[Q] Strange battery problem

Hi all,
My battery drains really fast, faster than normal if I see the replies to the calibration thread. After less than half a day (as in 6hours) with wifi turned on and "playing" a bit with it (exploring apps, check them out etc.), say about 2hours of intensive use, my battery is at 25%. It never lasted longer than 24h, that's with wifi off most of the time. Running CoPilot it lasts only 2-3hours. I tried the calibration for nexus one posted in android dev forum several times, including battery stats wipe. It's at 29% but overcharged says 3762mV, also if fully charged it never goes above a certain V which I don't remember right now but I'll post back when it's fully charged The V it stays at is a lot lower than the replies on the calibration thread said it should be, that's why I'm think my battery doesn't charge fully.
I'm running LeeDroiD with no setCPU.
Is this behavior normal? Do these mV's correspond with the batt %? (29% <> 3762mV)

I'm using Leedroid as well, but I don't see excessive battery usage.. Most of the time I can survive for > 12 hrs..

I have the same problems as you with a short battery life, I upgraded the battery to one with a larger capacity but that makes no difference, I have been told that this is a common problem and a fix will be out in the near future from HTC.
I also use Co-Pilot and when I ran it the battery could not keep up, I bought a car charger from e-bay and it may be a fake and I now have the new charger with the USB plug and that works ok, if you have a car USB charger try using it with the original sync cable, if the battery stays full then the old charger is at fault. My understanding is that there are a lot of fake chargers and accessories out there and they look the part but do not supply enough power to run with the phone running Co-Pilot.

Thanks for your reply. I meamt that woth copilot running on pure battery, with the charger connected no problems.. good to know that i'm not the only one woth this prob.

A lot of the extended batteries on the market are well below their advertised capacities (see here). I've not heard of any official "fixes" for battery life, but then again I get 30+ hours from a charge,

Yeah I'm not gonna buy a non-genuine battery; simply don't trust them.

I have spoken to HTC about the battery problem a few times and according to the guy I spoke too there is a patch that will be released soon, I dont know the exact details but it is supposed to help the battery life, my phone would be dead if I ran Co-Pilot for an hour.
I am now using a 1600mAH instead of the standerd 1400mAH, the battery is the same size as the original and was supplied from a trusted manufacturer. I have also killed my task killer and will wait and see what happens, some people say that its not neded or HTC would have built one into the software, so I will give it a go for a week or so and see what how it works out.

Well hope this "patch" helps and it'll be integrated in the custom roms. However, a task killer isn't necessary because of the way android is designed. Apps get hibernated as soon as they don't require any interaction/resources anymore (eg. Load a webpage and immediatly go to home; Internet will load its webpage and as soon as it's loaded the Internet app goes into hibernation so effectively its killed just takes some ram (i think), at least it doesn't use any resources at this point anymore).
Services, however, run continuously and do indeed take battery the whole time.

Hi I have a battery calibration problem on my GT-N5110 Note 8.0 that I bought refurbished through amazon. I know it is the calibration since the battery usually drains pretty fast and when it gets to 1% it stays there for around half to one hour of continuous use. Also sometimes when I'm charging it, it jumps from around 60% to 100% and "charged" shows up right after that happens, when I unplug it and use it, then it goes down normally (fast) 1% at a time, even though that big jump while charging happened.
I have tried several "full cycles" without success and haven't been able to find a real way to calibrate the battery meter, neither here or on google, and since I didn't buy it in my country, local samsung support say they can not help me.
I'm on 4.2.2 leak rooted and the drain has been present since I was on 4.1.2 stock.
If someone can get a hold of how to calibrate, it would be really nice if you could share it! Thank you!

I tried the battery calibration app before, and really didn't do a thing for me...

I also suffer this weird battery behaviour with the device charging, it will take ages up to about 60%, and then instantly its at 100%
I also get this on the way down... when im using it, the battery drains fast, but when I get to 35 -40%, I then suddenly get the low battery 15% warning flash up, and then im all out of juice.
This is the same whether im on 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 custom or stock firmware
I rarely get more than an hour screen on time, and thats with fairly low brightness and power saving mode on

If someone could some how contact Samsung and ask them about the real calibration it would be very helpful for us having this issue... Since some don't live in the US and don't get the correct support :what:

Battery decreases so quickly when wifi is on! hardly get a days use out of it...:crying:

