Hi,
late to the party i know, but i am just starting with tasker.
anyone here with a dual sim phone using tasker?
normal timer and alarm stuff is working fine as well as integration with zooper widget
i am trying to set up a location dependant set of tasks using 'cell near' but nothing was happening.
after many trys and settings and (of course) googling, i realised that my main sim was in slot 2 and slot 1 was switched off (it mostly is as its foreign).
when i turned on sim1 it all started to happen and the cell towers were found instantly.
are there any special functions/apps that can control the use of sim slots for various tasks and settings?
thanks.
I am also looking for some similar solution for my One Plus 2 phone with Dual Sim. If you found something please do share the same here.

Bad dual sim management
Better late than never, right?
You find "dual sim management" in the phone's settings.
This is where you can activate and deactivate each sim and where you set the preferred sim for mobile data.
So, yes, you can easily switch the sim that's being used for mobile data.. However, the BIG restriction is, that the sim 2 radio only supports 2G (up to EDGE). So, in order to use high speed internet from the provider whose sim is located in slot 2 you actually have to swap the sim cards. Also, there's no way to automatically switch to the other network's mobile data in case you lose mobile data coverage on the preset network . You really have to tell the phone manually which network to use.
Another big issue for me is that I can't preset the network I use for calls. So, my sim 1 is for data only. sim 2 is for voice calls and texts. Remember: it has to be this way because only sim 1 supports 3G/4G. Now, when I initiate a call via voice or via my car's bluetooth unit the phone automatically tries to use sim 1 as the default for calls. I can't set it up to use sim 2 as the default call handler and there's no dialogue asking me which sim to use like when I dial manually. That's really bad, all other companies that offer dual sim phones have better management options in their software's settings.
I tried using alternative phone apps which give you the option of choosing a default sim for calls but this only works for voice-dialing; bluetooth still overrides the alternative dialer and always goes with the stock one.
I hope this helps - so actually I'd advice agaist the M8 dual sim despite it being beautiful and having really good hardware.

Hey champs,
I got a strange issue with the swift. Last year I bought 3 Swifts for my wfe and kids. All of them equipped with two SIMs (1&1 for wired phone connections only, Simyo for cheap data flatrate and calls to mobile phone numbers). All phones have been upgraded to Android 6 so far. We use dual sim selector pro to do the call routing to the correct SIM, works like a charme. But regardless what I set in mobile data settings, after reboot the mobile data will always connect to 1&1 mobile networks (in fact it is vodafone) giving us one time a very high bill.
In the meantime I amended the vodafone APN to get rid of it, but this only leads to the situation, that after a reboot there is no mobile data at all. And since my son's phone is locked by funamo parental control, he is even not capable of swithcing mobile data by the settings.
Is there any chance to make the setting permanent? Is there any API call available, so I can get it managed e.g. by tasker? Is there an app available, that deals with data settings on dual SIM phones with Qualcom chipset?
Tnx in advance!
Glad to see I am not the only one with a problem, I live in Spain and use Orange SIM for data and voice, I also have a tesco voice only SIM which I use when in UK. Fine. I have exactly the same problem after a reboot or flat battery, "No Data Connection" when I check the settings it has changed to Tesco (which does not have data) Its only the data scource SIM that changes - voice and SMS remain as Orange. It is very annoying.
Same problem here with stock Android 6.0.1 Cyanogen OS 13.0-ZNH0EAS2NH and EE sims in slot 1 and 2... (one work and other personal).
Was thinking of returning phone, but apart from this problem, I really like it.
Latest Cyanogen OS update, (just installed), appears to have fixed my problem...
I updated, did a battery pull just for good measure, and with several restarts, the correct SIM appears to be selected each time.
Thinking of getting a 5T (or maybe 6 depending on timing) and have never had a dual-SIM phone. I would have one SIM card for my U.S. Cricket account and use the other slot for a pay-as-you-go "travel SIM" for use in Europe.
So are there settings or a built-in app provided so that I can activate one card at a time? I know it's possible to have both in "standby," but that's not practical in this case since I wouldn't want one of the cards causing the phone to be searching for a tower constantly -- a real battery-killer. I also would want to be able to assign one or the other for data, etc. (The particular travel SIM I have in mind will actually work in the U.S., but then I'd be paying per call, text, and data chunk).
You can enable or disable each card independently. You can choose a default SIM for calling, messaging, and data. The built in messaging app also lets you choose what card to send from with a convenient button in the text entry field. I have attached some screenshots that show the SIM options in the settings menu. I've been using dual SIM for a few days now and find it very easy to manage. Hopefully this answered all your questions.
Perfect answer. Thanks!
Hi,
Since the update of my Xperia XZ2 compact Dual SIM (German version) to Android Pie that every few hours I notice that it complaints it is in "roaming". This because for some strange reason it moves the default SIM for data, sms and phone to the second SIM, which is for another country. I've then to move the default back to my primary SIM and works normally for some more hours.
I could not yet find what triggers this switch.
Anyone else suffering from the same problem?
Cheers,
Miguel Anjo

All dual sim standby phones does not have a 'hard switch'. Factors like there not being reception or you used up all the data/messages/phone minute bucket on one sim and it not being able to connect would make some phones try the other sim since it is juat a 'prefered network' that you choose. But our xz2 has been pretty hard on staying to the sim we chose. Most people use sims on entirely different networks, if you can, try disabling roaming on either or both and it might stick to one.
I just didnt like how aftee restarting the OS the prefered phone call network alway goes back to the one chosen for data. Always have to manually switch it back after every restart..
I just started a new job and have a new (additional) number. I have my own sim in tray one & work in sim tray two. SMS & Data are on sim 1... I have been through my most common contacts and associated them to the relevant sim.
All was working fine for a few days (using android Auto on phone, not car stereo), but after an Android Auto update two days ago, the app won't allow calls to connect... It just stalls. If I quit the AA app, the call then connects.
Anyone found a workaround or even a solution? It's quite important to me....
