, they are against XDA rules
few moments now and this thread will be flooded by fools
to mods: we need a sticky please saying comparison threads are not allowed
You have a SGS3 so you already know its strengths and weaknesses. Your friend has a One X so you can figure out what its strengths and weaknesses are specific to the way you'll use it. Like others just said, there are tons of threads discussing the two phones. That should be more than enough for you to make an informed decision. Personally, I don't get "what should I buy?" threads. Everyone uses their phones differently and has different needs and criteria. Do some research and buy what you think is best. That seems more logical than making a decision based on the advice of total strangers.
well i had an amoled screen before and i got to tell u that i prefer the LCD. i am more with ur opinion but that wouldnt make me change the s3 is the battery .it is something that some times u want to have more than anything else.thats the only minus in hox the battery everything else i think are the same with s3

Actually we need some good discussion thread with protagonists antagonists for each phone where every one can say what it is they like about their phone (or disliked on the other).
Anyway I bought the HOX before the SGS3 came out but before the SGS3 came out I already knew Samsung would blow HTC away with its hardware specs but I own a SGS2 and a Desire so I know a bit about the difference in user experience and the whole time I used the SGS2 I was disappointed because i missed all those little Sense touches. Sense just is the best mobile user experience period, nothing comes close in software polishedness (not "even" ios), everything just works and everything is integrated into each other; eg. open the gallery app and see the galleries from your friends there, or browse contacts and go directly to their galleries, the htc keyboard is pretty damn good; I bought swiftkey x when using the sgs2 but I am using just the default keyboard; duplicate contacts are automatically merged in sense; and there is so, so much more; really there is only one touchwiz feature I miss in Sense and that's the smart alarm function....
If your thing is showing of quadrant scores though don't get the hox

The rules sticky already says that. It's just that no-one ever reads it.
SGS3 Sucks . If you are not a fanboy sell it and get HOX . I have used both.

But hasn't this been done? To death? It's all just opinion and there's rarely agreement amongst owners better yet any type of common ground that would hold up in a comparison. Name one feature of the SGS3 or One X that doesn't already have commentary running on it. I don't know whether I'm a protagonist or antagonist (maybe I'm both?) but I'm tired of the circular debates that lead nowhere, don’t change anyone's opinion, and consistently end with the thread being locked. Yesterday's One X vs. SGS3 comparison thread covered race and sexual orientation. Do you really want to go there again?
There’s already a 160 page SGS3 vs. One X comparison thread in the i9300 forum. Why doesn’t everyone use that as the “official” comparison thread? I guarantee you anything anyone wants to discuss has been covered at least a dozen times there.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1652250
because for each and everyone it's a different discussion, everyone has their own things they think are important and their own things they think are less important
Thread closed.
Comparison thread are finish.
Alright folks,
As a Customer Service Associate for a Sprint Preferred Retailer I'm supposed to know it all right? So I feel like a dummy for coming and asking for help from you guys the community, not a true tech issue but related. I've already ordered my LGOG (I got one of only 100 that were made available through our insider channel and now I'm just waiting on it to ship and arrive) but I'm kinda wondering a few things and maybe looking for opinions from the community, so I'll throw out what I wanna know and if you guys could help me out that'd be awesome.
First off, I have a few apps that I know I'm going to HAVE to have to make sure I can not only sell the phone itself but also the Sprint Service as a whole. I haven't ever gotten anything like a benchmark test app before so I need to know what the best benchmark app out there is (to have on hand for people who are REALLY deep techie types who wanna know about benchmark speeds and what not) that's not only easy to understand but not too tough on battery life?
Second, this is a very deep and I'm sure very divisive question but if you guys could give me some of the best pros and cons on the best launchers out there for the Optimus G. Not saying I'm going to go away from the stock one but if I wanted to show off the phone in a different way, what ones would give me the best of just about everything from being able to be customized to not slowing down the phone or draining the battery?
Third, on the flip side from question 1, are there any apps I should be looking into to replace the stock apps (i.e. camera, default SMS app, etc) and are there any that you guys think can really showcase the abilities of the phone as a whole that you would recommend downloading?
In advance I wanna say thanks to any and all of you who choose to answer, I'm new to the Optimus G community, coming over from a Samsung Epic 4g with RandomROM but I look forward to any info or opinions you all can give me.
Thanks again.

Most people prefer to use Quadrant/Antutu to benchmark their devices. These benchmarks have been known to be somewhat inaccurate and not reflect real world usage, but it's enough to satisfy the techie nerds at your store.
I think the best launcher is Nova Launcher, but it completely varies from person to person. Go Launcher EX is also a good one. I haven't played around with the stock launcher on the LG Optimus, yet. So I'm can't comment on that.
Thing is, about question 3, cameras function on both hardware and software. You can have the hardware for a perfect camera, but software can limit you. I've heard HDR camera and camera ZOOM fx are really good and puts your camera on the edge. I would try both of those out (I think Camera FX zoom is a paid app.)

I just got a free upgrade from my insurance company from the m7 to the m8. I'm pretty pumped because I've watched a TON of reviews and comparisons for this phone and, besides battery life, I quite enjoyed my m7 for the time I had it.
I am just curious what are your opinions on your M8's. What do you like? What don't you like? What problems have you noticed and then found a fix for? Which rom do you prefer using? (I was using Venom)
And anything else you think a new M8 user should know.
Thanks
So you make duplicate threads that are actually kinda useless. It's all about what you think of the phone .....

First off, I didn't know all of my questions were already in a thread. So there's that.
Secondly, I know it's what I think of a phone, but before I buy a car, I'd be stupid not to ask someone who has owned one for a few months and has toyed around with it.

I believe he thought you made 2 threads asking the same question (duplicate posts, or cross posting), but it looked like your thread was actually moved here from the "General" section, as I'm pretty sure I saw it there earlier. Although similar content (opinions on the phone) can likely be found in several other threads.
The M8 is a wonderful phone. I can't personally speak of comparisons with the M7, since I basically "skipped" a generation and came from the One X (EVITA). But I've seen folks mention that the M7 had issues with blue or purple tint to photos, which is not an issue on the M8.
I love the front facing speakers, and overall build quality. Nice display, and responsiveness is very smooth and snappy. Not really anything I don't like about the phone.
Some folks complain about the camera (MP), but I think many of them are obssessed with meaningless spec numbers as opposed to looking at the actual quality of the pics that are taken. If you look at the picture threads, they basically speak for themselves in terms of what can be done on this camera. The dual camera is a kinda cool, if a little gimmicky.
Hey there.
Recently i went over to CM12 on my LG G3, the move has been great, but has come with a price.
I have googled around, and im sure im not the only person with wishes as far as the camera on the G3, but i have not been able to find the answer i am looking for.
My main issue is that the camera has become almost put back to the stone age. All looks "decent" , but once you zoom in, my god, its like looking at PC game from the late 80s. Pixelated and useless.
I dont care about 120fps video or higher then stock quality, im just looking if there is any way at all to make this better?
I have tested a few app based camera solutions, and it does seem this is a driver thing, which i know from reading around isnt just so, but maybe my searchings arnt bringing up the full picture, so i thought i would ask here.
Hi, the short answer is no. This has been the main issue for people to move to AOSP or CM.
There are plenty of threads discussing about this issue.
Sorry for not having better news.
Only option is to use a stock based ROM.
