[Q] Help with updating to Lollipop - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I am attempting to update to lollipop from 4.4.4
I have made attempts to flash a new stock recovery and update via OTA (I used the recovery.img from the firmware update file as I could not find a copy of my phones stock recovery). Unfortunately I keep hitting into the following error:

You're trying to install an OTA not meant for you device. Did you read what you posted? You are on Voda and your error says HTC Asia India.
In your version-main, the third series in the numbers (710 in your case) tells you what firmware to look for. x.xx.720.x firmware will not work with x.xx.710.x devices
---------- Post added at 01:49 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:31 AM ----------
So, I did a little research on your model. It's compatible with WWE firmware.
Get S-Off, go super-CID, and flash 4.16.401.10 firmware to get to Lollipop.

Thanks for the help so far! I've worked around with the update again. The current error involves:
Verifying current system...
"/system/xbin/nc" has unexpected contents.
E:Error in /data/media/0/Download/OTA_M8_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_TC_Asia_AUS_4.20.710.5-3.32.710.9_release_422858pejm5dmm1iw9qfn.zip
(Status 7)
I've read this error is due to Xposed installing onto the system portion of M8. I read one of your posts previously and proceeded as follows:
Attempted to uninstall Xposed and all modules. The error however continues to persist. Xposed does not seem to be able to complete a clean uninstall. In my framework section it says "app_process, active 58".
I have read it is possible to create a nandroid and flash the system portion. is anyone able to point me in the right direction as to how I can do this?
Cheers

Are you in Australia and on Voafone? Because that is what that OTA is for. Are you also on the stock ROM and using the stock recovery? Because you need to be for OTAs.
EDIT: Sorry, I should have read back. The version matches yours.
How are you trying to update exactly? Are you trying to flash an OTA downloaded from XDA, or have you gone back to stock ROM and recovery, and let your carrier push out the OTA?

"/system/xbin/nc" has unexpected contents. ------ this is the problem, just because you removed xposed and root etc, doesn't change the fact that this fiule has been modified and still contains the modifications.
your only hope is to find a backup or RUU of your current version main, a clean backup, and flash / restore it, then flash stock recovery and update, this is why its always highly advised by everyone here to do a backup before you start messing.
failing that, you can get s-off with sunshine at $25 and convert your phone, or another alternative, is you can download the OTA, select install later, copy the OTA from your phone to your computer, open it, its just a zip file and pull out the file named firmware.zip, boot to your bootloader, lock your bootloader and flash the firmware.zip, at least then you will be on the latest firmware and beable to use a custom Lollipop rom.
EDIT: clean TWRP backup of your current rom is here: https://mega.co.nz/#!Tk0iHLTb!iXYnE9bYIwdBKrCrQ7XiHkZMgmDpTsp_EHtj3Otxexk

Hello everybody.
I have some problems with my Marvel. First something to my Phone.
Android: 2.3.5
Sense: 2.1
Software: 2.14.111.1
hboot: 1.08.0099
Radio: 7.53.39.03M

So i would like too flash the Rom.
But nothing works

With hboot it is doing something but is the 2.14 version already.
With Goldcard...nothing :-(
What i'm doing wrong ?
Please help
Now i tried again with RUU but i got Error [155]
First, try installing a custom recovery boot menu. Clockworkmod (CWM) seems to be a popular choice:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZL62BUZjmgw
That clip will show you how.
Once your bootloader is modded, you'll be able to place your ROM (*.zip) file directly on the root of your SD card, boot into your new recovery loader (CWM), and then follow the prompts until you get to install a zip file from the SD Card.
There are detailed steps for this available on the Interweb, but the above should provide a good starting ground for you.

...oh, and all of that assumes that you've already unlocked your phone!
If you haven't (*slap*) then Google "htcdev" and take it from there.
Bonne chance,

Thanks, but when i'm doing it with the Rom Manager there is this Error message.

Don't use that method. Use CWM as I described earlier.
Also, confirm that your phone is unlocked and rooted.
I suspect your phone has S-ON, like me, so HTCDev + CWM would be your best bet.
Search for tips with those keywords. There's plenty of helpful guides on this forum alone.

[Q] Not able to update my HOX to 4.18.401.2

Hi all,
Today my phone notified me there was an update available for my device, 4.18.401.2, which included stuff like Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5. I went ahead and downloaded it and my phone prompted me to install it. I hit the button and the phone rebooted, but to my surprise it went into CWM and came up with the following error:
Finding update package...
E: unknown volume for path [INTERNALSDCARDownload/OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_50_S_HTC_Europe_4.18.401.2-3.20.401.1_release_3302999mwn06o7zbi85sv7.zip]

So, I tried to manually install the .zip in CWM:

On some website I read this:
Just make sure your phone already runs with 3.20.401.3, likely if you are still on 3.20.401.1 you might encounters install error via CWM custom recovery. Install this first.
(sorry, can't post URL here because I don't have 10 posts yet.)

