Mistakes Were Made (apparently) - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So a bit of background.
I updated to lolipop about 2 months ago to make the notification about it go away. I was having stability issues, and wifi connectivity problems, but i wanted to wait til i was home fro school so i would have time to take care of it.
So i rooted my phone (LG G3 LS 990 using ting), and backed up my data. I used Helium on my phone and pc, as well as titanium backup, and the default LG software, so i have one copy of all my data on my pc.
So i did the factory reset.
redownload helium on the phone and try to restore apps and such. It says there was no backup ever made ( i made two, and it took like 20 minutes each so i know there were)
So i tried Titanium. It also does not register my backup as being made. So i go to the LG backup, and it only lets me restore from another lg phone for whatever reason...
THe files are on my PC as a .lbf (i hadnt seen that file extension before)
How do i get pictures, messages, and app data from that file to my phone?
Prompt help is requested, and will be greatly appreciated.

I figured out how to fix it. had to move the .lbf file into a folder on the phone and then open it inside the LG recovery tool

Upgrading the LG Thrill 4G P925 to V21A_00.KDZ FIRMWARE Official European GB

I just successfully upgraded my US LG Thrill 4G to the European Gingerbread by following adixtra's instructions on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287236 (thank you adixtra!). I ran into a few issues that I was able to resolve and wanted to share here, hoping to help others not to kill themselves on this process.
So I went through the exact steps in adixtra's instructions. Make sure you do install the http://smallsrv.com from unknown_world's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473781 to prevent the LG Tool from calling home. I didn't do this at my first try and wasted a lot of time.
BEFORE YOU PERFORM ANY CHANGES ON YOUR PHONE
Make sure you backup your data because you will probably have to do a system data wipe after the upgrade. I have been using Titanium Backup, Super Backup, and APN Backup & Restore for a while and I'm very happy with all of them. The Titanium Backup offers batch options for automation and many other useful features.
[Optional] You can write down the information under "Settings/About phone" so you can compare after the upgrade. One of the things you'll notice is that your phone will be identified as P920 instead of P925. No biggie.
Remember that the upgrade will remove root and Clockworkmode from your phone, so make sure you have the recovery.img file handy and that you can access the flash card from your computer. Refer to this thread for the recovery image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1257588.
So, after I followed all steps to the letter to upgrade my LG Thrill, the phone did a reboot, and it got stuck in the boot logo. I could not get into the recovery mode no matter what I did. So I turned it off, removed the flash card and placed it into my computer, created a folder called "data" and placed the recovery.img inside that folder. Then I was able to get into recovery mode and delete my data. Here are some good and simple steps: http://www.hard-reset.com/lg-thrill-4g-android-hard-reset.html. That's what I did.
So all your data is gone now but you have your backups!
After wiping the data you will be relieved when you see your phone come to life again with a newer and more robust OS (FINALLY!).
All you have to do now is install your backup apps and restore your data. With Titanium Backup I restored all missing apps and their data. Restored my contacts, messages, and call log using Super Backup, and restored my APN settings using APN Backup & Restore. And of course, re-design your layout the way you want it. Just like getting a new phone!
So far I have not had any issues. All features are working, including the new ones. Even the display graphics look better!
Oh, and to root your phone back again just use the Super One Click app. Simple instructions here: http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-root-lg-thrill-4g-with-super-one-click-app-guide/.
Best of luck!

EFS folder lost, Access nexus service menu?

Hello everyone!
Yesterday, I tried to upgrade to a Kit Kat rom. I used the Galaxy nexus toolkit, and did a full backup... plus an EFS backup. Afterwards, I did the full format/wipe from CWM recovery, and installed the ROM.
Well, apparently one of the options wipes your EFS file folder; I have no way of connecting to my network. My IMEI is the stock number, and I've spent hours scouring the internet trying to find a way to restore it. The majority of the responses are "try a factory reset and restore" or "too bad so sad, should've backed up". Well, I did try several options. The first being the EFS restore. Apparently, the backup is stored on the phone and wasn't sent to my computer, like the rest of the normal backups. That option is now out. Oh, how I miss SD storage.
The second was a full restore to stock, again, nothing. Third, I had an old nandroid backup. After doing these I saw that the EFS tree is left untouched, as it is so delicate. The only way to do this is give up and send it in for servicing, or to do a phone NV Backup swap with QPST.
I need to get access to the service menu (or any way to change the USB/Modem) as listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
Unfortunately, *#7284# does nothing on an i9250, nor does anything besides *#*#4636#*#*... which isn't what I need. The terminal command doesn't appear to work, either.
I don't understand very well but, have you tried to restore your EFS backup from recovery? Did you make the backup from recovery or from toolkit?