One method described in the battery performance thread which I've found effective:
"I wanna share my trial of battery calibration that really make a significant different at least till now .. I used to make calibration by discharge / charge cycles, but this time i add an official instruction of Apple:
- discharge the battery by ur normal usage till 1% then let the device play an HD movie till it shut down (that may take some time as it for me takes 4 hours!!) then turn it on to make sure the battery read 0% (my previous calibration the battery always shut down at 1% and I never see that 0% as I was discharging it vigorously) after making sure it is 0% it will turn off by itself anyway.
- now leave ur device turned off for extended time (about 5 hours or more is better according to apple "u could let it while u r sleeping"
- after that turn the device on and plug it in as it is on
- left it charges as it likes (for my trial it takes 7 hours and didn't say charged!! but I had to unplug it as I had to leave the work!)
till now my battery is really significantly improved, hoping to continue like that and I will keep u updated

Discharging it completely, leaving it dead overnight then giving it a full charge by plugging in as a soon as it powers on has yielded good results for me. However I've also discovered a severe battery drain bug in stock Kitkat which has nothing to do with battery calibration; using wifi on certain routers causes Android OS wakelock which persists in deep sleep. I use my old Galaxy W as a hotspot for my Note 8 and consistently my battery drains overnight in deep sleep with wifi on. At my workplace we have a Linksys E2500 router, I leave the tablet on wifi throughout the day and don't notice the Android OS wakelock. So if you're having inexplicable battery drain test your Note 8 on different routers.

Calibration is a myth... google stated calibration tools do not help with how Android functions with battery management.
I posted my thread about battery and charging cables, and replied an a few topics like this one, yet nobody will search on Samsung DVFS disable or take note of it as being the cause.
Root with saferoot if you have not rooted, install xposed framework if not done so, and Wanam Xposed or Wanam DVFS disable. Since over 10 months now, my battery stats and performance are trouble free.

I was having severe battery drain for a while until I tried something I read about. What you do is carefully open the note up and disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes (they recommend a longer time but I don't see the need). Connect it back up and put the note back together.
It worked for me.
Google it, there's even a video on how to do it.

I was down to 3 hours or so of battery time but bought a replacement battery from a company called New Power 99. Cost $65-ish US and now I can go all day and still have at least 25% when I hit the sack at night. Huge improvement for me! I"m not a heavy user but I take notes at work, do some surfing, then read and surf alot at home at night. So far it's been great! Might think of a replacement battery. Probably cheaper one's out there but I wanted to get what I paid for so shelled out the extra.

Hi! Thanks for the info! That's great to hear, one question, did you change the battery yourself? If so, could you provide a hint on which guide you used, that would be verry helpful:good:

The battery came with a DVD that explained it (with really bad music) but the bottom line is you pry the back off, take the 8 screws off, unplug the old - plug in the new and replace everything. Not really hard but, as I said, nerve-wracking! I was afraid I'd screw it up but it was pretty straight forward.

I. Had the same issues, I just took off the back cover and disconnected the cable that connected the battery. I did not need a new battery. The toughest part for me was disconnecting the battery cable... I actually had to take out the 8 screws that held the battery in place, so I could get some leverage. I only had my battery disconnected for only 5 minutes and it solved the problem for me..... Good luck!

My device is GT-N5100 with a custom KK TouchWiz based ROM
I have terrible with battery percentage meter incorrect.
Sometimes charging form 30% to 60% it's suddenly jump to 100% but still charging for a long time may be long than 1 hour to show battery full.
And sometimes with discharge ,battery percentage meter show much than 16% then suddenly depleted battery to power off itself.
I also ever face this issue from stock KitKat.
Any way to fix it ?

Hi, Yes I have this same problem. Don't know why it happens and don't know how to fix it. Charging for a long time and very little % increase leave it for a little while longer and it pops up to 100%. No idea why it does this.

A battery pull (I.e. disconnect the battery for 15-60 mins) will help reset the fuel chip, but the issue with incorrect calibration will eventually return over time. Rooting the device, installing Xposed and the Wanam Xposed module and disabling Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling (DVFS) once you've performed the battery pull helps a lot to prevent the issue from returning. Deleting Battery Stats does absolutely nothing.

I ever disconnected battery two times but it can not help just little different (before disconnect battery 50% after connected increase to 67%)
I will try Xposed module to disabling Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling and I will report you back.
I hope it will be better.

Your battery is dying. Change it to a new one. Buy a new one off ebay & do it yourself, its fairly easy.

His battery *could* be dying, but a bunch of us with Note 8s have encountered the same issues with reported battery voltages jumping all over the place resulting in the fuel chip thinking that, on average, it has 40% less juice before it thinks it's empty and dies. The net result is that many people are getting 3-4 hours of battery life, rather than the 7-10+ hours they should be getting. Someone on these forums tracked it down to how DVFS interacts with how the fuel chip gets calibrated over time and another person managed to snag a copy of the fuel chip's data sheet but the instructions on the sheet on how to reset the chip in software didn't seem to work, hence the battery pull needed to reset the chip to use its stock curves.

