Madscientist's recommendation sounds best. You don't need to be rooted to TOT a stock image to your phone. Make sure to backup anything important. This requires a PC:

Yes, restoring stock using TOT method is like getting the phone brand new without any modifications, so it should fix any issues you are seeing if the phone was modified in anyway. I have successfully TOTed back to older stock versions numerous times and the update notification would pop up like a mad dog without leaving me alone
The most legit way is to download an app called "root checker," and the rest is self explanatory.

ZVG is Lollipop 5.0
ZVB, ZVD, ZVE is Kit Kat 4.4
ZV7, ZV8, ZVA is Jelly Bean 4.1
So just look for the right files.

Gamersab, this is all for Sprint and Boost Mobile LG G2 LS980. I just saw in your profile that you are using Pakistan - Telenor. This is probably the reason why you aren't receiving OTA updates for your phone... Your phone was probably flashed by Telenor to work on their network. I wouldn't tot back to stock or you might lose network access because the APN settings won't be configured for your provider...

No I bought it from independent seller.
Telenor have nothing to do with it
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Free mobile app

And will my phone remain unlock after flashing tot ?
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Free mobile app

No, tot puts it back on sprint network. If you aren't using sprint, you will not get access.

Any easy way to unlock it ? And will I be able to receive OTA update after unlock ?
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Free mobile app

Any unlocking will break ota of going through.

Well, the only way I'm getting LP is by flashing custom ROM right?
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Free mobile app

They are working on a permanent unlock on stock lollipop. There is a thread in sprint development. Main thing, backup your apn-settings file.
That could save you a big headache

LG FlashTool Issue

So I bought an LG Optimus G last week, attempted to root and flash a rom but missed a step and now it's bricked. I can get it into download mode and I have the LG FlashTool as well as the .dll and .tot The only issue is it says I have the phone model lg-e971 so it gives me a FAIL. From what I've read its because I already have the zvc.tot on it so I have to revert back to the zvb.tot and then back to the zvc.tot correct?? If so, where do I find the zvb.tot to flash on there. I haven't been able to find it anywhere. If anyone happens to have a link to that .tot or can upload it for me that'd be much appreciated.

Did you flash an International version instead of a Sprint?
The .tot is the same as the .bin. Just use the dll that came with Flashtool. The bin is in the root guide.

E971 is the Canadian version of the OG. You or someone tried to install a Canadian ROM. The DLL you have is for the Sprint version. That's why you have the conflict.
Probably try to use LGNPST instead. Links for it are in the irc, and the teeny bin thread under Additional info.

Actually I'm not even sure that's gonna work. E971 is gsm and Sprint is CDMA. You may not have a Sprint phone.

I do have a sprint phone. Its just that I rooted it, then unlocked the bootloader and I guess I apparently missed a step somewhere because when I started it back up it just showed the LG screen and went black and so I assume that's it being bricked.

OK. Just checking.
Have you tried to get into recovery? If/ when you do, you'll probably need to do a factory reset.
Also, instead of the bin file, you may be able to use teeny bin.
And you shouldn't need to go back to zvb.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It won't let me get into recovery, it'll only let me do the usb mode when I plug the usb in. otherwise it just shows the lg screen for half a second and then goes black till it kills my battery. If I hold down the power button for a few seconds and let go, it turns off but then boots back up and does it all over again.
Awesome!!!!!! Downloaded LGNPST and set it up (it was somewhat tricky like they said) but once I got it down I know what to do. Anyway I flashed the teenybin file to have the bootloader unlocked and custom recovery and I was able to reformat everything. Thanks a bunch. Maybe this thread will be of help to someone else along the way.

Is it possible for someone to make a nandroid backup of their stock ROM, then post a DL link?
Then we could just DL the backup, manually copy it to our phone to the proper folder, and restore it through TWRP or CWM. Does that work?
I've never tried but it seems much more simple! Sorry in advance if that is a stupid idea and doesn't work. If not, explain why!

No that doesn't work because you can't make a backup in TWRP or CWM of the stock based ROM when you are unrooted since if you are unrooted you can't flash TWRP or CWM. The earliest you can make a nandroid backup is right after you root and flash TWRP recovery.
When you do an OTA, the Sprint stock OTA update looks for valid files in certain directories that the root method might have changed and any certificates might be invalid so it doesn't install. That is why some folks who rooted and then do the OTA and the OTA install fails and they get bootlooped. This is why they say if you are rooted, do NOT take the OTA update. If you must, like in the case of Verizon you should take the OTA first when you are unrooted, let it install and then root.
Thanks for responding!

Have you tried it and it worked? I tried it once before after I restored my phone from a soft brick caused by the update, then I ran freegee and it would show the screen where it says the bootloader was unlocked with the LG logo then jump to another screen with just the LG logo and just kept looping in that boot forcing me to do another restore. [Q] How do I get the OTA Kit-Kat with a rooted v 4.1.2 ?

How do I get the OTA Kit-Kat with a rooted v 4.1.2 ? I have SuperSu for the Superuser app and see no option to do a temp unroot (if that will even work for the OTA update).
I have managed to stay out of trouble so far, the OTA update downloads and tries to install - then I get the error "Root suspected" during the beginning of the update process. I can just turn off and on and everything is fine. I would like KitKat, but I'm seeing so many threads saying the At&T Optimus G Pro (E980) with the 4.1.2 ROM is exempt from most of the tricks supplied here for this unit. I don't know how I managed to finally root it, I tried 5 methods then went back to the first one I tried that failed before and it worked the second time. I think it was a wrong ADB version running on my laptop.
Any tried and true methods to get KitKat for this beast and still have root? Thanks.

Pretty much the only reason why I wanna root again is for ad blocking, cpu sleeper, and get rid of a bunch of bloatware.
