[Q] Does anyone switch back and forth between Adaptive Display settings? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi:
Does anyone switch back and forth between adaptive display, amoled cinema, amoled photo or basic to save battery or for other reasons?
Thanks,
Tom

I leave it set to adaptive display, If you are into photography, basic mode has the least colour saturation.
I use the stock video player as it is supported by the adaptive display when third-party ones are not, I sometimes turn the adaptive display off in the video player, just press the icon at the top right of the screen as some video`s seem to look better.
I doubt there is any real difference in power usage, if there is it will be minimum.
I have been trying to work out how much extra power that software decoding use over hardware decoding in the stock video player, I watch most video`s at 640x360 resolution as i can fit more on my 64gb microsd, and software uses around 650ma a hour and hardware use around 550ma an hour with low brightness as i prefer to watch at night, also be aware higher resolution video`s use more battery power as the cpu and gpu has to work harder, more reason to use lower resolution video files.

Wallpapers with TouchFlo running

I cannot seem to find the answer to what i have a question on, i see so many cool wallpapers and i dont know how to get them to run on my HD whilst TF is active. Seems I can only get my today screen to reflect the photo i select if i turn OFF touch flo, no good. Support? Thanks
Set the wallpaper via the setting menu on TouchFlo3D rather than the settings for the Today screen.
yes, bt doing so yeilds a low quality picture. any idea how we can set a high resolution pic (800x480) as the background to actually use the screen's full potential?

it is possible but the only way of doing it is a complex hack which is rather time consuming and the results are not perfect. if you would like me to write up the instructions i will do so when i get back on my pc. (browsing on my phone atm) the hack involves inserting pngs into system files and hex edits.
I've created a theme with a high quality wallpaper which you can find here

Is there any way to make the screen brighter for movies/videos???

I can't watch any movies... its way too black!!!!!!!! Otherwise the tablet is perfect, but it would be nice to watch a trailer without trying to figure out what is happening.
Surfing the web = 10
Functionality = 10
QPair = 10
However watching videos = 1
Is there a fix or should I just return this tablet for something else?
Uh... just turn the brightness up and turn off auto brightness. Or get MX player and... Turn up the brightness in the app's display settings

Brighter Video Playback
The "Filter Your Screen - Free" app has dramatically improved video playback using the LG Video viewer, BS Player, and MX Player. The settings that work for me are: Alpha 30; Red 200; Green 200 and Blue 220. I also set the Display Brightness in "Settings" to 85% or higher.
After viewing a video, I set the Brightness back to around 50% and turn the Screen Filter off and it seems to save the battery. I can only get about 5 hours of battery life with the brightness set high and the Screen Filter on.
Hope this helps.
I'm the same I tried to watch a movie on YouTube and it was unwatchable think I might be trading this

Thank you for the tip on this app. I will try it and update my thread to also recommend the app. I'm going to use it for a few days and see if it affects my battery life negatively. With the screen adjuster app running, I can easily go a day or two before having to charge my tablet.
Thanks

I have found Lux auto brightness FREE in Car mode makes dark scenes in movies much much better. No noticeable difference in battery consumption either.

This made it so that movies seemed to drop frames and causing the playback to be a tad jittery. Also the whole UI became slower and the level of microlag increased.
Isn't there a flashable fix for this instead of applying stuff that renders a "fix" in real time and thus causing misc gpu rendering problems?
As of right now no.
Used filter my screen and it works like a charm. I see no playback issues while its on. I used it with MX player.

Any easy way to fix Cinema Amoled colors?

