Hi,
Years ago I rooted my HTC Desire A8181 and flashed it with a custom LeeDrOiD V2.x ROM.
It worked flawlessly.
I stopped use that phone after I bought a Samsung.
Recently I found my old HTC Desire in a closet and wanted to see if it works.
I enabled the Desire and it shows white background with HTC word in the middle of the screen. Then it shows black background with ANDROID word in the middle of the screen and that screen stays forever. Right now there are no SIM and Memory cards in the phone.
I suppose, without memory card the phone will not boot, correct?
Please advice, what should I do to bring my HTC Desire back to life.
Thanks
Evgeny

I see!
I have to find a new card to do that.
Please remind me
1. Can I format SD Card with FAT32 & an EXT3 partitions in the phone?
2. Do I need to copy a Zipped file (Recovery ZIP ?) to the card and where can I find it?
Is there a ROM for this old phone, which not requires an external SD memory card?
Thanks again.

You can create partitions in SD using TWRP or CWM recovery.
You insert "ROM.ZIP" on FAT32 partition. In recovery you choose this place.
All firmware RUU do not include service sd-ext.
Thanks,
I got it!

Hi Mates,
I have searched and just cant seem to find the answer to what seems like a fairly simple task. i want to change my 2GB card to a 16GB version. i have read the thread over at Revoked but it implies it is for a ext2/3 partioned SD Card and not a stock one. anyway I do not have the same options on my Recovery menu to follow it.
I have HTC Desire (WWE 2.29.405.5) with ROOT and I used Unrevoked 3.2.2 which gives me a recover screen of ClockWorkMod if i hold -VOL & POWER on the phone. I tried to formate the 16GB card in the phone but it is not recognised by either the Android system or ClockWorkMod formatting menu options.
Could someone please help me out with instructions to follow to acheive this? I have only just joined the Android gang and I'm a little lost.
Thanx for your assistance.
First format it in a pc in fat32. Then put in phone ,boot in recovery and partition. If does not recognizes it then you should change your recovery to amonra's one. I have heard that people have probs with cwm recovery.

If Windows doesnt allow you to format it as FAT32, you can alternatively use the following:
It involves running Gparted, a partition manager from a LiveCD, it's the best option, with a lot of easy customizations.
Just download the latest Gparted, burn it to CD/USB, then reboot.
Insert the Gparted CD, reboot with SDcard inserted.
Thanx I eventually got there. I first did android backup from the recovery menu, then formatted the 16 GB card on my pc (i used a puppy install on usb) to boot my PC into Lynix. Then copied all my old MC data to the new card. Finally I inserted new card and went to recovery then restore using CWR Which allowed all my SD card apps to still work. Phew.......and I missed out all the in-between bits that I had !

I just copied the files from my existing SD card to the new one and changed cards. Worked just fine.
Hi,
I have been using HTC Desire A8183 for a while and have just swapped to A8181 for Optus network. I have taken out my 32Gb Card from the A8183 and placed it in the new A8181 after I have rooted and flash AmonRA V2.0 recovery. Except I cannot get into recovery from Vol - plus Power button unless I wait a long time for it to look for PD99DIAG.ZIP image which it does not find. If I put a smaller 2Gb sd card in it is fine and goes through to recovery quickly.
Can someone please help and steer me in the right direction, is it a problem with the SD card, am I missing something?
And yes its the new Desire PVT4 (40000) if this makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.
Have a look on your 32GB card for the PD99 file. I guess it is sorting through it if there is one. If it's bothering you that much, backup your SD card, then just format it and see if that works. But please backup.
Thanks I had a look and could not see the File, should it be in the root of the sdcard?

Only if your looking to update something.

the PB files are stock images and unless you have one on the SD card it shouldn't find one. The only time you'd use a PB99IMG.zip is when flashing it after extracting it from an RUU as you can't get an RUU to run
You also can't change from from A8181 to A8183
Thanks For your input and understand what you are saying I just don't know why my phones spend 10 minutes scanning for this image before loading the recovery. It should see there is no file and go straight to the recovery. Funny thing is I put a 2gb micro SD in with nothing in it and no problems straight into recovery, put my 16gb or 32gb micro SD in and I have to wait for this process of searching for this pb99diag image and nhh file etc. I don't understand is it the large size micro SD causing this?

I am also having this problem, but it started only after I partitioned my SD card with GPart into EXT, Swap and FAT32 partitions and then installed the MIUI FROYO ROM

Sorry to comment on my own post but I resolved the above problem by doing a Clockworkmod backup, Wiping User data & Dalvik cache and then flashing xavierjohn22's "MIUI XJ A2SD/A2SD+ 1.3.25 - 2.3 x1"
This was a PIA as I had to re install Titanium Backup, but then, at least I was able to use it to recover most of my data and apps from the TB backup made before my Superuser became corrupt.
The upside is that I now have the Excellent Gingerbread version of MIUI.
I got HTC Wildfire and i just installed RemPuzzle 2.83(which is great btw but that's not the point here)
and my CWM recovery is v2 or i don't remember.
i had v5 in my sd card.
i booted on my recovery(old version) and then i selected to install v5.
from v5 i selected to partition the sd card(options 4GB memory and swap 0) :silly:
it completed the task and after that the sd card is uselless.
the phone can't read the sd and my computer(windows) suggests to format the sd card but it cannot complete the task.
my question is
can i get the sd card working again or it's going to the trash can?
i don't care about the data inside, before anything was done i ha backup done to my pc.

