Flashed the ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492461 which uses a 3.0 kernel. It runs smooth on my device. However, if I use my phone to listen to music, my battery drains very fast (about 40%/h) although I'm not doing anything else with the device. It also gets quite warm as if it had a high CPU load. However, the CPU load is low as you'd expect. The CPU clock is also OK, most of the time it runs at 245Mhz.
I then downloaded the very same RO with a 2.6 kernel. This time, battery was good when listening to music (1%/15m) and the device stays at a normal temperature so I assume there is a problem with the 3.0 kernel. Did anybody else also encounter this? What can I do to help debugging this problem?
Personally I'd suggest to move over to a similar but better/more stable ROM. Two that come to mind are mimicry and elitemod ICS, both are great and have far less bugs than the ROM you are using. But to each there own... I'd suggest contacting the developer, either within the thread or via pm and ask him why he implemented the 3.0 kernel when it is just far to buggy to use as a daily driver? I'm not hating on him just seems as it was put in his ROM and well... not supported much thereafter.

The 3.0 kernel isn't as stable as 2.6. If the battery drain issue is that bad then I would suggest moving onto a rom that still uses 2.6. Or if you feel lucky, go test out Andromadus JB which also has the 3.0 kernel. It might be better there. Considering you're testing this with a music app, why not try another application? Try changing the overclock settings. The unofficial CM9.1 and Andromadus are mostly in testing right now. You'd have to be willing to deal with these problems if you use those roms, and report the bugs to the authors.
I would suggest using Mimicry. It may not have all the new bells and whistles like 3.0 kernel, but at least it's stable.
For the record, the 2.6 kernel that Mimicry uses has a *ton* of 3.0 kernel patches merged into it.

Thanks for the replies! Forgot to mention that I first also blamed the audio player (Apollo) and changed to the app I used with the stock ROM but the battery drain was just as bad. So: sorry Apollo
My intention was to help the author of the ROM to track down that issue. But since I'm new to these forums I wasn't allow to reply to the original thread so I wanted to ask first if this is a known general issue of the 3.0 kernel. I'll PM the author and point him to the thread. If anybody knows a good thread on debugging battery drain issues or knows how to do this, please feel free to post links here, I'll also search further.

I have the same problem. 40%/h drainage, with either poweramp or apollo. I use CM9.1-vision-3.0-V4
Any news on this?
TIA

i think 3.x.43 is high battery drain,but 3.x.40 is better than 3.x.43

I sent the developer a PM offering help on this but didn't get a reply. I then reverted back to the 2.6 kernel which works just fine in terms of battery usage.
Still in CM9.1.0 Final

(this is my first post so im sorry if i posted in the wrong place or asked in the wrong area)
A couple nights ago i flashed a 4.2.2 P.A.C man ROM ( dont get me wrong i love this ROM thanks to the devs ) but ever since i installed this ROM my phone has been heating up to temperatures like 96 degrees Fahrenheit this kills my battery really fast, i just use basic apps like stock messaging app or apollo music player :'(
(today i unplugged my phone from the charger at around 7:25 AM and by 10:00 AM i was down to about 23% battery life) along with this sometimes my phone crashes ( i believe its from the heat) and i have to pull my battery pack out and reinsert it to boot up the phone.
I love this ROM but this is irritating me i cant get 5 hours out of my battery i already tried a new SIII battery and the same thing happened.
If someone could please help me or atleast guide me somewhere that would help me i would appreciate it i used to love listening to music on my way home but now i cant :/

try to reflash the rom with full wipe . if that doesnt work use another rom in the meantime. i would of said use another battery, but you stated the problem continued. i think its the rom
Sounds like something may be keeping the CPU at 100%. Let's see some stats?
Wouldn't go as far as the rom is the issue as the person using the rom (not a shot at you op) we need more details on what you did to install and what you came from and stuff. Might be your boot loader needs to be updated. Might be a kernel issue. Like I said can't immediately run and blame roms, even though its possible. Download betterbatterystats and report battery life with detailed info.

