Hey guys, I have few questions about my phone.
The phone is fairly new and still has factory warranty. I wanted to root it but im afraid it will void the warranty. Is there a tutorial on how to 'unroot' the device so they wont find out about the root? Is it worth rooting the phone? I dont want custom ROM, just the root with official system (Lollipop 5.0.2 iirc)
I wanted to record my gameplay, there are many apps that record without root but they cant capture sound. They use microphone instead of the sounds 'in-game' making the sound quality very bad. Anyone know of an app that will record the sound without using microphone?
Also, if i have root can the apps that use GPS enable and disable it on the go? I know that this function was disabled in 4.3 but is there any way to get it working again?

Don't root your S6 Edge, on rooting process, a chip burns on S6 and disable Knox and Samsung Pay for ever, without a way to recover it

I dont use samsung pay anyway but the question is, will i be able to get my warranty back after i root the phone? On S3 I just had to flash back the official firmware (didnt reset flash counter and they still accepted it for repairs). Would disabling knox void the warranty?

Yes, you lost warranty
Before repairing, they check the chip which burns on rooting process, when it is burned, they will not repair your phone without pay money

Pretty sure any sort of rooting technically voids the warranty. That's what an ODIN reflash is for.

Not in Europe (EU).
Don't feel bad read what is coming from Google .....http://m.gsmarena.com/google_announces_andriod_l_developer_preview-news-8864.php
Any device with ics or better can run Knox software and Samsung pushed it back to Google who will put it in Android L
Don't feel like having a device with Knox well the new iPhone may not have Knox

so the lg G3 has any sort of tamper flag implemented?
Well, I used towelroot to root the G3. It's pretty non-intrusive and very simple to use. No reboots required. Just install the APK and click a button.
Your bootloader stays intact and so does the stock recovery. If a simple root is all you want, try towelroot. You just need a factory reset to remove root.
And yes.. the S5 users are using it to root their devices without tampering the Knox bit. Based on this info, I would say it's pretty safe
No way to unroot towelrooted device without hard reset?

Is the factory reset enough to make the phone accept OTA's? I can't see why it wouldn't be (unless there is a tampered flag) however some people on here have said refreshing stock rom is the only way to do it.

Does it work with a carrier branded G3 in same way?

Can we have some more information guys? Seems like a simple .apk can root the device and in the EU the warranty isn't void?

I used towel root on my LG G Pro 2 to change my build prop so that I could install and run skygo. I performed a full unroot with supersSU Pro and surprisingly found that this did not satisfy skygo and it still flagged up as rooted (superSU Pro has always worked for me previously with other root processes).
I repeated the root process and I found some additional towel root files in system xbin which I removed then ran unroot with supersSU Pro and was then able to run skygo successfully.
I hope this is relevant to the g3 as I intend to buy a 32gb version but would like to have skygo on this. For the first time in my life, I am not charging in head first. I am holding back on my purchase and reading everything about it first.
Not sure I can keep this up for much longer though.
Good to know where to look.
Thanks for the info:good:

I want to root the tablet, but I was told Knox would be tripped if I do. How would having knox tripped affect me with Roms and my general use with the tablet? is there a way to root without tripping knox?

Yes it's worth it. You will find it useful as you use your tablet after rooting. Tripping knox will not affect the software and general use. Unfortunately, there's no way that you can root without tripping knox for now. In some countries, a tripped knox bootloader can void warranty. So be sure to contact your local Samsung customer service for enquiries.

I have not found rooting worth it since before JB.
If you like messing around with alternative OSs it would be. Otherwise I can't find anything I want to do bad enough to potentially void the warranty on a 400 dollar or more device.
For me it's worth it. Gives you the possibility to debloat the standard rom and make the use of Titanium backup possible.
Yes so you can delete/freeze all the crap that Samsung put on their products.
i was really hoping that a simply tool root method would come but who knows now. with the T800 if you root can you still get OTA updates. i undrestand the freezing etc.. problem but what i mean is can you either unfreeze everything or do an ODIN with recovery files or whatever and still get OTA to work?
i ask becuase we have very low dev support (not dissing current peeps because much appreciated) but i would like to not have to wait for devs to get OTA updates. i just want to freeze a few things and install Xposed.