I have done a recovery from the toolkit (as the files are stored on the computer and not the phone) which is where I made the backup from, as well.
However, the EFS partition is apparently never included in this backup, as it is supposed to be immune to changes and formatting. I proved them wrong.
Well I did that same blunder last month with my nexus and then I tried all remedies plus own experiments but couldn't get results. All I heard is that to send phone to service centre. If you find any other solution so do mention here, I gave up after so many tries

@what9000 you may want to check out this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2508320
Specifically post #6 AND #9
I have personally never used the nexus backup tool, but if it does does backup the /radio folder, you may be in luck.
Well, it has been repaired. Thank you all for your help, in the end I managed to pull some things together in a mash up of fixes.
It appears that upon a new restore from a nandroid backup, I was still getting no signal. However, I did a *#06#, and my IMEI was intact. I read that the Radio folder gets backed up, but not the factory folder. Upon a new install, I imagine the radio folder is wiped, which is why every install from then on had a bunk imei (it had nothing to pull from as my factory folder is toast)
However, it looks like the efs backup I had *did* save the folder structure... I found the efs.tar backup in my galaxy nexus toolkit folder. It had the folder zip, but couldn't restore it due to permissions... didn't feel like messing with that at the moment. I copied them in with root explorer, grabbed the nv_data files from the /radio/ folder, deleted the files from /radio, and restarted. Lo and behold, they were restored from the factory folder with the correct IMEI.
I just put a fresh copy of kit kat 4.4.2 on and have cell service again. Oh happy day, I don't have to use my old HTC Sensation! :highfive:
This also marks the first time a backup actually saved my skin. Usually I vaporize the backup accidentally before it has an opportunity to prove itself useful.

Helium Backup on LG G4 (H815)

Has anyone gotten Helium to work yet?
I've been playing around with it for the last hour or so and I'm not having any luck. I've tried PTP, MTP, installing updated drivers, just won't take.
Am I missing something? Or is this just not supported yet?
ClockworkMod Support says they are currently looking into the issues. Sounds like it just doesn't like the phone for whatever reason. Bummer
I could make the PC showing "Green Tick" mark and saying phone is connected, but the app in the mobile saying "waiting for the connection in pc" which is weird.
Thank god i was at the point of doing a fresh install of Windows because i thought my drivers where screwed up

That's the same issue I was having, just making sure I wasn't crazy!
So what are the alternatives?
Getting your new phone to act like the old one is the worst part of getting a new phone. Ugh, first world problems. Actually was dreading even receiving my G4 because of this and now Helium doesn't even work.
This is my first non Nexus in a long time. How else can I move all my apps and app data over??
Yes, same problem here. I've emailed [email protected] to let them know.
I'm going to mention the unmentionable:
When you get a new iPhone on the day of release, you log in, and wait while everything is restored.
How's the average non-XDA Android owner supposed to move to a new phone?! Even us XDA readers have to wait for Helium, for boot unlock, root to catch up with us.
I got this reply from Clockworkmod support:
"Hi there, we are looking into the G4 issues now, sorry for your frustration. "
Fingers crossed!

I was able to still use Helium to backup, then did a manual restore with adb. I had a rooted Nexus 5 and used Helium like normal to do a backup. Then copied the 'carbon' folder from the Nexus 5 to my PC. What Helium is really doing is using adb to restore data, so after you have the Helium backup, you can connect your G4 to your PC (and all needed drivers) and use the command 'adb restore'. It is a bit tedious, as you need to restore each application separately, but it works. Example:
adb restore <path to carbon folder>/com.application.example/com.application.example.ab
Then follow the instructions on screen on the G4 and enter a password if you did when you did the backup in Helium.
I also used SMSBackupandRestore (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en) for SMS, MMS and call logs, since adb can't do those without root.
Got my G4 back to pretty much the same state. Would be much easier with root and Titanium, but for now it did the job.

or you could try the less tedious job of http://htc-one.wonderhowto.com/how-...-apps-your-htc-one-using-adb-for-mac-0151180/
which is essentially what helium does anyway....

