I bricked my g2 while I wait for my replacement I purchased a s5 straight up complete with the case and sd card. I had become frustrations with lg and their lack of of friendliness towards development.
I prefer the G2 the s5 was super easy to root and apply the wifi tether mod. And the heart rate monitor is cool since I'm a gymrat and the added volume. However thats where it stops
G2 has better batterylife a better camera in normal light conditions just as fast and didnt realize how much I like knock on, the qslide apps A lot and the rear power button has grown on me
and the 4 extra hours of battery with the added 1 1/2 - 2 hours of on screen time I miss the g2
lg does not get enough credit for a awesome device
LG makes good phones, but as you said software/updates wise, is where they are lacking. AMOLED is over rated, in web surfing and general use it uses more power than LCD. Websurfing up 2x or more power due to white background.

I actually think LG's doing a decent job @ getting OTAs out. I've had 3 OTAs and the Sprint G2 came out in November.

I agree. I also like how organized the lg g2 Dev world is. Its nice to have mods and Roms that work on all variants. Which means now we have lots of devs technically working together. That's something I've never had in any other phone. Especially my s3 and s4.

I also tried the S5 for awhile, and am now back to my G2. Battery life is so much better on the G2, the camera is comparable, and Knock on/knock off now is indispensable to me... I just hope the QHD in the G3 doesn't end up reducing battery life compared to the G2!
Nice to know… thanks!!

Almost due.for an upgrade, will have to wait and see.uf.the G3 is worth upgrading...
I totally agree lacking in the software department, however LG since i bought the LG Optimous G is a very strong product, i had broke my LG Optimous G, 4 times and i bought it back 5 times, until i just recently upgraded to the LG G2 (gave the wife the Optimous G), hands down i love LG phones, my mom has a galaxy s4 and i just dont like it. good post by OP
just traded someone my S5 for the G2. there is a price difference but i felt the g2 was a better phone im happy with the switch
I have a quick question...I have a upgrade with Sprint and I have the HTC one right now. I'm trying to decide on weather to wait for the LG G3 or just go with the G2 because it seems like the battery life is better..Or just go with a M8 or S5 what do you guys think

I'm looking to finally replace my aging S3 with one of these devices. I've tried both in the store and both seem comfortable in my hands, so I'm mostly debating Nexus and updates vs. camera quality (mostly pictures/videos of children). Though having used amoled for my previous phones (S3 and Vibrant), I'm not sure how I feel about IPS, though the screen on the G4 does look better in the store.
I also have a Nexus 10 (bought for the screen resolution) and found the Samsung tablet interfaces almost unusable by comparison. Though Samsung phones haven't bothered me as much.
Any particular comparison points from people who have used both?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using XDA Free mobile app
Kinda depends on what is important to you. I have used the nexus 6 and they are a great phone. But being able to replace a battery and stick a microsd card in are important to me. Mainly because I am finding my devices are having a longer and longer life so the batteries dying becomes more noticeable.
Both phones have more than enough grunt and having owned an g2 & a g3 have found LG is good for pushing andriod updates (so far anyway)

Didn't notice that. Doesn't seem to have received many responses from people with a G4 in hand, though.
I've managed to live within 16GB to this point (though I definitely need more now) so I'm pretty sure 64 will be plenty. Price from T-Mobile is identical, so that isn't even a differentiation.

Gotta weigh the options of each. Right now the G4 can have the extra 128gb card, extra battery and charger. Nexus 6 has a worse screen, is top heavy no upgradable memory or swappable battery, worse camera and no led notification.
The nexus has dual speakers, but trying both phones side by side for sound, it isn't that huge of a difference IMO.
The G4 is also more comfortable and more pocketable due to it's size.
I have both phones and have to say that the nexus 6 updated to 5.1.1 with a custom kernel is hands down the fastest device I've ever used no question about it. I love the camera and the removable battery of the g4 they are my main selling points for switching from the nexus. You can't go wrong though both are fantastic devices

Just to lead off that, I also have the G3 running AOSP 5.1.1 and it also is blazing fast, it seems more to do with the OS than the hardware itself. Assuming we get root, there will likely be G4 AOSP ROMs as well.
I didn't own the N6, but I did consider it. For me, since it's already June and the next Nexus will likely come out this fall, I would personally wait. I plan on getting the next Nexus if the 5.7" rumor is true, and I just got my G4.
I'm curious. Is anybody going from the G Pro to the G4? I've had the G Pro for almost 2 years. Thinking about going to the G4 or wait and see what the Nexus 7 phone will be later this year.

