M8 SystemUI stopped...HELP!!! - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I accidentally wiped my M8 while flashing a rom. All of my backups are gone. When I flash any rom, i get the systemUI stopped message and my background is all black. I need help. Please tell me what info you need to get me out of this mess. I am rooted running viper rom. No matter what rom I flash my system UI still wont work. My rom was working great but I decided to do a flash to refresh things... now this problem came up.

Format data in TWRP. Pretty much any time you wipe internal storage, this will happen. Doesn't happen on Kitkat.

Could you please explain? Thank you so much.

Sure. Just boot back into twrp recovery and select wipe. You will see wipe factory data reset slider, right above the you will see format data. Hit that, type yes and then enter. That's it, back out and reboot.

Got it, working on it now. I formatted data, then did a factory wipe, not trying to install rom again... Ill let you know. Thanks again... Funny Ive never paid attention to the format data option when flashing.

No problem. Just make a future note that on Lollipop if you wipe internal, and you can all you want, just need to format data before flashing that Rom or do it after the flash.

[Q] Stuck at the HTC splash screen looping

Hi all,
I decided to remove Cyanogen today from my Inc2(obv). I loaded up the recovery I flashed with Clockwork last week. When my phone rebooted it got stuck at the HTC splash screen. Now all it does is loop the splash screen over and over again. Does anyone have an idea as to what i could do?
Did you wipe data and caches before flashing?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
yes I did. This wasnt the first phone that I have rooted, so I am confused as to why it is doing this. On my old Droid by doing what I did above, I was able to remove cyanogen easily.
Did you make a nandroid backup first,if you did that just go to recovery and then go to backup and restore and select restore and just choose your backup, and then restart.

Do the following in recovery:
Factory reset
Wipe data
Wipe dalvik
Format all partitions except sdcard.
Enjoy aosp
I'm sure you are coming from a sense rom and there is residue left on your system partition. Formatting all partitions will help here.

You've tried literally everything? First and foremost you Wiped Data/Cache/Dalvik and then also Formatted System and Data manually before flashing? Formatting system and data is under "Mounts and Storage." I know a lot of people wouldn't get past the boot screen because they didn't do that...

I only format /system or /data (if need be) before flashing a rom, never cache or dalvik, which are hash signed. A new rom, a new flash, a new /system, has different hash, which leads to cache and dalvik being rebuilt on first boot after a flash.

Okay let me simplify everything for you and you will not need to pay anyone for assistance. All you have to do is initially erase all data and factory reset, then install the new JellyBean ROM using clockworkmod recovery and after that wipe cache and dalvik cache..you can run fix permissions (i did but not sure if it matters.) If it still is stuck on the boot screen then wipe data again, reinstall JB rom, wipe cache and dalvik cache and wipe anything else you can wipe. After all that mine started working normally. If you are still stuck sent me a PM and I can assist you from Atlanta GA and for free!

Go into ClockworkMod Recovery, then Advanced, then Fix Permissions
I had a very hard time doing it too. The first time I did it I, when I setup the phone, it kept having every app crash, one after another. Managed to get back into CWM and try to restore my ICS and it kept giving me errors. I finally read something about a super wipe, but it didn't say it worked for the GNex, so I just did a cache wipe, and did the data wipe 4 times, and then installed JB one more time, and it finally worked. I never had to fix permissions or anything like that. Perhaps your phone just needs some extra wipes like mine.

CM10 M2 Bootloop Gnex

Need some quick help here. I unlocked and rooted my gnex. I have done this several times before and with all my other android phones. As soon as I rooted it, I flashed the new 4.2 gapps package. Upon booting, the launcher would not respond and thusly I could not access my home screen or app drawer. I had to open my apps from the google now target on the lock screen. As I read more, I heard not to flash the 4.2 gapps unless you have flashed another rom.
So I went to chrome, dl'ed the cm10 m2 zip, went into rom manager and flashed the cm10 and 4.2 gapps again. Now upon booting, the cyanogenmod icon is bootlooping, and has been for the last ten minutes. I went back into recovery and tried the process again, this time wiping the cache and dalvik, to no avail...same bootloop.
Please help!

Is there a way of flashing stock that does not require a wipe?
Also I did make a nandroid of the stock rooted rom, but for some reason, after flashing that, the cyanogenmod logo stilled appeared at boot...

