I rooted my Droid Incredible today using Unrevoked's one-click rooting process. The whole purpose of doing so was so I could use the wireless tethering feature. However, now that I have successfully rooted the device, I cannot get ANY application to work. I have used numerous programs found within the Android Market (Barnacle, etc etc) and have also tried the tether application that comes pre-installed with Android 2.2.
When I activate the wireless tether, the wireless network does not appear so other devices can connect to it.
I have searched the forums inside and out. I have tried the ##778 method suggested in this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752687 and it did not fix my problem.
Any and ALL help is deeply appreciated! Thanks in advance for your time.

I checked that thread you mentioned and it didn't seem very thorough. Here's something that I wrote on Android Forums that works for non-rooted Incredibles:
This works great on my Incredible. No rooting required, but you must have the 2.2 update which enables the 3G Mobile Hotspot on the device.
1. Select "Phone"
2. Dial "##778"
3. Select "Edit Mode" on pop-up dialog box
4. Enter "000000" for Please Enter Password (unless you manually changed your password to something else)
5. Select "Security"
6. Select "S.IP DUN User Name"
7. Delete the "dun." part of the number (ie: it should read as: [yourmobilenumber]@vzw3g.com)
8. Select "OK"
9. Press the "BACK" button
10. Select "M.IP Default Profile"
11. Select "DUN NAI"
12. Delete the ".dun" part of the number (ie: it should read as: [yourmobilenumber]@vzw3g.com)
13. Select "OK"
14. Press the "MENU" button
15. Select "Commit Modifications"
16. The phone will reset
17. Once booted, go into "All Programs", select the "3G Mobile Hotspot", Adjust your "Router Name" and "Password" (if you desire, but recommmended), and change the security to WPA(TKIP) (this is the only setting I've tried so far-other posts said the WPA2 is buggy)
18. Select "3G Mobile Hotspot - Press to turn on" (It will prompt you that you need the Verizon Mobile Hotspot Feature- just hit "Do not remind me again" and "OK") (Also, I am using Windows 7x64, and the wifi picked up the signal right away, but it took a moment to identify-but it connected to the internet cleanly and the connection is fast).
It can't hurt.

doesnt work for me, sorry
don't use the verizon wifi hotspot application. you need to install the corresponding kernel (Hydra stock undervolt is a good one for Sense) and Wireless Tether.apk to get it to work properly.

I ran unrevoked, rooted my Incredible, and installed Wifi Tether and it has been working flawlessly for me. I didn't do anything with a custom kernel.
What I had to do to get the app to work, is I had to go grab an older version of wifi tether from the developers site and install the apk manually. After that, the newer market version started to work properly.
is ##778 a sense only thing? when I call that or ##778+ on miui I just get a call cannot be completed message

Yep,

All I did was run unrevoked and then get the wifi tether app.
Same here
Ran unrevoked then wireless tether-works great
Also did #778 - works fine too (only about 500k on either one)
huh, must have fixed the issue with the kernel since the last update. i remember that was one of the first things i did when i rooted was get the wireless tether working and i had to download Hydr kernel to get it going.

That worked perfectly! Thank you!
Thanks to everyone for suggestions
last night I was reading online comics and it suddenly not respond so I force it restart and it was worse. My kindle cannot recognize my touching.
It is strange that TWRP still works. Restoring doesn't helps, too.
So I wipe it all(except for sdcard) and install various cm9 and cm7 with corresponding kernels from hashcode with no luck. Cm9 is ok but without wifi. Cm7 just wont respond.
Also I tried using TWRP to go back to pure stock and wifi still not working. So I redo all the root, twrp again.
Finally I fix permissions and install cm7 aka now it's screen recognize my touching but the wifi still cannot be turned on.
Is it possible wifi chip has been broken?
Any one can help me, THANKS!?
hey everyone, do u have any suggestions......
now, as long as I open wifi it goes dead. I don't know what to do. Is it possible that due to heavy use the chip gets break down?
I was wondering what remains the same after I flash roms. Because installing zip has formatted boot, data and system.
I hard off the device when the wifi went wrong. And the application in which led to this situation cannot be reinstalled(install said OK but openning it the screen was black, still responding to button savior).
So maybe the problem lies in the internal storage that is unchangeable. Any one helps!? Or should I contact amazon CS?