I have the Samsung S4 active and LG E980---both rooted and the S4 active has Lollipop and faster processor. Guess which phone I use? The LG! The battery life on all my Samsungs just can't compare---they're at 20% by 8:00 PM where the LG is at 60%. Also, the LG is faster and rarely seems to get bogged down. I am curious about the G4 though and it's either that or possibly the Moto. I'm done with Samsung---too much bloat and crap.

But is the G4 a definite step up, or is it a lateral move? I remember looking at the specs for the G3, and it seemed that the OGP still had some Better specs in certain areas. So, if we migrate over to the G4, what if anything will we be losing? I might wait a bit and see if the G4 Note becomes a reality...
Edit: if you like a bright white screen, you might not be happy with the G4. When i did a side by side comparison between the G4 & the OGP, I noticed that the G4 was much dimmer than the OGP, and it had a distinct blue tint instead of the bright white I'm accustomed to. Both phones were set to m max brightness. I'm not sure if the G4 has any sort of tint or tone settings to have caused the blue-ish screen, but it was definitely set set max brightness. It reminded me of the coloring on an Amoled from a Note 2. One thing of note though...when viewed by itself, the G4's screen looked fine! But when placed side by side, there was a marked difference...
Let snapdragon 820 phone come. I will upgrade rather 808 or 810
I miss the home button LED on the ogp.
I played with the G4 twice in the store. The G Pro and the G4 both have the same size screen, but you get more screen to use on the G Pro when you factor in the G4 having onscreen buttons. I wish they had made the G4 with a 5.7 inch screen like the LG Stylus.

Quite honestly, maybe I'm missing something. I messed around with the G4, G3, Samsung S5, S6 and the Nexxus 6 and I noticed very little difference in the LG E980 and these other phones. Screen--not much difference. Reaction time---almost the same. Size---same, thickness---slightly better but nothing crazy.
Honestly, about the only phone I thought was "exciting" was the Iphone 6 plus. But I want external memory and removable battery. Just not excited to upgrade...is there something I'm missing?

Yeah you missing that you are crazy nut. Lol serious thought. I agree on pretty much everything. I do not think the last few years have made a big difference anymore. And the G Pro is probably the best phone you easily can buy for under 150 probably the best one anyway. Because most phones more expensive or same price range have build in battery and those after roughly 2 years aren't lasting anymore. I had to get a replacement for my G Pro because the battery drained within 3 hours. But isn't a big deal since it has a replaceable battery.

I moved from the G Pro to the G4. Battery life has been great so far, standby lasted a few days. On screen was near 6 hours with heavy use and the quick charge feature is great! Now that it's rooted and all of the bloat removed, it's an even better phone. The camera is very impressive and crisp. I still have my G Pro and love it however, I just don't turn it on much anymore. The G4 has impressed me to the point that my other devices really don't get touched anymore.

Well, need you guys help. Please share inbuilt qhd videos on OGP with me. Searched over on internet but couldn't find anything.
Well, since Samsung has chosen to remove very popular features in the Note 5 such as SD Card slot, and expandable battery, I won't be buying one. However, i am looking at the LG G4 or upcoming LG G4-Pro.
Does anyone have any experience with the LG line that could enlighten me as to whether this is a viable alternative to the under-featured Note 5?
I have had the lg g3 and now I have the lg g4 and it is an awesome phone. and its at least rooted. the camera is awesome.
I switched from Note 4 to G4. So far so good, rooted, just waiting on more development. No support for xposed or any type of recovery like twrp or safe strap, but I'm sure those will follow soon.