Use clockworkmod v 5 to format the SD card or just re-partition again with a swap size
my phone can't recognise the sd card.not even in recovery.when i selected wipe sd card it says "skipped sd card - complete"
as an effect i also can't partition again the sd card from my mobile.
Try to format your sd card via cmd (windows).
Just a thought.

Using an sdcard reader use the windows program called easeus partition master. If that doesn't work your only hope may be a Linux terminal. But make sure you use a different card reader as to rule out the phone as an issue.
Hiya mate, have a try with Heavy_Metal_Man suggestion with a partition manager, a good one I use is Mini Partition Manager, it has detected the 3 cards I have broke before :silly:
mount it to pc,
completely remove all partitions
and create 1 new partition across entire card,
reboot in to recovery when it tells you its created the partition.
and try it again
Hope this helps, if it did click " Thanks " on the posts you think helped!
ok guys.
thank you for your help.
i solved it...
i used MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition (with card reader) and saw the sd card and recreated all the needing staff so the sd card could be usable again.
what i did with CWM recovery is that i didn't replace totally the stock CWM,i just run the v5 something like virtually.and that created the problem.
thank you guys for your response!
cheers.
Hi Guys,
Apologies in advance. This is my first post here. I've tried to find threads with similar problems to mine but so far I am stuck on how to resolve it.
I inherited a HTC Desire a while ago which came with customised rom (I think it was "insert coin").
However last week I upgraded to a SG3 with the intention of giving the Desire to my sister and it has been all downhill from there.
Ever since I ported my service over to the SG3 and took out the HTC Desire's SD card and old sim, the HTC hasn't been able to start-up.
It turns on, but freezes on the start up home screen (see attachment). No icons are displayed and you can't do anything - not even turn the phone off. You have to pull the battery out to turn it off.
It does this even with another functional sim.
I can still go into HBOOT.
I did a factory reset from here thinking it would go back to stock standard rom. But i'm getting the same thing - freezing on the home screen.
I read about flashing the phone with a recovery image with android flasher. However when I do this, android flasher can't complete the task because it cannot detect my phone via the USB cable (I think the phone is automatically going on "charge only" - and since the screen is frozen, there is a no way of changing this)
I don't know what has gone wrong here so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Firstly, your phone is very easy to fix. Don't panic.
On the hboot screen, you have a "recovery" option. Select it, and post another picture.
Looks like its more of an SD card issue. Put back your earlier SD card or copy its contents to a new one.
Put the SD card back into phone and reboot.

Insert-coin requires a sd-ext partition.
Do you have an ext partition on your sd-card? Is the storage smaller that it should be?
If you put the sd-card back, does it boot normally?
All of the apps were stored on the "old SIM" either put it back (o hope you've not formatted it), or change the Rom

Yes, I thought this too as it was the only thing I could think of that I changed.
I copied the contents of the SD card onto my desktop before I reformatted it (oops!!!) for the SG3.
But when I realised the Desire didn't work, I copied the contents back onto another SD card, put it back in, rebooted, but it didn't work
I can't be 100% certain though that everything was copied back, I could very well have deleted something important. What sort of files would be important for the start up?
The card will have had an ext3 or ext4 partition that you'll have removed. Get a new card (or start again with the one you have) and flash a new Rom, I'd suggest flashing 4ext recovery, creating a 1.5 gb ext4 partition and then the mild wild cm7, you should be up and running within an hour with a stable Rom.

Well... first flash mildwild cm7, to get your phone up and running, and you calm down, then do what frosty said.

Just wondering whether I need/should partition the SD card, and whether this is still OK to do after flashing a new rom.

You got to partition first before flashing. 1-1.5gb ext4 partition and rest fat32.
You can partition now, wipe everything except for sd card and reflash the ROM again.

So here's the deal. Yesterday I installed Cyanogenmod 11 with Jelly Bean on my HTC Desire. The low internal memory problem bothered me very much. I heard there is a program/script that fools the phone into thinking your SD card is part of your internal memory so you can practically expand your internal storage. It is named something like this: INT2EXTV2+ something like that, I don't remember correctly. I partitioned my SD card with 999 MB ext4, 0 MB swap and the rest with FAT 32(all together 2GB). I rebooted into Clockwork Mod Recovery and chose install zip from sd card and installed this INT2EXTV2+, after it finished, i rebooted again and noticed my phone won't boot at all with sd card inserted(stuck at cyanogen mod logo animation). However, if I remove sd card, it boots without a problem. Is my SD card destroyed or what? How to boot the phone with sd card? I am a total noob regarding this so no hate please.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

So did u partition using clockwork mod? U shouldnt have done that because it isn't that reliable u should partition with 4ext recovery 1gb ext4 and the custom Rom you downloaded it should tell you how to activate the partition. What Rom are u using?

Cyanogenmod 11 with Android Jelly Bean. I tried to parition using AParted, but sometimes it would give me an error and a popup would come saying the SD is damaged. However, sometimes if I force the SD into the phone while it booted without it, it recognizes the SD. Ok I'll try using that.