There is LG Backup. Going from an LG G2, G3 maybe others, to the G4 it does a very thorough job of restoring sms/mms, call logs, apps dat/settings, etc. Coming from other Android phones it's only a matter of Google automatically downloading the apps/data and copying over the data. Contacts stored in Gmail is important. I've helped non techie friends do this - very easy.

Too bad the Verizon Fun Police took the LG Backup away, for some of us.

That's what I thought too. I've got contacts, calendar, etc on my Google account, so no problem there. However, the only data Google restored was my Google sign in (that is, access to contacts, calendar, gmail, etc) - but not the app settings themselves, not even for their own Gmail app. The concept of Google backing up and restoring app data is fantastic, but unfortunately in practice, I haven't seen it happen.
if you just want to restore some backup from previous phone to G4, you could always use adb command to do that instead of helium app, just type
adb restore "backup location", where the "backup location" is the location that you put your helium backup, the file with the extension .ab

I was able to restore my Helium backups one backup at a time (a pain but at least I got the important stuff), but I was not able to do a adb backup of my old phone (something like this "adb backup -noapk -noshared -nosystem -all -f c:\backup.ab" and restore it to the G4. It would say restoring for about 1-2 seconds and then quit with no error and nothing restored. It would have been very nice to get it work using only adb and do it all with one file and one command...

try downloading adb over wifi and try again (if you need to)
No news from Helium ? Same trouble here.

Sanity Check: my thoughts on transferring to new phone

Hi all,
Had my old LG G2 for what feels like forever, my wife defected and got an iPhone so I'm getting her G3.
On my G2 I'm (happily) running CM12.1 and want to continue that on the G3 as well.
Am I right in thinking, I can backup my sms (sms backup/restore) and my apps and data (Titanium); copy those two backups from one phone to another and restore like it was my old device?
In my head it works, but I've never tried it that way.
Or, should I do a fresh install?
Titanium has a built in sms backup feature, although that may just be a pro feature, i'm not sure. I think this should work because I've done something extremely similar. my g3 fell into the ocean but luckily Titanium had been backing up everything to google drive. At first it was difficult getting Titanium to recognize the backup, so if it doesn't see them at first, change the backup folder location to anything and then reboot and change it back to the folder with all your backups and reboot. I would suggest putting all your backups on a microsd card for transfer since downloading them from drive can take quite a long time if you backup a lot. Hope I helped

HELP! LG Backup will have a backup copy of my Whatsapp audio files?

Hello,
For some reasons I had to make a “Restore to fabric” in my LGG3 I made sure I made a backup of all my Whatsapp chats. I also made a full LGBackup including App Data (over 7GB). However after reinstalling Whatsapp and restoring its own backup from the online cloud copy, all my audio files in whatsapp conversations are gone, and they are very important as I’m involved in a trial and these audio files are required.
Before the restoration these old files wouldn’t be immediately played. I would get an animated circle icon and after some seconds the audio would be available (downloaded from the cloud?).
After restoring the phone and doing the LG Backup restore, I opened whatsapp it asked me if I wanted to download my Cloud backup copy, to which I answered "yes". All my text messages and most of my images or videos are there. However now, whenever I click on those audio files I get the message that the file is no longer in my device, and won’t even attempt to download them from the cloud.
I thought that my Whatsapp backup would include EVERYTHING and not discard the audiofiles. JPEGs etc are still downloadable but not audio files.
I don't know if restoring the whatsapp cloud backup copy has messed my LG Backup. I am not even sure if I opened and installed whatsapp before doing the LGBackup or after, I just know I made sure I clicked Backup App Data in the LG Backup options, and the back up files (2) are over 7GB together. I don't know if later on my cloud copy has erased those audio files, as it was only until a few days later that I realized they were gone.
This would be an ABSOLUTE DISASTER, had these files vanished, I also noticed that my BACKUP copy has gone down from over 4GB the moment I made it before the phone restore to 2.3GB some days ago without any intervention other than the restoration itself.
My question is:
If I restore my LG Backup file, would it contain my audio files? I wouldn't mind losing all my messages since 10 days ago, as the important ones are a few months old. I just know the online copy of my whatsapp backup (that made by whatsapp itself) doesn't contain the important Audio Files. So my only hope is that somehow they are contained in this LG Backup file which is 7GB, and either get them through whatsapp or through the database file it creates in the mobile (no clue how though).
Kind regards thank you everyone,
Luis
You can certainly try to restore it. If it backed up your entire internal memory, it will contain them. How large is it? Thats what you have to look for.
