[Q] CM12 dark theme with themed message app and drawer?

Hi, I kept searching for a dark theme (not completely black, only dark) that would have the message app and app drawer also dark but couldn't find one. All of them had light background for that anyone found one? Thanks!

Black settings... and black other menu screens

Is there an Xposed module or some other way that anyone knows of to make the Settings black themed instead of white?
The amount of light that occurs with the white background sometimes hurts to look at.
Is there a night mode or something that I can do (other than flash a custom ROM)?
Thanks in advance.
Download and apply a dark theme off the theme store and it will turn the settings and toggles all dark.
Thanks! There's nothing in xposed that can do that though? I didn't see anything, but I didn't want to have to look inside every single module?
Answer found.
Care to share?
Sure. I could NOT find an Xposed module that did this (although I would think it to be really simple).
So I ended up just using the free Samsung theme that looked like space. Really neat - themes a lot more than just the settings.
I had trouble locating the Samsung theme app in Apex, but once you log into your Samsung account, I believe it brought it up.
Was definitely worth checking into.
Thanks for the help.

I'm using SkyofIllusion, but I downloaded ForestofIllusion too, but I don't like that the mystical deer is only shown on the lockscreen and disappears when you unlock the device.
Both good dark choices that apply in all the right places.

This is the Hologram theme which is a good alternate dark theme. It's not just a black background but uses background images.

THEMES, Overlays and Such

In light of the fact there's no real root I figured I must DO something to this phone! I MUST make it different than Samsung intended. I was going thru withdrawal. Really. I got to messing around with different Samsung themes (black is Always Right and all of that developers dark themes are pretty dope..btw); but I found in the process many of the s8 unrooted mods usually work. Do some research but I've personally used better nav colors, remove lock text, remove lock carrier name, more precise animation scale, transparent qs, different nav buttons etc. And they are mostly apks, so no struggle. At all. Overlay apks also work too.
Not taking credit for any of this and props to the developer/s. I'm just sharing. Here's a link to one of the best list I've found.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/themes/mods-small-collection-tweaks-t3657119
Even though it's a substratum thread the mods work without it. I tried substratum but it didn't play nice with my phone. Look for s8 threads in theme section by tigerhood and also clck. Most of their apks work on our phone.
Anyway maybe this is common knowledge but i couldn't find it anywhere else on the board so don't roast me if its nothing special. Lol
Thanks for this link, I have been looking and waiting for a long time for a way to hide the clock and battery icon in the status bar and this mod worked perfectly.

Lots of options for nav bar.
Here is a list of nav bar layers plus many more.

With substratum you have lots of choices too.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8+/themes/substratum-inversion-ui-overlay-overlays-t3604341
Most of these work. Check the links at the bottom too. I can't remember where I got my nav shown in the picture but I've had no issues with any. Only ones seems not to work are those that try to adjust the nav bar height. It doesn't break anything you just don't see any change in the size.
Other than that you have to reinstall all your overlays again if you change your theme.
Nav bar shown apk below. Works 100%
Again, I take no credit for these and props to the developer/s.
The closest I can get to all black UI is by using Mini Black Edition V2 from the Samsung theme store and Swift Black overlays. I still have white pull down notifications and white nav bar when the keyboard is shown.
Is there a way to black out the pull down notifications and nav bar while the keyboard is shown ?
There's an apk around on one of the links I posted or somewhere else, I can't remember, with an overlay that gives you a black notification panel. It looks really nice, but you can't see the text on notifications very well.
For the black nav bar use the following by Draco.
Edit: first post on this link is the best list I've found. I've tried many of them and they work just fine. Props to the developers and the member who pulled them all together in one place.

Looks good don't it? All courtesy of the links posted. Honestly with these mods, there's really no need for root. So until we get full root this is the set up.
Thank you for this post!