When I upgraded to 4.2.2 everything was wiped too.
1) It DOES warn you that you may lose ALL DATA, including SD. READ the install notes. They are there for a reason.
2) On that basis I backed up everything. Hope you did.

OTA 1/2 installation aborted, fingerprints not equal!

Hi,
so the first time I need help with my htc....
My current situation is the following, I like to install the newest VenomRom for my HTC M9. To do so I need the new firmware and tried to get it through OTA.
Previously I backed up the original system, so I restored it with TWRP. Everything was fine, until the first of two updates was downloaded and installed.
The installation aborted with the following error message and hints:

So what am I doing wrong??
As I may read, you try to update from the wrong base. The OTA look for 5.1 base, but your backup is 5.0.2.
---------- Post added at 06:14 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:05 PM ----------
If u are currently on 2.10.401.1 firmware and you can restore your last working rom(I think viperone 3.5.0) you should:
1. Download 2.10.401.180 OTA, extract firmware.zip and flash with fastboot flash zip in download mode
2. Download 3.35.401.12 OTA, extract firmware.zip and flash with fastboot flash zip in download mode
3. Flash the latest TWRP
4. Flash the ViperOne 4.2.1 doing dirty update from 3.5.0 or a clean install wiping all in aroma installer

I'm currently on 2.10.161.7. My backup is difinitly a 5.1.
I had to flash the stock recovery too, maybe I choose the wrong one? But I think I tried every Vodafone Stock Recovery.
It is strange. I read:
Package expects build fingerprint of htc/himauhl_vodafone_umauhl_vodafone_uk/htc_himauhl:5.1/LMY470/584440.180:user/release-keys: this device has htc/himauhl_vodafone_uk/htc_himahl:5.0.2/LRX22G
So it expects 5.1 and find 5.0.2.
The right stock recovery is inside firmware.zip inside OTA zip
I solved my problem! After getting a stock recovery from "Flippy498's Back-to-Stock Files"-Guide I still got problems with the OTA.
But the key to success was locking the bootloader again with fastboot oem lock and mounting system read only.
After that the OTA installed just fine =)
Thank you =)

Since you used my instructions/files I need to correct your statement a little bit. The key to success is not locking (S-OFF only) or relocking the bootloader. It's restoring an untouched system image and mounting the system partition as read-only.
But I could swear the key was relocking the boot loader. Without relocked bootloader, read only system partition and your untouched system it did not install the OTA ! But after I relocked the bootloader it did install the OTA, so in my case it was definitly the unlocked bootloader that made problems
OTAs don't check whether the bootloader is unlocked or not so I guess it's been a coincidence and that the reason for the failure lay elsewhere.
agree
yes i agree the ota do not care weather your bootloader is unlocked or not nor if it is s-on or s-off but i think the system partition has to be mounted as read only

Stuck at bootloop after update.

Hello, I tried to update my phone to android 6.0.1, but after the update my phone stuck at htc logo for about 1 hour, so I decided to restart my phone to see what happen and now my phone stuck at black screen after htc logo.
Before update my device have already rooted with twrp recovery, so I tried to flash stock recovery back into the device. (I get the stock recovery file "recovery.img" by extract file "download/OTA_EYE_TUHL_L50_SENSE60_MR_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.19.707.5-2.19.707.3_release_468771.zip/firmware.zip/recovery.img" that I've download into internal memory when update my phone) I don't sure is it the cause of the problem. Then I flash the recovery.img to my phone by using newest windroid toolkit and install the update. First the update run smoothly but end up stucking at htc logo as I've told you before.
I am very beginner and I really have no idea what happen and how to fix my phone, please help me. Thank you very much.

I'm facing the same problem as well. I followed the same exact steps OP used.
Right now, I'm trying to use an international stock ROM to restore to stock KitKat. Will update on how that's going once it's done downloading.

Can't apply updates, Status 7 error

Hi all!
I'm in a big trouble. Recently I bricked my M8s, and I had to get back to stock. Unfortunately, RUU for my phone didn't work (constant htc_fastboot crashes during the process), and trying to flash zip from bootloader ended in "Device halted due to Large Image update fail!" error, so I had to flash the raw system.img image to the /system partition in twrp. The OS eventually booted up but now I'm unable to apply any system upgrade! While installing downloaded update in recovery I get this error:
Code:
Verifying current system...
/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/system has been remounted R/W
reflash device to reenable OTA updates
E:Error in @/cache/recovery/block.map
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
The same thing happens when I try to apply update from OTA package provided by mr Lalleman.
I don't know anymore what to do, can someone help?