I went the new battery route with a New Power 99 one from Amazon. Nerve-wracking as Hell to put it in cuz I didn't want to screw my device up but really was easy. Now zero problems. How long this will last is, of course, the question. But even if I get another year out of it that'll bee good. I suggest you try that.

It is too expensive in my country but it has 3 mount guarantee from Samsung.

Hi everybody
I have the same problem with my n5100 device, my battery % suddenly jump when charging and when discharging. So, I have returned my tablet to the post sale customer service as part of 1 year of warranty, they have changed the motherboard and now it work perfectly:good:. Actually the problem was not related to the battery

After month testing with an ebay cheapie knoxed 4.4.2 Note 8.0... All Samsungs have DVFS in the Touchwiz's build. The only way to fly is to disable it with wanam kit or DVFS disabler or Wanam xposed. Though I rather live with unplugging and plugging back in the power than to deal with Wanam's battery sucking issues with KK. Until wanam is redesigned for KK, I'm staying away.

Battery Draining very fast - Hardware issue or software ?? help me please :)

So i got a HTC 10 UAE edition from a guy two days before. He was selling it at a reasonable price and i bought it from him.
The battery was draining quite fast and i thought it might be a software issue and i installed venom rom, but problem still existed, so i turned back to stock 2.41.401.41 (Which was very hard though) .
Still the battery is draining so fast. The charger came with the phone( Quick charger ) was also not working and now i'm facing the phone's battery is draining so fast. I'm very confused whether that guy have cheated me or not. If this is a hardware issue i think i have to contact that guy soon.
adb battery stat gave me 2580mah full charge capacity and here, i'm attaching the GSAM battery logs.

Mine was doing the same as yours, quick charge also stopped working. I changed the cable and it solved it for a few weeks, but the drain started again and quick charge stopped again. Tried ruu etc but no luck. I've sent mine in for repair under warranty and should get it back Monday. My guess is either the charging port is faulty or motherboard but will find out next week.

I downloaded an app called Lspeed (It's also on the playstore) and did some tweaking in that app as well as used the Enable doze for GMS Magisk Module and now my kernel and android system are on par with each other as far as battery drain goes. Not sure why there are only a handful of people that experience this problem but i'll edit this post with screens of my lspeed config if you want to give that a go!
Edit: Config uploaded. Some of those options are personal preference but take a look around and test it out. What you'll most likely want is to enable the light doze optimization and disable the debugging. That will most likely help in your situation.

Very strange, I'm experiencing this issue too, always receive around 2-3hrs of screen on with very high kernel use during standby. Tried flashing Leedroid, Element X to no avail.

Mine is out of warranty. Dunno what to do now. Tried almost everything.

I'm currently running on pure stock. Will try this method soon. How was your battery standby before doing the tweak ?

Have you tried wiping cache? Mine drains fast depending on the load, which is usually pretty heavy daily. Plus, I don't dim my screen much. Never knew the advice command for battery. I gotta try that.

Okay, so I got fed up with the battery life I've been getting and have looked more into it, I've managed to reclaim a lot of the longevity I had before updating to Nougat without hampering UI fluidity. For reference, I'm using Leedroid 3.9 with Element X v1.08 and was getting around 2hrs screen on, android system and kernel had the highest usage under GSam.
bilibox has the right idea, my idle drain was very high, L speed and Greenify both have options to enable a more aggressive Doze which worked pretty well, I lose ~10% battery overnight vs a shocking 20-30% before. I still felt battery drain was too high when active, I combined ivicask's PNP mod (balanced) with some little governor tweaks in EX Kernel manager, basically, I'm using interactive on the little cluster and elementx governor on the big cluster (which tends to be slightly more conservative in my uses). I also set min performance to 0% and downclocked the big cluster to 2Ghz, I'm focusing on these cores since they were draining a lot of power in my case.
It's not a super extensive list of tweaks nor something we haven't seen before, but I manage around 3.5hrs of screen on now which gets me through the day. Before I would have to top up around early afternoon, the phone is also really smooth and I'm happy with how everything is running. I hope this helps some people out!

Still its bad that a 3000mah battery with a smaller screen compared to other flagships giving a very low battery backup just because of software bug. From reviews, i can see that MM is giving fine SoT as well as standby. One thing i really cant is the standby. I cant even go out for a day trip. The battery will die in just 10-12hrs even on standby.

That's unfortunate to hear, my battery life is pretty much in line with my friend's S7 now, newer devices can get away with larger displays because the 835 is a bit more efficient.