Hi, in my opinion Cinema Amoled mode makes red/orange look weird
Like intense red turns into somethink like grey/red and orange turns into yellow
I was trying to watch The Martian and everithing looks yellow, like the red sand of mars is the prrcise tone of red that changes into yellow (so i had yo use Photo Amoled, but I dont like the white calibration on that mode) Why Samsung made that weird color calibration?
Maybe the perfect mode will be something like Auto before it turns into Cinema, I mean, if you are in a movie and you change between modes, then you activate Auto Mode, you can see few seconds before it turns into Cinema. and I think Auto looks better, is like Photo but with cooler white... Also I like the higher contrast and intense blue and green of the Cinema mode...
There is any easy way to fix? I found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal.../guide-loadable-mdnie-color-profiles-t2828089
But I dont really know if is what im looking for, also I think that method look risky :silly:
Maybe someone made an installable mod with the colors fixed?
Or maybe there is any way to make Auto Mode permanent without changing when I see a movie? Some king of video player that tablet doesnt recognize as it?
I always leave my display colour set to auto on my T800, it only works with a few Samsung apps, like the stock video player, or stock browser and a few others, it does not work with third-pary video players or apps.
Have you checked you screen is not faulty, like it`s yellowish or greenish instead of being white, try a screen tester app showing a white screen, if your screen is OK
I only ever use the stock Samsung video player on my T800 and i virtually always leave the adaptive display enabled, now and then i find a video that looks better with the adaptive display disabled.

The screen is OK, with adaptative the white is good, with Photo is warm white
Im using MX player, and stock and the screen chage into Cinema with all video apps I tried, including Youtube
I'll try another video apps not so popular and look if the screen doesnt turn into Cinema Mode, but I'd like to fix it and use MX, maybe there is any way to exclude MX player from the "Cinema Mode Apps"?
Edit: Okay, with VLC Player the screen stays in Auto without changing to Cinema, great
Anyway, I'll keep looking to fix the red/orange tone in cinema

Display calibration tool?

Back in the day, I used DVD Essentials to calibrate my home theater video inputs. The difference before and after calibration was literally day vs night.
I've read about the various display options for the Tab S4, and have it set for adaptive display, but I don't have any objective way to set the color balance. Are there any apps out there that you use for setting color balance, contrast level, black level, etc? Is color balance the only adjustment we get?
Thanks,
Jod

You'll more than likely need to have a custom kernel, like Modesty, installed that allows those types of changes.
Back in the day I used my Xrite Colormonki to calibrate my Note Pro 12.2. My Tab S4 wont arrive for a couple of weeks but when it does I will give it a try.

How to turn off adaptive display? White balance and RGB settings not working?

Does anyone know how to turn off the s20's adaptive display feature? (I'm not asking about adaptive brightness.) I'm on a US snapdragon, unlocked, regular S20. Thanks!
I am referring to:
"Samsung's adaptive super AMOLED screen optimizes the color range, saturation, and sharpness of the picture depending on what you're watching or doing."
https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00063051/
The vivid/natural, white balance, and advanced RGB settings mentioned in that link do NOT seem to impact the adaptive display feature. (And in fact, white balance and RGB settings don't seem to do anything at all... If anyone has thoughts about why THAT is, or how to make them actually have an effect, I'm interested.)
I have tried turning off dark mode completely, turning off the video enhancer, and turning off the dark mode on wallpaper, but the problem persists and impacts things like apps and pages in Chrome - basically everything.
If I look at my task switcher, app screens will often look the way I want them to in the preview, but when I click on one, after about a second the display adjusts and changes the image to something brighter, whiter, and less what I want. This is true whether adaptive brightness is on OR off.
I'm trying to use a screen filter to manually set the screen to the settings I need, and it feels like the screen is fighting the filter and countering it, and I think this business with the adaptive display optimizing color and saturation could be the problem. Or if you have other ideas for the source of the problem, I want to hear them.
Any help is appreciated!

It was something like attached picture on Note 9
Ah hah! I think I figured out a solution to my problem (which was that the whites were too blue and bright and vivid as compared to everything else on the screen, no matter what settings I used on Twilight or another screen filtering app). For anyone who comes after me with a similar issue: the native blue light filter doesn't JUST turn on/off - it has an opacity setting which you can find and adjust by clicking on "blue light filter" in your display settings menu, to the left of the on/off toggle switch. Turning it all the way up (to the right) tones down the whites and blues without impacting the rest of the colors on the screen, which for me at least creates a much better color display ratio.