I will wait until perm root is confirmed before repeating my N4 mistake. Will the G4 Pro have the dev support if rooted or will it be minimal?
I think the Moto X Pure (style) is the best looking upcoming option. I also like what I hear about the LG G4 pro/note that is supposed to release sometime this fall. Both phones sound like they would be great alternatives. I do not use the SPen in my Note phones, so I don't mind losing that. I very much do mind losing micro SD slot. I would get a Note 4 if it was rootable, but we all know it is not.

Lg G4 is absolutely the BEST phone I've ever had. Hi, I'm Tom and I'm a cell phone addict. I've had EVERY Major flagship phone releases on Verizon for the last 5 years. Basically I keep a phone about 3 or 4 months. I thought the GS6 was the greatest phone I ever used, but it was to small for my rapidly degrading eyesight. I bought the G4 and instantly knew I had found the Holy grail.
The display is a beautiful, the android skin is fluid and nicely done, LG sent me a leather back and extra battery & charger for FREE. All I did was send in proof of purchase. The curve of the glass is perfect.
For the 1st time I don't think I'm going to get a new phone for a while, unless Verizon drops a lg g4 pro, which I doubt.

This decision is really up to what features you find value in. I love my G4 and you would have to decide if you want a phone that has removable battery and expandable storage to say have fingerprint scanner and the latest OS. These phones are different in a lot of ways.

I picked up the G4 the day it came out,so I've had a good few months with it. Definitely no regrets. Coming from Samsung, it's a much less intrusive version of Android..... Than say... Touchwizz. It could benefit from extra features for battery saving mode like on the Sony or SAMSUNG, but it easily lasts me a day.
One of the best cameras, used it on my recent trip Italy, if you are into photography... You can have a lot of fun.
With every phone you will find +/-, but sure you can probably get a good deal on aG4, making it a real phone to consider.

I can answer one of those questions: the overlay is acceptable, because 99.5% of the time I don't see it because I use the camera/browser/gallery/app of choice, instead of playing with the settings. That might be different in your case, but since you asked I thought I'd answer.
Hell! I'd recommend the G4 over their 6P! For that European price, I'd 100% recommend the G4 over it!!! No doubt about it! You can get the G4 for 420 euros! The 6P will be 650 and I still think the G4 will compare just as well Or even better in the camera department and battery life. Nexus' aren't known for battery life. Neither is the LG, but hey! ...

I'm also looking at ordering the G4 after the disappointment of the 5X, but it looks like LG will always gimp Nexus devices so it won't compete with their own flagship.
LG seems to be the only manufacturer left that give all the choices for users, even Samsung is going Apple direction.
I find LG interface to be much more bearable than Samsung which to me personally is unusable. This is helped by the fact of on-screen buttons. But I'm just waiting for CyanogenMod availability.

86 in photo and 79 in video for both but one has 84 points and G4 83 points, anyways DxoMark just sucks, a french reviewer... never in low light
I'm disappointed in the 5x because of the faux look of dual front speakers when in reality one is just an earpiece speaker, nothing more and lack of qi charging, and same outdated storage options. Really don't care about the lack of RAM, not like I can tell a difference going from the G4 to nexus 5, though all of it is hard to justify at $380 when you pay $20 more and get 3gb of ram, a 5.7 inch 2k screen, and an SD slot by choosing a moto x pure edition. 5x specs would be fine with nexus 4 pricing tiers
To answer your question if you're a purist like me, LG UX will drive you bonkers. So much stuff they changed just to be different that doesn't really have a purpose. I like it overall OK but have already decided I'm going back to a nexus or a moto next year. Also the memory leak is in full effect on it as LG has written 5.1.1 off as "too minor to even bother with" which means it won't get fixed until you get marshmallow which probably won't be until 2016