I restore my phone and did all updates again. My battery still seems to drain very quick .in an hour with some navigation, and little screen use It went from 20% to 1 percent.
I've taken excellent care of my HTC. Before this, I had HTC 8 and loved it, until right at the 2-year mark, a small area of the screen stopped working.
This is the second time I` experience this, and sadly there won't be a third., especially after new HTC removed the headphone jack like the iPhone ... RIP HTC

Well to be honest the past couple days were to weird to me usually i get 5 - 6 SOA over 13 hours
now i get 3:30 - 4 SOA over 13 hours, same usage, and i have noticed that google service consume most of the power, i have installed doze program and kept my eye on GSM battery Monitor, after all the google service kept the kernal wake up for a long time, and keep running the hardware on the full abilities

I unistalled Gsam battery monitor and kernel usage is back to normal...

I have uninstalled ForceDoze and Gsam Bettery this morning but still feeling that there is something wrong, i might do some battery calibration on my free time, because i charge my phone only for 90% and it did not get lower than 20% i feel like i am losing the battery capacity

Was having the same issue, and had been searching for weeks to try and solve this. Tried rooting, factory resets, ROMs, everything.
For me the issue was Google Sync, in particular Contacts and People syncing. I disabled those and everything is back to normal. There was a program called Google Contacts Sync (Apps > Show System > Google Contacts Sync). I cleared the data on that, and then went into Accounts and Sync and turned everything off. That fixed the battery drain. I have tried turning back on Gmail, Keep and a few others and still have great battery.

I have the same issue and I don't know how to fix it. Please help

Battery health with accu battery. New phone but not full capacity

I'm coming with a question regarding the battery of the nubia read magic 5S.
I have been with the phone for less than one week and I am checking that the battery capacity is not the same as the one that is stated by Nubia. It should be 4500 mah but I have 4000 according to the accu battery app.
Can someone please double check this capacity in your phones?

the Capaacity on mine is quite good. i think less than 3% when full its 4370mah or around that the last time i checked.
its possible you've charged it at poor intervals. and maybe used a speed charger of some kind.
for the health of the battery and to test. do this for the next 3 or so days.
during the day try to get the phone to around 5% (no lower than 3%) try not to do this fast like with gaming heavy or whatever.
then connect to a slow charger 2 or 3 amps max. and allow to charge to 100% without using the phone. allow 10 minutes grace time after the phone is fully charged to allow the battery to cool a little.
then again use the phone as you would, up to 5% again. and repeat the process 3 times. then check your capacity. that will be your real capacity. if you follow those steps exactly.

during the day try to get the phone to around 5% (no lower than 3%) try not to do this fast like with gaming heavy or whatever.
then connect to a slow charger 2 or 3 amps max. and allow to charge to 100% without using the phone. allow 10 minutes grace time after the phone is fully charged to allow the battery to cool a little.
then again use the phone as you would, up to 5% again. and repeat the process 3 times. then check your capacity. that will be your real capacity. if you follow those steps exactly.

Thanks for your feedback. You are kind of right about the fast charger. I iused the 65w PD usb of my Lenovo laptop which really charged the device at full speed.

I have done 3 slow charge discharge intervals and the data in the accu battery app remains that same
Actually maybe the battery is not damage cause the cycle is kind of good. Just trying to figure out what is the issue

it may be best then to contact nubia or the seller you bought the phone from. if the battery is faulty or old is should be replaced. its very odd that the battery is not the rated 4400mah especially for a device that is just new. a small discrepancy like mine 2-3% is usually alright for something left in storage for 2-3 months after manufacture. but if you're past a large amount of capacity in such a short time, its possible that the battery is faulty and will need to be replaced.
do try other battery monitor apps incase your app is giving false readings. But I would contact Nubia about a warranty repair. if you bought it directly from Nubia, @JerryYin may be able to help forward your request.

Hey guys,
Long time accubattery user here.
You'll have to uninstall the app and re-install it before trying the above.
The estimates are not great for long term information but benefit more over long term (months).
If you want a fast reading, try the above but also check your estimated capacity on the main screen (charging), go to the bottom and you'll see it there. Make sure your phone is fully charged first.
My estimated capacity was 4000mah originally, but now I'm showing 4545mah (on the 5G, not 5S).

My screen on time is 5 hours 58 minutes, that's on 144hz always with the custom Kernel to overclock the GPU to 900mhz.

The battery capacity have a bug that will cause most of the software can't identity all the capacity. This should be fix in future update.

Please fix:
1. Ongoing app notifications such as my weather app showing app icon instead of weather info, same goes for
other apps such as emails, missed calls, messsages etc. where it only shows app icons instead of proper info
2. DTS X crashes on bluetooth headphones everytime, works OK with wired, but come on, it's 2020, everything's
wireless these days.
3. Every few days you need to clear "Bluetooth system app's" cache otherwise it stops connecting with paired
devices.
4. Can't set up default apps at least not all of them