U need to wipe cache/dalvik/factory reset/system(u need to do this every time before flashing a ROM) , do it like 3 times and re-flash ROM. Don't worry about ur photos, they r in the internal memory and u don't need to wipe it, so u won't lose them.

Which file did you flash? You could've used the 'maguro' (GSM) one instead of the 'toro' (Verizon) one

Nope. Factory Reset doesn't wipe the internal SD. It should be located inside the wiping options(I'm using TWRP recovery). Anyways u should wipe cache/dalvik/factory reset/system before flashing a ROM not just factory reset.

It was just taking that plunge of wiping data that was freaking me out. I had some pics that i absolutely could not lose, but after reading on it more, it makes sense that the wipe would not format the internal sd.
Thanks again!

[Q] Cant Restore My Phone

Hello.
I want to restore my friends galaxy s2 (t989), but no matter what I do it will not restore. I tried odin and I tried flashing a different rom through cwm recovery, but everytime i boot it up after restoring it stays the same way. Meaning that all of the app, settings, photos, etc remain on the phone. As if I didnt even try to restore it. I am guessing it is a virus but I dont know how to remove it Another hint that it is a virus, every time i remove or install a new app from the play store, when I reboot the changes are un-done, meaning that the apps that I removed come back, and the apps that I installed are gone. It is almost as if it is stuck on a state and keeps reverting to it after every reboot. Anybody have any suggestions? Thanks
Try doing a factory reset in the phone settings then go into recovery and wipe as if u are about to flash another ROM. Manually put the phone into download mode and try to restore from there

In recovery go to mount and storage section. Then format data, system, and cache. Then factory data reset. This will fix it. The same way you format a sd card and it wipes it clean thats what happens when you format data, system, and cache.

Thank you guys for answering, I tried both methods but neither worked. After some more research I found out what is causing this to happen. Apparently the internal memory of the phone is stuck as read only, I don't know how he did that. While I am searching for a way to make is read and write, I came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025475 but it is for the skyrocket and there was no solution. However, I also came across this http://androidforums.com/incredible-support-troubleshooting/347685-internal-phone-storage-becomes-read-only.html for the HTC Incredible, but to be honest I have no idea what he did and whether or not it will work on this phone. Do you guys have any idea how make the internal memory of his phone read and write instead of read only? Any help is appreciated thank you.

Im bad at explaining stuff so let me try explaining it a different way.
Like I said, I want to change the rom on my friends phone. I have a fair amount of experience in doing this since I also have an s2 running jedi knight 6. As usual, I would reboot into recovery, wipe system/factory reset, wipe cache/dalvik then install rom. This is where it gets weird, after I boot up the phone, it goes back to the way it was, as if I did not wipe anything. I even tried flashing a completely different rom and I even tried restoring it back to stock rom through ODIN nothing happens. Also, the mount toggle in root explorer is only for the root system, not the internel memory of the phone. Thanks for the help though.
Ok use titanium backup. Two options guaranteed to work. Find the wipe all system and data option use that. If that doesn't work find unintegrate system dalvik option and use that. One these should definitely work.

Your probably gonna have to use odin to flash the stock firmware to the phone, you will lose root and all your internal data though. You should always clear data/factory reset before doing this but since you don't have that option you might just have to flash over everything and hope for the best. Or you could also try flashing a TWRP tar through odin also and hope it fixes your recovery. You could also try flashing a CWM tar in odin if you cant find the twrp tar then from cwm flash twrp.

Sounds like you were doing something else..
Cuz you didn't say exactly what you were doing b4 this all started. Going off of assumption.. what it might be
so since you're saying after you turn on the phone it shuts down right after, have you tired going into download mode so you can re flash whatever Rom you had on there! Or you might just have to go back to a stock image !! To fix your issues.

I would try this^^^^^. Have you tried wiping internal storage and formatting data? I wipe cache, delvic cache, data, sytem, internal storage and format data 3 times each and that seems to wok well for me. Of course your going to lose all your data but its a very good wipe method.

Just a suggestion and it can't hurt anything.
Why not just remove the sd card to see if that stops the freezes?
Boot to recovery now that you are running and wipe data/factory reset the device again. ..
Then boot and set up again. ..
Then run the device for 2 days before evaluation again. .
Android OS MUST SETTLE before any real trouble shooting can be done with any accuracy. ..g
