My Asus zenfone 2 ze551mi was on CN firmware before . I decided to flash the pre-rooted system img on this website and ended up with WW firmware , i followed the instructions by downloading the OTA and then i put it in the root of the phone storage , but it starts update and end up with an error. i just want to have a non rooted and stock ww firmware on the device . is there a way out?

I also have a CN version flashed to WW.
I erased the boot image, recovery and system images using ADB then replaced them with WW version. I installed the pre-root img. for the sysem then updated. Once you update it will remove root for you, unless you find the latest pre-root files and ADB sideload that.
I believe the latest WW firmware is 2.15.40.13...
Cheers...

zenfone 2 flashing
i have this problem too. may i know how to flash the firmware? anyone know?

Have you tried an alternative method of "firmware flashing" using a MicroSD card?

I know this is a long past due thread never seeing a presentable solution and possibly not even needing one anymore, but I came across it and thought I might add to it if I can, in the event that it's found by someone else having a similar issue.
Rather than attempting to flash using adb/fastboot or using the command window or placing the update in the internal storage of the device for that matter; to apply the update try using this alternative method:
First rename the firmware zip file to the following:
MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip - No need for version numbers, world codes, region codes, etc.
Then, load the newly renamed .zip file onto a microSD card (again, not internal memory, but external) and then boot the Zenfone the same way you would when trying to get into recovery. The system should automatically recognize the .zip and on it's own, begin applying the update WITHOUTthe need of being connected to a computer. It's, in a way that's oversimplified and not to be taken literally, essentially tricking the system into thinking it's an OEM applied update and allows extraction and execution/flashing of the zip file more freely then say, through fastboot without properly set permissions and needing to be a .img file specified to a partition table address.
Hope this helps or somehow makes its way back a couple of years to the you who needed it xD If it doesn't, then simply DON'T hit the Thanks button and let me know what happens instead and I'll try to better assist you.

Stock WW 2.13.40.13.img file

Hi, I was wondering if someone could make a stock img file of ww 2.13.40.13. I seem to get system errors with the pre-rooted version and it stops me from flashing back to stock with the downloaded stock files (they come as a zip file).
Even if you could send me in the right direction to make one myself, that would be helpful.
Fixed it without the image file.
Just to let others know how,
Connected via ADB and erased system, boot.img and droid_boot.img then reflashed WW versions... All working fine now but was a few hours of frustration and hair pulling... Honestly, I look like Lex Luthor...
Same problem but didn't understand your procedure
Thank you for your solution but I didn't understand
I had the same problem : I rooted my phone by flashing pre-rooted system.img. It worked but now I want to be able to update OTA. So I need to replace pre-rooted system.img with stock one.
Can you please explain how you "erased system, boot.img and droid_boot.img then reflashed WW versions"?
I tried the following : fastboot erase system, fastboot erase cache, and then adb sideload UL-Z00A-WW-2.13.40.13-user.zip with official firmware downloaded from asus.com. But now my phone is blocked on black boot screen "ASUS in search of incredible, powered by android". I can only boot to recovery. Can you repair my phone without wiping data? Thank you.
Not even any clue
So after hours of searches, the only solution I found was to flash a pre-rooted system.img back. My phone boots again normally.
But I don't have any solution to my first problem.
When I try to flash official firmware, I do:
1. In phone recovery menu : apply adb update
2. In PC terminal : adb sideload UL-Z00A-WW-2.13.40.13-user.zip
3. At around 52% transfer, error displayed on phone :
Can't install this package (Wed Apr 1 00:14:20 CST 2015) over newer build (Fri May 29 00:14:18 CST 2015)
E:Error in sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Has anyone succeeded in getting back to a stock system after flashing a pre-rooted one? I searched in many thread and did not found any solution.

Apparently you can unroot through supersu. This should then allow OTA updates...

No I already tried to unroot via supersu, I have the same issue. As said in thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/asus-zenfone-2-flashing-recovery-mode-t3096596
"If you root via*METHOD 1*you can update SuperSu app as well as update binaries but*PLEASE DON'T apply any OTA updateas the phone*WILL GET STUCK IN A BOOTLOOP...Manually flash the firmware via adb..."
But it is not written how to revert METHOD 1 root.