The pacman rom is an CM10/AOSP/AOKP or a ported rom.
It is an excellent rom for developers and for those people who like to do a lot of experimentation with their phones.
What I would suggest is to flash a custom rom like "Wicked V10", "Darthstalker X2" or the "STOCKORAMA" V2 rom.
Any custom roms based on Samsung Touchwiz Jellybean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 would be a very excellent choice.
These custom roms are feature packed with themes, addons, mods and other extras. - Check em out!
Here are the links to those roms in case you decide to flash one of them.
STOCKORAMA | VERSION 2 | Aroma | Multi-Carrier | Multi-Window
WICKED™ v10 | AROMA | Rom Control | Full Customization
DARTHSTALKER ☆ | VERSION X2 | Aroma | Multi-Carrier | Customizable
Good luck!

Please stop posting that its only a good rom for developers... I used aosp type builds steady for 5 months except for when I worked in a certain job site and had to have WiFi calling, I restored right away as soon as possible. It might not be 100% stable but its good for a very very large community including some friends of mine who know close to nothing about phones or modding and devving. Those other ROMs are just opinion (not bad ones at all) and you aren't helping the op at all with his question that he asked.

Greetings, let me briefly explain my ROM related adventures.
I was sick and tired of the stock rom, it was slow and ugly.
I installed a Paranoid Android rom I found but it got stuck in a loop at boot and I was recomended to try another one that wasn't outdated.
I was recomended a PAC rom. It worked just fine, but it consumed a lot of RAM. Never having too much ram to spare the phone was extremely slow when accessing the store and other "heavy" actions.
Recently I installed the bionic cow rom I saw from the samsung galaxy w rom page but it reboots the phone spontaneously, I found in the thread of the rom that it has been discontinued and I should look for another one.
In sum, I need recomendations for a rom that is both light and good looking, any recomendations?
thanks.

My usage would probably be best described as light to medium: few phone calls, some sms and mms, ebay, email, weather updates, some web browsing and some tunes (inc stream to DLNA devices), but no gaming at all. I don't use Seeder or Greenify.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Please ignore the mobile network signal bar being too short as it has never worked properly for me since CM9 (randomly stops logging data) - but as you can see the phone wasn't in aeroplane mode as it has signal in the status bar and the wifi has been permanently switched on.

Feedback
Hey,
I installed CM9 with the kernel like was suggested here. I decided to post some feedback and news about the rom.
So far it's been neat. I'm getting the performance and battery saving like I did when I had the stock rom, but I have the look and feel of the ICS.
here's a screenshot of the battery saving, it lasted the whole weekend... weekend partly spent discovering the wonder of Pudding Monsters, I've gotten more addicted to that game (in that weekend) more than I'm proud to admit.
In spite of that, the battery last for a good 2 days before crashing. This without any battery saving app or greater care.
(I haven't spent as much time online as I used to, that might've also helped a bit)
There is only one annoyance... two actually:
. (as expected) in the camera, the zoom doesn't work. (I was told cameras don't work that well in custom ROM's, as longs as it takes pictures as is I'm happy enough)
. There doesn't seem to be a usb support. Before, when I plugged the phone to the computer there was a popup allowing me to open some usb mode and allowing file transfer between external and internal sd cards. Now it simply turns on usb debugging.
While this works fine on Windows, the OSX doesn't recognize the device. Thus I cannot plug the android to my mac anymore.
Any ideas for the second part?
PS: Just noticed that my tablet also can't be seen on my mac. This means it's not a ROM problem. After searching the usb options I noticed the Samsung has a "mass storage" option which I think may solve my problems. But the same does not go for my tablet.
My tablet is a Sony S unrooted with stock ROM. It only allows usb connection through MTP or PTP modes, neither works with OSX for some reason.
as far as i tested, you can use liquidsmooth or the newest build pacman for sgw :good:

Thank you for the most incredible battery life I have ever seen
Just wanted to post these screen shots of my battery usage on note 2 LTE. This is amazing. I I've used your kernel with the battery saving profile along with some aggressive greenify and amplify. Here is my usage of Web browsing, listening to music and some camera usage over 2 days, 9 and half hours. 5 hours screen and over 2 days without a charge. Phone is still very zippy and not lagging.
Wow... thats impressive... I get around 1and a half days with ca. 3-4 hrs screetime, basic usage and no mayor kernel tweeks...