It's totally worth it, even if you trip Knox in the process. I don't think I could enjoy my tablet anymore if I had to unroot it for some reason. Greenify is a godsend since the S can be somewhat lacking in battery life, and foldermount let's you actually have games on it without decimating your 11gb of storage space by allowing you to transfer them over to an external micro SD card. Those are just the tip of the iceberg too. Wanam Xposed is also a must have. Tl;dr it's totally worth it. Not just worth it, imperative.
I did Root and tripped konx'a. Guarantee "went to love ', but I hope that the tablet will not break down.
It's definitely worth it. I have adjusted the Max volume of my device to my liking. You cant do that unrooted. Getting rid of bloatwares and using Xposed tweaks are the other things you can do when you are rooted. Plus, i've enable the softkeys and disabled the capacitative keys to be able to hold the tab better in landscape without accidentally hitting the back button. This is very useful when watching a movie. So, it is DEFINITELY worth it.
Warranty only covers factory defect. I havent experienced any of my past samsung devices.
I am using GMD gesture control (instead of the buttons), that alone is worth rooting, imho.
Some people are reporting problems with casing (getting creaks or wobbles). That should still be warranted even with knox tripped. Isn't it?
Main drawback I see, is that OTA updates are not working with knox bit tripped.
But usually we'll move on some custom ROM anyway.
My understanding is that the retail verizon wireless edition (non-DE) of this phone can still be rooted. But you will trip knox, thus voiding warranty. I also understand you don't have an unlocked bootloader either.
I don't care about warranty, but I do want root. My question then becomes about future updates. If knox is tripped, can I still get to lollipop when it is released. I know I would probably loose root again at that point, but I live in the hope that eventually that too will get rooted (I know it may be vain hope, but still).
If my phone is rooted, will it block me from ever getting lollipop? Because without a bootloader, I can't put lollipop on through a custom rom either.
So, for someone who absolutely doesn't care about warranty issues, is root still a bad idea?
Thanks

Interesting, I read somewhere you can root it still, but it will just trip knox. Maybe they were wrong.
I'm seriously struggling pulling the trigger on buying this without root. But I don't care about warranty.

Nothing yet. It's a nice phone but if you need root go for the DE edition. I can live without root, it would be nice but it's not a big deal to me. I have other rooted phones I can mess with if I want.

This phone is great as is. I personally would not let no root stop me from getting this phone. But its up to you.

Can I set it back to unrooted official state? I was avoiding rooting till at least a month but being unable to turb the shutter sound is too much.
Thanks
I could get silent pictures with a third party app.. but nothing works with the lg camera app
Even I need the same info.anyone there to help please?
Rooting does not trip knox on the S6, it's the modified bootloader/recovery that trips knox. Rooting itself is okay. The same goes for the G4, rooting can be reverted, unlocking the bootloader (if possible) will leave a mark, but everything will work (not like on the Samsungs)

Just install TWRP and flash SuperSU.
So there is noway to do this without tripping knox?
bump!
No.
Let me add on a bit to my initial response. Rooting the phone will trip Knox. Has been this way for quite some time. Discussed across many thread here and elsewhere.
Now the question comes up as to what do you lose by tripping Knox? Samsung Pay will never work for you. Android Pay may or may not work. Many people have been able to get it working at least in part, but disable Root (via SuperSu) when using Android Pay. I don't use either of those, so I don't care.
Then the question comes up if this voids warranty. The answer is only if you say "Hey, I rooted my phone and then broke something!" If you need warranty for a physical defect, go back to stock via Odin and you shouldn't have a problem. If you root your phone and then install a ROM not meant for your phone or local (like a Note ROM or an international ROM) you are probably going to mess something up that will be immediately obvious. The solution is not to do that.
Realistically, there aren't a ton of great ROMs available for this phone and most are based on stock anyway. No CM13 as yet. If you can live with your phone un-Rooted, that might be the wisest choice.
That said, I rooted my phone as soon as I got it. I went the full route, didn't care about tripping Knox and still don't. I have run both Renegade and TeamSPR ROMs and have been happy with them.
Now you can decide what to do.
Or u could root ur phone n install xposed on it ... Rooted S6 stock rom is now compatible with xposed its better than any custom roms out there

In my case, I only need temporary root. After that it maybe removed. So it would be nice to be able keep knox from being tripped if possible. Installing twrp is an additional step too that I would like to avoid again because it would serve no purpose since root would only be temporary. I also wanted to be sure that build G920PVPU3CPD3 could be rooted. Thanks for your input guys.