From what I did, the pre-root.img was fine to OTA with as long as you don't update supersu... I flashed a pre-root.img on then applied the OTA through a 32gb or FAT32 formatted sd card and it worked fine, also took out root so you will need to put back in there if you want it....
Impossible to update with sdcard

Thank you for your reply. I tried OTA update with sdcard:
1) In Settings/About/Software information, my current version is 2.13.40
2) I dowloaded, from http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/ota-links-stock-rom-t3093999 update from 2.13 to 2.14
3) Copied to external sd, in root folder, and renamed zip to MOFD_SDCARD.zip
4) Rebooted in recovery
5) Update failed. Here is my log:

This is because the version of system.img is 2.18 and the fimware version is 2.13.
Indeed I have 2 choices:
- override system with a system.img in version 2.13, but I cannot find any.
- try to apply OTA update 2.17 to 2.18 or 2.18 to 2.19 but it seems risky.
Finally I found!!! I think that a version of the firmware is tagged in system partition and another version (classically the same) is tagged in data partition (this is the one you see in Parameters -> About -> Firmware version). When I wanted to flash a firmware the same version as the one written in parameters (2.13), my phone refused to downgrade because the version of system was higher (2.18). So I had to format the system partition, apply update with official 2.18 firmware. And it worked! My phone was unrooted and I could apply method 3 root.
My issue occurred because I made the following:
1) bought a phone with a 2.13 firware
2) used it for months, applied OTA updates until 2.18
3) flashed a 2.18 pre-rooted system.img
4) used it for weeks until a made an update of supersu
5) my phone couldn't boot any more, so I wiped data (I could avoid that, if I knew!). It made a factory reset, ie get back firmware to 2.13, but system was still in 2.18
Here is the procedure to revert a phone flashed with a pre-rooted system.img (to sell it, send back to warranty, or root with another method):
1) Download official firmware from asus website in the same or higher version of your pre-rooted system.img. Do not rely on version in Parameters -> About -> Firmware version. Or simply download the latest version.
2) In your phone bootloader, enter the following commands with your PC:
fastboot erase system (I'm not sure it is necessary)
fastboot format system
3) With your phone, go into recovery menu, then to "Update with adb"
4) With your PC, go to the directory where you downloaded the firmware as zip, and enter the following command: adb sideload nom_du_fichier_teléchargé.zip
5) It takes about an hour
6) You can reboot
After that I used method 3 to root again, so that I can now OTA update exactly the same way I used to do before rooting. Moreover, I think I can update supersu as well.
tried this method, and it fails with a /sideload/package.zip error using the .18 zip. Trying to unlock as i took the .22 update... root works fine though

Someone said you need to use fastboot to flash droidboot.img, boot.img, system.img and recovery.img to go back to an older version. Not sure if this works as I unlocked bootloader when I had the chance.
If you can't then you might have to wait for the "Official" unlock tool but ASUS will know and you will be out of warranty.

VERY IMPORTANT - Make sure you have checked the MD5 checksum on the boot, droid_boot and recovery image files as these are definitely needed to boot phone. If these are corrupt then you can brick your phone... You have been warned...
Download firmware from here-http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/orig-development/rom-pre-root-img-t3079590
It is pre-rooted but the other files needed are included in the folder.
2. Put phone in fastboot mode and erased droid_boot.img, boot.img, recovery.img and system.img using command "fastboot erase (put choice here)"
3. Flash the files I just erased back on using fast boot - "
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash fastboot droidboot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
This got me the pre-rooted 2.13.40.13. As the supersu has been inserted it is fine to use OTA to update, just make sure you don't update supersu before the OTA flash.
Good luck....
And may you retain a strand or 3 of hair like Homer Simpson....

[Q] ASUS Stock Firmware

So, i downloaded the stock firmware from asus Support Helpdesk (The Full one)
i Already entered recovery and selected apply update from adb
adb devices returns my device serial number (So connection is alright)
when i enter
adb sideload myfile.zip (myfile.zip refers to the zip i downloaded from asus helpdesk. About 1GB size)
it says cannot read 'myfile.zip'
any ideas anybody???
I,m doing this to restore my device to the stock state. I do not want to flash the various droidboot, recovery and boot images which change my serial number and void my warranty.
Thanks in advance

With other devices you had to extract the ROM from the zip you downloaded from the Asus website. idk if it is the same case here.
I'm in the same Boat, and I'm finding to difficult to just flash a stock firmware., and be back at Stock
Rename it to MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip and put it on the root of your SD card get into recovery mode and let it do it's thing.
I'm trying to under standard the logic here, so any insight would help.
I've tried the MOFD_SDUPDATE.zip to the SD and Internal Mem with no luck.
First what's the differance between the JP WW CN updates on Asus's website. Different Hardware i assume.
Here's what I did to get updated
I downloaded the update from "OTA links for stock ROM by shakalaca" and just pushed it over using ADB, wiped cache, and factory reset.
Seeing that I stared with WW_2.17.40.12 as my factory ROM right from the asus website, and updated it with WW_2.18.40.12 OTA, I'm Good. or did i miss the updates from V2.17.40.17 CN. I'm assumeing the OTA just didn't roll out to me yet.
THX
I bet you have the extensions hidden in windows, and the filename is .zip.zip. I've done the same before.