My AGNi settings are what the main profile selection for battery save are. I changed nothing else except put the volume output for headphones up to vol 60 for some louder music. My amplify settings are also default. I have yet to dive in and figure out what wake locks I can limit without causing issues. I greenify everything expect my email sync, calls and text messages. The battery saving profile quickly switches to one core at fairly low my speeds (200-300mhz) on idle. When your reading a Web pages it ramps down really quickly and ramps up immediately when you scroll down for example. This is where the battery save is. I also disable all location, wifi and mobile data when I go to bed at night. Here is my phones battery stats as of right now. You can see that it does move around a bit but I consistently get 5 to 6 ost but if you throw gaming in that changes a bit. I also use google now launcher with google now disabled. Here are my xposed modules. Smartnetwork switch set to drop to 2g networks when screen is off for 30 mins. Saves a bit of juice at night and during busy times away from phone.
where from can I get the "Android 4.4.x AGNi pureSTOCK v4.3.1_R2 " for GT-N7105 ?
lock effects disabled
I am on Dn3 v5 so there was lock screen effects but after installing agni kernel this thing is disabled. Any help would be appreciated about how to bring it back.. thanks

How can I turn on Touch Wake permanantly?
Hi everyone! I have a very simple question, but I didn't find any solution in the many forums. How can I turn off the touch wake timeout? There is just the option for either max. 30 seconds or in the knock on option max. 120 seconds until timeout. But my wish is that the Knock On function is available permanently without any timeout. Is that possible with this kernel? I also tried to find another kernel based on i9305 stock rom 4.4.4, which might support dt2w without a timeout, but i even couldn't find any other kernel than the agni pureStock. Is that really the only one for the i9305 4.4.4 StockRom?
Thanks so much for any help!
Although i haven't updated from 4.3.5 ( its so rock solid i wont dare update ) I do know that TWRP 2.8.4.0 gave me and others alot of issues.
2.8.1.0 seems to be the best of the latest versions.

Hi, I'm trying to flash the AGNi kernel on my Note 2 N7105 running DN3, by using PhilZ recovery, but as I try to install the .zip, the recovery gets stuck after visualizing the "flame" when you open the zip.
I don't know how to resolve, any help?
thx
Getting SODs and reboots all the time on 4.3.7, mainly when charging the phone. I've rolled back the kernel to 4.3.6 and now the phone is working perfectly.
Does this kernel work with CM12 ?
usbserial module
Is it possible to embed usbserial module into the kernel, otherwise ppp widget complains with "No modem driver module (option, usbserial, cdc_acm) found!"
Hi everyone,
I would like to ask some advices for the z1 compact battery life.
I actually have a stock rom with not a bad battery life but, you know, i'd like to have more if i can.
So i red some threads and i installed some apps for battery life.
I actually have installed hibernation manager and rooter booster.
The first one is an application that is activated when the screen is locked, the other, since it doesn't say this, is always activated i guess. (at least, it's what i thought, and i still don't exactly know)
So my question is this...
For a nice battery life:
1. shall i first stay on stock rom or custom rom?
2. which and HOW MANY apps should i use? (i also red about greenify and amplify but since i have the 5.1.1 version of lollipop and i red that amplify and greenify doesn't know all the wakelocks and services.. I mean i red that you should try yourself for all of those services to block since they don't have an explanation for that and so i took these other 2 apps)
The stock rom that i actually have i downloaded it from this forum and doesn't have full gapps i think which is good for me, i don't really need them but what i mean is that it's not the original rom.
Thank you for your attention

Thank you for your answer,
i read something about that app and i'm not so confident in spending more
if i really have to spend more money i'd like to use them on apps more famous like greenify and amplify but still i don't know if it's really worth it cause of lollipop 5.1.1 and also about using stock rom or custom roms

You don't need to buy pro version... Basic version is free and it gives you AI mode. Just install it and give it a try. Then, if you'll see improvement, you will decide...
Greenify is also free for basic work.