But why the wifi still cannot be turned on? yes, it is when I using the app the wifi connection seems to be unstable, and I pressed the power button for 20 seconds.
Thanks for your reply.
would try to clean up the wifi configuration:

look for /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
open the file and delete everything except the first two lines, they are:

update_config=1

Thanks all the same.
I used root explorer to search for wap_supplicant.conf since it's not in that folder and delete everything except the first two lines. (forget to mention that my wifi just shows turning on and I can't do anything, flash new roms won't help.)
Then I reboot it the result remains same.......
did you try to restart your router ?
because i have this sometimes with the stock rom - wifi tries to connect and can't - all my other devices work fine - i use to reboot to router and the kf is connecting immediately again

I'm sure it has nothing to do with my router. because I live on campus and use school wifi. wifi is in the state of turning on since booting. regardless of flashing new roms.
thanks for your reply.
just closing out all known issues ...
but nearly running out of ideas at this point
maybe something on your sdcard partition ? - i know it sounds crazy but i had a case where the fresh installed rom did not start until he copied the whole sdcard partition to computer as a backup and deleted everything (besides .android_secure and twrp folder)

I can only think of files remain unchangeable when flashing roms or wifi chip burned(hope not).

actually I'm just a noob. I don't know how to do a logcat and how to find the problem.
as you can't download it from the market, attached here is a logcat program
install it and you'll see a lot of debug lines - be shure to make or let make the kf a wifi connection attempt - save the log and attach it as .txt file to the thread - i'll take a look if i can see something to track down your problem
the thing is the wifi is turning on by default. no matter what I do. do u mean use some app which needs wifi?

im kinda curious if you find a fix. ive been struggling with terrible wifi connection with my kindle. itll turn on, but it constantly turns off then after a while wont connect anymore. just says obtaining wifi then doesnt connect just shows saved wifi connection. im almost to the point of giving it away. not sure if amazon will help me out, and i wouldnt sell it to someone if i know it has wifi connection issues. i try to reset my router and it helps for a little bit, but then goes back to the issues i had

Hello,
I am running Resurrection Remix v5.0.5-20140309 on my Note 2, upgraded from v5.0.2-20140212.
And since then, it doesn't connect to some WiFi networks like my home WiFi. When I activate WiFi, no automatic connection and when trigerring a manual connection from the WiFi menu, it directly to disabled state and doesn't even try to connect (it seems).
Hoewever, it connects normally to my work WiFi.
Note that my home wifi runs on 2,4GHz, my work wifi on both 2,4 and 5GHz.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks.

Go to the /data/misc/wifi/ way with a root file manager and open this text file name as wpa_supplicant.conf . Find your home wifi. Look the text "autojoin=" is 0 or 1. If it 0, change to 1.
Try it, maybe work.

No mention of autojoin in my wpa_applicant.conf file.
However, I don't know how, it happens that when I was editing the file, my device shows the WiFi icon on the header. But it disappeared right after and back to the same situation.

Actually it recreates the file from itself without the need of rebooting the phone. And the new file has all my previous known WiFi networks connection details.
But it still doesn't fix anything.

I have successfully rooted my xl with Magisk, and unlocked the wifi tether however, The connection seems to be somewhat superficial as the connected device doesn't have any INTERNET connection. I have tried connecting both a laptop and another phone to no avail.
I have tried 2 different methods of unlocking the tether:
Adding "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" to the prop build
Installing Magisk tether mod
Both methods worked equally as half-assed.
Foxfi and all those apps don't work, I have to activate the handset hotspot in order for them to work, but even then it only broadcasts the built-in ssid.
I have scoured the Internet for some clues, but I cannot find anything that relates to my issue recently or my phone specifically. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i have a Joying stereo that is nearly useless without wifi and i dont want to have to return my phone and go back to my m9.