If there are no errors will it show something on the screen or just directly reboot on completion?
I might try a different computer and cable..

The firmware file should be like this, there should be a "user" in the filename.
UL-Z00A-WW-2.17.40.12-user.zip
Sometimes ASUS zipped the firmware and the filename when you download is like this:
UL-Z00A-WW-2.17.40.12.zip
the you need to unzip it first...
Did you check if your download is complete? Open with Winrar or something and see if it throws any extraction errors. Does the site give md5sums? If so check that too.

the dm-verity is not started in enforcing mode and may not work properly

My phone is the ASUS Zenfone 3 deluxe (zs550kl) model and its bricked only can enter fastboot or adb still but my os will not boot I tried going to asus website for stock firmware (UL-Z018-WW-11.40.71.37-user.zip) and stock kernel (ZS550KL_Kermel_11_40_71_37.zip). how do I install these to fix my phone unless there is a better way to make it boot. by the way im new to android I always had iphone jailbroken until last year I am android now but give me noob instructions for the how to. maybe I should add this I already have adb/fastboot installed and the commands for adb devices or fastboot devices when in fastboot mode both recognize my device so maybe my commands are wrong or something but I tried every way I could toinstill firmware and not sure what to flash kernel as the zip or the file unzipped please help thanks in advance. Not sure why this happened exactly but my bootloader is unlocked already but was never rooted so if there is another way to install another custom firmware besides stock I would like those instructions also thanks again
first off your phone is soft brick meaning all you have to do is flash the stock android software back onto your phone.
install to sd card -> boot into recovery (stock or twrp whatever you have works)
flash from sd
let it load (this will work if you have the correct files)
it will reboot and will work good as new again.
you shouldnt have to flash the kernal, just the UL-Z0 file.
That would have worked yesterday but im having another issue now basically instead of waiting for a response on here I went ahead and did other stuff now my recovery menu is not showing up so I cant install from sd now the only option I'm getting is fastboot so is there a way to fix the stock recovery option or even install a custom recovery which might be eaiser because my bootloader is already unlocked. I was going to try to flash stock recovery my self but not sure how exactly I know I use fastboot flash recovery (recovery file name in the folder) and I think it's .img but not sure so I think it will be either .zip or .img file type but not sure what it will be called if it's stock or custom and not sure where to find either. Last issue I'm not sure of is the actual files I downloaded from asus.com the firmware for my specific phone model not working when I try to flash it as the .zip file so my question is do you need to do something with it such as edit the script of something inside the zip of it and I also downloaded the kernel for my specific phone model from the Asus site and not sure if I needed it when flashing stock rom back to device or how to even flash it on the device please help if you can and I know some questions might be dumb to you but remember I'm a noob when it comes to Android recently left iPhone and I was a pro there every phone had a jailbreak and all types of stuff so I know I can get this just takes time I'm sure
I have this exact issue with a new Padfone Infinity A86... No access to stock recovery, only fast boot... But in my case I'm even unable to flash the recovery.img from a firmware package...
I'm wondering if you guys can help this person, maybe there is something in that solution for my Padfone
1: download the full firmware package
2: use sdat2img to convert the sparse system image to a regular one
3: use fastboot to flash the stock boot.img & the newly converted system.img
4: hoping you didn't flash the recovery partition, if you did, reflash the stock dump from the file in my Bootloader unlock thread via fastboot
5: reboot to recovery & do a factory reset
Read the documentation at each step, do your research, learn the process.

[HELP] Can't flash Stock 7.0Nougat via Stock Recovery...

I got a ZF3 Deluxe from Italy, is TIM branded, and stuck on MM 6.0, no updated released for this brand, so a friend of mine told me there is of course android 7 for ZF3Deluxe, so i wanted to manually upgrade system to 7.0 Nougat, i downloaded the Stock ROM from asus (2.15ghz cpu, i've checked of course) but when i try to flash it from the Stock Recovery i get this error (see the attachment) i also attach the software informations, (looking at the error i receive it may see the archive is corrupted, but i've tried to download it from Asus many and many times)
You have a carrier rom on your phone and the international version fails the upgrade check.
If you could get your bootloader unlocked that would be a way around it but you need to upgrade to a certain rom version to do that and the carrier hasn't supplied that rom...
You're essentially screwed until the carrier either releases the bootloader unlockable rom or upgrades the rom to nougat...

You should try to flash stock recovery of WW in fastboot.
And then flash 6.0 WW rom by WW recovery.
Even though ,I didn't sure that if it will work(because I don't have Z016S),but you can try it.