Use any of the ones that are system ui black notification. It should say that or something like that when you install. Then install the custom grey/ black notification. Or use any of the grey notification only ones and then the custom grey/ black

Advice for Substratum black theme on stock rooted 8.1

Hi guys,
I've been using the AOSPUI black theme on my Nexus 6P and it worked fine on Nougat.
I now have a Pixel 2 XL on stock rooted Oreo 8.1. The same theme behaves in a weird way and some pop-up windows and the power menu have black on black text. I reached out to the dev and he says it should work properly but I can't seem to be able to make it work.
Now I'm looking for another black theme that works flawlessly on stock rooted. Found a few but need some advice, so would you get:
- Swift black,
- Pi Dark,
- Flux,
- something else?
I need a black theme where EVERYTHING works. Free themes are also welcome.
Thanks!

Swift Black works for me very well. But the first time you install a theme, you can run into weird problems because the theme hasn't been updated for the newest version of the Google apps yet.
When I did a clean install last week, Swift Black wouldn't theme my Google app. An update a few days later fixed this.
So I disable automatic updates and wait for a Swift Black update after the apps which I have themed are updated. This way it alsways works with Swift Black.
But to theme GBoard, you need to read the FAQ (some manual steps are required).
Hope that helps.

Domination is another outstanding black theme that gets updated regularly. Also, keep in mind that it's ok to use overlays from different themes on certain apps while your waiting for theme updates should your base theme not work on a particular app :good:
Swift black FTW

I use Swift Black for system UI and settings, Compound for phone. Swift Black leaves a huge blue frame on the dialer UI for me. Looks horrid.

I don't theme Google apps actually. My problem is with the "Android system" overlay on my theme.

Like I said above, the only overlay that gives me trouble is the "Android system" one. If I activate it (black with Pixel accent colors), my pop-up windows are black on black and my power menu blue on blue, i.e. I can't see any text. It's odd, it worked well on Nougat.
Edit: I wonder if it's the automatic (and stupid) day/night mode from Oreo that's being a PITA? Because my current wallpaper is dark and it triggers the dark mode for some stuff. Why did Google add this and not a toggle to enable/disable it?!

I think the only elements that are affected by the wallpaper theme (auto dark/light mode) are quick settings and notification bar.

It also themes the power menu, which is one of the areas that don't get themed properly. I also switched to a light wallpaper and all my QS were gone (probably black on black again)! Something is definitely fishy on Oreo :/

I don't have the issue you describe using Swift Black for system.
Same here, I'm 100% stock using swift black and couldn't be happier. No issues at all.
I'm guessing Swift Black is the winner here!
About the power menu, it's actually the advanced power menu that isn't themed properly (the one added by Gravity Box through Xposed). And also random pop-up windows like when I'm connecting a Bluetooth device.
I use Spectrum as my main theme. Domination is my second theme and is used to theme apps that Spectrum doesn't, such as XDA Labs. It also is used for the Google apps when Spectrum can't theme the app, though that can be hit or miss. For example, Photos cannot be changed to black by either theme at the moment.
Google seems to update their apps every other day, which gives the themers headaches. Of course, in Android P it may all end up being moot.
PitchBlack is my go theme... Updates regularly and plenty options..

Are you creating the modules then rebooting before applying? Since March update that's what you need to do. The modules will show up after rebooting.

I'm creating the overlays using the "build & update" option then rebooting and applying them. If you don't reboot, they don't show up in the Substratum manager.
Right now, I'm waiting to get a payment from Rewards so I can buy one theme or two. We'll see.

I disabled all overlays, rebooted, everything was stock theme. Did build and enable for swift black, rebooted, (twice) everything but contacts and phone is themed. Did this quickly this morning before work, maybe a error on my part. Will try again tonight.

I would delete the overlays before rebuilding them.
On my Pixel 2 XL stock (Not Rooted) I still have to Build/Enable and then reboot and enable again. Does anyone else have this issue? I should not need to "Enable" overlays twice.

White is of the new phone app if you want you can disable your phone app and download the latest from playstore and make it default app for phone, you will achieve the white screen and also there is a dark mode too
Try shift installer for themes customization and app theming
