[App] [Req] Location On/Off Toggle - Sony Smartwatch 3

As we all know, leaving Location On eats up massive battery life on the watch, and I certainly only need it ON for my runs without my phone. Going into the Settings each time to turn it on and off is a 7 step process each time, which is crazy.
Any chance that a clever developer out there can create a simple Location On/Off Toggle app?

With taskerwear and tasker You can Create IT yourself

Hello,
Does taskerwear give the possibility to trigger anything on an app launch ?
I mean, it could be great to launch the gps at each running app launch and stop it when it's closed.
Kind regards,

Yes, Tasker is able to do this on phone. There is also a Plugin called App detection which can check if app is running in background. And Switch Off gps if the app that needs it is closed. But so far i know, there is none for apps running on the smartwatch. So i think you can toogle gps on the watch only manually per tasker widget on the smartwatch. I have many tasker profiles on my phone, but with taskerwear i am just working for some weeks.

[Q] task killer needed yes/no? how much power does gps consume?

ok so....
1st question - is a task killer necessary with this phone. im happy with its battery life but, of course, the more the better. Does having loads of apps open actually use more battery life?
2nd question - every time i start up google maps, it starts up the gps. If i leave google maps - of course it runs in the background as 1 of the tasks, and therefore gps is left on.
so similar sort of question....if the answer to the 1st question is 'no'.....does having gps on permanently suck more battery life?
if the answer to the 2nd question is 'yes'....is there an app that will switch off gps when its not in use by google maps.
thanks.
Task killers are NOT needed and haven't been needed since.. 2.0?
GPS doesn't run unless you are using an app in the foreground that uses it. When you see the icon in your notification bar, that's when GPS is running.
The answer was no, but you can still use apps like Tasker to turn GPS on/off when not in Google Maps.

Don't use a killer. Leave GPS on.

I've not noticed any battery improvements from turning GPS off.
GPS is not running when you leave Google maps. The only time the GPS is ever running is when you see that icon at the top. Its unnecessary to manually turn GPS on and off.
Task killers don't help IMO. I use system panel to see what's going on as its by far the best task app on android.

automate GPS with maps

Hey guys so I was wondering is there an app (other than tasker) or rom that will automatically turn on GPS when you open the maps/camera application instead of having to turn it on manually all the time? and turn it off once you close / kill the app?.. I think this would be an awesome feature!.
I'm on cm9a6 if there's a way to currently do it?.. or can i leave my GPS on constantly without having the battery drain?. anyway. just a though.

gps turns on automatically whenever an app needs to use it. everytime you open up maps or facebook or camera, gps will turn on by itself as long as you have it enabled. it also turns off by itself when the app that was using gps closes. this is how android has always worked.
Exactly, sometimes it doesn't turn off though once you close out. Just check if you don't want it to stay on.
I thought that's how it worked but how come when I have the Gps set on (checked in the wireless settings) and its not being used, that my battery still drains like no other?.

Automatically disable data during the night on cm10?

Hi,
As I am losing 20% overnight (which means no alarm clock in the morning) I need something to save my battery.
Maybe it is possible?
I would like an app which turns off:
- wifi
- Data
- Changes to 2g
Maybe something else?
Thanks!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Just manually turn off data before you go to bed?
Or plug the phone in...
Or... buy an alarm clock? There's an idea .
I believe CM10 has this setting under "Night Mode". Try searching in your settings for that. I would give you a more specific answer, but right now I'm not running CM10, but a lot of other roms have this option. It allows you to set the times and apply certain data and toggle settings. Then again, I could be completely off and CM10 might not have this.
I know Airplane mode would disable all carrier connections, but that still leaves WiFi. For that, could you not simply disable WiFi itself?
Go into profile and edit the night profile and you'll be set

Thanks!!!! But how to switch profiles automatically?
Do i need to go to settings each tim? No shortcut?

You can look into using an app called Tasker. It has a vast array of useful tasks that can be automated.
There's an app called LLAMA, which should work.

Already installing.
Thanks!
Llama is totally great!!!
Not sure if it is a best solution and what are the alternatives. But I love Llama now.
I confgured 4 events (home, home night, work, outside work or home) and testing them.
Switching between events is a bit laggy but seems to work.

Even with data etc on, the phone certainly shouldn't eat that much battery over night. Find what's the true cause (poor app) instead.

personally i use an app called Green Power that you can set times and modes for that disables data when the screens been off long enough and a number of other useful features to help with battery life.

Searching using GPS... the source?

This is driving me nuts!!! Since a few days ago every time I'm away from home at work, I get GPS blinking notification with ongoing message of "Searching using GPS..." while it's draining my battery like crazy. I'm not a noob, My phone is very light on apps, Google Now is disabled, Google location service is disabled, only one weather app and I disabled using GPS in there. Tried using GSam Battery Monitor to see if I can narrow it down - no help. Switched from 4G to wifi, still nothing. Of course I can turn GPS off for a problem to go away since i only use GPS in the car. But the problem is that I had my Note 2 for 3+ months and never had this issue before. Plus, I haven't installed any new app in at least 2 months. No life wallpaper, no fancy widgets that drain your resource, no social medial connection what so ever. All stock, not rooted. Using Nova Prime launcher, and a few widgets like Smooth Calendar, Circle Launcher, Rings Digital Weather Clock (with weather disabled), Fast Boot widget, Widgetsoid, Zooper Widget, and Android Weaither (GPS disabled).
That all that I have. Any idea how to resolve this?
Maps. Look in my guide to minimize the drain caused by it. But the best solution is to disable gps.