I forgot to say, after this procedure, just flash the stock WW recovery via Fastboot, then download from asus the lastest 7.0 firmware SKU WW, all perfect. tested by me.
Ok I already have system.new.img, I copied it to the root folder of the SD. Device restart in Fastboot mode (power + vol.up key). Exit screen with message Fastboot mode and does nothing.
Install in the computer the pyton 3.6, I suppose that it serves for the process of generating system.new.img.
I do not know how to do the first step "Install: ADB & Minimal Fastboot.".
Thank you and forgive my translator

Try this
or try flash ZenFone 3 Deluxe ZS570KL_WW stock recovery of 4.12.40.1698 and flash UL-Z016-WW-4.12.40.1698-user.zip in recovery (by micro sd or adb sideload)not sure if it work(need verification,I wish you to try first).
Please help me, my model is the Z016S
I can convert UL-Z016-WW-4.12.40.1698-user.zip img and flash with fastboot.
Reboot and it works, but I do not know how to get into recovery.
I have also installed the Z016-WW-4.11.40.1085_recovery.img. The TIM DISAPPEARED
Then I copied the UL-Z016-WW-5.14.44.1898-user.zip into the internal memory and it does not install well.
I have proven the same with UL-Z016-WW-5.14.44.1898-user.zip and it does not work me it stays in a non-comands and will not boot.
greetings and thanks
P.S. At least you do not see the TIM anywhere.

reboot, boot system, detect update file is installed, reboot and then gives error (3) unknown.

Tow solution you can try
1.install the rom of 4.12.40.1698 again(some of tile, such as xbl,devcfg,devcfgbak..... may be still TIM versio.install it in recovery may turn it into WW version)
2.If fail, try flash these files in fastboot.(I will upload these files for you to flash, also you can draw by yourself)
Ok already worked, the solution is to unlock as you put in # 11.
Thank you

Ok, that does not seem too bad, yet.
I suppose you are using system.img downloaded from web.
That image has given many that same error.
Best to use your system.img.
And the error flashing twrp, is common when using the nougat command or nougat recovery on Oreo.
Solutions.
Find your firmware on pro-teammt
http://pro-teammt.ru/firmware-database/?firmware_model=Bnd-&firmware_page=0
Then download update.zip
Extract files.
Get hauwei update extractor.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...FjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw0xkKEyI85nY9x4Fjr1AWJl
Extract the system.img
Then fastboot flash it.
Recovery:
Oreo command== fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk twrp_ramdisk
Twrp name depends on version used. I use build 4 from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10-lite/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-t3783447

yes there is a bug either in the extractor or the update files. they all do it. Go to the settings tab and take check mark off verify header.

I flashed the system.img but now the phone bootloops. It could be possible I got the wrong system.img because I don't know exactly what firmware my phone was on before I messed up. I only know it was EMUI8. Is there a way to completely reflash everything?

Yes. I have guide thread here for that.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7x/how-to/guide-honor-7x-flash-oreo-update-t3781649
But also wipe in factory reset from stock recovery may solve the bootloop.

I tried rebooting to stock recovery in order to factory reset but it only shows me the update, power off and reboot options so no factory reset possibility. I read through the entire thread you linked here but I'm very confused as to what to do with the full OTA file. I'm on a broken EMUI8 that bootloops and I'd like to clean flash EMUI8 again so I can flash an AOSP Oreo rom after that. What do I do?

Just made updates to guide last night. I think it is worded simple now.
Download my update "package" from step E
Extract it to a folder on your PC.
You are on emui8, so copy the HWOTA folder from the extracted zip to your sdcard
Also put hwota-update-7-8-auto.zip on sdcard.
Put the three (3) update files from pro-teammt.ru in the HWOTA8 folder on your sdcard
Put card into phone
Boot into twrp
Select install
Choose sdcard as source
Install hwota-update-7-8-auto.zip

So far so good but the FULLOTA update file I got from that website only has one file (update.zip) Do I need to extract that? And if so, what 3 files do I put on my sdcard?

No do not extract it.
On that site, next to link for update file, is "file list"
Click this. It gives links for all three files.
Put those three zip files into hwota folder

Alright, I got it! Now I need to flash TWRP but the executable to install TWRP says my adb drivers are outdated. I have the minimal fastboot and adb installation from XDA.

That should be fine.
Usually means you have other adb also , probably from other tool.
If you have twrp , not need to use the terp recovery installer

Well the problem is I don't have TWRP and none of the versions i've tried to install work. The installer doesn't work either, it says closing adb daemon and stays on that.

Dude, you're the man! I got my device up and running again. I'll probably stay on EMUI8 since it's more stable than the current AOSP rom. I wanna root it tho so can I just use the lazy recovery tool to install twrp and simply install magisk?