Oh, nice.
But shall i use only that app or i can use more ?
I mean more apps might go in conflict in my opinion so i don't know if i shall use my apps in pro version as well.
Also i'd like to know if OPG app is active while screen is active (so when i'm using the phone) and / or when the screen is disabled (again because of my app that works only when the screen if off.)
I have activated stamina mode and energy saving from sony and i know they're helpful but do they "fight" with other apps that are supposed to save some battery?
Thank you
Your concern is correct.
IMAO there should not be more than one main manager, otherwise they will fight with each other.

"Democracy and voting are best in TV"
What do you exactly mean?
I should use just stamina mode, stamina mode and just a battery saver app like let's say amplify, or just amplify? Is that what you meant? :S
Some few tips for best battery life. There are better t threads you can find more information from, so:
- Use direct AC charge instead of USB whenever possible
- Always make sure your network (2G/3G/4G) wherever you are is strong. Weak signal will kill your battery very fast. Biggest battery drain imo on top of using mobile data on lollipop.
- Switch network to 2G when on wifi
- Toggle GPS, Data, WiFi off if not in use (I use Tasker to automate this mostly)
- Greenify + amplify
- get a custom kernel and tweak device parameters for optimum battery savings. A good deep sleep should give you less drain when screen is off.
So basically it's more to do with managing your device as well as usage.
Am on z1c stock 5.1.1 with advanced kernel v16.

I was thinking about using a custom rom like mx rom v8 or dstriker rom which are both indicated for battery life ( i also read that people are pretty happy with their battery life with both roms) and using one of this rom i thought i could use at least amplify ( maybe greenify too but not so sure) and stamina mode and energy saver both from sony. Would that be good or there are too many battery saver apps?
Thank you

I'm using OPG Pro and Greenify pro...
I started with both "free versions" and then I decided, as they did together excellent job, to buy them...
Try and see... It's up to you and your phone, as it may differ from mine... :fingers-crossed:

Both those roms have been rated to be more battery friendly. I have not used any of them as I prefer stock. However, you can't go wrong with both amplify & greenify. Greenify is just simply a must for any rooted Android user.
You can also use BBS app to check wakelocks & alarms that drain your battery. That way you'll know exactly what is eating your battery!

Thanks all
I'll try something this week and i'll update with new stats!
Hey guys,
i read again some threads and i came out with these conclusions..
1. Maybe the BEST battery life (at least based on comments is the munjeni's kk .108 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...-108latest-t2862578/post55138305#post55138305) but i don't like kk that much... i was hoping on lp
2. I saw also the DstrikerZ1 Kai ROM SP001 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/son...velopment/rom-dstrikerz1-kai-rom-4-5-t2980761 which should be good for battery life and i thought i could use stamina mode and amplify as well but i don't which kernel should i use for this rom (help me out please )
Since i like lollipop more than kitkat shall i try dstriker rom with a custom kernel (don't know which one though, don't have any idea) and i'd like to ask if someone notice a much difference beetwen these 2 roms.
Thank you all!

KK is a big winner in battery life against Lollipop
you can try munjeni s 108 build to compare with any lollipop with any kernel and see for yourself.
i love the looks of lollipop but i always come back in kit kat, have no choice because of battery life and i don t think i miss performance or any important feature from lollipop
BTW i m on kit slim evo 9,great rom also regarding battery life.
