Apparently you don't have custom recovery installed, flash it first.
fastboot flash recovery *name of the recovery*.img
After that you can boot into custom recovery and start flashing stuff Make sure you do a nandroid backup

Sony stock recovery cannot be used to flash recoveries (Even you can only boot into stock recovery using ADB commands).
Firstly you will need to flash CUSTOM recovery. this can be done via fastboot commands.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img where recovery.img is the name of your custom recovery. (you will need fastboot drivers and platform tools, if you arenot sure what I am talking about ask in details)
Next you will need to flash kernel via recovery by holding volume+down button while sony logo shows when you restart your phone.
Or simply you can just flash kernel directly via fastboot commands without any need to flash recovery
Good Luck!

Thanks, i figured it out. I downloaded the DooMKernel's recovery and flashed it with the flashtool. Thanks
I for some reason can't get the stock recovery to flash the root file or any stock firmware. Also I can't get it to change recoveries for some reason I've tried in terminal with a few different ones and tried flashing the stock one also but it won't change. Does anything know how to fix this? Is there a back to stock thing I can flash it? I've been searching for days with no luck. Thanks

You have to flash the latest stock recovery! They patched the stock recovery and hashed for that!
Flash a custom recovery and make a nandroid backup. Save your backup for security reasons to your pc then install coloros completely new from 1.2.1and only update it with ota to 1.2.4 . Now use fastboot to boot from a custom recovery like Philz.(fastboot boot recovery.img)
Recovery.img should be replaced with the name of your recovery. Twrp won't work for this plan!, cause it don't backs up the recovery. Now make again a backup. Save the recovery.img from backup safely. Now restore your old backup and flash the captured stock recovery. Tada now your ota update should work fine!
Cheers
got it thanks a lot!! got root and that custom recovery worked! thanks again!!

How did you get stock 2.0 to your phone?
I'm having some trouble with installing a new recovery. I want to have TWRP because I want to install a ROM that requires it. At the moment I have some old CWM but when I flash TWRP and reboot into recovery I still get into CWM.
So how do I replace CWM or at least boot into TWRP?

Try 4ext recovery, in my opinion i think its better. Also u cant flash recovery "flash zip from sdcard" u have to either use fastboot command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Or via PB99IMG method or using the 4ext app but u can only use the app once ur phone is booted.

If you are using custom rom, then simply download rom extract boot.img and place it on desktop, open odin and flash twrp in odin, after that reboot to recovery and put extracted boot.img in your phone, after that just flash it on boot partition! If stock then download latest firmware and flash it on odin!
