Tab s 10.5 Horrible Battery Life All Of A Sudden - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings,
I've had my Tab S 10.5 for just over 10 months now. My battery life drops 20% on standby over the course of a few hours. I was watching a video on YouTube and it dropped by 25% over 15 minutes. So, I ordered a new battery and replaced it fine. However, the same type of things persist. Today I watched 15 minutes of YouTube and the battery dropped 27% (to 12%). When I powered it back on it was 55%. So, I cleared the cache via recovery mode as other users have suggested and I'm waiting for it to charge to see if that helped. However, it's only charged 3% in an hour. Obviously something is going on. I want to say my battery life took a dive with Lollipop, but I can't say conclusively. I did downgrade to KitKat and the problems still persisted so I upgraded again figuring it didn't make a difference. Then I replaced the battery yesterday. I'm not sure Samsung will take it back but I could replace the old battery (depends if they can tell I opened the case). Anyone have any advice? It seems like the battery % isn't being correctly read by the device so I was hoping wiping the cache would do it. Thanks for any help.

[Q] How many people have had battery problems with the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 T800?

I've spent the entire evening tonight trying to find out why I'm getting very erratic battery performance on my Tab S 10.5. I've seen the battery jump and drop 10-30% within a half hour, I've seen the battery percentage go UP from 55% to 67% after rebooting it while it wasn't plugged in, and all kinds of other battery level weirdness. I've even seen it lock itself at random and randomly reboot both when plugged in and when running on only battery.
Tonight, I had had enough and did a factory reset, and it got WORSE! After the reset, it went from 10% tom 17% when I unplugged it. Once I did, it rebooted itself and the battery dropped to 0% and shut itself off!
I've seen other people on here complaining about the same battery weirdness, but the threads seem to mix people talking about different Galaxy Tab S tablets. My question is if I return this to Amazon and get a new one, am I likely to have the same problem? Will it be better? Worse?

For me, the biggest drain is the screen and I have it at a very low level. I put it into ultra power saving mode last night before going to bed. The batter level this morning was fine, but GSam Battery Monitor said I had the screen on for 8 hours, whereas the built in batter app shows otherwise.

I haven't rooted my Tab. I'm running stock.
Here's another example of what I was seeing. Once it dropped down to 0% last night, I left it plugged in and left it alone. hen I looked at the battery meter, it didn't show a gradual increase in battery level, it showed a huge spike up in the middle of the night. So it charged very slowly, then at some point jumped around 50% or more and continued to charge until it showed 100%.
Today my T800 did something similar, it was full, then unplugged, started to use it and it went to 92% in just 15min so I was like WTF, plugged to the charger and then immediately jumped to 99%, I unplugged and did a reboot and it once it was back was at 99% again, so I charged again to full and I will see later how it's behaving.
I did notice that when this happened it was warmer than usual
Mine is not rooted.
My T800 doesn't behave like that. I'd definitely return it.

Mine is doing the exact same thing. Also loses all wifi connections and I have to put in the passkey every time it reboots. It started about a week or so ago. I think I'll just return it.
Guys, see this thread. Tab S 8.4 T705. I had issue with battery too and i managed to settle it by this way.

Do you even know what rooting is? If you did, you'd know that rooting on its own does nothing to the battery, not only that but it CAN'T do anything to the battery
my battery problems solve (maybe)
Finally after reading dozens of post and trying all kinds of apps to solve the draining and rebooting of mt Tab 5 10.5 t800 I decided to replace the battery so I watched a video on you tube about how to replace the battery and took the back cover off.it was easy I used one of my guitar pics and before I took the battery out I remembered seeing a post here on xda about the battery plastic connector not making good contact so before I took the battery out i disconnected the white plastic connector it just pulls up and off and used a q-tip with some electrical cleaner on it and cleaned the contact and plugged it back in, I charged it to 100% witch I could not do before because it would stop at 98% and put the unit through the paces playing games and videos and doing every thing i could to drain the battery and the first thing I noticed was the battery life was about 5 times greater and it did not drop or reboot yet after 7 hours im at 54 percent battery life .. the screen is more responsive and the unit is running smooth as butter. I am REALLY excited and hope this is the answer to my problems because I really dont want to buy a new battery and find out it does the same thing.