Funny that I had all that map stuff disabled, and it was still searching for GPS. But as soon as I stepped outside of the building where I work - it stopped. So something was trying to update location through GPS and could lock into the signal, thus searching and draining battery. Only happens in the building where I work. I guess the easy solution is to toggle GPS on/off. But still, would be good to find a source of which app or service is doing that pinging...
Try better battery status

Anyone using Tasker in their Pixel?

I've been loving my pixel and the stock Android experience from an iPhone. Always heard about Tasker but never done into it. Any here use it? Able to share your most used profiles and tasks?
Sent from my Pixel 3 XL using Tapatalk
I'm actually a Pixel 2 XL owner but I do use Tasker.
I have several profiles that include:
- Turn WiFi on when I get home
- Turn off mobile data when on WiFi/re-enable when off WiFi
- Lots of file management (putting pictures/videos into the folders of my choosing)
- Turning Bluetooth off after a few minutes if nothing is connected to it
- Show or hide the mobile data icon in the status bar depending on its status
- Disable notifications and enter DND mode when in certain apps such as Google Maps or Instagram
To name a few lol.
I love Tasker, it's definitely my favourite app and the biggest reason it's worth owning an Android over iPhone in my opinion.
If you're new to it, I suggest Googling, a lot. That's how I got started and I've come a long way since!
I used Tasker until I got my pixel 3 XL, which is when I discovered this app called "MacroDroid". It does the same things as Tasker, but the interface is a lot more simpler and intuitive. You should check it out!
I have one that is suppose to automatically cut on my wifi when I range but it's not working. Guess I'll look online again thanks

I use Tasker on my 3XL.
Mainly it disables WIFI, turns off notifications, and starts my music app when I'm in my car, mutes my phone when in meetings, and disables notifications when I have headphones on or connected to my Bluetooth speakers.
I've used Tasker since my first Android device years and years ago. Mute ringer at work (calendar based), start/stop music when my BT headphones are connected/disconnected, change screen timeout for some apps (keep it on longer for ones I specify, 30 seconds for everything else), lock screen rotation in some apps and not others, etc.
It's a steep learning curve but once you get the hang of it you can do some pretty neat stuff.
I need a setting that puts my 3XL into HSPA+ instead of LTE while at work. I have LTE signal, but it's unusable due to others syncinc constantly. HSPA+ runs fine. I can't find an app that's able to do this. I can't even find a widget that will let me make this toggle quickly without rooting.
On this week's podcast...
https://twit.tv/shows/all-about-android/episodes/395?autostart=false
They talked about Tasker and things changing come January 1st...
.
It's a good show when they 'luck out' and get an honest to goodness developer to share thoughts.
I use it to automatically toggle Always On Display. Requires Secure Settings app and root. Basically I make sure it's off when I go to bed and on when the phone is docked in my car (when connected to my car's BT). Used to do a lot more but haven't really needed anything else.
Able to share how you disable wifi? I know theres in option in the settings to only connect to saved networks but it requires wifi scanning to be on. I set up a profile but I don't think it's working. Doesn't turn off my wifi when I leave my network

When you are in your task, click the PLUS to add an action, NET, then WiFi. You can then set it to ON, OFF, or TOGGLE.
Hope that helps.
Must have for an Android, my opinion.
Pixel phone or not. Tasker is in my opinion one of the must have android apps there. It is also one of the best. There can be a small learning curve for new users but once you are in it: oof! The possibilities even without root are amazing! I have been using Tasker since the Samsung Galaxy S3. I remember using the APK version downloaded in early years. But bought the paid some years ago. It is worth it. Seriously.
I have that. I have it set to OFF. Once I get to the main page I long press the task and select "move to exit". Maybe that's where I'm messing up at?

I used to use Tasker for SO MUCH.
Biggest thing I did was that I had automated turning wifi on once I was "close" to home, then once it connected to wifi - turn on ringers, screen brightness, turn off gps, etc (and similarly for going to work).
It helped a LOT with battery back in the day to make sure that GPS was only on when I needed it.
But now I am trying to let android handle that GPS stuff. I noticed in our settings with Pixel / Pie that there isn't even a "battery saving" location mode anymore! You can still try to turn it on via Tasker (after you have given Tasker secure settings permissions) but I am not sure what it really does in that case.
Moving on from that situation, I still use tasker for simpler things such as "profiles" for at work and at home.
And screen rotation only on certain apps, etc.
A side note --- it seems that you really don't need ROOT for much at all anymore, as long as you are willing to hook up to a computer and do some ADB commands to get the secure settings permission, that's really it.
Anyone else have cool ideas to do with Tasker?
WiFi and location one you mentioned are what I want. Ha e the location one set you but need to grant permission. Need to get a cable to sync

Yeah you are correct, the location needs the secure settings permissions. It's real easy to do though.
Since we now only have location ON or OFF (not sure if that is from Pixel, or Android P)
- I don't know if it's worth messing with? (we used to have "High Accuracy (GPS and other connectivity on phone), "Battery Saving" (was cell tower locationing only), "GPS ONLY" (not sure why one would pick that and not the high accuracy)
Unless you want to flat out turn location off when not on GPS (I used to go between battery saving and high accuracy -- and it seems like tasker might let you force that still? I'm just not sure)
Also I think having wifi ON the whole time is really not a battery drain at all anymore.
I say this because I believe there is a bit of a battery drain to have tasker checking all of this stuff all of the time.
I could be incorrect though, hopefully someone clarifies if I am wrong on this.

I use 4G LTE Switch to stay in LTE at work, but I think HSPA+ is one of the options you can select to lock into.

I noticed a difference in battery life when I turned high accuracy off. Forgot I had it off when I used GPS the other day and it was still a accurate. May just leave it off for good
