McAfee - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How in the hell do i get rid of McAfee on my LG G3 without root. I got my G3 today and i didnt know anything about this stupid McAfee app.
Its sucking my battery dry! I want rid of it guys.

Uhm, your phone came with McAfee? Without root, I don't think it's possible if it's bloatware. If you installed it yourself, then you would go to the app drawer, then drag it to the top of the screen, where an uninstall box would pop up.

Apparently it came with McAfee to stop unauthorised factory resets or something. But its sucking up my battery and i just want shot of it mate

Well that's really stupid, it needs to be up to the user to factory reset or not. Well I did some Googling, see if you can go to Settings>Apps>All Apps (You'll probably need to swipe right to get there), select McAfee and click Disable. I'm not on the stock rom anymore so I don't know if that's there, since some companies remove that option, but it's the same thing as Freezing an app.

Yeah McAfee is really annoying but i rooted and debloated it myself .

All sorted now fellas : flashed stock rom (which was a pain in the arse by the way!) lol soft bricked my phone once or twice until I figured out that the LG flash tool DOES NOT like USB 3.0! So I flashed stock, rooted using some devs script (thanks btw) installed twrp using flashify, installed root explorer and got rid of that rubbish McAfee lol

Good to hear it got sorted out
If you want an even more fluid experience, I'd recommend checking out some of the custom stock-based ROMs like CloudyG3 and ChupaChups ROM for an even better experience!

Thanks my friend! I have to admit, ive only got the 16gb (2gb) model. Stock rom is getting laggy etc. The only problem with 5.0 is (stupid I know) but I have my phone on silent 99.9999999999999999% of the time because I hate announcing to the world that someone's calling or texting me (defeats the object of a loudspeaker, I know, ive been grilled for this over on the Note 3 forums lol) but when I set my alarm to go off for work in the morning, I have to have my phone on loud otherwise my phone alarm won't go off, then I'll be late, then the boss will grill me etc. Its easier to stick with 4.4.2 because my alarm sounds whether my phone is on silent or not lol

How does AOSP look on a qHD display? Is their any 4.4/4.4.2 AOSP roms?

Why not go for the 5.1 roms? They are the smoothest ever

[HOW-TO] Delete and Change Stock Ringtone/Notification/Alarm/UI

For those who want to delete annoying ringtone or alarm sounds from stock one, here is a simple solution to change it
You need : Root Explorer / Root Browser
1. Go to root.
2. Open system/media/audio
3. (See, there are 4 folders : alarm, notification, ringtone, and ui) Choose folder that you want.
4. If you don't like the sound from that folder, just delete it. If you want to give your own sound, just copy it to the folder that you chose. But i recommend your sound file type is ogg vorbis. You can download Audacity from (http://audacity.sourceforge.net) to helps you convert the sound file
5. (Important) If you choose ui folder and want to change the system sound, don't forget to change your new sound's name like the old one!
5. Done!
After that, if you have problem about ringtone loop, see my thread below

Can it be done without root?
I have a new GT i9100G which is not rooted and as of this time I do not wish to void the warranty. So, my question is, can this be done without rooting my device? If not, will using Odin to root the device (flashing a kernel) set the counter to 1, and if so, how do I reset it without a jig?
PS. I hope I am not posting this in the wrong place and apologize if I am.
wow thanks for this simple guide, been lookin for this

Still visible in the menu...
Thanks a lot for the guide bro!
I got another question. I removed all those annoying sounds I never used and never will, the way you showed, but when I open the alarm menu or ringtone menu, they are still visible.
How do I remove them from there too? I wiped cache and Dalvik cache, but they are still there although there are only 3 alarm sounds left, the list of sounds in the alarm menu is still the same...
A really simple thing to do.
I wonder why people fail at times..
Anyways, Good Guide. Will help lots of people.
thankx for it was got bore with that old sound

Never mind... Problem solved... In the beginning, even after deleting the sounds I didn't want, they were still visible in the menus. If I selected them they would be mute of course... Today, somehow they disappeared from the menus as welI don't know if out was due to my constant rom modding or what. It beats me...

Once you are done with removing/adding the ring tone, restart your phone. It will update the new list.

the way to update the ringtone list is just restart your phone, or you could edit the ROM zip file first, before you flash it in your phone.

Thanks for answering my post. Using SU-BB installer, I was able to get root without changing the counter (I hope) so now I can use your method to get rid of the sounds I never use and do not like.
I've added sounds to the notification folder earlier but the notification volume is much lower than what the original volume of those tones. Any way to fix it ?

Use Audacity: It's free, and open source!
If your GT-S5830 has only one speaker (mono), you can, if your audio is stereo, create a mono track which should help somewhat. Audacity>new>open your file> tracks> stereo to mono. You can also use audacity to boost the db of the of the audio signal (take care not to cause clipping). Audacity>effect>amplify.
Hope this helps.

persistent irritating original ringtone!
My friend, please help me out. I have a problem with my rooted Huawei mediapad s7-931u device. i dont know why whenever i use/ install hisuit driver, the ringtone of the device gets back to its original (irritating!) one. off course, the name of the ringtone in my device is the one I have chosen, but that does not ring and the original one is played. I have tried to not use hisuit but still when i install a new app or use Superuser app, the ringtone changes to its original one!!!
you know what's funny! i looked all four audio folders to find that ... sound but it wasnt in any of them to be DELETED or what.
Please help me out! it's really going on my nerves now!
by the way, i forgot to make a ROM back up! oops. actually i tried but i couldnt. please tell me what to do.
Thanks a million.