T705 Battery only lasting 2hrs 30 minutes (ish)

Hi,
I've recently got a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 T705 and it is an amazing bit of kit, but I am having an issue with battery life. I am only getting about 2:30hrs screen on time, even with the screen brightness on pretty much the lowest setting. I am currently only using it for emails (Gmail) and light Web browsing, so nothing taxing. It is not rooted and running the latest UK released updates. I have debloated the tab using the debloater v3 available on XDA. I've also switched off mobile data, WiFi scanning etc and I am solely usi get home WiFi at the moment. Just typing this post has used 4% of the battery charge
I've noticed a lot of people managing between 7-9hrs,so I was wondering if there is something I have missed or I am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Ross
Can you fully charge your battery play/loop a youtube video for 10 minutes and tell me how much has droped? And can you show us your battery stats/graph
I have a T700, only had it for a couple days, but battery life seems pretty poor. I mostly use it for email, browsing and Twitter.
I don't have a lot of apps, widgets or accounts refreshing. Disabled any apps I don't use as well.

Thanks for the reply. I will charge the tablet and then report back.
I just rebooted the tablet as I inserted my sim card and it went from 55% battery to 45% after the reboot.
@cjw_101 it's quite shocking isn't it. I like you have no widgets. Hoping it is just something I am doing wrong or an easy fix.
Bit of an update. I intended on running the battery out fully before recharging it and noticed some strange behaviour:
I restarted the device and it went from 55% before the restart to 45% after the restart. It then discharged over an hours use of general Internet use and switched off at 1%. I pressed the power button again and it turned back on with apparently 14% battery. It then ran down to 1% again over 10 minutes and it switched off. I turned it back on again and it showed at 1% and switched off again. I plugged in my charger while the tablet was off and it showed on the screen that the battery was 12% full.
Now just recharging it.

I heard from the same stuff as you are describing here. Maybe it would be the best when you bring back your tablet, that they can repair it/or replace the battery... because this is just not normal!
If you are rooted, I would try a custom rom from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development
Choose one of your choice and try it again with this new rom!
Thanks for your help.
I've emailed Samsung to see if they can arrange to fix it. Hopefully it won't take too long.
can you kindly provide a link the debloater v3?

I had similar problems and eratic reporting for the battery level.
tried all soft solutions (fully charge / discharge, reset battery stats, custom kernels, etc.) with no durable effect.
at last resort I opened it, unplugged and replugged the battery, and it has been functionning perfectly since, with something like 7 hours screen on time.
did that because sending it back was a bit complicated (import), but you may not be in the same situation.
hope it helps.
Thanks for the reply.
I've just had a phone call from Samsung and they've agreed there is an issue, so they will be sending out packaging for me to send it back for repair.
Thank you everyone for all your help and advice, it's very much appreciated
I sent my tablet off on Monday and received it back today, so I cannot fault Samsungs service. I'm not sure what they have done to the tablet, as they haven't advised me of the fault. They have supplied me with a new USB cable and adapter, which I assume is normal with battery related issues. I will report back once the tablet has charged and I have been able to test it more.
So I've been testing the tab since Friday and I am on target for at least 8hrs screen on time That's with the tablet being on for over 2 days straight as well. It looks like the issue is now resolved
Thank you everyone for all your help
I had the same problem with you. If I fully charged it and turned it off, the battery will be around 4% after 2 days. If I used the tablet, the battery drained a lot.
I sent it to Samsung Service Centre here. They wrote 'replaced Power IC' in the repair bill. Now the battery is fantastic. I can watch movies in MX Player Pro for 2 hours and the battery drains around 15%-ish only. You definitely need to send it in. It's hardware problem, not software.
Hope this helps.

The Battery Drastically Drained in seconds!

Hi guys. Im new here. I just wanna share about my Z1 compact latest battery problem kinda frustrated me lately.
I bought the phone 2-3 months ago, already with Android Lollipop 5.0.2. Since the purchase, I didnt really face a problem with the battery life as it lasted about 12 hours per charge due to my heavy usage of the phone.
But a few days lately, my phone being worrying me as the battery doesnt being as normal as always. For example, it can drain the battery drastically from 88% to 67% in a few seconds when the screen is off (in standby mode). Sometimes, in the middle of the usagefrom 39%, the phone suddenly shows the battery low warning with a 1% battery remaining, and without having enough time to reach the charger, it shuts down by itself.
In rare cases, I caught my phone drained the battery drastically when the screen is still on from 15% to 1% less in a minute.
The phone wasnt rooted and I didnt anything else besides my daily normal usage. The latest apps I downloaded before the problem occurred is Waze.
I tried everything to save the battery like using the Stamina Mode, force stops some apps, slides away all of the running apps in the background but failed. I even factory reset my phone and installed all the apps the way it used to be but still didnt solved the problem.
I still have about 8 monts of Sony warranty but I need you guys help first because I need to use my phone for work right now. Please help and reply.
Thank you. *Sorry if my English isnt that good*
When the battery jumps from 39% to 1%... Does it stay a long time at 39%? Or from 39 to 1 in few minutes?
Just curious...
Sounds like a warranty issue to me. You could try to find out what is causing heavy drain like with BetterBatteryStats. But no app ever should cause such drains.
Sound more like your battery is not okay.