I just did this same thing to the "T." It works.
Download the magisk module through magisk downloads tab and then hook up your phone. Launch a power shell or cmd window from your ADB and fastboot folder.
Type "adb shell"
Hit "enter"
Type "settings put global tether_dun_required 0"
type "reboot"
Hit "enter"
Should it be letting me share wifi connection too though? It lets me share a functioning data connection, but when I hook my pixel up to wifi, turn on the hot spot, connect a device to the pixels hotspot connection, and try getting on the the internet with the second device I don't have internet on it. The second device will show a wifi connection in the status bar. I'm not really worried about it because I think any time I use hotspot it's with a data connection, but I thought I should be able to share a wifi connection too.

It does turn off wifi. From my understanding it IS like that on every device that makes a hot spot. They only want you sharing a data connection. You can share wifi. Say you worked at a place that didn't want anything on their wifi except company devices. If you could share a wifi connection this would allow potentially malicious devices onto the network. That's why I think you can only share data. I think this is standard. If I'm wrong or if there is a work around to be able to share wifi hopefully someone will chime in and correct me.
Hi all,
I noticed that the BSA4 update has been released everywhere except Australia. I've been able to get my hands on the firmware files but do not know how to get the watch to connect with NetOdin.
Has anyone been able to do this? I've seen videos of it for the Gear S2 and Gear S3 but there is no way to "restart" the device, only "power off".
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
cheers,
Hieu.
Actually nevermind I managed to get it working on my own..
Nice going!
so where you get firmware....and how did you do it...give us a rundown
Hi, have you succeeded? Can you give us a tutorial so that everyone can enjoy it?
Sure guys. Will put something together later today after work. Getting my hands on the firmware took a bit of searching but managed to find it on a Russian forum.
Will provide a run down of the process and links to the firmware (note: only know where to download the firmware for the 46mm and 42mm Bluetooth version, not the LTE).
0. This process will factory reset your Watch, so make sure you've backed up everything you need!
1. Hold down the Home button for 6-10 seconds until the message " Rebooting ... "
2. Quickly press Home three times until the Reboot Menu appears. (The menu is available for about 10 seconds, after which the clock goes back to "Rebooting ...")
3. The menu selection is made by long holding Home button. To go into Download (wireless mode) press the home button until "Download (Wireless)" is highlighted, then hold down the Home button.
4. Download mode will load in WPS mode. Press Home twice to change the mode to the AP.
5. Connect to the access point that appears (for example, SM-R800-a2a5) (ODIN for some reason does not see the device if several networks are connected.)
6. Run NetOdin3 and then set the firmware files for BL, AP and CSC, then click Start (Copying/flashing of firmware takes about 20 minutes).
7. After the files are downloaded, the Watch will reboot. Again, hold Home and highlight & select Recovery in the Reboot menu.
8. The "Setting Up" screen and "Resetting" screen should appear and after that the Watch will reboot and boot as usual.
N.B. It is advisable to check whether you have disabled the function "find my watch" or make sure you remember the password to your Samsung Account

Restart both devices and try again is what I'd recommend. And disconnect from your home wifi that you're usually connected to on your PC first before trying to connect to your Watch's access point.

I've deleted all data about my home wifi in my computer, and it's the same problem, and if i connect via wps, it is exactly the same, any developper option to activate before ? like Android devices ?

I find connecting via AP is more stable than WPS. Give that a try.

Tested via AP, error after 5 seconds
Tested via WPS, error after 5 seconds
That is the problem, nothing to activate like developper options or other ?

Nothing. You don't need to activate anything in developer menu. Have you tried on another computer?
My connection is always stable on AP connection mode.