Losing my mind! Help please!

It started on my G2 on the stock rom. No alarms but the alarm icon is still in the notification bar. I rooted and installed Malodus and it came back. I installed carbon, there it was. No matter what rom. I can't find an app that causes it. If I open Clock app it goes away instantly but comes back again.
Now guess what. Bought a new G3 and there it is. What the heck?

Thanks Jay. I will try it if I decide to root. For now I'd like to stay stock.
Quick update. I logged on to Google and deleted all app data then factory reset my phone. So far so good on the icon.

[Q] If root today, then what?

If root came to your m9 today, what would be the first thing you would do?
Disable the 10 incorrect pattern wipe and enable a few other things. Or S-Off if you're not including that in the root process.

Remove tetherguard hooks and enable tethering for those still holding on to unlimited data. I find the SD permissions less of an issue with andorid 5. Apps can at least now ask for permissions.

Well, since I got root today - Java Card S-Off
TiBu - I can't live without importing Call Logs and Messages. It's a complete dealbreaker for me to not be able to import these.
Debloat - Slacker Radio and NFL Mobile can piss off.

Wait for the ROMs to start coming in.

I would disable the asinine 'connected to wifi' notification that comes back constantly and cant be disabled.

I haven't. My previous phone was an M7 running santod040's GPE. I'll bail on Sense on this phone as fast as I can, too. I assume HTC's app would need Sense to work, no?
Well I would hope I could eventually load a rom (once S-off is achieved) that has a good lock screen clock/weather widget other than the ones I am seeing even on themed versions that look like a 10 year drew it with a crayon LOL.
Load ViperOne and then download other ROMs that are ready and check them out
If root, unlocked and S-OFF, make a stock nandroid jic, ad away, edit the default xml to enable tethering.
I'd also be interested to find out if enabling continuous scroll through home screens and rotation of home screen is a simple default xml edit or involves something more intricate.
Also I feel the max volume of the M9 is significantly less than my m8 (I have the hardon Marlon mod). Sounds great...but through the front speakers it's nowhere near as loud...so I imagine I'd flash the H/K mod if available

Oh this is a good one. And the "Location Found" notification. Also superfluous. I have tasker set up to automatically dismiss both notifications as soon as they pop up so I don't see them but agree that they are dumb.
I would download Secure Settings so I could automate my phone further with Tasker. I hate having to go through the menu's to turn things on or off when I've had it automated for the longest time.

Hidden Menu benefits

Hello guys, has the title says, what benefits I can get from the hidden menu on the G4 H811?
I recently turned OFF Fast dormancy mode and I see tons of options like changing bands on LTE or even LTE aggregation.
Any options I can turn on OFF that give positive results?

Not really and sometimes launching those activities outside their intended original source can cause all kinds of crazy **** to happen.. now you can use the app quick shortcut maker and make a direct shortcut to all kinds of system settings and a bunch that you cannot even get to MV system settings menus which is really cool like a direct shortcut to the usage manager that shows your battery running apps and data usage in a single section altogether that's not in the regular settings and all kinds of other settings and some that have been disabled by the carrier… be careful and for god sakes do not touch the system shutdown monitor activity because I saw someone take weeks to figure out how to pool their phone back out from a solid brick where the power wouldn't even come on at all just by clicking launch on that activity lol
Through my ancient eyes comes the certainty of decay... LG G4 & L 70

I feel ya man better safe than sorry huh lol. But there is some cool stuff mainly making direct Shortcuts to specific system settings is what I do and settings and features the carrier disabled which most always disable something (verizon being the worst, control freaks). Like I can reenable stock launcher themes on my g4 verizon cut out, using the activities. The app QUICK SHORTCUT MAKER is a priceless tool and has practically no limits. Will even let you try the activity in the app just use comon sense and don't hesitate to ask and if you need any other help pm me and I'll take a swing at it. Good luck

Hahah thanks for the recommendation mate! It sure is a great app!

What are your settings / changes for stock 6.0

I just purchased the LG G4 H812 (in Canada) and I love it! I found that there was a few things that I changed right away and would love to hear what you have done to make this phone even better!
Here are a few things I have done so far;
Disabled a bunch of unneeded apps
Disabled Dual Window
Disabled QuickCircle case
Disabled sound on keypress
Turn Off Mobile Data (unless no wifi - while driving etc)
Installed Launcher <3
Turned off Smart Bulletin
Turned off NFC
Use Smart Unlock (Face and On-Body)
Increased vibration strength
Enabled Voice Clarity when not using voip
Installed V10 Camera Mod apk
Installed SystemUI Tuner (ADB permissions)
Disabled "ok Google" detection from any screen
I have been getting great battery life on this phone too! This is lots of web browsing, youtube, using the camera, small amount of gaming and lots of reading on the XDA app
Cheers!

And depending on model it's very risky to brick the device!
Added SystemUI Tuner to get immersive mode. Had to do some ADB commands to break my device's virginity. ?
Disabled the "ok Google" detection from any screen. I think this helped with scrolling jittery lagging in some apps.
Using the built in cleaning app has helped too. I run it about once a week or after installing/removing a bunch of apps.
Now I don't swipe away my frequently used apps from the recent apps button/screen and that really speeds up launching the apps I use often.