The exactly same problem with me .I have 100% battery and indicator stays 100% for a half hour than drastically drains to 1% and shuts down.
Change your battery! I had the same Problem. I changed my battery with anotherone original from Sony, but a few weeks later the same Problem: quickly battery drain.
So I ordered me a battery from e-bay but NOT one from Sony! Now a few weeks later still NO Problems. Everything runs Ok now. NO battery drain at all.

Battery issue

Hello, a couple of months ago my battery started dying on me so I went to Samsung to get a replacement (my tablet is still within warranty). Despite the fact that my Knox counter is triggered they've changed my battery as well as my tablet's motherboard (don't know why). In the first few weeks I would get quite good battery 7-8 hours of Screen on Time, so far so good.
In the last month or so -though- I'm starting getting quite worse results. The battery leak while sleeping is 2% every 8 hours, so I'm great there too (amplify + greenify work miracles), so the only thing that I can think is that the battery has started dying again (already?). I've let my tablet reach 0% and shut down on its own. Then I booted into recovery and let my tablet on with full brightness for another hour until it was finally off. That's *one hour on* with full brightness!
It seems obvious to me that that's a calibration issue. I deep cycled my battery (twice!), but the results persist (battery is 0% after 5.30 hours of SoT, an additional hour of full brightness is needed until my battery is really depleted). I've made the calculations and found out that if I could actually use that extra hour of full brightness, I would still get 7-8 hours of SoT.
What happened? Why is my battery suddenly got itself "decalibrated" and why does deep cycling (or deleting the battery starts) never works? I think that I should get my tablet back to Samsung again (it's still within warranty), but I would prefer not to as it'll take another 2-3 weeks (again!) to fix it and I'd much prefer to have my tablet in the meantime. So do you have any quick and dirty method to get my 2 hours back?
BTW I know that 2 hours less of screen time , sounds little. But it's exactly the amount of time that deems whether I should charge my battery twice or once every day (yeah I use my tablet *that* much, as it also doubles as my laptop on the go)

Poor battery since 6.0.1?

So I updated my phone tonight and after it used 30% in an hour or so. All I was doing was using FB on it. Prior I played PAD for 15 minutes and it hardly used 5%. I've wiped cache, cleared app cache, and now I'm working on a full discharge from 100%. The battery is brand new and it was getting better life prior to the upgrade. So much for 3x better battery I guess?
After clearing caches I left it idle ofer night. It used 13% for 20 minutes of screen time. and then it used 3% idle over the 5 hours I slept. Still seems a bit high on usage for screen time but idle is great.
So I discharged it completely and now its losing power fast again. The battery was 100% unplugged it and turned it on and its 97%. So I turned it back off and checked it and its also showing 97%. Charge it back to 100%, turn it on, its on 100% but loses 1% in a second. Plugged it in while onand it took like 3 minutes to charge that last 1%/ No idea why. The battery is brand new and got 2 or 3 days on idle before, now it reports 20 hours. what happened to that 3x better battery? What else can I do to sync the battery properly? I also noticed 100% is not 100% until the phone tells me battery is charged.
Again this battery is brand new and my life with 5.1.1 was pretty good.
I've been having poor battery calibrations in EPH7, though my battery is still what came with the phone.
There are days I can get to about 5? left before the phone dies, and there are days it dies at 15?..
Already tried charging all the way till full while the phone was off, still the same. It's random, but I just generally expect the phone to turn off as I come close to 15?.

That sounds like a bad battery. I can get my phone to drain down to 0% before it dies, but the battery usage can be erratic.
After some testingm the first 5% (95-100%) does down fast but after that it can go a pretty good while. Not sure why. I left the screen on with max brightness, turned on NFC/wifi/bluetooth and just left tons of apps running and it took 4-5 hours to get the battery down to 20%. the life is in fact great just not properly synced. No root makes it more of a pain to calibrate.
So I charged the battery offline and it got to 100%. I switched it on and it shows 97%. What the hell has marshmallow done to my note?
last post. If I charge the phone formt he OS it reaches 100% seemingly properly and doesn't discharge quickly. Not sure what marshmallow screwed up.
I had the same issue with my battery draining quickly after the upgrade. I backed up all of my data and then performed a master rest of the phone and then went into recovery and cleared cache as well. Once it booted back up I reloaded all of my apps and reconfigured all my accounts and my battery acts normal once again. It was a pain in the ass to do all of that but it did work for me so hopefully it works for you too.