That was quick but the most interesting scores are the N6P is top for texture in stills beating the S6 & G4 and beating both again for Noise by 4 points.
I think the comparisons of N6P against S6/G4 are going to be interesting, hard as it might be to believe, expect the N6P shots to look slightly better in details than the S6/G4. How to counter that ? reduce to 12MP on both, now noise & details will look sharper and the difference will be hard to tell. Still, this is an achievement for the N6P. The 6S+ did not get there. The Z5 did.
In terms of video stabilisation its a good ten points behind the G4 so jerky video.
12MP and 1/2.3" rear camera.
The big catch is that there is no OIS in either N5X or N6P, pretty shocking considering N5 & N6 had it. Go to the trouble to make a good camera and then leave out OIS. Seriously WTH!!!! So like the Z5 except the Z5 will have more features ootb. You better have good handholds a la xperia or M9 to get clear low light shots with these nexii.
What will the camera interface be like, google camera has always been very limited. 3rd party cams will be essential. And then we will find out just how slow the shutter gets to.
They left out wireless charging on both ! ok, i get it that morotola is crap at wireless charging but LG already nailed it with the 5, two years ago.
Course for those who want sd & removable battery, software is not going to be able to fix
I've just returned my LG G4 to get the Nexus 5x.
I loved the G4's camera but the bloatware, bluetooth issues, buggy smart unlock, constant notifications of "NFC may drain battery" when using my car dock, the big when you put it on charge, the bing when it finishes charging, the bing when you turn it on, the bing when you turn it off.... it stopped being an enjoyable device to use and it was all because of what LG had done to Android.
So I'm going back to stock android. Originally I was going to wait for a G4 AOSP or Cyanogen rom but with the announcement of the fantastic Nexus 5x camera I decided to make the move while I still could..
The feature list is cut down compared to the G4 but it is stuff I am not so concerned with. I've not used expandable storage since moving to use Google music, Photo, Docs, Keep and Drive. I've never used wireless charging, and I don't game on my phones so I am not worried about the 1gb less of ram, especially when my Nexus 4 uses nearly 1GB of ram less than the LG G4 when idling.
I got the G4 after trying almost all other phones out there. I had Z3, HTC One M9, S6, Nexus 6, Iphone 6, and now G4 and the G4 blows them all away.
It is quicker than the others, has no memory or multitasking issues contrary to some minor views in this thread, the bluetooth, 4g and wifi work perfectly, smart lock works fine too, the camera beats all of the other phones I owned, and the battery life is equal to if not better than all at 5 Hours SOT at 60% screen brightness.
The new google launcher is AWFUL so wanting that is just nonesense, and the LG launcher has replaced Nova for me, because it's just as customisable.
Nexus fans won't want it though because they want Stock = Boring, and prefer the boring look to a decent camera and features. Anyone expecting the new Nexus devices to actually have decent real world camera is praying to the wrong gods.
I have no memory leak issues with my Verizon model, and love 95% of this phone.
Coming from a Nexus/Moto X background, I find LG's ui decent and mostly easy to use. There are 2 or 3 little annoyances in how settings are accessed, but Nova Launcher fixes most design issues - an icon pack and new screen layout, plus gestures to shortcut to the settings I use most.
I world consider rooting to clean up the other small issues, but I'm a regular Android Pay user do I'm holding off until that all shakes out.

Dont get me wrong ill probably grab the new nexus 5 based on stock so i can have fun rooting and putting custom roms on it, but besides having cutting edge software it will be my secondary phone and ill stick with my g4 for everyday use. To be honest im a crack flasher and it feels good to not have that urge with my g4, i got root and thats all i needed to get rid of some things and add xposed to tweak it a bit. Very happy with my g4 and will likely get the g5 when it drops.

Yes. In terms of hardware, it's about even up. And the G4 also offers a miniSD slot, exchangeable battery, and nice back covers. Only possible drawback might be the battery live, probably mostly thanks to the G4's insane resolution.

I don't like the LG icons, but that can be easily changed by using a different launcher like Nova. Also, the colors for toast messages and quick settings are a bit bright (cyan). And the mobile data protocol (LTE, G3, ...) is displayed as own icon instead of small text in the reception bar icon. Most of the rest can easily be ignored or even be disabled in the settings.
But a lot of this (and more) can be modified even without unlocking the bootloader. You can flash rooted ROMs via the cable firmware update screen, and then use FlashFire to flash other ZIP updates like Xposed or themed variants (warning: very slow...).
With the European H815 version, you can also unlock the bootloader, but you'll lose warranty, and it can't be unlocked. But it'll allow you to flash "more AOSP" ROMs. (Official CM12 is work in progress, but there's an inofficial port available.)
